Oh my my my my Laura.......you SO dont have some horrendous cancer ! Yep Im sure your cervical lymph nodes are enlarged and tender......they ALWAYS are when you have an infection like you have in your throat.....cervical glands are almost never painful or swollen when its a malignancy.....I SO hope you went and got that Quick Strip

Wendy......mmmmmmmm dessert.....there is a place on Butterfield Rd called Millers Pub....and they have a homemade Nutter Butter Ice Cream and cookie pie that I like more than almost anything in the world......its beyond delicious.....soooooo we went for early dinner.....and for a walk......and then for that cake and coffee later on and I actually ate my very own piece, we usually split one to try to be *good* it was AMAZING !!!!! Tomorrow......I go back to diet and healthy or I will put on every pound I lost to bc and that was the ONLY good thing to come out of that whole ordeal.  oooooo but before tomorrow.....we are going to my sons for dinner Superbowl and birthday and he is making me lasagne......no scale tomorrow for sure !!!!!

I heard we are going back into the deep freeze this week......ugh

    Love to all

It's me again.......tree was down yesterday.  It was so very dead.  I knew this as every time I came home from Marion last summer....I looked up to...not one single leaf on that tree.  Funny thing was the summer before it was full.  Keith did have one other fellow on the ground......but it was still only $300.00.  Keith is certified and carries enough insurance to do government jobs so I feel very, very fortunate.  I think ( he knows where I work too ) that he knew our kind of budget would not easily handle huge sums.......and like when I cleaned houses....you usually estimate any of your jobs so that there is the possibility of your making more money if you do it faster.  Meaning....I would quote a price for four hours knowing that every other week I could do it in three.  ----  Keith did something on this order and also.....we will do a lot of the after clean-up when Keith and his friend get all the wood they want from the tree.

Laura.....I feed my feral cats Purina----I think it's called Kit & Kabootle or something like that.  It's about $10.99 for a large bag --- 18 - 20 lbs. or so.  I usually give them fresh water every time I feed as well.

In summer if it's really, really hot.......because the small water bowls are small and they evaporate quickly....I buy in-expensive small cans of wet food and mix it with the dry so they are not eating dry only.....and get some moisture --- but winter is dry only......except for Thanksgiving and Christmas when they get a couple of whole cans of wet food along with the dry........they need to celebrate too.  Ok.....it costs me way too much money and it is one of the reasons I still work buy hey.....it makes me happy and it does them good....it's a win-win situation.  Hard to turn down when you look at it like that.    I'll be sending you an email too Laura....but right now it's time to go do the ferals.

    See ya'll later.

    Hi Laura,

The sore throat can be a virus, or some other bug that just has to run its course, and will do no harm. I agree with Jan, lymph nodes enlarge with infection, with colds and the like. The reason strep needs antibiotics is that the strep bug can cause harm to our hearts or kidneys. The throat itself is not the problem, because it will get better on its own. I'm so happy to hear it isn't strep! Good plan to get some input from your doc tomorrow.

Thanks Susan, but I do have a tree guy already. I've used him for the last 33 years spent in this house. He gives me a little break because we were among his very first clients when he was just starting out in business, and he is nearby. I agree with you on getting multiple quotes, because they can be very different. We have no lakefront, so we are not technically "northshore."

Jackie...Keith sounds good, and also very nice. My guy is nice too, and lets me pay the bill over a few months without charging me interest. I know he doesn't usually do that, but we have known each other so long, and watched each other's kids grow up.

I'm off to do some Superbowl cooking. I don't care for football much, but my DH loves it. I know he enjoys the game more if he has someone to watch with him, so I do it unless I invite people over. That's always fun, but I didn't feel like that much work this year, so it is only us! I figure he was nice enough to sit with me for 20 chemos over six months, so I can stand one football game.

    PS

I think I'll root for Arizona, because they have never been in a Superbowl before. I know the Steeler's have won, so I'll take the underdog this time.

Morning...I guess it's going to be an interesting day.  Wreath on my mudroom door fell on my head when I walked past and AOL will not let me log on.  OK then...back to bed!

