Illinois ladies facing bc

webu -- I'll be thinking of you, I am just slightly ahead of you, my first treatment was 12/30, and my next one is the this Thursday. I was where you are now only two weeks ago, and everyone on this board was so nice to reach out with their reassurances, which really helped! I was terrified, but it was much easier than I anticipated. I was fortunate for the first round and had very minimal SEs... no nausea at all (I took every med they prescribed to head it off before it started), and minimal body aches. I was a little more tired than usual, so I got plenty of sleep, and definitely have dry mouth, yecch. Hopefully you will get minimal SEs as well!

Webu - will be thinking about you on Friday. Hope chemo goes well.

webu.... so glad that your son is getting a chance to help you on Friday. Of my family, it was my 28-year old son who took my diagnosis the hardest. We are very close and he lives in Charlotte. He insisted on coming back home for my surgery and stayed for 3 days after. He was so supportive and fun to have around. I knew I had to stay strong for him and I too was glad that he wasn't here for the bad times. Something about mothers and sons, I guess. Be so glad that he is there for you.
Both Lisa and webu going through chemo this week and makmak in Seattle trial. We will all be thinking of you. I sure wish that I had found this site and all these wonderful ladies far sooner than I did. I didn't come across it until I was almost done with chemo. They will get through it.

Lisa & Makmak hope all went well. We are waiting for a check in

Donna I had a dream about you last night. I don't remember much but you were in AZ, it was warm and there was the most amazing sunset with pinks & purples. Hmmm do you think that antibiotic is really some kind of psychedelic drug?

got a couple more days before my next tx.... I'm a thursday, trying to take the brunt of the SEs on the weekend so I can keep working......
but thanks for the nice thoughts... i have a demanding day at work today, so I need them anyway!!!!
everyone stay safe in this snow. wouldn't you know it, my daughter's soccer season kicks off today in willow springs.... 15 miles from the house... we may just have to skip today's training session and risk the wrath of the coach. (she is 9 yo, need to keep soccer in perspective....)

Happy morning to all......I must confess that I have soup from a can. I am often challenged by cooking -- my forte is holding a trembling abused animal and sending it loving and caring thoughts, but I often do take homemade broth and add veggie's and anything roaming loose in the fridge....if un-certain, I take one of those cans of soup from the pantry and toss in, that at least allows me to say what kind of soup we are having.
Webu -- what a great caring young man you have. Do be proud along with Joan. I will be sending love and reassurance on Friday for you.
Lisa I'm sorry that the snow may be a problem for you and your daughter today. Big fat, lazy flakes are falling as I look out of my computer room window. I do feel for anyone that has problems due to the weather. This ( for me ) is one of those picture postcard or greeting cards snows that evoke all the outdoor enjoyments that came along with each and the resulting cups of hot chocolate while boots and gloves sat drying by the stove. I confess as well......living out in the country I've had a 4-wheel drive vehicle almost the whole time and find that I've ( here's hoping ) ever NOT been able to go where I wanted, when I wanted. Don't always relish it, but I'm not too timid about the driving for having never ( before we moved back home ) driven in ice and snow. No ice under this snow so all should be quite well.
Thinking of all in treatment. I'm having my volunteer day at House of Hope today.....went out on home visits yesterday.....2 dogs will be placed, but one will not. There is LOTS of parts of all of this....along with having in the end of February a fund raising dinner. I am glad for what I can do for the animals.....but it is more difficult than any job I've ever done.
I hope you all have a very wonderful but totally safe day.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning to all of the Illinois gals. Haven't posted in a few days. Had my pet scan last Tuesday and haven't heard anything yet (don't know if that's good or bad at this point). Have an onc appointment for Thursday, so I'll find out then. Hope nothing new is added to my treatment of Zometa and Faslodex... Everyone have a safe day our there in the snow!! Like we need any more stress, we get to drive in this crap!! Looks like another good soup day - last night we just finished off the potato-leek soup that I made on Sunday.

