    Hi,

Just popping in-- yes, I'm the Julie B (juliechicago), the "CMFer!'  Which is DONE, thank goodness. 2 weeks out from the last one and still shedding. Will be glad when that's done. Wonder though if when the lost hair starts growing back if it's going to look like a Chia pet is trying to escape underneath......

Laura-- had to laugh about your husband's BOO BOO. My dh has been sick all weekend. Legit-- it looks like it's a UTI (maybe from E coli...) and he's been battling an on and off fever and feeling like poop.  But my goodness- he's been muttering, moaning. shuffling around like an 80 year old man in his ratty bathrobe, angry and despondent!  As if he had aged 40 years in a night.  I'm trying to be very patient as he will be managing everything for a bit post my surgery on the 19th, but wow, it was a tough weekend.  (Try chemo every 3 weeks!!)  I tried to keep the kids out of the house all weekend and attend to his needs too.  Feel like I came back to work to relax!  Got nothing done- re getting ready for my big event- and am feeling pretty anxious.  DH is on antibiotics now and I hope they work...otherwise this promises to be a long week. 2 weeks until surgery.

Question- bloodwork back from my pre-op visit and as expected, all my levels are still low-per last chemo only two weeks ago. But there was a note I had never seen before. In regards to platelets. "NOTE- large platelets visible. Large?   What's the implication there and why was that note made. Anyone know if that's something, pre-surgery- to be concerned about?

-JulieR-- any cake left?  My appetite is back with a vengeance and I now want to eat everything in sight. My daughter made the mistake of leaving her m&ms in my purse. Um, hope she doesn't remember them....they are sort of gone.

Susan- I work in Downer's Grove and my office grounds (Sara Lee) back up right against the Morton Arboretum. It is lovely. They have a wonderful children's area too and my kids have loved it. Especially the real maze!  Tim went through a maze book phase and just found it amazing to be in a real one!

Finally- just some lighter stuff-- I finally got our act together and we joined a new church in the area-Episcopal. Everyone was very welcoming and my kids started Sunday school.  The teachers bring the children in the larger church just before communion and while waiting to go to the alter, my son, 6, asks in a not-so-quiet voice. "MOM!  Is it inappropriate (his new word!)  to fart in church?"  The gentleman behind us started chortling so hard, his wife had to thump him on the back. After services, he told me that was the best laugh he had had in weeks.  Beth, 4, then told me she learned in class that the church is God's house. But was confused-- which room was His?

Hope everyone has a good week....

    Hi girls!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.  What a yucky day yesterday.

Thanks for all the info on the walk.  I think I will be signing up with my daughter.  What a great suggestion to make it a day downtown.

Julie - loved the fart story.  We had a similar situation a few months ago.  We were at an awards dinner where my DH and one of his good friends were getting a scouting award. During the opening flag ceremony when all was quiet, our friend's 12 yo son farted.  That was funny enough, but then he goes and points at his dad as in "he did it."  Our whole table was cracking up!

Sorry about your foot Laura.  That stinks!  And I hope your back feels better, Blackjack!

    Kater - how's the rash?

Hope everyone else is doing well!

blackjack - Hope your back/butt bone is better today.

JulieB - I read that platelets can become enlarged from chemo...if it was something serious your Dr. would have mentioned it to you. Your kids sound soooooooooooo adorable...and very funny!

    --------------------------------------

    Have a nice day girls!

Wow !!!!  Glad things are not worse, Blackjack.  What a thing to have happen now, huh !!!  Guess one of the reasons that I avoid stairs is that I don't do well with them anymore.  Our first house here 11 years ago had an upstairs and basement.  A neat Cape Cod.....but the stairs got to be a real drag after a while --- I should say after the movers left.  Sure hope it's not long til' your up and about with no signs of distress left.  So far, I'm still not sorry that I got the new pc with the Vista on it.  There again ---  since I do so little and therefore don't install much if anything....I don't think I will have some of the problems that still abound with Vista.

Julie...I liked Beth's question about God's house and which room was his ?  Probably very confusing in a large building for a 4 yr. old who has her OWN room at home ----  with a bed in it.  Nor sure about your question on blood platelets.  They help blood clots to form....so maybe it was pointed out due to your over-all low blood counts....that you would still be able to clot just fine.  Now that is just a VERY big  GUESS on my part.  I have no real idea otherwise but if there was to be a surgery I'd want everyone involved to know that low blood count would not prevent clotting in any way....

