    Hey Illinois girls,

It's been a long time since I have checked in here, I'm on the YSC boards more often. This post is huge! Glad to see everyone still connecting!

I'm in Glen Ellyn, and have recently written a book about my BC experience and malpractice case. It will be on Amazon.com in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for local marketing? BC support groups or other groups where BC survivors get together? I want to share my story, but most of all, want to raise funds for the organizations where I am donating the majority of the proceeds.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, they would all be appreciated!

    Best,

    Tina

Linda...welcome to our little part of the world.  I'm so sorry that you had such a terrible time with the Xeloda but glad that you are doing better on the Taxotere.  I think all of us understand the nagging fears that we try to contain in the backs of our minds.  You'll see that these sometimes creep out as routine check-ups roll around and we all try to encourage each other.  It's good to see another "down-stater" on our thread.  Jackie needs some company down there!  :-)  Anyway, welcome and do come back often to post.

Michele, I'd love to see your hair.  I bet it's really cute.  I still say, though, that any hairstyle would look cute on you!  :-)   And imagine that.......you're looking younger just as you're about to get another year older!

Blackjack...take care of that back.  For some reason, moving furniture doesn't seem to go well with a bad back!  Delegate, girl!  LOL

JulieB..Good luck on Friday!  We'll be anxiously awaiting news about your surgery.

JulieR...It's almost here!  I'm so excited for you!  Oh no...you won't be Julie R anymore will you?  What will be call you after Friday????

Laura...our shirts have arrived for the walk!  Now all I need to do is remember to bring them!  LOL  That direct shipping worked real well!  Can't wait to see you and the other walkers again!  I'm hoping for a great Fall day for the walk.

Well....there's always something to do around here anymore and I need to get to work.

    Catch you all later!

    Woah, so much news.

JulieChicago, I am just amazed at all your challenges.  I just do not know what to say.  Fortunately for you, Illinois Women are TOUGH and you are one tough Illinois lady.  I think I have this straight and I do not want to add any more into the mix of anxiety here, but didn't you have bronchitis a month or so ago?  I know you want to avoid that again.  I have no idea what to tell you.  I guess no fever, no lung action, yes surgery. Listen to your doc and Smerf and what your body is saying!

Hi Linda!  So happy to meet you.  You are so wise. Our new normal is scary.  I had some spots (red spots)  on my breast and I actually awoke in a sweat (no, not a hot flash, but a FLASHBACK of cancer # 1) with worry.  They now appear to be going away.  I have a mantra now.  "I can choose to  be hysterical and out of control, or I can place the control of this in another hand and remain calm."  Only problem, I have no idea whose hands I am placing the control  in( God, the docs, fate, whomever?).  Anyway, it sounds like you have it covered with a  supportive family.  I feel, as I am sure you do, that I am so lucky to have "adult" children facing this with me.  How hard it must be for our beautiful young moms who seek to comfort babes and be comforted themselves with a new normal.

Blackjack, I am not a nurse but I would think YOU would agree that women with bad backs should not be moving furniture.  Anyway, good luck.

    My love to all,

    Susan

Ok, finally got a new avatar. Thanks for your kind words Rita.

JulieChicago-Hang in there. Take it one day at a time, accept help from others and know that we are all thinking about you. I'm glad you have family around to help.

Ok, I wasn't going to get back on here tonight....had a long day and need to do some stuff and get ready for work tomorrow.  Just had to tell you since I wanted to see it.......how fantastic you look Mich.  You look all of 28 and a half in that picture and I'm not kidding.  It's a very 'cool' look you have.  Isn't it great to have real hair back --- even if it has some problems of some kind.  I love the wig I have, but after a while it sure gets tiresome and even though I thought I'd want to wear the wig a much longer time I find myself enjoying my very, very short straight hair look....and even my boss said...come as you are if you want I'm all for it.  I had shown him how my hair was coming along.  Anyway, the new pic is great and you look gorgeous with a personality to match.

    See ya'll tomorrow.

Hey ladies - just a quick hello to everyone.   JulieChicago, I sent you a PM.