Oh, look, it's a Winter Wonderland again. *sigh*
Well, at least it is pretty.
I might change my tune in about an hour when I'm driving to work in it! Hopefully the plows will have cleared a lot by then.I'm a little concerned because in 2 days my DD and a couple of her college roomies are supposed to drive down to Florida for a getaway before classes start up. I know the southeast has been hit hard. My friends in Atlanta are basically shut-ins right now. I'm afraid it's going to be tough to convince her and her friends that they might have to delay. 20 year olds tend to know everything dontchaknow.

All the best to those of you starting and still in chemo. I remember the fears of starting chemo, but I was less and less afraid after each one. It became a matter of just putting one foot in front of the other and getting it done and behind me! Chemo is one of your battlegrounds, and you will be the victor.
Lago - Your chowder sounds awesome. I don't do creamy soups (we have a bad relationship, lol) but homemade soup sounds divine for a day like today. I think I'll have to stop on my way home and get some good veggies at Whole Foods (love that place) and make a big pot tonight. Thanks for the idea.
Jackie- I think what you do to help stray and abused animals qualifies you for angel on earth wings. Seriously. Thank you for all you do to help such innocent creatures.
Joan - I think that telling my DS about my cancer was the most difficult as well. He was just finishing his freshman year at U of I, and I waited until he finished finals and told him on our ride to bring him home. We're pretty close, and he was a huge support for me that summer. He still is. Right now he's stuck in NYC on a work trip - they just canceled his flight because of the weather there.
Marcia - Wishing you all the best for that PET scan report. Potato-leek soup sounds like a great idea!
ETA: Almost forgot! Wanted to share this link. I love these creative sites:

Hi gals! Well I made it into town this morning to bowl but I'm not sure I'm going to tackle these roads again today for yoga this evening. Yoga may be on hold for a week depending upon if and when the snow stops falling here.
Jackie, the two gals who work at the animal shelter in town are just like you. They were so excited when I decided to bring Echo home. They had even let her out of her pen to run before I got there on the last day so that I could see her in a different "energy" mode. They truly love these animals and work so hard to get them adopted out to good homes instead of being euthanized.
I must admit that I eat canned soup too at times. I do make chili and a vegetable soup but I'm not beyond opening up a can if I'm in the mood and I don't feel like throwing a soup together. I love to eat but I am not the world's greatest cook and really don't like cooking much. I'd much rather sit and research and write questions or volunteer where I can help people. I do admire those of you who have the culinary skills, though!
Hope all is going well for you today, Carolyn. Hugs!
Laura, did you make it out on your snow skis?
Marcia, sending you good vibes for good PET scan results. Let us know as soon as you have them!
Webu...I'll be thinking about you on Friday and hoping that things go well for you. In the meantime, try to relax a bit. I think you'll find that the chemo isn't going to be quite as bad as you've anticipated. Hugs.
Off to write some questions and do more laundry. How can two people go through so many clothes and towels in one week? It always continues to amaze me!
Travel safely!

Hi girls! First and foremost - for those going through treatments...my heart goes out to you. Be brave and fight like a girl.
It's going to take some time to read through all the previous posts. You girls are a chatty bunch! lol But THAT'S A GOOD THING! Hugs to all of you.
YES...we did get enough snow for skiing! It was great.

Time to call Carolyn and read back through all your posts. Be safe and be warm.
Rita - I hope you do decide to not venture out tonight. The roads can be dangerous.

Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone. I went and got my hair cut really short today. I said to the guy who cuts it "You have been wanting to give me a shorter hairstyle for years. Here's your chance; go to town on it" I kept my eyes closed the whole time. It doesn't look quite as bad as I thought, especially after he put "product" in it and spiked it a little. It feels really strange, though, kind of like my dog after she gets too short of a haircut at the groomer. I finally figured out how to download a photo for my avatar, but my hair is so dark it blends into the background.
Lisa - I'm glad to hear you are having very few SEs. I hope you can get out of taking your daughter to soccer today, because the roads are pretty bad.
Lago - I love Boston! DS goes to BU.

