Hi Ladies, Just wanted to check in and make sure everyone is behaving themselves.

Laura..glad to see you are taking you calcium. You need them for your tiny bones!

Kater.. I hope all goes well..it takes 4-6 weeks to totally recover from any surgery. And yes your body does go through changes. I would ask them to repeat the CA125 test at a later date.

Rita ..I hope you have a great time in Florida. It is warm there now...so go soak up the sun and check out the cabana boys!!!! lol

Susan.. you can have both test done on the same day...when you call ask if you can schedule them back to back.

Wendy..hope you have a great weekend. Could you post a slot machine or LV pic for Connie and me....maybe it will bring good luck

    to us.

Gotta run.. I hope the snow stops soon...off the LV now. Have a great weekend everyone...stay warm I hear there is a cold front coming this weekend...

    Take care

Thank you Laura and Blackjack. I just hate all this and I am so grateful for any help I can get.  I think you are right, Laura, the machines have to be different.  When I did the silly breast MRI, I was flat down and my breast were in these cones!  Weird.  Would the spinal one be face up?  I am wondering about the wash cloth idea over my eyes, Laura.  I am starting to obsess now.

Like most of you, I spent decades in perfect health.  The only x-ray I ever had were on my teeth.  And now all this.

Calypso, oh I am going to be thinking about you with the surgery.  I think that a person who chooses a name like Calypso is just going to almost dance through this.

Rita, I m not going to be able to do that peoria walk on mother's day as my grandaughter is getting baptized that weekend and we will do the local one down by the lake.  This is the Susan Komen and anyone else who cannot do Peoria and wants to walk with me.......I am walking with  dh, two daughters, son-in-law and my grandbaby who will go under the waters that weekend.  Life is good.

    Hi ladies,

Ginny, I'm so happy for you that you got a good report. What a relief not to have more chemo.

Blackjack and Connie, have a great time in Las Vegas!

Re: Vitamin D and D3. What does the 3 mean?

Laura, that's great that your osteoporosis has improved. They say weight training really helps. I take 600 mg of calcium three times a day and Actonel once a week.

Susan, good luck with your two MRI's. I've never had a breast MRI. In fact, I'd never heard of them until Rita described hers. I have my mammogram coming up in March.

It's now 15 degrees here in central Illinois. It's supposed to get much colder overnight. Keep warm tomorrow everyone! Well, I'd better get to bed so I can keep up with my twin grandsons tomorrow.

Morning!  Sorry Blackjack and Connie...couldn't find a LV graphics fast enuf for your trip.  I hope you have a great time!

Susan.....I had the breast MRI which was about 40 min. for me and I am not claustrophobic so no big deal.  The MRI for my L-S spine was on my back and they covered me in warm blankets and was about 30 minutes or so....my head was out and so were my feet.  Again, no big deal for me.  I agree...try and get them scheduled the same day...even if an hour apart.  There's no prep so you could go get coffee or a scotch or something in-between!

Hmmmmm....MaryJane...you take 1/3 more calcium than I do.  But you take Actonel as well.  Do you have bone loss?  I don't know the dif. between D and D3 either as I forgot!  But if you do a search thru the hormone or alternative therapy thread, this will probably pop up.

Calypso....thinking of you today!  Post when you can and let us know how you did...this one's for you!

     Hugs!

Rita...forgot exactly when you leave for Florida....but HAVE FUN!  And pick up some shells for me!  The only thing I guess I will find this weekend outside are frozen blue people.  Hopefully I will not be one of them.  If I don't post this weekend, will  someone call DH and ask him to chip me out of the SUV?

Mich101....I actually thought that was a pic of a hairy MAN with a wig exercising, but if it is a woman....eeeeeew!  (I don't know how to spell that either!)

Ginny, Julie, Kats, Kater, JanClare, Laura (TAKE YOUR CALCIUM), Jackie (where are you?  you OK?), tdbear...anybody else I missed...dress warm and stay safe!  Hugs and smiles and don't forget to woohoo today!

Hello everyone on this chilly, blustery morning.  That sun is really deceiving today!  Brr.......  I still have one more week before I fly out to sunny Florida.  We leave this coming Friday afternoon.  I still have lots of things to get done before we leave.  I tend to procrastinate when it comes to errands.  So....everyone stay warm the next few days.

