Rita This sucks. Wishing your dad the best
Camillegal I don't know if I have the latest info because things change so quickly. I don't have the time like before to devote 24/7 to breast cancer research but I do my best. But thanks so much for the compliment. Hope you getting some sleep now. Have you tried a sleep mask. I swear by mine. Has really made a difference.

Give the best you have received from the past to the best that you may come to know in the future. Accept life daily not as a cup to be drained but as a chalice to be filled with whatsoever things are honest, pure, lovely, and of good report.
Making a living is best undertaken as a part of the more important business of making a life. Every now and again take a good look at something not made of hands--a mountain, a star, the turn of a stream. There will come to you wisdom and patience and solace and, above all, the assurance that you are not alone in the world.

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in quite a while, and am behind on reading as well, but just wanted to check in. First, Rita, wishing your Dad the best. Second, I have been crazy busy with work and kids' stuff; most days, I barely have time to think about BC, which is probably good because any time I do think about it too much, I still get very scared and worried that it will come back. Third, I am having my exchange surgery on April 5. I have recovered really well from the lat flap surgery, and my LE is under control. Have heard that the exchange is fairly easy, and in fact am hosting my younger daughter's birthday party 2 days later, so hopefully what I have heard is true! I am pretty sure that LisaMomOf4 told me she was driving her kids around the same afternoon as her exchange, so I am optimistic. I am 11 months post-chemo, and 9 months post-rads, and am feeling really good in general. I don't think I would have believed that I would ever say that one year ago. Thinking of all of you, Lisa

Dear all:
Lunch was glorious. Through unfortunate cancer and this thread, one can make lifelong friends. Thank you to my friends who have enhanced my life with your love and friendship.
Wishing you the best! Rita, especially you! Take care, my dear!

Lago -- new picture/avatar. Very, very nice....I really like it. Oops, going to quit writing here. Don't know how often I've had to go back and correct a word I spelled backward. Little scary...hmmm.
Peace and love,

Compassion is the basis of all truthful relationship: it
means being present with love--for ourselves and for all
life, including animals, fish, birds, and trees. Compassion
is bringing our deepest truth into our actions, no matter
how much the world seems to resist, because that is ultimately
what we have to give this world and one another.

Hi everyone. I was born and raised in Chicago but I now live in northwest Indiana. I'm 33 years old and was diagnosed last June stage IIIa and this February diagnosed stage IV with a bone met to T12. I just came across this thread and wanted to introduce myself. I'm married and mom to two beautiful children. My boy is 3 and daughter will be turning 1 next month. I'm just finishing with radiation and will be starting chemo again April 8th. I'm glad to have found a thread close to home. Wishing everyone the best of luck and looking forward to getting to know everyone!

welcome Dramirez7641 We have several Illinios gals that have moved away. I think the farthest one is Arizona, also a gal in Oregon. Hammond is a suburb of Chicago. You live a lot close than some of the downstate gals. Less than 30 minutes to the loop.

Hi ladies very nice to meet you. I lived on the southwest side of Chicago for 22 years and then moved to Oak Lawn where my parents and brothers still live. I really am just 30 min from the city. I'm being treated at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and actually work part time there too as a cardiac monitor technician. I think I spend more time in Oak Lawn then I do at home now a days. I have such a wonderful support group with my family and friends. I am just trying to stay positive and take one day at a time. My kids really do keep me going and they keep me busy! Thank you for the warm welcome!

Welcome
Dramirez 764,As always we are sorry you need to be here, but glad you found a spot of comfort to latch onto. These are great gals....always a kind word, helping hand, or whatever will help you with the humps in the road.
I'm sort of an old-timer so not so good with current info anymore but I do post a quote everyday to share. I hope you will come often.
Love and peace,
Jackie

Hi Dramirez 764! I'm so glad that you reached out to us! I think you may be closer to Chicago than some of the IL Ladies, including myself - LOLOL! I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago and it definitely takes me more than 30 minutes to get into the city. You fit right in! And that is bitter-sweet, of course.., sorry that you have to be here but you have come to a GREAT place! You will find good information, kindness and care from the IL Ladies! We're quite a unique group.., old-timers and new-comers alike.., all have something to offer!
I had worked (prior to diagnosis) in the medical setting that provided me with my care (chemo & surgeries). It was kind of strange but comforting at the same time. The familiarity of the environment helped ease my anxiety. It sounds like you are currently an employee AND a patient. I hope the familiarity of your surroundings brings you some comfort too.
Please keep in touch with us Dramirez 764. It is so good to know that you have a strong support system. Consider us, the IL Ladies, an extension of your support system! "I am just trying to stay positive and take one day at a time" - that's a great approach Dramirez!

