Miss Moon...was it easy for you to get SS Disability?

chickD, I had to apply as a part of my long term disability at work. You are required to apply and if you get approved you have to turn the back payments over to the company. On the other hand the company that is hired by the job I had pays a third company to handle the applications. They only get paid if the government gives you the S'S disability. So they work hard to word things the right way, know what to ask, how to find out all the things that would make your case. It helped my case that my knees were so bad,but I can't get an op for them, I have diabetes and I have a pacemaker for a heart condition. ( yep I am a mess) so it wasn't only the cancer tx that they considered. I even got it without a rejection first. That doesn't happen often. But this company does this for a living and will take anyone so if you or someone you know needs this I can give you the name. It was good that they hired this company because when my company terminated me for too many days off this company continued to help with my application. Sorry if that was tmi.

Thanks Miss Moon....I also have LTD thru my employer and I had to apply for SSDI per their rules.  I hired a friend that only does SS work for the reconsideration.

Did not realize that if I get approved for SSDI I will have to pay back my LTD payments...that could hurt...ugh

chickD if you get approved they, S'SD, pay you for about 5 months back. You already got that from Ltd so you just give them the back stuf. It does leave you in a mess for the time between payback and the new month though. So you are not really paying them from your payments but from the one big makeup 5 months payment the S'S pays you. If that's not clear I'll try to explain in a pm.

I went in to have my port removed today. As soon as I got up to the desk to check in my eyes started watering like crazy. No, not because I was sad, but because the Taxo-tears just don't want to stop! The lady who checked me in thought I was upset about the procedure when I asked for a tissue. After some prep and paperwork, the port was taken out with just some local anesthesia and I was back home in 2 1/2 hours. So much less drama than having it put in. It was 51 weeks ago today that it was put in. So glad it is out!

For all of you who are still in active treatment, hang in there, I know it's hard at times, but there will be an end to it.

I am also having trouble with vision especially small print. I don't think it is consistent so I don't think its permanent, but it is scary given that I had permanent blindness in one eye when my optic nerv was damaged during my mastectomy with immediate recon this may.

Thanks everyone. The incision is really sore today, but totally doable.

ChickaD, I hope it's not permanent. Hopefully with a little more time it will improve.

Oh Soriya I am so sorry for this news. Is it definitely a NEW lump or just another one that they didn't see the first time? I don't know how (or if) they change your treatment protocol because of this development, but I am SURE someone on this site will have knowledge and insight to support you. Of course on THIS thread we will surround you with love and strength, but if you need to, put a post in one of the other threads and somebody who knows more, or has been through something similar will come along and share their knowledge and insight with you about this new development.

That is what is so wonderful about this place - there is always someone who can answer and help.

But please stay here with us as well, share what you are going through and let us love you. You are part of us now and we will gather round and help.

    In love and sisterhood

Soriya....so sorry to hear this but I do pray it will be benign.  Hugs and prayers for you!

for what it is worth, soriya, I had "multi-focal disease" - meaning that they found 2 lumps. They weren't sure until the surgery because imaging was inconclusive. My understanding is that it didn't change my course of treatment - it would have been the same if there had only been 1 lump.