Mary Jane...how is the remodelling coming along?  Our wall paper and tile are in but we can't really start until the tub gets here and that's supposed to be here in a few weeks.  I dread the "mess" as we will have to use the downstairs bathroom while this project is being completed, but perhaps the inconvenience will be an incentive to Dave to get it done faster.  Anyone who's had experiences with contractors will understand what I mean!  LOL

Oh Susan....How well I understand the overwhelming nature of the scans and MRI's!  Like Laura, I take Xanax, too, before I go.  However, it really mellows me out and I couldn't drive home....or at least not very safely.  I start worrying a good month before they are scheduled and I don't calm down for a week after I have them.  I'm a terrible patient.  With my breast MRI, I had one done in the morning and the other done in the afternoon.  Has anyone else had it done that way?  They left the connecting port of the IV in my arm and we went to the Mall in-between to kill some time.  I was a "ball of joy" that day.  Needless to say, I didn't buy anything but I did manage to eat.  Whenever I'm stressed, I eat everything in sight.  So anyway, dear Susan, I really understand where you're at on this one.

tdbear...So glad you found us!  Let us know when you make the trip back and we'll see about getting together.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU VEGAS GIRLS!  WIN BIG AND THEN TELL US YOUR SECRET METHOD!!!!

Calypso...thinking of you today and remembering my lumpectomy.  Hoping all goes well.  Take care of yourself when you get home and just be a "lady of leisure" for awhile.  You'll heal much faster.  HUGS!!

As for the Vitamin D-3, I'd don't know all the differences, either.  I do know that D-3 is the type of Vitamin D that the body naturally makes for us in the skin with the help of the sun.   I also know that when it comes to my feet, the Vitamin D-3 DOES make a difference.  I'm a believer!  That's what I think and I'm stickin' to it!  LOL

Wendy...Thanks for providing the morning smiles with your daily graphics.  I love them........even the exercise man/woman.  Take another look at the clothing on that character and I think you'll see why Michele thinks it's a woman!  We might just need to get you out of your house more often, dear!  LOL

This is the first weekend in a long time that we don't have anything planned.  We are thinking about heading to Joliet to Harrah's on Saturday afternoon for a little frolic!  You see, we have coupons for a free buffet!  Dave is BIG on anything that is free!  LOL  We just don't consider the money we spend while we're there and the gas money.  It's too depressing.  Anyway, if it gets as cold as they are predicting, we might change our plans.

Hello to all you other gals.  Where IS Jackie?  Is Pat(Smerf) gone on her trip now?  We haven't heard from her in awhile.  Where's our adopted Missouri gal?

Hope everyone is having a good day! I really need to get to work!

Morning!  Ohmygosh.....-8 on my deck.  And the wind chill makes it.....thirty below?  I need a beach!

I see everyone was doing something fun yesterday...no posts...and that is a good thing!  Michele....so you are off to LV too?  I've never been but anything sounds good to me this AM.

Rita....sounds like your house will be torn up for a while, but think how beautiful it will be!  Maybe Dave could finish up the whole thing while you are in Florida.  Wouldn't that be nice!

Calypso....how did you fare yesterday?  Take it easy for the next few days.  Doctors orders!

OK...Jackie????? Are you OK?  It's been days since you have posted.  We miss you!

Picked up my grandniece from school yesterday.  This was the first time she has seen me without a wig (which of course she didn't know was a wig).  She pronounced my new "haircut" very pretty...said I looked just like curious george.  Took me 10 minutes before I realized that curious george is a monkey.  Great.  Then we curled up in front of the TV and I got to watch, for the first time, Hannah Montana.  4 of them in a row.  2 hours of Hannah Montana.  I would rather have a root canal without novocaine than watch that show again.  If you guys ever come across it (it's on the Disney Channel), check it out.  It is sooooo stupid.  Or maybe I am just too old.

Nope...on second thought...it is that stupid.

Well....off for my 2nd cuppa.  I can see the newspaper out there...and there it can stay.  Too cold!  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........

I'll check back later for you Jackie......

Laura....TAKE YOUR CALCIUM!  And that goes for everybody else too!

    Good morning, everyone!

It's only 1 below here. My husband wisely decided against deer hunting this afternoon. Have to give that man credit!

Had a ball babysitting twin grandsons yesterday. However, it does wear this grandma out. Had to recuperate with a glass of wine last night after supper (maybe it was two....)

Michele, so glad you were inspired to set up your trip to Vegas! A lot of us seem to have a great sister to do these fun things with. Mine happens to be in Atlanta with friends this weekend. She was/is my greatest support/friend on the bc journey and any other journey I've taken, for that matter! So, Michele, have a great time next weekend.

