LOL
For those of you who are working that day...HEY...my advice...call in sick and join us! LOL

Wait...on second thought...give me your bosses phone numbers and I'll call them, and tell them you won't be in because you have an important meeting with a very distinguished group of bc experts! LOL

Dear Ladies going to Algonquin,
Be sure to bring the cameras and be certain you take the pics. Stay away from Greek guys when it comes to picture-taking (remember Long Grove).
I am so happy for you. I feel like your mother encouraging you all to go have a fun girls' day. Laura, your idea of calling me in sick is interesting but will never work. Every time I have a sub.....well.....ask Wendy's husband to tell you what happens. I teach 8th grade and they are dangerous with subs.
I was thinking I could have everyone over for a lunch during the summer and during the weekend. I am not sure, however, if I live too far from you people. My dh says Elgin is close enough. I just wouldn't want to exclude anyone because of distance. We can talk about it.
Just had a great weekend and hope you all did as well. Have fun girls on Tuesday and forget the restaurant's dress code....set the code and start OUR own fashion statement.

Wow! You gals have been busy posting and planning, it appears! I hope you all had a great weekend.
I spent the weekend spoiling my grandsons. Can you imagine that??? Their house passed my inspection and a good time was had by all! Saturday was beautiful there........sunshine all day. I NEED THE SUN!!!! My mood improved greatly!
I'm jealous but so glad that some of you are going to get to meet this week. Please take pictures and post them for those of us who won't be able to make it! And.......as Susan says........have FUN!!!
Laura....get to taking that calcium! (And that's an order!!!!! LOL) Also, for those of you on Arimidex, get Vitamin D-3 instead of plain Vitamin D. It is much more effective. Kater, as for the insomnia. Remember how bad I had that at first with the Arimidex? Tylenol PM didn't even touch it. Finally it went away. Like Wendy, I take my Arimidex pill with breakfast.......and always with food.
Jan from Clinton....lunch sounds like fun! Ginny is from Normal and Mary Jane is just 1 1/2 hours away. One of her daughters goes to ISU so maybe we can talk her into joining us also. As for the rads.......you'll be tired, but you should do O.K. with them. For me, they were much easier than the chemo. I don't do any of the support groups. In fact, I stay away from the cancer center as much as I can now that my treatments are finished.
Welcome Lee...stop in anytime!
Michele....somebody has to support Post It Notes and keep them in business! LOL It might as well be us!
Hi to everybody else. I'm really tired so I'm going to get comfortable in my recliner.
Catch you all tomorrow!

Morning girls! No graphics this am as I am just too shocked for words.
The newspaper was actually IN the driveway and NOT under the SUV.
Remember that music from the TV show "The Twilight Zone"? I am hearing it in my head.
Rita....sounds like you had fun. Good for you!
Yep, Susan....subs are a funny thing! What DH sometimes does is take over part of the day, maybe for an hour or so....kids don't cause much trouble that way. Of course, this is K-6 and DH is 6'4 so this might be a factor as well! He also has a list of about 10 subs he uses so the kids know these subs and can't/don't get away with too much. But 8th graders??? I bet they eat subs for breakfast. Oh...I mean substitutes. Well...you probably got it anyway. Ah...chemobrain.
I'll make sure the batteries are fresh in the camera.
Oh my gosh...this is for sure going to be a strange day. First the newspaper and now...for the first time...I just got an e-mail from bc.org, telling me I have a PM (I checked that box months ago and this is the first time it actually worked). Unfortunately it was the PM I had already read 24 hours ago.
Hmmmmm....maybe I should go back to bed and pull the covers over my head.
Later......

Good morning. I have a few minutes to ramble and then I need to hit the shower and scoot to the dentist's office. YUCK!
I finally got through all the posts. It's traumatic being away!!! LOL
Kater..so glad that you are healing well and that Tabitha is back. Breathe in, breathe out!
Laura and JanClare...so glad that you're staying involved with the Koman association. We do need that cure. My guardian angel lost her battle with bc on Saturday. She was the one who stepped up and helped me get into the Peoria surgeon and into the best oncologist in town. (She worked in my doctor's office.) She had mets when I met her and still took the time to help me. She had just turned 47 and it makes me so angry. Her cancer was not discovered until it was WAY too late so her situation is so different from ours. She never had a chance once it was found. Still she reached out to me and so many others. I try to use her as my role model. At a time when my family and friends were standing to the side not really knowing how to deal with me, she stepped in and helped a complete stranger.
Susan, this is why I say that we need your ideas about moving forward to find the resources and the cure. You're looking at it the right way.
Nandy...So glad your recent cramping experience was only a scare. How well we all understand that scare!!!!
Wendy.. please pass on that good turkey lasanga recipe when you get a chance. I love lasagna and am always looking for a healthier version.
Connie...a cookie bouquet! How wonderful! What a pleasant surprise! Have you decided where you want to go for that girls' weekend?
Ginny...hope those drains come out today. I will try to catch up with you later and see how it went. Also, good luck tomorrow.
Jan.. What time will you be doing your rads?
MJ...Yes, we had a good trip! So glad that your rads went O.K. and that you got a good report. I take it that you had to go to Galesburg since you got in some shopping????
Wendy...still cracking up about your sound machine experience. Too funny! LOL Don't think that one of them is in my immediate future! LOL
Well...Everyone have a good day! Hello to all the rest of you....Jackie, Blackjack, Kats, Nicki, Julie, Smerf, and anybody else that I've missed.
Talk to you later.