I'm fighting a cold myself & my wedding is less than 48 hours away.   Trying to get everything ready & get proper rest at the same time.

I will not be on the boards again until after the wedding...      we are not going on an immediate honeymoon.  We'll be taking one in the future though.. who knows when, but we will do it!

Thanks for all of the well wishes, everyone!! I am looking forward to a beautiful day, cold or no cold.   Isn't champagne good medicine for a cold??  That's my new theory - at least for Friday.

Take care - JulieR   (soon to be JulieA)

Hope everyone is doing good.  Sounds like alot of stuff is going on..

Rita...I am going to the Community Cancer Center Dinner in October.  Are you going to be able to go too.  It was alot of fun last year..

Ginny, feet up above heart....hope it's not lymphedema-related.

I'm finally having compression sleeve apptmt. at LeHan's in DeKalb Thursday.

You never know when one might get the urge to fly!

Reminder: someone got lymphedema while flying several years AFTER lymph node surgery.

I am pondering if it will be wise to play vball and wallyball with it, not sure that will work out, I will have to ask. Also, it might make the ball go strangely, I never could wear long sleeves during games due to that...

    ??

and I'm thrilled you had good news about daughter doing well.

Morning!  Gosh...lots of posts to catch up on.  Spent Tuesday and yesterday in bed - with an ear infection!  Where do I catch these things????  Hopefully I can get a few things done today - and re: my windows....

Republic Windows only warrantees them for 5 years (house is 7.5 yrs old) but they are coming out Sat. morning to look at three houses on our block. They are thinking water is coming from the 2nd floor and running down, which would be the builder's fault and would mean a huge mess for us!  But a friend tipped me off to research  construction fault law so I will do that if it turns out the builder screwed up.  If I have to....I will picket their newest development out here.  With today's housing mess I really don't think they need to lose customers!

JulieChicago....are you OK?  Hopefully your cold is resolving....having to wait until NOVEMBER is crazy!  How's your DH doing?

Welcome Linda!  Glad you joined the club no one chooses to join...and as for feeling "normal" - well, good luck with that!  We refer to it as "Weird - it's the new normal".  We really need to get some bumper-stickers.....

    Hey Karin....missed you!

    Laura....nice shoes!

Blackjack....I agree with Smerf...why start with an MRI?  Interesting......and I hear that wine heals tailbones.  Take 2 with jammies and you will feel much better!

Ginny....hopefully NOT lymphedema.  HAve you had previous problems with flying and swollen ankles?  When we have gone to Hawaii in the past my feet are always puffy until the next morning...

I will have to catch up later....I'm still not feeling all that great so I think back to bed for a bit will be a good idea!  DH has appt. with his electrophysiologist today - he's been out of rhythm for days and days and just lately has had some episodes of chest pain but it's actually more rib - but he's going to get it checked out.  And of course...this am...he feels just perfect!  Figures.....

I am still planning on lunch for tomorrow - if you think I am contagious I could just sit in the bar and we could text back and forth!  Maybe I could pick up a younger man.......

PS:  Mich101 - your hair looks great!

    Good morning everyone!

The countdown continues for our Julies!  We're with both of you every step tomorrow!  Hugs to you both!

Michele....just as I thought! Your hairstyle is so becoming and you look SO cute.  I agree with Jackie that it DOES make you look younger.  Now who wouldn't be for that?????

Karin..so nice to hear from you again.  Pop in more often.  We've missed you.

Wendy...rest up so you feel better!  As for picking up a younger man (LOL), just think about it for a minute.  You'd have to go to the trouble again to train him and some of these younger guys are harder to train!  LOL

Ginny, I need to talk to you about the October dinner.  I don't know if we are talking about the same thing or not.

I need to write some questions but wanted to pop in and see what was going on.  Hopefully I'll have time to pop in later tonight.  Have a great day, everyone!

Lots happening.  Both Julies have a big day tomorrow.  I will be thinking of you both often.

