Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vintage point.

Good morning all,
Looks like a great day to finish my planting. I was surprised to be rained on yesterday afternoon, so had to stop. My backyard is like a marsh, and has never been so wet in the last 33 years we have lived in this house.
"Marriage is great most of the time, the trouble is you are married all the time." Maxine.
My quote for the day, but not as inspirational as Jackie's, nor as useful.
I dearly love my DH, but sheesh! We know men are bad patients, and doctors are the worst patients, right? So I am dealing with a double whammy here. Some may remember his broken shoulder from February, but then that was followed by asthmatic bronchitis, followed by shingles. Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, as the shingles pain is now almost gone. I feel so sorry for him, but thankfully none of these things is life threatening, The constant descriptions of his ailments is wearing me down, and he thought I should never want or need to talk about cancer! Thankfully, I met all of you to talk to, but he has only me. He does go to work each day, otherwise I would never get anything done.
I'm still trying to catch up with all the posts, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's lunch bunch dinner. Does that even make sense?
Going out into the sunshine, talk to you later.

Whoops, Laura I want to say how sorry I am about your friend. I well remember the day I found out about my Mom's progression to stage IV, and it was devastating and surreal for awhile. My thought and prayers are for your friend.

WENDY...Take it easy of the starch please.
DONNA....Did you call my Oncologist.....Ha Ha just kidding. e wont let me start untill the 28th. Which really isnt too bad. Thye make you wait 30 days after surgery. He said if need be I can have the taxaere changed to every 3 weeks to handle it better. He said it really wont affect the outcome. He is still considering me having radiation due to missing 3 chemos. He said it would be extra insurance it wont return. So we will see.... I love you girls. Love from the Bud

Budders... See that is not bad.. glad he listened to me. Tommorrow it starts, have my first mouth sore on root of mouth? Depressing day as i am just not looking forward to feeling icky.Taxotere is a better protocol , that is what i am doin with Cytoxan. You just have triedness and feel icky. I have it every three weeks. At least they are looking at making it all work right for you!!!
Wendy... Rita has some ironing and i think Jackie is wondering if you are ready for this life changing task... BTW.. you can run but you cannot hide!!! Chop chop now.
As all can see, I am loosing it as i prepare for treatment tommorrow. I totally do not want to start it again and I am really seeing how you really have to push forward and keep goin. The decadron is what makes me even loonier if that is possible!!!
Be well all and will be checking in and sure all the laundry and iron is done by Wendy. Being a teacher, I do not tolerate lateness.. ok?@!
Crazy in Crete,
Donna

Buddy- If everything stays on track, I will be thinking of you on the 28th, as that is my first day of chemo. I will be doing TAC every three weeks.
Donna- Don't get too discouraged. I know that is easy for me to say as I haven't been there yet. But anybody that is a Laundry Goddess must be a tough lady.

Donna....I love your last post. We needed a little more humor on this thread. Do you have any Biatene mouthwash to use on your mouth sore? If not, it can be purchased at Wally World or K-Mart. Popsicles and other cold things will also help ward them off and get rid of them. Just think, by this time tomorrow you wll have another one under your belt and be that much closer to done!!!! Hang in there. I hear ya!
Jo....you have a chemo date! You're moving ahead now! We'll be here to help you through.
Smerf, it's so good to hear from you again. I sure didn't realize that your hubby had been having so many problems. He's lucky to have you...the perfect nurse! :-) Men can be such babies and whiners when they aren't feeling well. Even a good ol' cold brings out their boyish natures! LOL
Buddy, at least you have a time frame now. You continue to rest up so you're ready to surge forward again! Hugs to you. I think you're doing wonderful after all you've been through.
Donna, do you think that Wendy, our ironing fairy, is ignoring us?????? Certainly not!!!! LOL
Take care ladies. It is about time for this yogi to go to yoga class!

Donna....ahhhh, yes....the mouth sores. I nearly forgot those buggers. I did not have many, but I forgot how much I hated them. It is like a sore throat...you don't want to talk... as the sores hurt. Rita's biotene idea is the best and here go on what to do with the biotene!
Get some que-tips (sp?) and dip them in the biotene. Then do a direct hit on each mouth sore (You may want to stab the bugger, but be gentle and swaaaaab each one. Do this A LOT! Especially do this before and after eating. Use a straw whenever you can. I remember having a trick about the straw! You suck it up (no pun intended) with the straw very far into you mouth. Release and then swallow. I hated the mouth sores so much that I became paranoid they would take over. They never did if I followed this routine.
Funny, how I hated those sores and funnier still that I forgot about them until you brought them up. There is that light at the end of the tunnel.
Susan
PS: Biotene can be purchased at Target.

