Can we talk chemo brain?  My spelling!!!!  Oh my Gosh!  Please let me blame chemo brain!  My mother would be aghast!

Edit for chemo brain:  Patience is a virtue and a person can be virtuouse - I think.  But that is a lot closer than what I posted earlier.

Ok here's the deal on sun after radiation.  I just needed to know why.  I called the nurse.  Yes you say to stay out of the sun to a year after radiation, can you tell me why?  She said the red burn mark from the rads will go away, but if you get out in the sun  it will come back and maybe not go away...yup that was enough for me to know to mind what I was told.  Unless you want a permanant purple birthmark on your teate and upper chest I'd suggest to stay out of the sun for a year.

MASON WHERE ARE YOU?  Everyone is worried about you dear.

Bold:  Sending love and prayers you way.  You can do it, just put one foot in front of the other and go in and do it.  You are almost done sweetie.

Cupcake:  I have to add to the sun/skin thing.  Chemo has thinned your skin horribly!  And it has effected your natural melanin production.  Between the thin skin and the lack of natural protection from melanin - we will fry!! And cause even more premature aging.  Come on gals!!  Chemo has aged us enough!

    Darling Ladies,

Ipursuit: My name ipohgirl comes from ipoh town, the former tin mining capital of the world in Malaysia where I was born and raised. It is a small pretty town surrounded by beautiful limestone hills (a ring) and produces very good beansprouts, towfoo (becoz of the alkaline water), pomeloes and other exotic tropical fruits. We also produced a Bond Girl - Michelle Yeoh - who made it big in Hollywood. But I've been away for 30 years. If you get a chance, do make a trip to Malaysia since it's an amalgam of Malay, Indian, Chinese and Arab cultures. The hotels are a deal and the food is very good. The beaches are very popular with Brits and Euros.

Cupcake : thanks for your caring thoughts and encouragement. I will tell her to read your post.

Lisa: how lucky you are to be able to live in the country...................hey, your daughters look so........good, like their mum.

About the sun issue, my cousin works as a medical physicist (does RT, pet scans, etc) and concurred with Cupcake that we should never, EVER expose the radiated parts to the sun for at least a year (two would be better). I think it's worth following the advice unless, like Cupcake says, we want to have permanent tatoos on our titties............

    Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

    Hugs,

    Ipohgirl

    Hi Ladies-

You probably don't remember me because it's been awhile. I've been just like Bold, too weak to do anything! I'll get on and read the posts because the laptop is right here next to my couch. Which by the way, is leather and is beginning to have an imprint on it, strangly in the exact shape of my body! I haven't even had the energy to post. My red count went below 10 last week and they gave me a shot of something that starts with an "A", it wasn't procrit. Rather then perk me up, I was DOWN and nauseous. Now I have just gotten Emend as the Zofan ceased doing it's job. I have confidence in that from Cupcakes experience. It's probably the "cumulative effect." Remember, I am the 3 weeks on, 1 off weekly oddity here. It was suppose to be easier but I'm not so sure I buy that. I just start to feel well (in comparison) by Wednesday and then I'm back in on Friday, so I never have a good week. The first week off was, but not the second. One more this round and then only ONE MORE round of 3 to go! It can't come soon enough. I am finding it very hard to get my butt back there on Fridays.

Bold, I keep forgetting to ask you about your role on GH. Who were you? I may or may not know. Followed that show (and all ABC soaps) in college, then when I was home bringing up my girls. Now that I am working from home, I'm watching them again, though I don't know who half the people are!

RE: Nails. I think (so far) that's the only se I have not encountered. I have been keeping them short, apply lots of clear BIOTIN polish and oil on nails and cuticles. I look everyday to see if any darkness is showing up in my nails but none (she says tentatively).

I'm still so jealous of you Californians and Floridians. I NEED nice warm sunshine now! I think that would help my state of mind tremendously. Well, soon enough as the birds are indicating spring loud and clear. If only it would green up and warm up.

Lisa, you crazy counselor you. LOVE your pix! Your makeup on the bald head is awesome. I look like death warmed over even with make up! Wanted to let you know that I brought up Chemo brain with my Onc. last week and asked if it is a scientific fact. He said indeed it is and in his experience, it is the more intelligent people who suffer the most. I thought he was just trying to flatter me but he interprets the fact that those that don't bring it up, must not notice it. WHOA, can you imagine that? So my dear, have confidence that you are an intelligent being!