Wendy, my bone scan showed worsened bone loss after the rads 13 years ago. I was originally on 3 prescriptions (Evista- the one like Tamoxifen, Actonel and another one whose name just left as soon as I started to write it - it was a nose spray) plus the 1800 mg calcium. The succeeding bone scans showed a big improvement (over a couple of years) so now I just take the Actonel and calcium. In fact I went from osteoporosis to osteopenia (sp?) which is better. (Why am I explaining the difference to you?  You are an RN. Sorry.) I'm due for another bone density this summer to see if it is still improving. The worst part was in my hip and lower back.  Just thought of the nose spray, Fortical. And I'm not in the shower. (Guess that is obvious, huh?) That's where these little brain glitches usually resolve themselves! Ha!

Well, I'm off to babysit the twins again so daughter #3 can help grout the tile in the house they are trying to move into. Then I'm going to my niece's basketball game with daughter #1 in Havana, then back to pick up my husband to go to a granddaughter's birthday party at Pizza Hut. My husband and I sometimes wonder what we did for fun before the grandkids came along!

Everyone, have a great day and stay warm!

Good morning gang!  It's COLD out there!  We KNOW it's COLD when Wendy doesn't gather in the newspaper!

Michele.........hey hey hey!  Vegas in January.  Win BIG!  And I love Harrah's.  I guess we are heading up your way this afternoon to Harrah's.  We will start there and if the slots aren't winning, we'll head on to the Empress on our way home.  I'm SO glad you booked a trip.  You and your sis will have a ball!  I have a free 5 days and 4 nights at the LV Hilton until March 31st for two people.  I'm thinking about cashing in on that.  The only bad thing about the Hilton is that it's off the strip a couple of blocks but it's especially nice and free is free.  First things first, though.  I still have to get clothes ready for FL and it takes me forever to get ready for a trip.  We fly out of Bloomington on Friday.  Can't wait!!!!

Wendy, it would be nice if the entire bathroom was finished when I got back but I don't think that the tub, stool, and sinks will be until the second week in February and we can't do much until they arrive.  I wanted a special color so we had to order them.

Glad you're having fun with those twins, MJ.  It so neat being a grandma!

Come on, Jackie and check in.  It's not like you to be "gone" for so long.  Hope you're O.K. and just preoccupied with fun things.

Calypso...hope all went well yesterday.  After my lumpectomy, I slept for nearly 4 days in the recliner as it was more comfortable than the bed.  Thinking about you and hoping you'll be able to post soon and tell us how you're doing.

Still no news from Smerf (Pat) so I hope she is on vacation.  Several of you others are also missing and we're looking for you.  Of course our Vegas gals are winning like crazy about now and enjoying the sunshine and constant night life.  LOL

Well, I need to get to the bank before we take off so I'd better get moving.  I've been SO lazy this morning and am still sitting here in my robe.  Also, I need to sort through a few more clothes and make a few decisions about what I am going to take at the end of the week.

    Everyone stay warm.

Michele - That's great! You sooooooooooooooo deserve this! Don't forget...me and my Rocktober Chemo Girls will all be in Vegas May 15-18...if you want to head back there...

maryjane - How fun! It's great you and dh are enjoying them so much. Twins..that is so cool! Michele has twins too!

Rita! OMG - You're going to Vegas and FL! Lucky duck! What is the "special" color you ordered for your bathroom?

    Jackie...where are you?

Wendy - Thanks for the reminder!

    ----------------------------

Last weekend I was a lazy butt and never started painting my sitting room and dining room. So...since it's sooo cold out...that's what I'll be doing all weekend. And...Shelby may stay the weekend and Monday since she's off for MLKing day. As for Sydney...I just found out she smokes! I am so disappointed! I'm afraid that if I see my sister in person, I just might punch her. Well no.... not literally, but I am so disappointed in her too! Syd supposedly, is doing well with a private tutor and the plan is to gradually acclimate her back into "the school system". I still remind her that I'm here if she ever needs someone to talk to. And regardless, she's always welcome here if she needs to get away and veg. That's all I can do...   Have a great weekend girls!

AND - just a reminder...May 15-18 me and my Rocktober Girls are meeting in Vegas...if any of you want to join us...that would be great. I told them that I invited you and they said WELCOME!

    EmbarassedHi everyone,

As you noticed I have been absent a couple days.  First day my Internet provider was down....hmmmm, wish I could switch to Hughes Net and may one of these days.