I sure wish I was joining you ladies on the walk.  I would love to see your daughter, Connie.  I would love to see all of you.  This wedding is important, however, as this is the daughter of my husband's high school buddy.  I haven't even thought of what I will wear.  I hate buying something for a one-time event.

School is going very well!   I am glad this is my last year and I am taking time to really enjoy it this year.  My daughter is expecting her second baby in February.  I feel I am so blessed.

So happy that your foot is better, Laura.  I guess no wheel chair for you on the walk, afterall.

We are so lucky to have each other. Cancer is awful and good for nothing and I wish I never had it, but I am grateful I met you all.  have a good tomorrow.

I sent this before.  If I were not working and trying to keep my sick days that add up towards retirement, I would do this.   Some of you may want to consider this as part of a mini-vacation into the city.  Just for your information, here is the link again:

I am feeling human again so I will see all of you at lunch.

Julies....hope today is everything you need/want it to be!  Hugs to both of you as you start on this new journey.

Susan...glad you are enjoying your last year.  Must be very bitter-sweet for you.

Everyone else....hope you are doing well and are happy.  And if not....am sending you a hug this morning!  Gotta run as I need to do a few things before Maggiano's....

At seven in the morning, nearly on the dot, I thought of Julie of Chicago walking down that hall for her surgery.  Isn't that weird as that was just the time that she was scheduled for surgery.  Well, okay, it was five after!  Funny how you think about someone you have never even met in person.

Wendy, you sure get up early!  I admire that trait.  I love to sleep.  Hve fun at Maggianos!

Wendy, I hope you are feeling better.

I am taking the day off to get appointments in line for my surgery next Thursday. Doing okay- hanging in there right now....I think the panic will set in next week:)

Have fun at lunch today. Too bad I can't meet you all but my appointments go from 11 - 12ish and then back at 2. I also have to pre-register at the hospital and I am not giong to assume that it will go quickly.

Looking forward to the walk.  Haven't gotten our shirts yet.  Laura - where and when are we meeting again?

Jackie - love the Abraham Lincoln stats.  My boss would like that one.  He is always adding those type of things onto his signature line on his email.

Good Morning all!  Well..the lunch bunch got to see JulieR (aka now...JulieA!) yesterday as she and her VERY handsome fiance got out of the white stretch limo at Maggiano's....and she looked so beautiful!  You know how they always say that brides are glowing?  She was.  We all waved and Jan snapped a quick pic and we wished her well from all of us.  Just another concrete example of how breast cancer can knock us down...but we get up and go on and LIVE!!!!!  And are HAPPY!!!!  And we LOVE!!!!!  And our lives are filled with JOY!!!!  Congratulations Julie and Brian!

JulieChicago - we don't know what happened yesterday but since you haven't popped back on we are assuming that you did indeed have your surgery yesterday.  When you are feeling up to it...please let us know how you are.  You were in our thoughts yesterday at the lunch.

Jule.....surgery date is coming up fast!  Anything you need?  Anything we can do to help?  Just ask.....

Jackie....you must be so excited to meet Alissa!  I can't imagine not knowing about a granddaughter until she was nearly grown...I bet you have the  days marked off on the calendar!  Please don't forget about checking into a sleeve and gauntlet for your flight!

Smerf...couldn't believe the picture of your "swimming pool".  You were so lucky your house didn't flood!

Jan...thanks for bringing your "foobs".  I was so surprised re: the $7000. ones - not at all what I expected.  The $600. ones to me felt quite real and the little $5. ones?  Well....they would certainly do the trick in a bra.  I found it interesting...just a little piece of info I will store away.  You know...just in case!  I vote for scans, then "out da*n port!"!  I love your haircut by the way...you look so cute.  I wish I was brave enough to go that short!

Susan....it seems as if almost all ladies are switchng to pants for weddings!  Why not look into a pair of really beautifully cut and tailored (read: expensive!) black silk trousers and then get some type of top in a really pretty color - like that pink you have on in your avatar!  Truthfully - with your hair color, any of the jewel tones would look beautiful on you.  The pants you would have forever!  That way you wouldn't just be buying a "wedding" dress!