Good Morning Ladies, I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Rita..sounds like you had lots of fun with your grandsons. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I will say a prayer for her and her family.
Wendy..I miss your graphics this am. Can you put up some palms trees and ocean for me. I love the beach
Nandy..Welcome to this site. Hope you are feeling better with your leg pain
Ginny..Hope you get your drains out today and you are feeling better sson.
Laura and JanClare..looking forward to meeting you soon.
Connie..are you ready for Las Vegas..ching ching
and for everyone else hope you have a great day
I am off to another md appt. for this lung problem. Diagnosis is
asthma and bronchitis. I am getting better with the inhalers. Just need to stay away from smoke...even though I don't smoke, I am glad we are smoke free now!
Have a great day

Rita - That's so sad. I'm sorry. This disease is so insidious! You could add her name to the ongoing Angel list. There's a section dedicated to friends who have died. Here's the link:
http://community.breastcancer.org/topic/56/conversation/694012?page=3#idx_62
There's several girls here at bc,org who are in the final stages. It's so rampant. One of the girls in my Roctober Group is a Dr. Her 20 year old patient died this weekend from bc. We need a cure!

Hi Just found your thread. Does it count that I grew up in Elgin? Moved away shortly after hi school.First dx in April 2002 Stage 1 Grade 1 ER+ PR+ Her2- 12mm. Had a mastectomy attempted tamoxifen, but side effects were to much for me. Onc said "not to worry, grade 1" But then almost 4 years to the date of my mast I found a lump on the mast site! Yep it was back! This time chemo and rads. Now taking aromasine.
Anyone else have a second dx on mast site?

Hi Rita,
I live in Mundelein Illinois, north of Chicago. I was dx with idc 4 days before Christmas, and am looking forward (????) to my lumpectomy on Friday this week. Wow, has my life changed! This sure is an adventure. Hoping it will turn out well....
Calypso

Hi again...Blackjack, this one's for you!
Welcome Calypso...sorry you found us, but glad you did. Let us know a bit more about you and what you find on your lumpectomy. Most of us are done with treatment, but there are some still dealing with it all. We can most probably help with some ?'s, or can direct you to someone who can help.
tdbear....OK...that is SO NOT FAIR! It came back on the mastectomy side??? Jeesh. Come back often and let us know how you are doing...Yep, growing up in Elgin counts! It's being born here that makes the Illinois Gals TOUGH!!!!
OK...reason for the post...kats is pretty sure she might be able to make it for lunch. Our group is growing for tomorrow..YAY!!! Anybody else?

tdbear - Calypso - Welcome!
tdbear - Wow...I'm sorry it came back! I think that's pretty rare. What type of bc is it?
Calypso - Best wishes to you on Friday.
WENDY - I figured out a way for you "find" your paper every morning...go to GoogleEarth, type in your address...maybe the paper will show up! LOL
----------------------
I can't wait to meet you girls tomorrow. blackjack, Mary, wendy...is Jackie coming?

Wendy Thank you.. thank you I love the palm trees and ocean. I feel so calm now. You are the best!!!!

Hi girls -
I'm with Michele - I can't keep up with all these posts. If I don't check in everyday, there are just too many of them. I guess that's a good thing as we are all having fun.
Sorry to hear about your friend, Rita. This disease stinks.
I haven't decided where to go for our girls weekend yet. I'm not sure I'm a spa type person. I think I would like it for a couple of hours, but not for a weekend. I'm not a lay around kind of person - I like to be out doing things. I'm really thinking about making it another Vegas weekend for a couple of reasons. This trip on Thursday will be partly work so I don't think I will have a ton of time for play - pretty much just Saturday as we leave to come home first thing Sunday morning. AND I know my mom would love to go to Vegas. She is 82 years old and loves the slots, but she has macular degeneration and can't drive. So, she hardly ever gets out and can't see very good when she is out. So, I kind of have to think about what would be good for her too. A lot of walking wouldn't be good for her and I don't think she would have a good time in a spa. So, I'm still thinking.
Glad you are getting better, Blackjack. I hope the smoke in the casinos don't set you back.
Hi to everyone else!!