Second....#3 caught up with me.  It's not a great day, but I'm trying to carry on.  I am a bit embarrassed  about complaining after I read Julie's post.....I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through all that.......it's a great feeling when you find yourself on the upside though.  I'm still having a little constipation with yucky mouth taste.  So far, that's about it.  Not eating too well but since I have a few ( a few---who are we kiddin' here ) extra I'm not alarmed.  Most people seem surprised when I say how much I weigh, but I'm 5"8' with long thin bones.  Ok, ok....I weigh 203# right now.  I'll lose 50 and look better....I hope.

Anyhow..........how great to see you all in a picture.  I saw some other pics some time back but couldn't really relate then.  You are all fantastic looking and sure looks to me you haven't  let this struggle you have been in steal a thing from you.  Way to go....

Wish I didn't live so far away from ya'll but we'll make do.

I'm going on the 24th. to check out a support group here in Centralia at our local hospital.  Hope it proves out to be worthwhile.  I would imagine there are lots of 'locals' that I'm completely unaware of at this point.

Well, I have lots to TRY and do today.  I finally got some food and meds inside where they belong so hope despite the frigid temps I can get out and do the feral cats.

Little Baby Boss is getting on fairly well.  He keeps coming to "check" on me here in my computer room.  He is a true lap dog but will learn in time I hope that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Rita........lucky you..Florida...and leaving while we are having our ZERO weather.  What could be nicer ???

I'l be checking in....way too many posts to catch up on this time.

Julie, hope the rest of your txs are much better for you.

    Good Morning:

I just realized that coordinating the two mri's is not that complicated at all.  Do any of you find that things just seems more complicated after breast cancer?  I do not think it is cognitive;  I just think that it is easier to get a feeling of powerliessness after all this.  I want to work on that as feeling powerless stinks.

Wendy, I love Curious George and I think he is adorable.

My two girls are giving me a day at the spa on the 60th birthday which includes a hair styling.  I think it is their way of telling me it is time to lop off these chemo curls.  My hair has gotten so long and we are talking curls.  I hated to cut my hair as losing it was ONE of the hardest parts....but I do think it is time.  Mature women really should reconsider banana curls.

Rita, enjoy Florida. Paul and I need to plan a trip.  Mary Jane, I too love best being with family!  For me, being able to watch my grand daughter grow up is such a privilege.  I have consciously changed so many daily habits so that she has a greener world.  It has gotten complicated in my school in now we have bins  for paper, plastic and real garbage!  Now I am buying earth friendly cleaning supplies which sounds noble but in fact I treat myself with a cleaning woman who will probably yell at me for switching.

All you ladies who need to check in, please do.  You are missed and remain in our  minds.  Of to that bridal shower!  I just hope it is not one where there are 100 gifts and we need to ooohhhh and ahhhhhhh for each.

Good evening Illinois ladies!! Can't believe this freezing weather we're having -- if it's going to be this cold, I wish we'd at least get some SNOW! How about all of you in the northern part of the state share with the rest of us? Laughing

I'm SO jealous of those of you taking trips. ENJOY and safe travels!

I've had a busy couple of days. My friends from work came last night and helped me take down all of my Christmas decorations. I'm a HUGE Christmas nut when it comes to decorating and I haven't had any energy to put everything away once I recuperated from my chemo/flu issue. I have truly been overwhelmed with how generous people can be and have really realized what wonderful friends I have since I've started this bc journey.

My 12-year old tested for his next belt in Tae Kwon Do today and we were out and about from about 10:15 until after 3:00 -- I'm exhausted! I also had some family stop by tonight for about an hour and a half. We live out in the middle of nowhere, so we don't often get visitors - it was very nice.

Well - I'm going to need lots of good vibes this week. First, I'm actually going to work for the first time since Dec. 7 (I teach high school business). My sub is going to stay with my classes while I'm there because I'll only be there Tuesday and Wednesday. I also oversee three divisions, so I'll be spending the rest of my days checking in with all of my teachers and catching up on what's been going on. I'm excited to get back to see everyone.

I'll also be having round #2 of my chemo on Thursday. I'm hoping and praying that this one goes better than my first one did. With trying to get back to work, I really worry about being able to work through the side effects. I'm quickly running out of sick days and can't really afford to take unpaid time -- unfortunately, we don't have a sick bank like many schools do.

Well -- sorry to be all about "me" tonight -- I'm getting a little worried about my second chemo and trying to get back into the routine of working, grading, etc....

    Keep warm!!!!

    Julie

OK...enough with this weather.  -10.8?  That is just wrong.

First off....Julie....we don't care if you write a whole page of posts, just about you.  This is the place where "being all about me" is so okay.  Vent, scream, cry...whatever.  We'll be here.  And then you will be laughing along with us.  That day will come.  Take it easy when you go back to work...chemo is work and you need rest, along with trying to get back to what passes for "normal" during this time.  Give yourself a break.  And I am so glad that you have all that support and help.  It's such a good thing, as Martha would say.  Here's hoping for a more "doable" chemo round!