My dad used to teach at BU. Actually I am the first in my family not to get a degree from BU. I did take a few course there before I started undergrad though.

Webu....I think the hair style is CUTE!
As you can see, I opted out of yoga tonight. We built a fire in the fireplace and are just enjoying a night "in."
Laura, you look pretty good in that ski attire! You didn't fall down, did you? I imagine that you are MUCH more coordinated than me! :-)
I'm off to curl up in my comfy chair and read some more of Promise Me.

Laura - you look so cute! Glad you had fun.
Good luck Webu. The first one is very scary but it should be non-eventful.
Have a great night everyone!

Happy snowy morning. Fortunately it is very light here and won'taccumulate I don't think, but brrrr it sure is cold out. Hard to believe three weeks ago we had a 60 degree day. So strange. I think we could have some slick spots here and there, but all the major roads are clear.
Onward....you are getting that near the end anticipation. It is so great to begin the fight because women tend to be born fixers, but then we start to long for the victory we will find when we are done. It starts to wear a bit so glad you are almost there.
Hope you will all have a good safe day whatever you do. The snow is not a big deal to me, but the frigid temps. are giving me pauses to reflect on the joys of Spring. Snow or not it just seems like we have had so many really cold days. Someone else said it best ---yuck. Not liking that cold air much. See you all later.
Hugs,Jackie

I'm Back.. from a very long 2 days.. I made it out to Seattle on time.. BUT, lucky me.. Got to sit next to a coughing and sniffling 6 year old.. who also beat me up the whole trip.. am crossing my fingers not to get too sick.. as I have my scans and herceptin next week... Got my vaccine yesterday and made it to the airport in plenty of time.. my flight said "delayed'.. no ETD or anything.. luckily we left and made up some time, so got home by 10 pm.. Today.. I'm flu-like and totally out of it.. my vaccine is reddish but at least doensn't hurt.. Normal but ugh... Next trip in 4 weeks!! I'm 1/3 done!!!
My DH had to drive through Indiana today.. called and said it was a complete white out.. and called it FUN!! I on the other hand was just so happy to make it home safely last night.. Hate snow!!
Hope everyone is doing well and Lisa, good luck tomorrow!!

Yea Marina! You're back and 1/3 of the way done! Hope you feel better as the day progresses!
Onward, you're just moving right along with those treatments. Wow! Only 3 more after today. It sounds like you have your rad program in place and ready to go, too. Rads went quickly for me. It seemed like I just got started and they were over.
Good afternoon, Carolyn. I hope you're having a good day!
Today is Bunco day so I need to get my clothes changed and get ready to leave. You get 12 dynamic women together and everyone always seems to have a good time!

HELLO girls! Hope you are all making the most of this bright, white, sunny day.
Jackie - Your volunteer efforts are enviable and appreciated. How's Maggie doing?
Rita - NO...I didn't fall (thought for sure I would atleast once)! lol But I am still learning the skill of it. It is quite a workout. It looks easy, but man oh man...it's not! lol
webu - You're one step closer to the end of your journey...baby steps for sure, but give it all you've got!

What's going on with the other newbies here? Thinking about all of you.

I have to admit that I'm not the most religious person. But I saw this video and simply could NOT believe my eyes and ears (trust me girls - I would NOT share if it wasn't amazing). As a result...I am compelled to share it with you. Please view it with an open/neutral mind and simply enjoy the unbelievable talent this little girl possesses:

Just learned something and thought I'd share.. My vaccine site is red and started itching.. so I called the nurse to see if I can put some cortisone on it.. the answer is NO.. It's a steroid and impedes the effectiveness of the vaccine.. AND.. the itching and redness is a GOOD thing as it means my immune system is recognizing it!! Not sure if any of you ever get vaccines for anything.. I do and never knew this..

beautiful video, Laura. Thanks for sharing. I do so admire people with such great talents. I can't even draw a stick person.
