New Want To Play A Word Game

Me either, even though I dread seeing what kind of havoc the cat may have wreaked in the house while we were gone. No, I do him an injustice. He's a quiet fellow and probably there is nothing to clean up but a little shed hair. Who else has a pet?

Two furbabies here..Maverick (pictured) and his sister Molly....we rescued them from the dog pound...and they fill our hearts with love. Good your cat has manners and won't get into mischief...or if he did have an *accident* maybe it will have dried up before you get home!

No, that's my mom's cat. (I've been staying with my mom during treatment.) Mine is a real Caspar Milquetoast, but Mom's is much feistier! During the day she has the run of the house, but at night she is put in the laundry room. A little while ago we started finding a puddle on the floor in the morning. These incidents never occurred during the day, only overnight. I took a guess that pehaps she didn't like being shut up, didn't like being made to go downstairs when it wasn't her idea, and particularly didn't like being shut up when she could hear people (i.e. me) moving around upstairs. I think the thought going through her little cat brain was "Why do I have to go to bed before She goes to bed???" So the other night, we decided to try carrying her downstairs rather than trying to "herd" her, and that I would take her down when I go to bed, rather than when my mom goes to bed. She was really more my late father's cat than mom's, and he used to carry her down at night. Success! Two nights, no puddle! But last night I decided to take a mat out of her hair while watching the late news, and boy was that a mistake! She got all riled up and you guessed it, there was a puddle on the floor this morning. I've learned my lesson--no more extended hair-combing sessions after dinner from now on!

Awwww....cute story! Sounds like she misses your dad, too. Our furbabies live outside, but we have a big covered deck, with large *trampoline* beds that have dog beds on them. There are also 2 doghouses on the deck (which are rarely used). Since it will be raining a lot, I have their beds piled with towels. Much easier to wash the towels than the beds! And since we'll be gone, I have a large pile of fresh towels so my DD can change them out.

Field --- I can't on to the story as I don't have dogs!

At least you don't have a lot of pet toenails that need to be filed down!
(I know, I know, I just rearranged the letters!)

Had a puddle the night after the hair-combing incident, and I was afraid I was going to be fired by my first "client" as a Cat Behavior consultant--and you know you're bad if you get canned by your mom! Fortunately, kitty behaved last night and I think I have her number now!

One advantage of outside pets....I would get too tired if I had to clean up after them in the house!
0 -
I would let them in if it was raining (or snowing). But, only if they dried off their fur and paws.

I love our furbabies, they are our pride and joy (along with our kids and grandkids!).

I don't have any kids or grandkids, I'm an old maid. So naturally I have a cat, not a dog. My cat is a shaded silver Persian * with big green eyes and incredible quantities of hair.
Wahine, do your dogs like to go for rides in the car?
*that's not an actual photo of my cat, it's just to show the coloring.

(curve, that link didn't work for me, but I looked up the breed. Is that the kitty you dad loved?)
Wahine's dog is so smart, I think it drives the car!

no, the Persian is my fraidy cat. My dad's cat looks more like a Balinese: tall and slim, coloring like a Siamese cat, but long hair. Hey, zogo, did you notice you slipped a 6-letter word in there on us? Or maybe it wasn't you who did that. Maybe a virus has infected your computer. (I took the rives from drives, changed E to U, and rearranged). Maybe that's why the link didn't work for you--it works OK here. However, I added a space between the link and the asterisk. Does it work now?

Getting up too early ruins everything! Sorry about the slip-up with one too many letters. Not sure about the link...I did get the picture after manually loading the address (those kitties are adorable)...it has a "hotlink" at the end of the address that pops up the wrong page.
Wahine, did the link work for you correctly?

LOL, I bet Molly would love to drive the car sometimes....she is the adventurer and used to dig out under the fence to get out....would have to rescue her, covered in mud! But she is almost half the size of Maverick, so only dug a hole big enough for HER to get thru...leaving him in the yard! No, the link didn't work for me either.
We're still on vacay at the condo in GA with our g'dau, but the rains today, kept us from doing any day-trip. Hiked up to beautiful falls yesterday, but today just took her to the heated, indoor pool! Tomorrow we drive to Asheville (3 hrs).

it is trying to rain here, too--very seasonable weather for this part of the country. But at least we no longer get water in the basement. Last year and earlier this winter, if there was a heavy storm, water would leak in and sometimes make a big puddle on the floor of my mom's sewing room downstairs. It took several tries at a fix to discover exactly what the problem was, but eventually a drain was installed in the floor to catch the water and get it out of the house. That seems to have done the trick. Ain't old houses fun?!

Do you have a long rainy season, curve?

My grandparents lived in Tacoma for years (from HI) and my mom lived there a few yrs too. It rains a lot, but was more of a drizzle or very light rain. What my mom didn't like (coming from HI) were the overcast skies for a lot of the winter months. She likes the "sunny south"" as we do have mostly sunny days, but my dad is having a hard time getting used to temps below 75!

That's rght wahine. I say, it doesn't rain more here than other places, it just rains slower. Here, it's a big storm if we get an inch of rain in 24 hours. Our all-time record for rain is something like 5" in one day---some other parts of the country it can rain more that that in an hour when it gets going. It is cool and damp, and generally cloudy, even if not actually raining, for at least four or five months out of the year--Nov-Feb and often bits of October and March. I guess that is why gardeners here have a lot to contend with in the snail-and-slug department. It's just the sort of weather they like.
0 -
You can tell where they have been by the lines they leave.
Q:What do you do when 2 snails get in a fight?
A:Leave them to slug it out.
0 -
Yup, you can follow the snails by the lines and slime they leave behind. Love the snail joke, Jane!
0 -
@zogo >>>groan!!<<<
Fortunately all that slime they leave behind melts away in the rain. Otherwise, this whole town would be knee deep in slug-slime by the end of the winter. Now if only there was some way to stop them from eating holes in everything.
0 -
Well, it could be worse...you could have moles leaving holes.
0 -
...or a skunk in the crawlspace. Moles leaving holes would be bad, but at least they don't smell! That reminds me of another cat story. More than thirty years ago, when I lived in San Jose, our cat Misty started acting very strange one evening. He kept prowling back and forth in front of the sliding patio door and growling under his breath. We couldn't figure out at first what was upsetting him. When we finally pulled back the curtain a little to see what all the fuss was about, we caught just a glimpse of a strange "kitty" in the backyard...a black kitty with a white stripe down his back! Misty stayed securely inside the house for the rest of that evening!
0 -
Oh, curveball, that story made me smile and giggle....soooo glad you saw the skunk before letting Misty outside! Yikes!
0 -
Yes, it was a good thing we checked before letting him out.
But now I am stuck for a word that follows the pattern and has anything to to with cats or skunks or snails or slime or moles. So I'll just have to go for a complete non-sequitur. The word is liens, and I can't think of any way to wriggle the story line around onto that topic.

Don't stress, Curve, relax and have a slice of this wonderful warm pecan pie. Would you like it a la mode?
0 -
Pie alamode? No thanks. If I eat that, I might slide back into my old, unhealthy eating habits and re-gain all the weight I lost. But I do take a "day off" every month, when I can eat anything I want, whether it's in my eating plan or not. I'll have the pie then.
But it's kind of you to ask. Did you make it yourself or is it from your favorite bakery?
0 -
Yummmmmm.....would love some of that pie too! We just got back from our vacay last night, and with the weight I gained, I'll already need to run miles to try to get some of it off!

I think I should start running with you. I've been contemplating doing the C25K program. Maybe it would be easier if we found some males to run in front of us and keep us motivated.