Hope you all had an exciitng Superbowl weekend....I hear the game was great, I did see some of the commercials and of course, the Boss was fantastic as usual.  DH is really trying to stick to his diet so we had NO snacks whatsoever.  Rita...I read "The Killing Hour" by Lisa Gardner all thru the game...couldn't put it down!  Hope you are enjoying that great Florida weather.  Will be cold here on Tues/Wed with some snow showers tomorrow, but then in the 40's the rest of the week.  Maybe the January thaw has come at last.

Laura....hope you are feeling much better today!

Susan...a lot of Walgreens and CVS stores have mini-clinics in them, staffed by Nurse Practioners.  I went to CVS when I was stung 5 times by bees last fall and my leg looked a little strange.  I was in, examined, RX faxed across the street to Walgreens and home in under one hour...it was $59., I paid my $10 copay and the rest was billed to ins.  I went back there for my flu shot and they took my insurance and I paid nothing.  This works really well, when you think about it...for something like my stings or Laura's throat.  Would I go there for chest pain?  Of course not...but when you just need a 2nd set of eyes and maybe an antiB...this is great!  You can just google Walgreens or CVS to see where the closest one to you is located.

Well...I am going to try aol again and see what's what...busy week this week so I hope it's just an AOL glitch and not this new computer!  Have a great day!

Good morning everyone.....you can see where my heart is in the quote.  Hmmm, I got my snow and now it's time to move on to better things.  I'm looking forward to getting things done and having my yard be presentable this year.

I hope you will all have a fantastic day....

Morning everyone!  So sorry, I haven't checked in.  I had a ton of work to catch up on Friday and spent the weekend getting unpacked, laundry, house cleaned, etc.

Laura - hope your throat is better.  I have gone to the urgent care many of time because of a sore throat.  It's not overkill.  I know they call it urgent, but it really is for times when you feel sick and your Dr. is closed.  That's interesting about the Walgreens as urgent care costs much more for a copay.   Hopefully, it's just a virus and it will start feeling better for you.  I feel so bad that you were up all night worrying.  But, I understand.....

We had a great trip to St. Thomas.  We spent a lot of time just laying on the beach.  Normally, I am not that kind of person, but it was kind of nice.  DH went diving one day and said it was the best dive he has been on.  The water is just so crystal clear.  We snorkeled several times and took a day trip to St. John's and the British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke.  Evenings were filled with dinners with my colleagues which were very nice.  The first night, we had dinner on the beach in our bare feet with a great band playing.  It really was paradise!

Back to reality - off for my 6 month visit with my onc this morning.  I imagine it will be uneventful since I already saw my bs and he said everything looks great.

I'm not a football fan either, but my son wanted to watch it.  It was actually a pretty good game.

Lots of talk about diets.. today's the day for me.  I know I'm tall and thin, but I lost about 15 lbs on chemo and looked great this time last year.  It started creeping back up over the summer (too many snacks and drinks out on the boat) and after the great meals/drinks in St. Thomas, I am at an all time high.  My downfall is popcorn.  I was actually craving it in St. Thomas - I made some for lunch the day after we got back!  I have to have it at least once a week and of course, it has to have the good butter and salt on it.

I didn't get a chance to go back and read posts, so I hope everyone is doing well.  Looking forward to the warm up later this week.

    Good Monday morning everyone,

I guess it's been a while since I posted - I'm way behind on everything!

Connie - glad you had a nice trip!!!

Laura - I hope you are feeling better today.

Not much up over here, just going to spend the week doing all of my laundry & cleaning the house & getting ready for surgery on Friday.  The 6 week restriction is the worst part!!!   Enjoyed watching the Superbowl last night with DH.  The Boss was good entertainment too.

Well I'm off to do some cleaning in my bedroom closet - whoohooo.

Take care ladies - miss you all!! Hugs, Juliet

The game actually was great.  I felt sorry for the Cardinals as they were so far ahead and then.......!

Wendy, thank you for telling me about the clinics. I get those bladder infections and I need to get on something quick or they spiral out of control.  And it seems like they always occur over the weekend when the doctor is out.

Juliet, I will be thinking about you on Friday.

Connie, your trip sounds wonderful.  I am definitely a "on the beach" kinda person. I am getting my list of books to read in order for the summer when I can sit on my deck and read.  I am just beginning Revolutionary Road for the book club I am in.  It looks depressing.  That is what happens with book clubs....you get stuck with the pick.