Jackie...sorry you have not been up to par, but glad you checked in.  If you read thru the old posts, we were worried about you.  And you are a brave soul...you posted your weight????  Wow.  Not wow about your weight, wow that any woman would do that!  You are one strong lady and I am sure you are kicking some cancer butt!  You go girl!!!!!

Susan....yes, curious george is adorable.  But still a monkey.  If you go to onstyle.com/hair and upload a pic of yourself with your hair all slicked back, you can see what you would look like in all these styles/hair colors.  It was fun!  Yesterday I had nothing better to do with this weather so I put a bunch of products on my hair and tried parting it different ways.  Well, I woke up this morning with a freakin' mohawk!  Standing straight up in the air on top.  DH keeps looking at me and actually laughing, while telling me I still look pretty. Jackie...if I was strong like you I would take a pic of this newest style and use it as my avatar.  Talk about giving you ladies a good giggle every morning.....

MaryJane....glad you exlained re: your bone density.  And don't worry about explaining things to me that I should know...this chemobrain still rears it's ugly head.....spent 10 minutes the other day, trying to think of the word "profession".  You sound like you are having a ball with your grandkids, running all around.  Fun!

Laura...how did the painting go?  That was sure a great color...how many coats did it take?  And...take your calcium!

Calypso...you okay?  Haven't heard from you since your surg. on Friday.

    tdbear, Ginny...you guys OK?

Rita...will I fit in your suitcase?  I squooosh well, I think.

    Kats....how's DH?

    Kater....how's your Mom?

Everybody else....stay warm.  This writer's strike is for the birds...and I am not a sports person so I don't care about football.  I hope there is a good old movie on TV today.  Have a great day!

    Hi:

I feel so safe on this thread as I think we are ultra careful what we say to each other that could be misunderstood regarding our BC. I recently had a bad experience on another thread and I want to warn you about it.

I was reading a post and the woman stated that her cancer type, which is also mine (we both had pagets along with invasive cancer ) had a much higher recurrence rate and a poorer prognosis than other cancers.  I am not sure she meant to state it that way, but that is how it read  She said this was based on "newer" research.  Of course I am now thinking that something just came out in the news and I missed it. I called my husband, just freaking out, and he said to ask the poster for her sources, which I did twice, so I could bring the information to my two doctors.  I never received a response to that post.  I did ask my oncologist, and he said he knows of no recent research to support that idea and that either the poster  was wrong or I simply misunderstood her message.  He also said to stay off the internet or be prepared to lose my sanity Yell!

As mentioned, I am sure this woman certainly did not intend to terrorize anyone, yet I think we all can be reminded that we all need to be very careful what we put in print and that we all should be careful what we read ANYWHERE.

I do appreciate this thread so much and I felt I needed to share this with the women who  have given me such positive support while on this journey.

    SmileGood Sunshiny Morn to all:

Sun looks so fantastic, but it's sooooooo cold out there.  Getting up to 24 today though....woo-hooooooo.  Nearly a heat wave after the past two days.

I second everything Wendy said to you Julie.  It is a shame that the flu bug caught you when it did.........and hopefully, the second chemo might just seem tame after all you went through.  No walk in the park---I'm not saying that, but something you can get through and have an idea this time  ( without flu ) what you can expect and what to 'treat' for.  You will have lots of good thoughts and prayers going with you.

And Wendy-----I am pleased to hear ya'll got nervous when I didn't show up.  I'll try not to do that again.

And this is good Julie ( forgot this part ) that we can whine a little here and let our hair down.  I think the female part of us just naturally tries so hard to SPARE our dh's, kids, grandkids, etc. and we can come here and be honest about how difficult this can be and that the challenges are massive sometimes.

And I'll tell ya something else Wendy.......not only am I a chubby 62 yr. old, I got a patch of spider veins on my Lt. leg  ( interior ) right above the knee and still wear shorts.  I couldn't care less.  I do have a trampoline ( house size ) and they say if you learn to jump on a regular basis that will go away.  I hope they are Right.

Anyway, I loved your hair descriptions.  I bet mine won't be any better.........that sorta scares me, but I've got quite awhile yet.  Did I mention that after my last round ( coming next to your local theater ) of A/C I will start Taxotere.  I'll have 4 of those spaced 3 weeks apart just like the A/C.........just more fun to have.  I will probably be laying in a stock pile of Depends for that.  What a hoot....the one thing I am very sensitive about.  You might know.