Kater, Leesa - we missed you yesterday!  I wasn't driving out of the parking lot until almost 3pm!  Talk about a chatty little bunch!

Sharon....I love seeing you like this, rather than just reading your posts from half-way around the world.  Altho - that is nice too!

Blackjack - hopefully you will get some answers on Monday and then you are off to Vegas for fun, fun, fun!  You are so cute when you get excited!  And personally - I will have to put you up for "Mother of the Year" - you are such a good Mom!  Loved your Costco dress....who knew!

Laura - what the heck did you use to get "mannequin feet"?  Not that it looked bad mind you - I think it did exactly what it promised to do - make you look like you had hose on!  But maybe you were going more for the "tanned" look?  That spray would be excellent for a function when you know you SHOULD wear hose, but really don't want to.  It would work perfectly.  Good luck with the chunky highlights - I dont' know tho how you could possibly look any cuter!

Connie....Republic window rep will be here this am between 8 and 10 and I will let you know what's what.  The Gen Mgr for building from Cambridge builders (DR Horton) also called DH...we get the feeling that they know it's NOT the windows, but something else AND they know what it is.  Now I am really getting nervous re: mold!

Time to get pretty for the window guy....hope everyone has a wonderful, happy last day of summer.  It looks like a winner, weatherwise.  Wherever you are in treatment - I hope you are doing as well as you can and please find a moment today to have some fun and enjoy just being here!  Hugs!!!!!!

Sounds like lunch was fun yesterday. My surgery is for Thursday, the 25th, at West Suburban  "Resurrection" in Oark Park. Doing bilateral with lymph node removal under the left arm, sentinel node biopsy on right breast, and port removal! I don't know what I need....I am hoping to just be calm as I am beginning to be a little more nervous with all of the appointments I had yesterday.

Susan, are Wilmette teachers going to strike? Are you at the high school (New Trier) or one of the elementary schools?

Good morning everyoneLaughingNo sun yet this a.m. but it's ok with me.  It's beautiful anyway.  Julie R is now Julie A which is fantastic and of course, hope things went fine for Julie/Chicago and Jule just take things one day at a time.  We all get out the other side of this that way.

Wendy....a pm via regular email is coming to you so watch for it.

Got lots to do today, just don't know if I really will.  Sometimes laziness overtakes me before I know it and I just waste the day away...hopefully, that won't happen today.

Well, I'll be checking in through the day.  All be well....specially Julie/Chicago.  We are pretty sure Julie A is just fine now aren't we???

    See ya,

    Morning Girlz!

OF COURSE - lunch bunch was fun...didn't shut up for a minute. Everyone looked healthy and happy. As usual, blackjack wore a sexy little dress and looked great! AND we saw CINDERELLA! aka: JulieA looked FAB...and her new dh is a hottie! lol

JulieA - CONGRATULATIONS! I think you should change your screen name to cinderella...you look just like Leslie Ann Warren.

JulieB - We haven't heard from you...I think that means you're probably recooperating...if so, hang int there, you're almost done with all this cra*.

Jule - Best wishes to you next week...Everything's crossed for B9 results.

Wendrew - It's called airbrush legs by Sally Hansen, BUT when I met my Rocktober sisters in Vegas, one of the girls "wore" Air Stocking (airstocking.com) and it was better. I may have put mine on too thick...I was running late.

    Hi Ladies:

It sounds like you had a blast at lunch.  Blackjack, how is it you can do lunch?  Aren't you a nurse in a school?  Maybe I am all mixed up,

To the Julie who asked.  I teach 8th grade in THE OTHER Wilmette district, so I am not going out on strike, Thank Goodness! I looked at the last few posts and I had typos,  I promise I am a good ENGLISH teacher.  I just rush to get a quick post out and I fail to spell check!  Bad girl!

Jackie, I put up the data on Lincoln on the board for my students.  They loved it.  They especially loved that his fiance died and that he had a nervous breakdown...ahhhhhhh kids!

     Have a fun night, everyone!

    Susan