THE DRAINS ARE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel so much better and have alot less pain. I go to the oncologists office tomorrow and see what they say.
Gotta go to the store...

blackjack - Hope you're feeling better.

connie - Vegas is ALWAYS fun! and warm!

Welcome Welcome to Calypso and Tdbear. Who'd thought your bc would come back. Sounds like that Oncotype Dx would have been a good test for you to take.
Girls, I have been missing a bit........just took in another doggie in need of a home. Baby Boss is a purebred Pomeranian. Owner passed on and the heirs were just going to put this lovely loving dog to sleep.......I said a big no........it's not the dogs fault that the owner died. Anyway....he's three yrs. old and looks like a baby fox. House trained and is getting along very well with all the house cats. He does not bark at them....just looks and attempts to play.
Connie...does your mom like music...you might find a couple of concerts somewhere. Also, maybe dinner out somewhere. It's wonderful for you to think of your Mom. I took care of my Mom the last yr of her life and it was and remains as one of the greatest time periods in my life.....sad, but I now look back in joy and peace because I was able to do it for her and be with her so much.
Rita, speaking of that.......I feel sorrow that you lost such a friend. It's a beautiful gift when someone can reach out and make such a difference in your recovery knowing all the while they won't get the same outcome.......that's a very special kind of person.
Wendy....that was sweet to make sure Blackjack got her palm trees. Your a real good kid, know that.
Laura........so are you offering to call everyone's boss like that.
Mich...hang in there. My brain doesn't work most of the time...I blame it on the stroke as it's been like that for so long now.
A big hi to everyone else. Baby Boss is in my lap keeping me company as I type and it's not getting easier. He really is a love bug.
Talk to ya soon.

Hey everyone...this has been a busy place today!
A big hello and welcome to tdbear and Calypso. We'll still take you tdbear. You're an Illinois gal at the core! I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this a second time. This darn disease has no rhyme nor reason it appears. Hang in there and come back and see us often.
Calypso..wow! No time is good for a bc diagnosis but the Christmas season is about the worst and I'm speaking from experience. I had my last lumpectomy just a few days before Christmas last year. Quite the bummer, eh? Please tell us some more about yourself and we will be thinking about you on Friday. Post often. The whole journey IS doable....and we will help you get through!
Oh Jackie...you are a sweetie to save that poor dog. It sounds like you've gained a great friend!
Ginny...YEAH!!!! No more drains!!!!! I will call you when I get out of the visitation tomorrow afternoon to see what the next step will be. I have my fingers, toes, and everything crossed for you!
Connie...hey, I see nothing wrong with another trip to Vegas! (Can you imagine that???) Like you, I prefer active trips. I don't sit in one place for very long. I even bounce between slot machines! LOL
Julie, please check in. We've been thinking about you.
All of you gals have a good lunch tomorrow. Hope you have that camera battery all charged up Wendy! We need pictures! I will be with you in spirit! I already told Laura that you can eat an extra dessert or have an extra beverage for me!
Well, I still have a few questions that I need to type out before I forget them and then I'm back to my book. It's a good one!

Hello ladies,
It is REALLY cold and windy here. I went to see my 90 year old mother today. Thought she would want to stay in, but she wanted to go for a ride and eat lunch out so we did. Hopefully, when I'm her age, I'll have her spirit!
Rita, I'm sorry to hear about Sandy. I know she really helped you. That is such a shame.
Welcome, Calypso and tdbear. Hope your lumpectomy goes well Friday, Calypso.
Sounds like you are getting quite a group to lunch tomorrow. Have fun! Rita, I'd be glad to come to B'ton to meet you and Jan from Normal some day. Just let me know.
Well, I don't know much today. I'm really tired so I think I'll go read the newspaper and curl up in my chair.
Have a good evening, everyone.

Some more comments popped up while I was typing and eating supper. It sure is hard to keep up here!
Ginny, so glad the drains are out! Good luck tomorrow at the oncologist.
Jackie, you are a good scout to adopt Baby Boss!
Connie, have you thought about a shopping/eating out/going to a musical/sleeping in outing? Of course you can do all of that in Vegas, right?
My sweet husband listened to me complain about being tired and cold and is now building a fire in the fireplace. What a guy!