Hi girls. Thanks. I appreciate your concern.
Smerf - My Mom was a nurse for 28 years and she always HATED taking care of Drs as patients... she said the same thing... they make the WORST patients!
I don't have time to read all the posts right now, but I spent a little time today creating these two little fairies... being creative ALWAYS helps me forget my sadness. Well, I shouldn't say "forget"... rather that it helps me to deal with it.

Susan and Rita.. YES,, have the Biotene and it does work!!Love the swab idea and will do that tonight.!!You really had the routine down Susan... i will probably stab it with the straw and cry!
Laura.... The pics are GREAT!!!! Wendy.. will be sooooo encouraged by these as for me, I am just loving them!!GREAT work..wow~!!
Jo...Thanks for your kind words and you don;t need to know what it feels like when you know it is all a journey and we are all at different passages. We will be there for you too.YES.. AM very strong.. the amount of laundry i do here is ridiculous.. wish these ladeis would dress less or something, as i am just done with the polyester;s and golf outfits..etc. Sigh!
Have to be a Rush tomm a.m. by 7:30 !!! Goin to bed early.
Hugs and Sweet Dreams,
Donna
PS Wendy,....where are you... ?!!!!hehe..

Hi All, finished up I think....anyway I called Marcy and turned in my bill. Big day tomorrow....doing all my own things. Oh my gosh....I'll probably fall all over myself and not know what to do first.....of course....nice to not have to figure washing and ironing in there...thank you so much Wendy.
Laura - glad you are finding things to help you cope. Paulie should be a real joy right now too. Hopefully, it will be better soon.
Donna - though you won't see this I don't think....we will all be thinking of you and mentally holding your hand. You are so close to the end now. Dare I say it is sort of a double-edged sword. Harder on the one hand to HAVE to do, but a little more doable because the end is so close in your line of sight.
Buddy - you just keep hanging in there it seems, no matter what gets thrown at you. You are a marvel.
Smerf - always good to see you here. Hope your **patient** gets totally on his feet and off your hands and we will never admit we said that, ok.
A few more things to do before I hit the shower and get in my jammies. Wish I could do it now, but got to finish up here.
Hugs,
Jackie

Illinois Ladies - I finished weekly taxol # 9 and called it finished. The onc wanted to switch me to taxotere for 4 weeks, but I did not want to deal with a whole new set of Se's for only 4 weeks so we did one last taxol and I will start doing the herceptin alone every 3 weeks starting next week Since they had not originally planed chemo for me until the Her2+ came along my second opinion onc said the herceptin was the important part not the the chemo. It was giving me a much greater benefit. I see the radiation onc on June 10 and will probably start rads after vacation in July. Will be starting an Ai sometime. I see onc again in June after have 2nd echocardiogram and will decide on AI then. I wish I could have finished the 12 but was not willing to have permanent damage to feet and hands to do 3 more. Hopefully 9 was enough. it is the equivalent of 3 of 4 of the every 3 week doses, so on that schedule I would have only missed one. I feel lucky I am in a position to decided not to do something, when if it had not been hound so early I would have to be trying every thing I could to prevent it from spreading or coming back. But at the stage mine was found my chances of recurrence is only about 7% if I do the herceptin, rads and AI. Those odds sound pretty good to me. I am looking forward to more energy. Blood counts were better this week and with no more chemo coming after today, they should continue to climb. We will have to see what herceptin does to them. It looks like it is going to be a nice Saturday and Sunday, I am looking forward to some time outside. Wish you all a good week. Annette

Hi everyone!
Annette,
You have made the decision that is best for you. Don't even second-guess that decision now. The decision-making is so hard! Now it's time for you to find your "new normal" and inch back into life. Hugs to you! I'm hoping that you'll be able to make it the third Thursday night in June for the breast cancer dinner gathering here in town. I can't wait to meet you.

Morning! Hey....wait a minute! I miss ONE Day and I am the laundry fairy??? Yeah - dream on girls! I have enough trouble keeping up with one husband. Is it REALLY NECESSARY to change our clothes THREE times a day??? I haven't been online as DH wanted to use the "good" computer and asked me to put it upstairs in the office, which I did Sunday morning....still waiting for him to do this REALLY URGENT thing he had to to.....
Men!
Budders ....oh boy, another new nickname for you! I'm still likin' Lefty myself. Do you think radiation is really in your future? Some of us did really well, like me. Others of us, not so much. But we all seem to agree that the worst part of rads was having to go EVERY day, for weeks. But if it gives you another layer of protection esp. due to your delay, it might be something to consider.
Donna.....yep, mouth sores! Once again, I never got them however the DH of a friend of mine got them from chemo and biotene didn't much work for him, but Oasis did! It's in the same aisle as biotene. Well at least you are having number 3 and then only ONE MORE!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!
Blackjack .....you don't like riding in convertibles???? Girl, I need to come give you a ride in the Z! The heck with your hair! I've got lawn duty today so no fun rides for me!
Laura....those fairies are so cute! I have a project for you, which I will tell you about tonight! How would you like to design a piece of swimwear for me?????? I know what I am looking for, and I did have one about 8 yrs ago but I can't find the style anymore and it would work ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY as a mastectomy suit as well. Perfect!!!!
Jacks......you have been working much too hard! You need a vacay, say like to CA???? Yes???? HOw's the foot?
Mich101.....you I bet are crazy-busy with the end of high school and the soon starting of college x 2! Did you plan a little vacay for your family yet?
Well I see like a dummy I am posting on page 288, not 289 so I can't refer back...I will catch up with the rest of you this afternoon. But right now, unfortunately, the lawn is calling.
And no, I AM NOT THE FRICKIN' GRASS FAIRY!!!!!

