It is certainly okay for you to jump in here. seems like you are doing about the same tx as most here. some have taken just 4 TC but I took 6. You will find a lot of good information and people to help you with concerns or even just want to rant. I know it is not easy to get through but you will and be so glad you did. some of older ones do come back in and post and others read the site and when they feel needed will jump in. Of course your onc and nurses are the experts but sometimes the patients have found what will help them and may help you.

I would say welcome but I do wish no one ever had to be on a cancer site again but as long as they do this is a good one.

Thank you so much for all of your comments on acne. I know it should be the least of my worries, but it's hard to hide your face and all the cover up I'm using doesn't seem to work very well when I also keep wiping my nose from the constant drip. I read somewhere that the Herceptin is causing that. Oh, I can't wait for this to be over. But is it ever?

California Cloud - Beautiful posting. Thank you!

Cloud - your post touched my heart so much. I have been done Herceptin since April and feel a lot of pressure for it to be 'all done' now. Most of the time it is, but sometimes I still deal with emotional fallout from that time. You expressed it perfectly.

Michcon - I had a terrible full face breakout after my first chemo/H treatment. I was totally stunned and very upset by it. In fact my very FIRST post on this thread was a question about it. (I used to be shy about posting, lol).  I was very upset about it - and it took a week or so to go away. I called the onc and took some pix with my cell phone & emailed to the nurse so she could see. Finally they did call something in for me (some type of cream) but by that time it was going away so I never used it. But a cousin who has teenagers with problem skin said that what I wanted to do is STAY AWAY from the harsh cleansers (which is what I was using - trying to SCRUB it away), and use Cetaphil cleanser - very very gentle, and wash gently and pat dry.  I did that and got really good fast success.

Second treatment was about 20% breakout compared to the first one, and then never had it again. Who knows why it started and why it stopped happening.

    I hope this is helpful.

Hello, how is it going? I have a question. Last week I felt a lump very near where the other 3 tumors were. I wasn't to see the onc til Fri. so I went to family Dr. and she felt it and sent me for a ultra sound and it showed nothing. I did have onc. check it out when i saw her last Fri. and she said I need to have the surgeon check it out. I am going to wait til the last chemo Dec. 2nd to see him because he is an hour and a half away.  guess after I had the ultra sound results I wasn't worried but after seeing the onc. she seamed a little concerned. Do you even think it is possible for a tumor to start while your having treatment? That doesn't seam possible. But when you think about it why is it more likely to show up in the first 2-3 years after treatment then later down the road. Don't you think that should be the other way around, like you should be more protected in the 1st few years after tx? Idk seams strange to me and hopefully if it nothing. It sure does scare you to feel something else.

starella - haven't heard of that one.  I use promethazine.  Seems to work ok for nausea.  After chemo I take it regularly for a couple days.

starella - prochlorperazine is a old drug so I am surprised your onc dr prescribed it. There are better meds without major SEs, promethazine, Zofran, Emend are better meds.

I am on TCH x6 and then Herceptin every 3 weeks until I received 18 treatments, followed by 7-8 weeks of daily rads.

    Peace and laughter,

    Cheryl

michcon I did read somewhere that acne can be a SE of one of the chemo drugs so don't feel this is something strange.

Iowasue, I have heard of recurrence during herceptin, but not during chemo.  Did you have a lumpectomy?  Perhaps it's scar tissue or a fat necrosis?  I hope it's nothing, too.  If it were me, I would be heading out to see the surgeon as soon as possible, but I am a worrier.

As far as early recurrence versus later down the line, I think that's because if anything survived, it will start growing and materialize soon (esp. with her2+).  The further out you are, the more likely it is that you got everything.  That's just my understanding.  I could be wrong.

starella - Good, I am so glad your onc took you seriously!  I hope the medication works quickly. Speaking of jury duty - I got a note in the mail to come down to the department of motor vehicles to get my picture updated by the end of the year.  I am going to call them tomorrow to ask if they would like me to pose with my semi-bald head or in my wig (which is a completely different color than my hair) or if it would be best to reschedule until next year.!

Omaz - I'm not sure about the USA, but in Canada you can defer the pics for DL for medical reasons.

I did not ask but my hair was barely there when I had my license renewed. I can have mine redone but it is $22. and I do not want to pay for it. I don't get asked for mine very often anyway. I have seen some license with no picture from other states but I am pretty sure Oklahoma would not do this unless you were not in the state like military.I think every state has their own rules.

As for the steroids it does make your heart race and it makes you stay awake but you may need to take less steroids than most. some it does not take much but it is for reactions so I would not do without them but you might ask the onc if you can decrease the amount. I like steroids because it helps my arthritis. I get a high heart rate when my red blood count is too low. Have they checked yours lately? Ativan will make you very sleepy so don't drive taking it.

I'm having the attack of the nose zits, so glad to come here and see that is normal.  For those menitoning the probiotics, what is that and where do I get it.  Is it more for constipation or diarrhea or both?

All this talk about driver's licenses,  I just looked at mine, it expires at the end of the year and the current picture is about 10 years old! I will have to take a new one too, I will go to DMV in my wig and see what happens, it can't look worse than my current pic.

Elaine, probiotics work for many different stomach/intestinal problems. I take it just to make sure everything is working right. I gave probiotics to my daughters when they were infants because of acid reflux, so it works on different levels.  It can't hurt!

Elaineg: re Probiotics... I swore by them when I was on TC. Here's a link with some info...

    http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/herbsvitaminsad/a/Acidophilus.htm

The live bacteria are the best (comes refrigerated at the health food store). I also purchased some that don't need refergeration to use when I was traveling. Start taking them the day before TX and continue for at least a week.

Anyone having a tram flap or did anyone have one at the time of their mx?

elaineg I use a probiotic for constipation. It's a stool softener among other things. I used to order it online in powered form (not capsule). It's called NutraFlora from Pacwest but they went out of business. When I run out I will probably purchase it at The Vitamin Shoppe: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=VS-2152

I also recommend eating dried fruit like prunes or dried apricots for constipation. If all else fails Milk of Magnesia is the best (with little to no bloating).