Very cool this a.m. but I liked it.  Not ready for cold for some time yet, but it's nice to not have the hot weather humidity.  Been a strange Aug/Sept so far.  Humane Society meeting this evening.  I have missed the last couple but will go tonight.  Lots to do as always.  Till I get the house done I'll be over my head most days but I no longer mind.  I'll be checking in later.  See you then.

Good morning!  I'm with you, Jackie.  It's cold here this morning.  I have a golf outing this afternoon and think I'd better dress in layers because I hate to be cold.  I want summer back!!!  Boo Hoo!

Connie..so glad that you are thinking about bringing your daughter to the walk.  That would be so much fun and we'd all love to help spoil her!  LOL

Oh Blackjack..........I hope you are doing better.  Ii even hurt with you on this one.  Cuddle up with that heating pad and hopefully you'll be back in motion very quickly.

Laura...have you noticed any improvement with the foot?

Julie..I don't know anything about enlarged platelets.  I agree with Laura that your doctor would have probably discussed them with you if they were something to be concerned about.  If you are still bothered by this, call the doctor's office and ask about it.  There is no need to put additional stress on yourself and the nurse could probably answer you question for you.

Julie R...you're on the countdown.  You're going to have to update your personal info with Laura so that we all know your new last name!  I'm so excited for you!

Mary Jane...as you probably already know, I connected with your youngest (she came to me) and she has her goodie package.  I'm sorry that it took me so long to get it to her.

Ginny...hope your daughter is doing better.  When are you coming back?

I hope everyone is doing well today!  I'm off and running again!  Hugs to all of you.

Hi all...spending a few days with a friend out in Sycamore but just wanted to check in..

Blackjack...OUCH!!!!!!  I have come so close lately to falling down my stairs that I have started to hold on going down.  If I fell, the bottom is ceramic tile and that would not be good!  Hope the heat is helping...did you try some of the heat patches for during the day?  The ones marked for menstrual pain are just the right size for lower back.

Laura...careful with that foot...and BEHAVE!  DH called and told me you called...something about a bunco raid and being a bartender????  I am so sure he got that wrong!  Or maybe not!!!!  I'll give you a call tomorrow when I get home...

Jule....your kids sound VERY funny!  I love how these little people come up with these BIG words.  I was with my 7yr old grandniece and I asked her twice to throw away her juice box...I was told OK, but I was being....wait for it....redundant.  I don't even know if I spelled that correctly!!!!

Take care all and will check back tomorrow evening...cold out here as well...44 this am!

Now I feel sad!  The race is the day of the wedding and we need to travel to the wedding.  I feel badly  about this as I would have loved to walk with you all.

Julie, I walked the maze myself at the Morton Arboretum and I saw the "toddler maze" with its own  crawling path.  So cute.  Chris VanAllsburg wrote a picture book called Abdul's Garden and that would be a great book to read before going in the maze.  They probably read that.

BlackJack, I am so sorry that you did that!  Yes, that would hurt.  Are you back in school or nursing that tailbone?  I hurt my tailbone  tabaggoning one year and it hurt like hell!

I am scheduled  for the next mammogram in a few weeks. I have three very tiny  marks on the breast (looks like bites) and of course I am worried it is something less benign. I keep putting calamine lotion on them and checking in the mirror in the girls' room at school.  I am going to be caught  baring my breasts one of these days checking these three little dang things.  Had I never had BC, I would not think a thing about them.  Like many of you have mentioned, I have noticed that it takes so much longer for little things to clear up.  I am doing the two-week rule as that helps me stay sane.

Hope this finds you all well and happy.

Hi Girls - Just doing a mid day check in here...

blackjack - I really hope you're feeling less battered! There were several times I almost fell down my steps. I finally had carpet put down the middle of them, because I was so paranoid. But if I remember correctly, your stairs ARE carpeted...you were probably going full speed - knowing your energy and the lightning speed you do every thing by.

rita - My foot is a little less painful today...although I am wearing a pain patch on it. But maybe it's starting to heal...I'll still get the MRI on thursday though... Glad you're squeezing in as much golf as you can...soak up that Vit D!

Susan - I'm bummed too! But there's always the 60 mile walk next August! lol Definately keep an eye on those spots...it's so true...after a dx, we are all on hightened alert with EVERY LITTLE THING!

Wendrew - Have a nice time with your friend... I'm impressed, dh didn't screw it up to badly...although I don't know about the RAID part...lol  lol Will fill you in when we talk.

Blackjack - oh my gosh, I'm sorry  you fell!! ouch!!  I hope you are okay. I'm glad something worse didn't happen to you, that's so scary.

Susan - I will say a little prayer for you & your mammos.  Let us know when.