Anyhow.............do stay warm and Julie....do think about giving your vital stats to Laura GTO.  It's just another way to stay in touch.

Anyway....stay warm, and don't work too hard.  I'm out again sometime today to do the feral cats.  I am a glutton for punishment sometimes, but Maggie sure shouldn't be out in this....she is 83 with breathing problems.  I'll get by.

Me again......Susan, you are right.  I try hard not to be too influenced by what I hear since everybody is different, but there are times when you can't help it much.  I guess my thought is that I have the best chance in the world and I won't let anyone take that away period.

Having said that..........I will have doubts creep in, have had them already, and there are probably more, but I have to trust my Dr.'s and those who I absolutely know would not steer me wrong and most of all myself.  It is difficult not to worry....there again, I think in some ways that is what females often do best.  It's easy to get lost about something when someone comes across as the voice of authority.......maybe the poor gal that said that was feeling a bit hopless at the time or powerless and lost track of the message she was really sending.  I hope that is the case.  I'd sure hate to think I caused someone to feel doomed when there was absolutely no reason.  It's a long way to say it, but I do want to validate what you have said.  Let's just try so hard to stay positive and love ourselves so much that nothing like cancer could ever survive inside of us.  We are super strong survivors and won't let anything stand in our way.

Hey guys.....I have found that the internet is great, and is also the scariest place on earth.  I can no longer go on the Her2support.com website as just about everyone (well, OK...not everyone) has bad news and all I did was cry my eyes out.  Internet=Full Moon.  I check out other threads on this website and chime in where I can help...but for the most part, I stick right here.  Keeps me focused and real, and safe.  Maybe I am hiding my head in the sand, but too bad.

Jackie...you sound like so much fun.  I would dearly love to meet you in person someday.  I did Taxotere along with my carboplatin and Herceptin.  I had the metally taste in my mouth but that was that.  I have also read that quite a few girls had their hair start to grow back while on Tax, so get your gel ready!

Well...had my lunch out, and now DH closeted upstairs in front of the TV, doing the football thing.  Couple of old Cary Grant movies on TV this afternoon, so I am happy.

    Have fun today, girls!

    Hello again !!!!!

Hey Wendy.......one of these days I just might have to have DH chauffeur me up to So. Elgin so we can meet.  I'd never drive that far---alone anyway.  Wonder if you have to use those toll booths getting up there.  I'll have to Mapquest a little.  Those were wild when we went to Vernon Hills to pick up our dogs--well dog, but she gave me the white one because he lost his hair too soon and would not be a puppy by the time it grew back.  I know---what kind of Chemo was he on, and why were you in a puppy mill.  Tell you later.

Anyway, as they say in these parts.....you'd be my  horse if you never won a race.  You know just what to say to cheer a person up as I sit here drinking a McDonald's chocolate shake.  The next best cheerful thing besides you.  And I know....if I complain one more time about weighing too much I gots it coming and should hang my head in shame.  Well, this is the treat we get when food doesn't taste good or we got to get the bad flavors in our mouth covered up with something.  I was always told weight is simply mind over matter.  If I don't mind, it don't matter.  No one around here minds much.......as long as I share.

Anyhoo.......talk to you later.  Enjoy those movies.  I'm watching HGTV.  It's the old stand-by for nothing of any human value can be found anywhere else.

    Hi gals!

Brrr........it really didn't warm up too much here as the day progressed!  We had a fun day in spite of it all.  After church we headed for Wally World and stocked up on all those vital necessities that we continuously need and always hate to buy.  Then we went to the movies and saw Bucket List.  I loved the humor throughout the film but if you haven't seen it and are planning on doing so.......beware!  It has the inevitable sad ending.  We then found that new Maid-Rite and pigged out on sandwiches and fries........all on my diet, of course!  What a treat!

Julie, What great firends you have to help pitch in and get those decorations down!  I think one of the greatest things that I've learned from this journey is that there are three things that are really important in this life:  your health, your family, and your friends.  Everything else just blends into the background.   Anyway, I'm sending you those good vibes this week.  As a former of teacher of 33 years, I understand how eager you are to get back to your classroom, but please don't overdo.  Your body is being hit pretty hard right now and you're going to be really tired at times.  I hope your chemo goes much more smoothly this time, too.  HUGS!  I"ll be thinking about you.

