ritajean, just saw your hometown.  I graduated from ISU just up the road.  Well, it WAS a few years back, though.......

Yes, she said our MO said it was the same cancer returned 23 yrs later.  I think they are able to tell from the biopsies if it is a return of breast cancer or a new and different primary bone tumor.  The cells are different.  She is not bummed at all, at least while she was with me.  I on the other hand am very bummed out over her new diagnosis.  I go Monday for my Herceptin infusion, q. 3 weeks, maybe I will see her there.

Being the squeaky wheel that I am, I complained that I wanted my Herceptin over 30 minutes, not the 60 they were using.  They argued with me, so I called my MO and his nurse upstairs on my cell from the infusion chair to complain, the infusion RN called the pharmacy to confirm, the head nurse called the manufacturer Genentech who confirmed that 30 minutes is fine if you tolerated the first infusion OK.  Which I did. So now I only sit there for 30 min which is what I wanted and what they did when I was at the U. hospital in Chicago.  Do they think we are stoopid or something?

Long story even longer, the local hospital admin. called and asked me to join a community committee to improve their cancer care division as to customer focus, quality of experience, general care, etc.  The first meeting was great, they are part of a STAR program to improve care for all.  Anyone heard of it?

Beautiful sunny day here, which in February is NOT a good thing because it means COLD!!

barb1319 that's awesome. Love to be on a committee like that in the city. BTW my first infusion of Herceptin was faster than 60 minutes. As they saw I was doing fine they just kept speeding it up. All subsequent infusions of Herceptin only 30 minutes.

I didn't get Herceptin but CMF but I asked for them to slow down the infusion.  I did not feel well when it went at the regular speed.  Since then I have asked for all infusions to be slowed down, i.e. for the CT scan.  I tolerate it much better that way.  People are all so different!

Fabulous Adey!  I was so sorry to see your change in situation but from what I hear you can go for 30 years in stage IV.

Hopefully, by then they'll have a REAL cure!!!

Very nervous but otherwise Ok.  thanks for asking.  I just called the surgeon because one of the steristrips came off and the incision was very red.  The resident told me that's normal, not infection.  So I put Neosporin on it (she said that was ok) and a big band aid so I can't see it.  I think all of the nervousness is adding up.  I just took a xanax.  Between the travel, the surgery, the cancer (still no path report), my husband not helping out, the red incision almost pushed me over the edge!  It's also about -15 degrees out with a couple of feet of snow on the ground and I can't drive for another week and I can't do anything around the house for weeks.  Can't lift anything over 10 pounds for SIX WEEKS!  I just know the path report will be bad...I've been researching.  Because it's high grade I'm sure i'll need radiation and possibly chemo...again.  Better stop...it's making me even more nervous and there's nothing to be done.

Aren't you glad you asked?  Too much information!  But in the meantime, I guess you could say I'm OK!  lol

Tim-I've been thinking about you. Warm hugs.

I just finished reading The Emperor of All Maladies: The Biography of Cancer.  It was one of the best non fiction books I've ever read. I didn't find it depressing but very insightful.  It made be grateful to be alive in 2014. Has anyone else read it?  What did you think about it?

Agreed! on the commercials, radio ads... I suppose a little selfish when I think okay, so walk and we will find a cure? well 1 it is too late for me and 2 how far, how long and for how many years do we have to walk to get this knocked out? pffft! I thought it was just me who didn't like to hear those ads.

Barb, Much love to you vent, vent and vent away it is therapy with people who know how you feel.  I have friends say all the time well at least you got the cancer out, it could be worse, blah.. blah... geez they have not clue!

    XO Happy FRIDAY!!

Yes, I've read Emperor.  It was an excellent book written by a young oncologist, not a journalist.  Still in accessible language for a lay person.  It's time for a second book from him.

fgm you finished it! I started it when I was doing my Herceptin infusions but didn't finish it. I need to pick it up again. I think I was 1/2 through it.

myers421 as annoying as these walks are (I also get spammed with email and ads from at least 3 of 4 of them Some of them the same but different states because I've donated) some of the money does go to research not just for early detection. I have several friends that are metastatic, 3 of which are running out of options. I raise money and donate money for them. Just not sure if I will do it this year. A bit too late for Komen/Avon but still looking into others. I will not be participating in any ACS activities this year.

LAST CHANCE Tomorrow for lunch Corrinne and I are celebrating our birthday on Devon in Chicago. If you're free and interested PM and I will send you the time and info.

My husband read Emperor and loved it.  I can't deal with that.  I'm reading Tina Fey's "Bossypants" and laughing my head off!