Rita - hope you enjoyed golf.  It actually got a bit warm in the sun today.

Hi to jackie, connie, wendy - everyone!!

When is the walk?  I went on the Komen website but I found old info, I think ?  And it was confusing too.   There were walks, races, marathons..   help please Embarassed

Nurse called - bone scan was clean, and liver nodule is "unchanged" - so YAHOO!!  I cried when she told me.  What a relief.

Wedding dress came in today .. and lo & behold, it's a bit large!!  I was so worried it would be too tight after all of the cake (Sorry JulieB, I ate it all, lol!)

I'm hungry so I'm going to go eat - gotta fill out that dress, lol.

    Hugs & Love, JulieR

    Good Evening Ladies...

I went to work today..big mistake..I had to roll around in my chair all day..and got dizzy. lol

I just loaded up on the Advil and ice packs. One of my kids asked if my butt was cool..I laughed so hard..I told him I had ice packs on them. It was sooo busy today too. Tomorrow I go for a bone scan..yeah just in time with my tailbone issue...so we will see what is what.

Laura..I will be thinking of all of you on the walk..I will be in LV that week..maybe I can get a motorize chair to get around in..maybe they have Cosmo cup holders on them lol

Jackie..I see you have a big day coming up soon..any big plans..

Connie..a mom and daughter weekend is a wonderful memory to have. I have done lots of mommy/daughter spa / vacations with my daughter since she was 5 years old. The best one she loves to talk about is when we did a mommy/daughter fashion show at the Merchandise Mart. We had sooo much fun and she loved having her picture taken for the magazine. Enjoy your time with her..they grow up way to fast.

JulieR...how are the wedding plans going..almost there. You are going to look amazing in the beautiful dress..so don't worry about it. Enjoy the cake..you deserve it.

Rita..hope you can get a few more rounds of golf in before the weather turns.

Wendy...no z for you..too cold outside. burr..Need to see some beach pics to warm us up lol

Stay warm...fuzzy jammies and socks and watch those stairs lol

As for me I am off to get my heating pad...I don't know if I am hot from the heating pad or those darn hot flashes..Just call me a hot one lol

    Evening everyone,

Just back from Humane Society meeting.  They are finally going to bid on a property for the no kill shelter they want.  Humane Society President named it the " House of Hope " long time ago.  She has worked tirelessly through many personal and family medical crisis.  Has umpteen animals boarding at her house for adoption etc.  Hope this thing might work.  She and her family are really too ill to keep up the pace at her house.

Susan...there will be many more races I'm sure and they will come when you are retired as well.  Just an extra bonus for you.  You had no control over when a wedding or the walk for that matter is scheduled but your heart is big and your desire as well.  It will all work out next time I just bet

Glad the foot is a bit better Laura.  Hopefully ---  with the cooler weather some of the "chase" scenes will evaporate on a natural basis.  Sure hope so as you have had way too much trouble with feet lately.  Reminds me a little of what I use to tell my kids when they were young.  They of course, thought you should 'get' a ride everywhere.  I use to tell them....if you were meant to ride all the time God would have put wheels down there.....he gave you feet for a reason so you'll just have to put them to use.  I always got THAT look for my troubles too.

Julie R -- lucky you....most people are dieting right before a wedding but you get to eat.  How great is that ???  Good for you.

Well, got a couple of notes to write so I'll talk to ya'll later.

    Good morning everyone.

Beautiful sunny day outside if a little cool.  That will make it nicer for working today.

How are you doing Becky and WendyTY. ?  Hope all is well with everyone else.

Yep !!!!  I do have a ( DAY ) coming up and what a cute card Wendy, thank you.  I haven't any plans at all. I'm sure I'll just be celebrating how wonderful to have a birthday with all the treatment turmoils behind me.  Course, it was just after my birthday last year that I got the surprise of my life....no more of those, thank you.  That makes this one very sweet....even if I am going to be 63 which I used to think was sooooo old but which has in fact become more of a middle AGE age.  I probably only feel about 50 most of the time.

BONUS:  At this age so many of the things I once dreaded have actually happened to ME instead of other people and I am still alive and kicking and feeling well and eager to keep on keeping on.

Hope you all have a fantastic day whatever you do and as always you are always on my mind.

    Hi

    Can I just vent: Aaaarrrrrrggghhh!