Laura, the color that I chose for the tub, sinks, and toilet is Kohler's Cashmere.  It's really hard to describe.  It's a cross between khaki and steel gray.  It blended in so well with the floor tiles that I liked that I just had to get it.  Also want you to know that I picked up a crochet hook and some yarn when we were out today and Dave has made me a 7 x 9 inch rectangle from heavy cardboard so I'm going to give the afghan square a try.  Those finished products are really pretty impressive!

Wendy, I'm going to check out that hairstyle site.  I will have to wait until I get back to actually try it as I'll have to have somebody take the right kind of picture of me.  We actually did the computer version of this several years ago in the center of one of the Chicago malls.  I can't remember which one it was now but it was so much fun.  You only got 6 different styles, which could be shown in different colors.  I made the mistake of choosing short cuts (as my hair has always been long) and at least it added humor to everybody's day.  I looked like a giraffe with my long neck and this little tuft of hair on the top.  Still, I'd like to find a different style as I've had this one too long.

Oh Jackie...I'm sure I have you beat in the ugly veins category.  Mine are much worse than spider veins in my legs.  I guess all those years of teaching on a cement floor with thin linoleum covering took its toll on me.  I still wear shorts, though and I've thought about having them done but I'm such a wimp!  And as for the food, Jackie, just eat whatever tastes good to you now.  You can worry about weight later and it will come off when you get your energy back and are more active.  :-)

Well, gals, I need to find my cat and my recliner.  Hello to all of you that I didn't personally mention this evening.  I hope you all had a good weekend.  Ah yes!  We did head to Joliet yesterday.  Dave was lucky and I just contributed but it was fun!  LOL

Catch you all tomorrow!  Stay bundled up and warm!

Julie - Hang in there...good luck on Thursday. Hopefully you'll just breeze this one!...fingers crossed. It's awesome you have such great support...you must be deserving!

Wendrew - I finally started painting. But my little one, Shelby, has been here all weekend, so I didn't get very far. I decided to paint the two rooms a light chocolate brown and use that beautiful barn red color for some accent walls. I think it will look great AND I will have less walls to do a primer coat on. TAKE NOTE: whenever you use paint with red in it, you have to paint one, sometimes two coats of primer, even if you're painting over light colored paint. Over all I think it will look good...I'm doing all the rooms in sherwin williams folk art color series. They have some great combos of colors...whatever the look or era.

Jackie - FERRAL CATS...my mom feeds them too, in a couple different locations in her neighborhood! In fact, she's an official Court Animal Advocate. She goes to the trials of animal abusers (totally volunteer), and is a "voice" for the animal. She knows many of the judges, and prosecutors and policemen. Sometimes the judges ask her for a recomendation of punishment for some of the offenders. If you think of it...the poor animals have no one to fight for them, other than the advocates. Cheers to that shake...you so deserve it!

Rita - Yay...we're crocheting buddies now too! lol Shelby's here and I've spent HOURS teaching her how to CROCHET! omg - I'm exhausted...but she is so happy she's learning it. And she wants to make rectangles for the afghans too! I let her pick out her own skein of yarn. She is amazing...it's hard enough for us big folk to maneuver that hook...but she's so determined to pitch in. I hope you'll post a pic of the finished b-room...it sounds like you've done a great job. Are you wall-papering or painting the walls?

Susan - Thanks for posting that situation...good advice.

    -------------------

Cripe...I am sooooooooooooooo tired...more monyana! (sp?)

Morning!  Well, well, well...it is a whole 8 degrees out here!  Get out the shorts and halter tops!

Laura....your colors sound so pretty.  Like I said, except for my kitchen, powder room and master bath, I am still builder's white and it's been almost 8 years.  I'm going to take JanClare's advice at least and paint an accent wall in my fam room...one of these days!!!!  Your niece is such a sweetie to do the squares-and she's doing it for her Auntie Laura. Tell her "thanks" for all of us, okay?  Your Mom is quite the animal activist!  Good for her!

Jackie...you go ahead and slurp that shake.  I ate plain chicken and brocoli when we went out for lunch.  Nope...I am not that good.  I am having labs on Tuesday, see the onc on Wed and get my LAST Herceptin!!!  I want everything to be as good as it can be so I can get this dang port out.  Then I can go back to chips and salami sandwiches!

Julie...good luck this week.  Please pace yourself!

Rita...I second Laura...your bathroom is going to look phenomenal.  Pic, Please!  And if you google MaidRite, you can get a recipe and then you could always tweak it a bit to make it more healthly.  But then...what fun would that be!  I say...everything in moderation.

Anybody (Jackie?) catch that program last night on HGTV, "Beautiful Waterfront Homes"? Where do these people get this kind of money that they have 5-6 million dollar weekend homes? (And how do we get them to be our friends????)

