Thanks to ALL for the tips on icing during the infusion.  I sure hope it works for me like it has for so many of you.  I am going to have to pack all that stuff up tomorrow.  My husband is going to be with me tomorrow and he calls himself my "Pack Animal."  Poor guy, I think he's right, but he is amazingly supportive.  I was just bemoaning my upcoming loss of hair and saying what will I look like, and he answered, "You will look like Linda."  That was the best thing he could have said.  It means he still thinks I will just be myself!  I hope he is right.  Thanks for all of your tips and support.  Will probably be posting more later since I am sure these steroids (both the pre-chemo and the rest of the prednisone I have to take to kick the bronchitis) will keep me up tonight.  Take care and have a great Sunday!  Hugs to all...Linda

Linda - My husband went with me to all my chemos and he was and is so supportive.  He lugged the frozen pea cooler out of the car and wheeled it to the infusion room. Fed me ice chips while my hands were in the peas, brought me coffee afterwards when I was cold.  the rest of the time he read a book.  I had my infusions on Tuesday and kindof went missing until Sunday when I would start to return to life.  He said he could always tell when I was feeling better because I would start talking again.  Good luck tomorrow!

Am still trying to understand the icing procedure for fingers/toes. I plan to use frozen peas. Do you put the bags directly on the nails or do you lay some type of thin cloth over the area and then place the bag of peas on top? I am a visual learner so without visuals, I need really detailed procedural info. Manta, many thanks, Caryn

I put a bag of peas in the lunch bag folded over and put on a lightweight cotton glove from the drugstore and then stuck my hands in there so all the tips of my fingers got cold.  With my feet, I put a bag on the bottom, light cotton socks, stuck my foot in and put a smaller bag on top of my toes.  My feet got pretty cold so I would pull them out and check them occasionally.  I don't think you want them to get numb.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say good luck to those having TCH tomorrow.  Good luck, Linda and good luck, Yaya! Yaya, I so wish I was having my last tx tomorrow like you.  As it is now, I'll either have it Thanksgiving week or the week after! Grrrrrr....

Racerdeb, great news on the work being done with the vaccine.  I pray that there is one available for when my girls are old enough.  Keep us posted on what you learn in the upcoming conference.

    Hugs to all,

    Amelie

I iced my toes by taking off my shoe (usually a tennis shoe) putting the heel of my foot back in the heel of the shoe so toes were pointed slightly upward.  Had a thicker sock on and put a small bag of peas over the toes on each foot.  For fingers I put a sweatshirt in my lap and left the other two bags of peas in a plastic shopping bag on top of the sweatshirt.  Just put my hands in and dug my nails into the bags so I could easily take my right hand out and grab the cup of ice chips.  I brought the ice chips from home in a Tervis Tumbler cup.  The ice chips stayed frozen really well in the insulated cup.  The peas and cup of ice were transported in a soft sided cooler with frozen ice blocks.  I usually had extra ice chips so after I had warmed up I would use the leftover ice chips for a drink brought from home.  Also the onc office had a water cooler so I could keep putting water in my big cup instead of their tiny paper cups.  DH handled the cooler duty and would spend the rest of the time watching a movie downloaded on his ipad.

amelie, thank you!  i can't believe i'm done with chemo tomorrow!!  can it possibly be true?  i'm expecting that the only se will be extreme tiredness.  that's all i had with tx #5 and i actually had a fairly easy time of it for all the tx's.  i'm so extremely grateful.

i hope you have chemo the week after thanksgiving.  you won't enjoy thanksgiving much if you have that week.  you probably want to get it over with ... so i hope you have it exactly when you want.  let us know and i'll be thinking of you!

good luck to you, linda.  i hope you have an easy time tomorrow and that your s/s's are teeny tiny!

I remember the stuffing at Thanksgiving last year was bitter tasting. I didn't get my taste buds back till 2 days later. Looking forward to stuffing tasting good this year.

    dragonfly, thank you!

specialK, i've been close to tears for the past few hours because tomorrow is the end.  i'm actually somewhat proud, but mostly i'm just so grateful that i had minor s/e's and that i got through it all without much help from my family.  i kinda did it myself, except for you guys here and a few friends. i appreciate your support so much!

To all of you wonderul women...thanks for the encouragement you are sending my way for tomorrow.  I am not looking forward to it, but am trying to keep the positive thought that we are at least luckier than those who had our issues years before better treatment became available.  Not to be Pollyanna, but since I am Her+, I am thankful for the Herceptin that wasn't so available a few years ago.  I guess we all have to find the positives in this unwanted journey.  I have to say that it is wonderful to have this place to share.  As I can imagine for all of you, your family and friends are WONDERFUL, but having women who are or have gone through this craziness helps so much.  Thanks to all for the icing tips.  I am going to give it the best shot to avoid that issue.  I am praying for some sleep...flying on my broom from all the steroids.  Good luck to all who are at the start, same to those in other stages of their chemo...and to YaYa...you go girl!  Just can't wait to be where you are now. Enjoy the moment!  Hugs...Linda

    YaYa5,

Congratulations, and you're an inspiration to all of us.  You give us hope that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.  I look forward to the day when I can announce the end of my treatments and call myself a cancer survivor!

exbrnxgrl - I really believe in the icing.  You may encounter oncs and onc nurses that think it is a waste of time, but I am a better safe than sorry kind of girl!  I had one bad nail after icing every tx.  It was due to a high split from removing acrylics prior to treatment.  All of my other nails are beautiful.  No discoloration, no lifting, no ridges or lines.

nmoss1000 No I haven't seen the movie, I checked it on Netflix since I don't get HBO, but it isn't available yet.  I watched one movie on the making of Herceptin, that was good.