C-squared. You have a new avatar too....can't remember if I said anything, but if not --- wow !!! I like it. Glad the week-end is here. I'm ready for some sleeping in....which I always think will happen and rarely ever does. Its a wonderful thought though.
Peace and love,
Jackie

LOLOL! Yes, Jackie it is new.., from my niece's wedding last weekend (with my brothers shoulders in the background - HA!). I've been out of the bandanna (previous picture) for months.., just never had opportunity to change it because I didn't have any recent pictures. I'm not really "photogenic" at all but I'm happy to have hair!!!

I wouldn't say you're not photogenic! Your smiling face makes me happy! You look great!

In a noisy world, seek the silence in your heart. And through the power of silence, the energies of chaos will be brought back to harmony--not by you, but through you, as all miracles are. When we visit this silence regularly, particularly in the morning, then the days of our lives become lit from above. Darkness and fear are cast from our midst, slowly at first, one moment at a time. Ultimately, all darkness will be gone from every heart. Marianne Williamson

Also, just want to pop in to say hi, especially to the new ones. Welcome Dramirez. You will love this Illinois Ladies thread. C-Squared...thanks for the updated avatar. Really cute pic! My avatar is almost a year old.... I will have to think about updating as well... just as soon as I find a decent photo.
We are back from Arizona and hoping that the sun will start shining around here again soon! Things are pretty chaotic as I just cannot seem to get around to unpacking. Yuck! I miss my PT team in AZ. They were wonderful and my LE still continues to improve.
On to the next step. Lemondrop... we should have coordinated our exchange surgeries. Mine is this Monday, April 1st. I am soooo ready to get rid of this darn TE.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate. Make the most of the weekend. I am hoping to get out on my bike tomorrow afternoon to work off the calories that I am planning to devour later.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I'm on break from radiation due to my skin breaking down pretty bad. I see my RO Tuesday and hope to get these last 4 boosts over and done with! I will be starting chemo again April 8th (Ixempra and Xeloda) and just hope it won't kick my butt too hard. Keeping my fingers crossed! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! The weather is beautiful today! Deyla

Welcome to Dramariz (hard name to remember) and wanted to tell you that I am also an oldster too (cancer was like 7 years ago) but I had trouble with the radiation as my skin is so white. I had to take a break too but then this doctor gave me these gel pads that give to burn patients and INSTANT relief. They were like miracles. I asked why it took them so long to give me this relief and she said they are very costly which is a ridiculous when you are in so much pain. Ask them about these pads. You cut it to shape and keep them in the refrigerator.
Susan

I just looked them up on the internet and they are VERY expensive. You only get three pads with this kit. Being a hospital employee, perhaps you can ask around, especially if you have a burn unit. I cried when they put these on me as the pain was so awful and these sheets took all the pain away!
Radiation Burn Care Kit To maximize radiation burn relief and skin repair we offer a second package of products which are all different from our Original Radiation Care.
These items are included in the Radiation Burn Care Kit:
• RADX moisture therapy lotion
• RADX radiation therapy lotion
• CoolMagic Hydrogel Sheets – quantity 3 – size 3.75 inch square
Price: $53.00 Qty: 0 -
Hi Susan thank you for the tip! My name is Deyla( pronounced Day-la) but my parents made it difficult for me with the spelling Lol. I get all kinds of pronunciations. I guess I really did need the break. I can already feel the difference. They prescribed me silvadene(spelling?) But they have never mentioned gel pads. I will ask about them! Deyla