I am at the point where I SHOULD get my hair shaped but I am a hair weenie and still want to go no where near a pair of scissors.  I was so frustrated yesterday, trying to figure out which side to part the mop on that I just flat-ironed the whole thing, slapped some gel on it and then just kinda smooched it over to the opposite side as how I usually part it.  And I liked it!  Actually looked, dare I say it, cute!  Now...and you know this part of the equation girls...can I make it look like this again?  Stay tuned as Curious George (the Elf, the Pixie, the not-blue smerf - all nicknames I have been called the last 6 weeks) tries to do something with the hair.  I know....Jackie, Julie...you are in the bad stage.  But see what you have to look forward to?  BAD HAIR DAYS!!!!!  And that is so normal and so okay.

Well....off to get a quickie hot shower for my little aches and then to exercise to get rid of the big ones.  DH is off today...maybe do a little furniture-shopping.  I know just how much Tom loves that!!!

Everybody....have a great day and stay warm.  Laura...take your calcium.

Good morning gals on this cold, cold morning.  Brrrrrr.......I'm such a wimp!

Laura, I sat down last night and tried to review the crocheting techniques for single crochet. I did about 10 rows but my sides didn't look real even so I must not be turning it correctly.  Guess I need to actually look at some better instructions for that part.  The rest came back rapidly.  I did chain one and then turn it but maybe I'm going into the wrong stitch when I start that next row back at the end of each line. (or not the right stitch consistently)  Oh well, I will figure it out and blocking at the end always helps, I guess.  I used to do this all the time but it's been eons ago!

O.K. Wendy...hubby has the day off and you're still up at the crack of dawn!  LOL  Don't you know that it's O.K. to sleep in on days like this?  All kidding aside, I still get up early, too.  I think all those years of racing through the morning routine to get to work on time conditioned me.  Sleeping in for me is 6:30 or 7:00 at the very latest and then I feel rotten all day long.

Well, I have another lovely dentist appointment today and still need to work on the Florida wardrobe so I'd better get moving.  Everyone have a good day.  Stay warm and travel safely if that snow arrives this afternoon.

    Catch you later.

    Good Morning girls...

Rita - Did you cut yourself a piece of cardboard 7"w x 9" high? That will help ensure your rectangles are precisely sized. Depending on how loose or tight you crochet, usually, about 27 chains is what the first row would be (give or take a few). When you start the second row, go in two chains. And for all rows after that turn and go in 1 chain. That might help...It's so nice of you to participate. Hey, you can crochet on the plane rides!

    Wendy -

Your hair is really cute...I should have told you that the other day. Spikey would look cute...gel is a good thing! The spray on "shine" stuff really makes it look good too! I think your color is perfect for you. Furniture shopping...fun!

    CoolGood Morning Everyone,

Well, the sun is out bright, but it is very coldhere.  Ok, so I'll tough it out, but I'm not going to enjoy it a bit.

Wendy, my cousin ( they are from the Ballwin/St. Louis, Mo. area ) still wears her hair very short and spiked.  That is how she did it several years ago when her hair first came back after tx and she liked it so well she just has kept it that way.

Though it will be some time, I sooooooooo liked my last perm and how I was able to manage my hair for the first time in years and years.  I don't see that happening ( a perm ) for a long time though.

I hope you all will put up pics of your completed rooms.  I need some ideas myself.  We moved here 5 years ago and made some standard changes....just to move in.  Would be nice to really make it special now.  Hmmmmmmm.

Laura.....blessing your mom's heart in a BIG,BIG WAY.  She is so right as there are homeless shelters, food donations and give away, medical programs for indigents.....all sorts of help can be found for people, but animals are neglected, abused, un-neutered or un-spayed, and thrown out of cars ( like our little Lilly Ann ) who forever has a hip and leg that won't bend properly.  Cept' for you gals and some other special---yes YOU ARE ALL SPECIAL to me people in my life, animals are the ones I mainly look up to and respect.  People so often have let me down when I least was prepared or expected it.  Ok, enuf' whining from this quarter.

Those squares sure make me wish I knew how to crochet/knit or anything remotely connected to crafts/sewing.  I'm a hopeless twit with that stuff.

DH is going to work on my computer a bit this a.m.----as though much could help this old slow thing.  It's an XP but one of the first and it's nearly full and just struggles a lot now.  Sounds like me don't it????

I'll be checking back later.  Whatever you do, do it well and have a good time....even if it's furniture shopping.

    Jackie