Hi all!
I'm afraid this is a drive-by post. My schedule has been horrendous- just too much to do. (That's a good thing, when I remember what treatment was like just two years ago! Life is sweeter afterwards, even when you are crazy busy!)
I was hoping to make it to the dinner tonight, but now it's not looking so likely as I have a meeting to attend before. WAH!!! I'll still try, but I really doubt it.
Hugs and love to everyone!

Hi everyone,
MAMAQ....We'll miss you, and we never give up on anyone. Can't get rid of us.
Rita, we'll miss you too! have a great time on your trip. I'm a little wakeful at night also. No Arimidex for me, but I do think it's hormonal because it started at menopause. Guess I'm lucky thought, because I didn't get any hot flashes. I do see some middle of the night television though. I use generic benedryl if I want to get back to sleep. It is always something!
BJ....Your favorite store is having a sale today....can we get there before dinner?
Jackie, I married an old man too, so we have much in common. He was 71 last December, but so far hasn't retired. I did have a nice b-day party for him at 70, and it was lots of fun.
I want to thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes. Thank you, thank you! It was so nice of you all, and at a time when I was not very present here. I think it's official now; I am older than dirt, but I feel like 40. Okay, maybe 50, but it's all good. The funny thing is when I meet parents of my younger daughter's friends. Very often the parents could be my children. I have never had the best timing, oh well. Younger daughter recently turned 28, and says she is feeling old....boy, does she have a lot to learn!
Looking forward to tonight! See you later, smerf.

Jackie: I love Marcel Proust and so I loved the quote today. As a "good-bye" gift to my co-teacher, who introduced me to Proust, I am giving her a biography of Proust along with the quote you gave us today! Thanks!
Donna, I know you hate these chemo gigs and today was your infusion day. If you are like I was, tonight will be cool and even tomorrow will be okay. Get some headphones, some Popsicles and some BIOTENE ready for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can do it. Ask someone you love to take you for a walk on Sunday, even a very short one, so you can move the chemo poisons out!! I am thinking about you!
Susan

Susan - I'm so glad you liked the *quote* and are able to use it in such a delightful way. Don't think I'll ever be tired of the quotes I love so much. Almost every one that appears here gives me pause for thought in some way.
Not going to be on here too long. Another long day for me....but spent mainly here at home. I did some planting and we repaired the umbrella ( the cord slipped out of it's track ) so we can open and close it again. Thought about washing my car --- I'm such a fanatic about that, but was afraid I'd run out of steam too soon. Too many things I wanted to do. I did however, wash my car windows and that felt good.
Put off our little trip to Tuscola until the 1st.of June. I work on the 28th. and none of us caught that. It is going to make for a long day but I know I will enjoy it. I'm not a *big* shopper any time but now and then I like to just go somewhere and roam a mall to my hearts content.
Now I have some ironing, another load of laundry, a bath....and hmmm, well, I think I'm going to get some t.v. in before I get too sleepy if I can
See you all tomorrow.
Hugs,
Jackie

Hi Ladies!
I've been AWOL from the boards lately. Jim fell off a ladder and broke his heel. I am so thankful that's all he broke. But he is now on disability until the end of July. And on crutches, so I've been hopping lately too! Back to work is wonderful, but BEING DONE WITH TX IS EVEN MORE WONDERFUL!!! Yes.....it's true.....I finished rads today and got a diploma!! I am done with the nasty cancer tx's!!!! Yeah, Yeah.....Arimidex starts in a few days, but for now, I feel like a kid on the last day of school! YAHOO!!!!!!! And, my HAIR is 1/4" long. So now that I don't have to go to rads daily, I can spend my lunch hour at work chatting with you ladies!!! I can't wait to catch up with you all. I can see that I'll have some reading to do.
Take Care everyone, and I promise we'll catch up soon!
Hugs to all, and be healthy!!!! Love, Carol