Hope all have a good day.  All seem to agree that this has been a particularly hard winter.

    Morning Girls,

Just a quick check in.  I had appts the past 2 weeks with the radiologist and oncologist.  Everything is fine. I will have a pet scan in 3 months, an ultrasound on my right leg in March to check on my blood clots.  I get to go off Lovenox on March 22nd..I am so excited about that. My stomach looks like a big bruise...I go today and get my sleeve and gauntlet for my left arm.  I am so looking forward to that..NOT...Oh well...You gotta do what you gotta do.  I also have a cold and feel pretty crappy.  I spent the whole weekend in bed.  But I can't miss work so here I am at work.

My friends and I went to the boat in Peoria.  I came back with 220.00 and my daughter came back with 125.000.  The rest didn't win anything.  I felt bad but we all had a great time.

Connie..what fun you had.  I get to go to Florida in April.  I am excited about that.

Juliet...good luck with your surgery..I hate the part where you can't really do anything for 6 weeks.

Laura....hope you are feeling better.  It's hard not to worry about every new pain and stuff and not thinking that it might be cancer.  I still feel that way sometimes.

Everyone else.....have a great day.. It's supposed to warm up this weekend almost 60

Me again.  I just have to post this silly experience I had.  I too "Dr. Google" symptoms way more than I should and I too think I have something new and scary.  I was just "researching" my newest worry and was getting more and more convinced I had this thing....as I had all the same symptoms .......and then I noted the the site I was on........Horses!  I was on some farm vet's webpage!

If we don't laugh, we may just tear up!

    Good morning!

Susan - TOO FUNNY! lol OMG

Well - I AM feeling better - slept really late  this morning, but that's good...my throat feels better. How weird! I hate these mystery illnesses! I don't feel as achy and feverish. So I guess I won't be dying in the near future. lol I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOO paranoid. I wonder if there's a pill for that?

Hope you're all having a nice day. I am going to take it easy.

Connie - Your trip sounds so nice!

Ginny - Glad you checked in. You did well at the boat! Question: how did you know you had blood clots? Did you have obvious symptoms?

Good afternoon girls....hope everyone is having a wonderful day...enjoying the sunshine. I had a busy weekend up north with my kids. They went snowmobiling  this weekend and had a great time. It was not that cold so it was fun for them. They are having Winter fest this weekend in Lake Geneva. They are having an ice sculpturing contest. Ice Artists from all over the world come and compete for the best and largest ice sculptor. It is amazing to see what you can carve out of a block of ice. I am looking forward to seeing this years sculptors.

My kids are heading back to school today and I am feeling sad. My dd left me a wonderful cd of all piano music for my computer. I am listening to it now and it is soooooo calming and relaxing.

I just love when they are home..but hate to see then leave....just a mom thing.

Juliet..what time is your surgery Friday. My mil is having hers at 7am. May just see you there too.

Laura...are you being good or no Red Lobster for you. lol

Rita...having fun in the sun. How are the beaches and did you safe a chair for me. lol

Jackie...I hope you don't have anymore snow..we need to think spring.

Connie..glad to see that you had fun in St. Thomas. Did you do any shopping out there. Glad to see that you had a great trip. Now we need to think boating season.

Wendy....how is the head. flying wreathes. ouch. lol

Susan...your story is soooooo fun. too much info is not a good thing for us. lol Self diagnosing is not the best thing to do either..it makes our imaginations fly away. I would still stick with the good old pmd.

Smerf.. how are you.. packed for your trips yet. I am so looking forward to LV. I can't wait not that I am too excited. lol

Ginny..glad to see you were a winner at the boat. hey for you.

Well, just wanted to check in and say hi. Need to go clean up the mess my kids left me and oh the laundry pile too. lol  Have a great afternoon...enjoy the sunshine. Think spring.

    Remember to be healthy....be happy

Hi Girls! - Just took a hot bath and now I'm drinking antioxident green tea. Do any of you know if Flax seed is okay to eat after a bc dx? I bought a bag of Flax seed meal (as in corn meal) and want to start adding it into my cereal, juicies, muffin mix, etc. It's really good for you. It can even be added to pancake mix.