Cupcake- I knew I loved you even before you posted your new pix. Now I know why I was so drawn to you. My beloved grandmother passed over 25 years ago, yet I still think of her so often. My goodness, the resemblance between you is uncanny!! I just want to jump into the computer and hug you!! You don't mind some stranger jumping all over you do you??

Time to rest ladies. I wish you all a beautiful day.

Ellen: I am sending a great big hug from your grandmother that I know she would do if she was here.  But somehow I think she is near you through this.  I feel so for you cause I know how hard it is on the down days.  You just come right on in through the computer and I will hold you for as long as you want.  It is almost over for you sweetie.  Look and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.  It may be small, but if you look hard enough you will see it.  Grandma told you that you were strong.

Lisa:  Excellent addition.  I know if I scratch an itch today it just tears my skin where before it used to be white when you scratched to hard.  Wonder when it will get better???

Still watching over all you campers with love.....

Ellen -  Sorry you are having such a rough time.  You are not alone in causing the "body dent" in the couch!  Hang in there, it really does end.

Cupcake:  On the skin issue, chemo also destroys our natural collagen and elastin - two things that deminish naturally as we age.  Like we needed help in THAT department!

Well, the Florida weather must hate me.  It is raining today.  I have 40 people coming for an outdoor BBQ at 1 pm for my b-day.  I decided to be cheap and not spend the money to rent a party tent.  The horses are gonna have to move over,  cause the barn is gonna be full!

    Have a great day all!

Happy Birthday, Lisa!  Think of your animals in the barn celebrating with you!

Cupcake:  Thanks so much for returning to this board to encourage us newbies!

Denali comes from Alaska, which is a state I love to visit!

Do you ever have a down day that just comes from nowhere?  The other day I'd just had lunch with my kids, but couldn't stop crying that evening.  When my daughter found out, she sent me flowers!  And now she calls me every 3 hrs to make sure I'm ok.  They tell me to call when I'm feeling down, but that's the hardest time to pick up the phone.  And I don't want to bother them.

Here's a really funny video my son sent me about crying--cheered me up actually!

           http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-682947910823126806

I'm still getting nosebleeds and now the rash on the backs of my hands is starting to peel the skin.  Sigh.  Could be worse, I guess.

It's been beautiful here in Colorado!  In the 70s.  I'd love to plant, but know there'll be a surprise snowstorm coming when we least expect it.

    Good Morning Sisters:

Rekoz: I really wished you felt better. I have had this fever and cough for 4 days and this is suppose to be ny good week.  I can only stay up long enough to get water or potty. I have been home alone as husband is out of town til tomorrow. UGG It OK though I have no responsibilities that way. He will come home to no food in the house and a dirty kitty litter. (poor guy).

As far as my roll on GH I ran a bed and breakfast for Doctor Dante. I was on the show right before Luke and Laura heyday. Most of my acting success has been in comedy though. I also was on Marcus Wellby do you remember him. I was a child abuse case that had arrested development. (type casting). My Daughter is a producer now and is in cinema. She keeps trying to get me to go back to acting. I told her if they needed any Bald middle aged heavy set women just let me know. She has not gotten back to me on that.Undecided

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA!!!!!! Your an aries that explains alot. I am too. My BDAY is the 30th of March. I do not have one more to do by the way I have 2 more. I am most concerned about the new blood clot in my leg and the fact that I can only stand for about 15 min. But like you said I am sure that there are people that have had it worse than me. But it really does not help when your suffering. As I am sure you know. When I get over the fever and cough (which I seem to have developed a little incontinence with) (OH BOY) I am sure my strength and attitude will improve. On Chemo Brain. I was ask to be in a study for Chemo Brain at UCLA. They test you right after Chemo then in six month and then a year. I have not decided if I want to do it or not. I hate tests. And if I have lost cognitive values who the heck wants to know. Ignorance is Bliss.

How come hardly anyone writes a Bio?

jaimieh: Iam very glad that they are monitoring your kidneys! Carbo is a heavy metal. It has a hard time leaving the body and seems to be especially hard on kidney. I am having problems with my liver which is from the taxotere. Please let us know how they are dealing with it. My guess is that they will back down a little on the amount they are giving you and give your system a chance to flush. Pound the water please. Did they put you on additional Steroids? Take care of your self.

Cupcake: Thank you for your kindness. Not good news about the sun as I have a convertible a pool and spend a lot of time at the beach. I am seeing a lot of big hats, long sleeves and SPF 1000.Tongue out

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayer for our family member loss. I pray that they find a cure everyday.