Well, DH  was admitted to hospital last night-- catscan revealed kidney stores and they suspect one is, um, blocking things which may account for the infection/fever/ difficulty peeing for the past 5 days.  He is to have an, um, procedure today where they travel, um, up a certain passageway to break up what may be blocking things and then place a temporary stent in the tube in case anything collapses.  Stent is removed in about 5 days. Procedure is later today-- and I was able to get his sister to be with him at  least. His doc and mine conferred- they don't want me hanging around at the hosp. as my counts are still pretty low.  Dave is justifiably miserable.  Everything is blowing up with a project at work and I have not even had a moment to train the person who will be covering for me for the next 4 weeks.  I've been managing everything solo- kids, house, home etc for the last 5 days- which is fine- you do what yo have to do, but I have done nothing to get prepared for next week. I don't even have any button down shirts.  I went to three different stores last week- you would not think this would be so hard! But what is IN this season and all I can find  are these ruffled things-- that's all I need-- to look like a deranged pirate post surgery. Finally ordered a few from JCP on line that seemed passable- just hoping they will be here in time.  Need to get house cleaned, all shopping done- even have to get some fall clothes for the kids (That's one thing I won't leave to hubby- now THAT would be a disaster! Seriously.)  I had a babysitter lined up for Friday night so that dh and could go out for a nice dinner, night out alone before I'm out of commission...not going to happen and that was our last chance.  Don't even know for sure that he's going to be fully recovered by next week.  aaaargH!!

...and my cat is dying.  Peeing everywhere. Just sleeping all day.....19 yrs old.  Knew it was coming....but....just didn't want to deal with it now....

Ok- rant over--- thanks for letting me vent.

Back to my regularly scheduled mania....

JULIE - OMG - Man...when it rains...it pours! Try to hang in there...you are juggling so many different situations. How could you NOT rant and vent! I truly hope things calm down a bit so you can concentrate on YOU and YOUR upcoming procedure. It's easy to say "it could be worse"...HANG IN THERE! If there's ANYTHING I can do...please just let me know. I'm serious...ANYTHING I'm not that far away!

JACKIE - What a difference a year makes! I'm sure you're saying to yourself..."CRIPE - what a year it's been! and Holy Moly...what the heck?...did all that really happen!" - but you did good, girl! Rock on!

SHARON - What's up? How's everything going with you...?

This is all about Julie of Chicago (temporarlly Julie the Crazed-in her own words)

Go to Lands End on the internet.  Then search for "womens buttondown collar" and order them online.  My Dh gets his shirts this way and they are top quality.

Your DH is in terrible pain.  I know that as I had a friend with stones.  YIKES!

Can you hire someone, just this one time, to clean your house?  You both deserve that.  While the person is clenaing your house, go shopping for school clothes for your kids.  My thought is forget that  Friday dinner if he is  not feeling well.  It will just be a sorrowful event with your worries and his worries.  If he is doing okay go. Tell the babysitter in advance you may need to cancel last minute.

The last part is painful.  If your cat is dying, let her do so sooner, rather than later.  It is hard and depressing,  but maybe it is better for everyone if you release her.  I know about the peeing all over and  this creates stress in and of itself.  This is  coming at a bad time for the whole family.  I will personally come to your house and take your cat to the vets to be released from her suffering if you wish.  You  and your kids could say your good-byes and hug her and I will take your cat to the vets to give her some peace.  As Laura says, I mean it!  I will do that.

JulieChicago - I'm so sorry.  That sucks.  You have SO MUCH going on all at once - you, your hubby, your kitty - why does it happen like that ??   I'll never understand it.

Just want to give you big hugs, and say a little prayer for you - eventually things will get better, they will - try to have that faith, even though right now you probably wanna say "oooohhhhhhh crrraaaaapppp!"

I guess I missed the post that tells us when your surgery is ???

Julie Chicago....Our motto here is "Illinois Gals are Tough!" and you are certainly proving it......trying to deal with all the things that have been tossed your way.  I wish I was closer to help.  The gals on this thread from the Chicago area are super.  Some have volunteered to help you.  Let them help.  They will feel good about being able to help and you will have less to stress about at this time.  We're here for each other, hon!

Sending hugs and prayers across the miles to you and your family.  Like Julie R says...have faith that things will get better and allow others to help you, as you would certainly be there to help them when they're down.  HUGS!

Hi all....back from Sycamore yesterday evening and I see I have missed a lot, as usual.

JulieChicago.....when it rains it pours, doesn't it honey?  Susan gave you great advice.  What else would you like us to do?  Can we help?  Your surgery is coming up fast...do you have a list of what you absolutely HAVE to get done before?  I know I speak for all the girls here....can we at least take care of one or two of those items?  Do you just need a hug?  If all you need to do is scream and yell...then come here and do just that.  We have very big shoulders and we all give great hugs.  I read something a day or two ago...not much help...but I thought it was true, if you think about it.