Still not feeling 100%. Today it was weird - I had a sharp pain in my ear for a few seconds and that was it...haven't had it again. What the heck was that all about!? Gawd...

blackjack - You had a nice time with your kids... that's great. Let's talk tom or Wednesday morn.

    Sweet Dreams!

Morning!  1 whole degree on my deck.  Yuck.  But....looks like most if not all of the snow will miss us out here in the W suburbs and then 50 over the weekend...just need to get thru today and tomorrow.  Went to take the Z out for a run to charge the battery and it took me 3 tries to start her up...didn't sound like the battery tho...so hopefully she will start up later this am and I will fill up the tank...I was down to a half and maybe the fuel line was frozen.  Or my Z just didn't want to leave the garage!

Susan...OMG!  I just laughed and laughed at you....and what equine disease have you come down with?????????  The things we do to ourselves.

Laura...you sound better!  RE: flax seed....Blackjack told me about that and I was very interested in starting that and then I researched it a bit, here and on the internet in general.  Looks like that MIGHT NOT be a good idea as SOME consider flax seed to be a phytoestrogen, OR...it behaves as a phytoestrogen.  So for me, being ERPR+....I won't be taking it.  Why not give your onc a buzz and ask tho?  He may feel that it's just fine.  I have gotten those strange zaps in my ear over the years...you are right, one zap and gone.  So...I wouldn't concern myself too much with that...more probably due to high volume car stereos and iPods!

Blackjack...glad you had so much fun with your kids.  When do you leave for LV?

    Rita....having fun?  Lucky girl...

Connie...that dinner on the beach with the music and your bare feet in the sand?  Heavenly.  Can I come work with you?  Or FOR you?  I could be your assistant!!!!!

Jacks....how are the ferals?  DH took your quotes to school and will use them in his next 3 newsletters.  So...thanks!

Ginny...congrats on the win on the boat!  The sleeve and gauntlet aren't that bad...just got a few looks as I was putting them on in the airport.  Truthfully...they look more like you injured yourseld playing tennis or something...AND.....people feel sorry for you and help you with your luggage.  If you look hard enuf there is always a perk to everything!

Juliet.....I will be thinking about you come Friday...and you will be fine.  And you will love the results!  Just one last hurdle to jump over...

Carol...how are you feeling?  How's the  secret project coming?

To everyone else....dress warm and be careful in the snow if you live by the lake.  I have a lunch date with my nephew's wife for her BD so I am looking forward to spending time with just her, instead of the whole family.  Have a good Tuesday!

HEY...BJ....when's the next lunch/dinner?  Can't wait to see everybody...it's been a looooong time since 12/8!

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.

Good Morning all....brrr.  It's -9 here today with the wind chill but 50 by the week-end and yep---sounds like we will get rain out of that.  Strange, but I'm starting to expect it.  All my kitties were fine so far.

Hope you all have a great day.

Jackie - It's amazing how the kitties survive in this weather! I feed one ferrel - but he hasn't eaten in a few days. But...he has done this in the past, so it's wait and see. I have electric bird baths that I keep watered.

    -------------------------------------------

OKAY - dh is "ever so gently" using the "P" word the past few days....PUPPY. He knows I am still heart broken, and he is too...but he's asked me to "think about it". I'm convinced he thinks it would help he and I get over Bud's death. Here's what he just e-mailed me (this pup is available):

I would like to check out the Maltese Rescue site and see what's available there. Although it will not be easy looking at all the dogs there.

Laura - OMG, what a cute little baby!!!!  I would be feeling the same as your DH, to be honest.  Keep us posted on the possibility.

Blackjack - they bumped my surgery up to 11:30am.  Hopefully they won't bump me again though.  Best wishes to MIL on Friday.

Ginny - glad to hear your appts went well & that you won some cash.  That's always nice.

Hi Wendy, Jackie, Smerf, Susan, Connie - and anyone else that I missed.

I'm sure I'll pop back on before surgery again - but if for any reason I do not, I will surely pop by as soon as I can afterwards!

Laura, I love that litte guy.