Thank you Myrockstar: I am getting kinda concerned as my fever is now 100 dog gone it. I do not want to go to the ER. I know that my counts have been good as far as wbc rbc and platelets sooo. I think it is just immune compromise chest cold. grrrr. Of course this has to happen when my king is out of town. I will drink another gallon of water and sleep. Love to you my sister. We will make it sorry for the wine. It just really hard sometimes. Chemo is not for pussy's. I am jealous of the people that just sail through it. Maybe it has to do with the amount of of Chemotoxins that the onc use or age. I do not know. I can't wait till this is just a memory.

Happy Birthday Lisa!!  I imagine right about now you are partying up a storm in a barn filled with horses and friends. I'm guessing that makes you very happy!

Bold- Do I EVER remember Marcus Welby MD! Of course, I don't remember that particular episode but I just loved that fatherly guy! And James Brolin too but not as much as Dr. Gannon on Medical Center! I used to lie in bed and pretend I was really sick and getting treated by Chad Everett! We are really giving our ages away now as I'm sure several of our sisters don't know what the heck we're talking about!  And Dr. Dante on GH? Didn't he have something to do with Jessie Brewer? The B and B wasn't the same as Ruby's Place (I dont' know who owns it now) that is still featured is it?  Anyway, fun stuff. You seem to have lead a pretty exciting life. I remember you mentioning 2nd city which had to be a total blast. I often watch comedy shows, esp. the old SNL's and even 30 Rock now and think that I want to work on a set like that in my next life. Not necessarily perform but anything else will do. I can't imagine a better life then laughing my butt off all day! Laughing is my favorite (well, almost) activity hands down!

I hope you feel better and that your man gets home asap. That alone should life your spirits no?

Lisa:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  It is a beautiful day here in Tampa.....sorry it is not that way over by you...but send it this way....we need the rain!  They just put us on harder water restrictions..no sprinker systems..only hand watering once a week!

Bold:  HANG IN THERE....better days are coming!!

That really sucks about the sun...I already use a high sunscreen, trying to fight this aging thing the best I can.  I usually use self tanners to give a bit of color.

I purchased another wig today...very long and sexy!  I have never been able to grow my hair longer than my shoulders so I am going to have fun while I have no hair!

Sorry for the whine session today.  I still have 3 more treatments :( to go.

Happy Birthday Lisa! I hope your party was a blast.

Bold. you can do it girl...you are just one behind me. It will be over soon so keep your eye on the prize. You have had a tough few weeks after #4. It was the same for me. You will be so glad to see your hubby tomorrow and after Monday you only have one more. You can do it!

I hope that everybody that has a cold etc. gets better soon. I think the pollen is making things worse as far as scratchy throat and really dry eyes. I am using an over the counter gel at night that seems to be really helping with the dryeye/blurry vision syndrome.

My brother and his girl friend came to dinner tonight and my daughter made really good Indian food. It was delicious It was fun to sit around the table talking about books, meditation, business, the economy ....everything but BC.

Thanks for the heads up about sun exposure as my husband has been dreaming about going to Bonaire after I finish rads. I think now that we should go to Iceland or somewhere like that where the sun doesn't shine as bright. I couldn't stand to be at the beach without being in the sun.I wonder if chemo is like the antibiotics that make you so sun sensitive that even sun screen can't protect you? Does anyone know about that?

We are eagerly awaiting college acceptance letters here at my house. They should be here by the 30th.She has been accepted at Colorado College and is super excited about that but still wants to hear from the other schools she applied to before deciding. I am so happy for her but will miss her so much next year. It has been great to have her home during the last few months. Denali, it sounds like your kids are really good to you and keep your chin up. That is what we all need.

Jaimieh, I don't know what you have tried for nausea besides compazine but I tried about everything and found that ativan works the best for me.

Duneoaks, that is so beautiful...it made me cry.

Majanumba1 is what my daughter has called me for years!

    love to you all,

I HAVE A QUESTION:  I buzzed off my hair a couple of weeks ago...but what is left on top is making my scalp sore (im not itchy and their are no red bumps)....I am thinking of shaving it....has anyone else shaved their head?  I wear a wig everday to work and I think that is what is rubbing the fine little hairs making them feel like needles poking me.

    Hi Smile-

I went through the same thing. Cut my hair in increments then to a long buzz. Still did not relieve the scalp pain and was falling out anyway. I then went to the all out buzz and it made a world of difference! No more pain and much more comfortable to wear the wig.

    Hope that helps.
