Long day today with a couple hours work, then long drive to Marion V.A. for Dh. Just a check up. It is 140 mile round trip. Stop at Sams Club there to pick up some good items. I buy Lesure ( sp? ) baby green peas as the are outrageous in the regular grocery stores. Also a big bag of apples. We eat a lot of them here lately.
A good day all around though sometimes I get weary of the driving by the time we are home. Weather is not too bad....car was stuffy several times with the sun beating in......sort of nice in a way. Hope you all had a really good day.

Hello Everyone!
The tornado hit about 4 miles northwest of us, tearing down barns, twisting those huge interstate highway signs, and weaving some destruction. The poor city of Washington, which is closer to Peoria, was mostly flattened. I feel so sorry for those people. They also hit southeast of Champaign. We were lucky here as we just had high winds and a few limbs down.

Welcome compor...As others have said, the first part of this journey is the most mind-boggling and scary. There are so many different decisions to make and the unknown can be quite frightening. Many of us have gotten through the chemo with relatively few side effects and some have even tackled radiation on top of the chemo. We all went one day at a time and just helped each other. Never be afraid to come on here and vent. There will always be somebody who will listen and many who can give you little pointers to work through whatever needs attention. You will get through this and we wil help you. Hugs!!!
Joan, my cousin who is also a breast cancer survivor, lives in Phoenix. I know she was going to some of the Phoenix area group meetings so maybe you will run into her.

Raining here today....darn, I won't get to blow leaves. Well, I'll try and buck up and not be too down hearted. Our weather will get on the really cool side for a couple of days....near freezing, but hopefully come back up a bit. For the most part we still seem to be in somewhat un-predictable mode where most of that is concerned.
I hope you all will have an ok day. I'm off to pay bills in a bit.....another one of those really fun and satisfying chores. Sigh !!!!

I'm back it's been raining most of the day here but no wind or anything brutal so it's OK.
I had my down the throat and up the ass test today. I do tend to talk more probably nerves even tho I don't feel them--everyone was awesome---one of the things I did say ---I was turned toward the wall so I really didn't know who was where, but the nurse was going to put that thing in my mouth to keep it open an right before she tightened it I said oooo kinky and I heard everyone laugh and I thought here's this old lady talking like that. Anyway my bottom half was good I'm still a perfect a$$hole and he biopsied a few places of his concern which I have no concerns. But he won't find out why I have had D for over 6 yrs, now. He's trying, poor guy.'
Oh well I'm kind of tired trying to go on the computer today but didn't have a lot of luck, I'm so lazy.

So cool here this morning....winter is right around the next tree or will be for a bit. Hopefully our temps. will creep up a bit. Glad water hoses were still running this morning.

Once again this a.m. it is below freezing and likely to stay there. Was outside doing the animals who are in a heated dog house. They had a bucket of frozen water.....or so I thought....only on top. I poured it all over my foot. I did a couple of other things and then came him to dry off and get warm, dry socks.....then back out to finish. Oh the joys of cold weather. Have to go out today and find a 'heated' bucket. Had enough to go around but obviously missing one that refuses to be found. Sigh !!! Another of those little interesting footnotes and you can bet.....we will be a lot more careful this time when we put the bucket away for warm weather time.
I hope you all have a great Monday. Hard to believe it is almost "the" big gobble day. I have been cooking a fair amt. as I will be working starting Tuesday and going until Sat. from 8 a.m. to at least 8 p.m. Tonight I will cook the Thanksgiving dinner......but for not for me, for Dh. As I'm working that day, I will eat left-over with Dh after I come home.....after 8p.m.
I'm old enough not to mind and it is a rare thing......and like most people in this economy.....a little extra can be a good thing.

Well, I'm off to see the oncologist today, and surgery is Tuesday. In some ways this is going by so slowly, and in other ways it is just flying by. 17 people for dinner tomorrow will help keep my mind off of things for a little while anyway!
If anyone has any helpful hints for double mastectomy/reconstruction with tissue expanders please let me know. I'm all about learning from the experiences of others.

I have been reading your posts here for a while. I am in the NW suburbs and am being treated at Northwestern. I had my BMX on 11/14. I am recovering well. I just got the last 2drains out yesterday (yeah) and my first fills. The filled me 300cc in the OR and I got 60ccs yesterday. I am surprised at how great they look already!

Corpor, if you haven't yet check out the thread topic "What to expect Before during and after surgery I highly recommend it.
Also a few other things, bring a pillow for the ride home to place between your chest and the seatbelt so the belt is now pushing on your chest area. Its also very comfortable to rest your arms on the side of pillow.
Ask you Dr for your perscriptions for your pain meds and antibiotics before hand so you can fill them before you go to hospital. In addition ask him to prescribe the scapolopien (spelling?) patch to place behind your ear the day before surgery, It really helps in addition to the anti-neausas they can put in your IV.