Do any of you girls knit or crochet?
0 -
Rita- I am saddened by the loss of your friend. My condolensces to you.
Jackie- Post a picture of Baby Boss if you can. He sounds really cute.
Ginny-Glad your drains are out, that makes such a difference!
Calypso and Tdbear- Welcome, sorry you have to join us but this is a great group. Tdbear, can I ask, did you find the lump on the mast site on your own? I always wonder if I would be able to feel anything because of the scars, tissue expander(soon to be implant), etc.
All this talk of Vegas makes me really want to go - I mentioned it to my sister - we'll see!
Later,
michele

HEY - I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS! OMG - me and my Rocktober Chemo Girls are meeting in Vegas this May. Do any of my Illinois sisters want to join us? They would welcome you with open arms. They all came here in August, from all over the world...there's 17 of us! We met for the first time in August and we LOVE EACH OTHER.
0 -
Oh, Laura........that is so tempting! What do you think, Michele? LOL
We had a fire last night, too, Mary Jane. The wind was really whipping around the house and it had a chill to it. I got warmed up so much I fell asleep in the chair.
I don't have much time today as it's bowling day and once I leave the house I won't be back until dinner time this evening. I have about an hour and a half gap between lunch and the visitation and I'd just get home and have to turn around and head back into town so I think I'll camp out at Borders with a latte and my notebook and write some questions. I will be thinking about you northern sisters at your luncheon today. HAVE FUN~~~
Laura, I can do basic crochet. My grandmother taught me. She used to make the lacy table coverings, dresses for dolls, and of course, afghans. I loved the things she made but didn't really enjoy crocheting that much. It's funny, though, I've been thinking about buying some yarn and giving it another try. Maybe I've matured enough now! LOL (Then again, I imagine that it's a passing whim!)
Well, I hope all of you are snuggled in and warm this morning. I need to get moving. Have fun today ladies! Everyone have a good day.
More later........
Rita

Hi all! Ginny....YAY!!!!!!!!! No more drains!!!!!
Laura....Jackie is in Centralia so I doubt that she will be making it to lunch today. I think Kater was supposed to be coming if she is caught up on her bookkeeping. And I know how to knit a LITTLE and I can crochet so-so...why? I used to crochet all the time in winter until I read on this website about a woman getting LE from it. Spooked me a bit, but I still do it.
Rita...you don't sound like yourself. I know you are very sad and I am sorry for that. Hugs to you, lots of them.
MaryJane...good for your Mom! There was something in People Mag last week about how a 50-something wouldn't jump out of a plane. Then she turned 80 and said "What the hell?"...and did it. I hope I will still be driving around in a sports car, with the volume WAY up on the stereo, listening to rock music. And I have been told that I am the cool Aunt. And this by a bunch of nephew/nieces that are all in the mid- to late-30's.
Jackie...yep...e-mail me a pic of your new little buddy and I will post for you.
Connie...you know what? Your Mom is great as she did the kid-raising thing RIGHT. You guys sound like such a warm and wonderful and supportive group.
Well...I need to get a move on to the gym so I can eat that extra dessert at lunch. See you guys later....and dress warm! It's only 7 over here in So. Elgin.

Glad to hear the drains are out, Ginny!!
May in Vegas - that is funny because I was going to suggest that month to my family as a possibility. I'm going to wait until I get back from this trip to decide for sure. The suggestions about a musical would be good as I love those and so does the rest of my family. Shopping would not do it for me as I hate to shop! The card I received mentioned several options (weekend in Chicago, Vegas, Fort Worth (where one sister lives), San Francisco (not sure why), or whereever!) The more I think about it though the more I think Vegas would work for everyone involved. Thanks for the continued suggestions!
Hope you guys have a great lunch today. I am sitting at work getting ready to enjoy my ham sandwich.
Welcome Calypso and tdbear! Sorry to hear of your situations, but we are here to help you through!
Have a great day ladies.

To add to my earlier post... In 2002 I opted not to have reconstruction. I do self exam on both sides. I found a lump about the size of a 50cent peice but not round or smooth around the edges. I knew it was back without asking Dr. Now on to recovery!!
Been 14 months since my last treatment hair came back with a nice soft curl I loved it. Till last week, suddenly my curl was gone! No change in shampoo diet ect.... Now hair is back to being straight as a stick! Anyone else have that happen? ( I get my hair cut about every 5 weeks)

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Gosh tdbear---I don't know much about the hair loss and return ( and too dumb to make notes to myself about where I find information ) but it seems to me that I read somewhere that sometimes the changes you have in your hair are somewhat temporary. Were you taking any type of anti-hormone pill. I know I read that some of those will thin the hair somewhat---not what I was wanting to hear that's for sure.
Tomorrow is #3 for me. Sure hope all goes well.
I will try to see what the hang up is on dh downloading pics off our camera into the computer. Last time we took some they wouldn't go in he said. Then you all can see sweet little Baby Boss.
Take care all.......hope you had a great lunch.
Jackie