I always wonder if my cat died if I would get another.  I just love my cat with all my heart and I know she cannot be replaced by any other pet if she died.  She just has her own dear personality.  Everyone makes fun of her because she is all deformed due to a botched hysterectomy (her belly drags along the floor) but I just don't see it.  I just see her lovely spirit.   If you can  accept your new pet and not compare him to Buddy, then think about it some.  Pets make things happier (if you like pets).  Maybe your DH is right.  Maybe this is the right time and maybe it is not.....something to think about.

Ok Laura, since Susan said something maybe I can to.  I read before that when we lose a beloved pet, for many the thing to do is not get another who looks just like the one we lost.  There could be un-fair comparisons  --- especially if the new puppy turned up with some bad behaviors or personality quirks.  Mainly why I said ( I guess hoping you would pick up on it ) get a different color at least.  Frankly, I just didn't want to discourage you from the idea of getting another pet/dog/cat or whatever so I was afraid to say this much.  But, there really aren't enough loving homes to go around and just think of it this way.....you may save someone like me who has way too many thrown away pets to try and take care of.....but better yet....save the animal.  And Susan.....I hope you too in time ( if something happened to your kitty ) would see your way to having another or maybe even two at once.  I deal with the ferals every day.....and many of them did not start out that way ----  they were abandoned, dumped, whatever.  I am feeding one right now who would just as soon be petted as eat.  He turned up at one of the feral cat feeding areas a few weeks ago --- who knows what the story is....but he has not gone feral yet.  I have been considering bringing him home with me.  He would have to live in the screen room but ?????It's obvious with his behaviors that he once has a human companion that took good care of him.  So I hope anyone who has any love in their heart at all will think of how it must feel to have a loving home, human companion and suddenly you are out in the cold, in some un-famaliar place, cast aside by someone else.  Perhaps your owner went to a home, or passed or and you are no long wanted, loved, or protected.  Thrown away like yesterday's bath water...........lordy how did I get started....so Laura, Susan.....anyone who has a soft spot for the animal companions we were given to share the earth and our life with......there are all sorts of places for people to get help but some of these animals need you desperately.

Great to see you again Tdbear and Juliet....good vibes coming your way for your surgery day.  Glendag, I don't think I have met you.  SusieSwan good for you with your 2 pups.....I have four.  About 2 &1/2 too many but too late now.

    See you all later.

Hi gals!  I'm only typing a little bit because this wireless keeps kicking me off and it's quite frustrating!  We're having a good time.  We golf yesterday with a couple from Ohio.  It's really ironic because the lady is an 18 year bc survivor.

Wendy the Younger....I noticed this gal on the beach who was brave enough to show her port.  She was wearing a hat.  We got to talking.  She was diagnosed in June and is just your age.  She reminded me of you with her positive spirit.  You would have loved this golf course.  It was simply gorgeous with LOTS of water.   We are trying a different one tomorrow.

It's cooler here than usual in Florida but it warms up in the afternoons.  We headed out to the Indian casino today but none of us were big winners like Ginny!

We found a neat bar where we watched the Super Bowl and have found some excellent eating places.....lots of good seafood.

Glad you are feeling better, Laura.  I had your same symptoms with this last bout of mine and had the same fears.  I think the sun is helping me out some but I still have to clear my throat more often than I like to avoid coughing.

I hope everyone is doing well.

    I'll catch up more later.

Laura....I knew I had blood clots cuz I had a vacriose vein that swelled and hurt alot. I put moist heat on it and took ibuprofen to help the swelling.  It got worse and was going up my leg.  The veins hurt to touch. They did an ultrasound and found the clots.  That puppy is cute..We are getting a boston terrier that is 7 months old this weekend.  She was rescued from the vets office. An older lady wanted to put her down cuz she was eating her poop.  The vet refused to put her down and called a lady that has 2 boston terriers and she has her and is making sure everything is okay and stuff.

I tried on my sleeve and gauntlet yesterday and it felt good but had to send the sleeve back cuz it didn't have some sort of thing on top so it doesn't roll down.  I should get it back the end of the week.  While I was there, I saw that they did fittings for breast prothesis.  So, I got fitted with one and will be getting that along with 4 bras by the end of week.  I am so excited,  I will have boobies..I still am planning on surgery at the end of the year.  I want the real things, well as close to real as you can get.