"It will all be well, and it will all be well, and eventually - it will all be well".

So hang in, and let others help you right now.  It needs to be all about you and I know you are finding that very hard but you need all your strength to get thru the next phase in your life and you need some help...so take it.

    Hugs honey!  Big, big hugs!

Morning again....my hair appt. got pushed back to 9:30.

Blackjack....ouch!  How are you doing?  What's the verdict on your tailbone? (PS:  I use Resolve for any and all carpet spills - that stuff is terrific!)

Susan....you are so sweet to offer to take JulieChicago's cat to the vet.  How's school going?

Rita....must be pretty chilly these mornings out on the golf course!

Sharon....how are things?  Still waiting to see what's what in 3 months?

Smerf....son moved yet to Ohio?  It's not that far you know, Mom!

Jackie...do you have your tickets yet for CA?  You go next month, correct?

Laura....how's the foot?  You better be behaving....but probably not as I just called you and you're not home!  Hopefully you are not out in the woods, pulling buckthorn!

Had a nice visit with my friend, and a good appt. with the rad onc, but DH's car since hitting that hole last week?  Not so good news.  The 2 tires were replaced and now the steering is going - it's a $1200. part and the car is almost 5 years old so I guess he will be going car-shopping.  I'm not going to go this time - I think I will just let him pick out what he wants and put it in his name.  That way - if anything goes wrong with THIS car, I won't get blamed!  Our village said the construction co. is responsbile for the hole, and that company told us then we shouldn't be driving thru a construction zone!  And just exactly HOW is one supposed to get out of our subdivision!  They are almost one year behind on this road-widening project!

OK....nuff about my trials and tribulations!  Hope you all have a wonderful day...sounds like rain is coming later tonight and for tomorrow.

Julie - so sorry to hear about everything you have going on.  My nephew is currently going through a kidney stone issue.  Painful!

When is your surgery?  My thoughts are with you!  You will make it through, but it sucks that you have all this going on at once.

Good idea about hiring a cleaning lady.  It would take a huge load off your shoulders.

    Hi to everyone else!!Wink

    Hi all,

I'm back at work work thank goodness...just when I was about to go BROKE.  Whew!!!!!  I'll make it but by the skin of my teeth.

Julie, these gals are really wonderful, aren't they!!!!  If only I was there ( former housekeeper ) I could clean your house and give you the GOOD rate --  extremely affordable.  Did that for 9 yrs. when I lived in Santa Barbara, California.  Much younger then so I actually enjoyed it...a lot.  A famous client and near famous.  I could help now, but never do it for a living anymore.

Wendy, I don't have my ticket yet --- it's a present from my daughter so she will take care of it.  I'm sure looking forward to it all though.

Been wondering --  is this construction zone a public street basically ---  and we already know there were no signs to warn you.  Sounds like they do not want to ante up to me, but I really don't know what the law is on those things.  I think I would be checking though.

Love seeing all the avatars of the smiling faces here.  Cheers me up just scrolling through...

    See ya'll later.

    Jackie

Wendy    Glad to hear of your nice visit, and good onc visit too. My son is still here until next Wednesday when we will drive him to Columbus. Have been spending a lot of time with him as he does a lot of work on his coop apartment in Hyde Park. He has rented it out for the next year, but then may put it on the market, so this is the only time he had for reno. nice that he asks my opinion on something!

Jackie...Sounds like you are way ahead of me in organizing. Closets are on my list to do during bad winter weather this year.

Laura...hope your foot feels better very soon. Is this three things happening, and now you should be finished? Gosh, it seems like you are getting more than your share, and still you reach out to help others. That's a greast Illinois gal! Tough as nails, but kind as can be.

Julie...Let me join the others in offering some help to you. I'm so sorry for all this raining down on you at one time. My husband had the stent too, and it was not easy to tolerate. Obstructive kidney stones are medical emergencies, especially when septic with fever. My dh was diagnosed at the ER after about 24 hours at home in terrific pain. Never again will I allow him to stay home that long with so much pain. I've told him if he refuses to let me take him in, I will call 911, and he can explain it to the EMS people. Men are too much! I'm thinking of you, and hoping things will calm down soon. Let us know what we can do.

Hi to everyone else, and hope you all are doing well.

    Hugs, Pat

Juliechicago..my thoughts and prayers are with you. Remember that we have all been through different types of treatment..so ask away with your questions. There are no dumb questions. We all have are own personal healing stories..and we are here for you. So on that note ask away...sending you a big healing wrap around hug to you.
