Thanks Trish and all.  Well I am just beside myself and totally pissed off.  if I have trouble getting past this tonight I'll take the Xanax but I am SO ANGRY they did this stupid thing and that caused me to go for the Xanax.  Proactive- tomorrow I am going to demand they retest me and while they are at it do the CYP2D6 test- why should I waste my time schlepping up to the cancer center and waiting for another careless worker to repeat the test for no gain?

I am REALLY pissed off.  I expected an email from my ONC telling me what's going on, not a stupid snail mail form that has no meaning.

Oh well, I am late for the poor kid, got to  get on the trainer.  Thanks for help ladies.

Gals, I am having a Tissue Expander put in my L side....I had mastectomy in Jan no recon....and I am having a simple mastectomy on my R side with immediate implant.  I just found out surgery will take approx 3 hours and I have to stay over night....yeeks.  I am nervous about losing my good boob but really feel like this is the best decision.  I too freak about recurrence....had a bad week last week...tumor markers up had to have CT and Bone scans which were clear.  Onc thinks it was the trial drug (Ibandronate) so I am off of it and the Tamox until after surgery.  I will post on my FB page next week from my Iphone...I can't access bc.org on the flipping phone.  See you there if you are on my friend list :)

Oh and I am hooking up this weekend with a March chemo friend who is coming in for business.  Can't wait to meet her.

    hugs

Good evening all.  Thanks for your thoughts.  I will be 50 in December and yes I am so used to going all day I am finding I have to slow down.  I actually am looking forward to "hibernating" for a bit this winter.  Can't wait for next week when I head out west.  I actually find flying to be relaxing maybe becasue I get to to nothing!!!

    The oil is interesting!!!

Kari  we are still getting tomatoes and peppers but may get a frost tonight.  Picked the little pumpkins and put them on the porch  for decoration.

Helena we will probably press some apple cider this weekend, lots of apples this year.

Top Chef is great we love it.  We watch Hell's Kitchen too but Top Chef is our favorite.

Does anyone get indigestion with Calcium and Vit D tablets?  I am taking them with meals but burp for about an hour afterwards, just wondering.

hey, Rachel, OK now, regarding the slight deficiency in albumin and "total prot" range - first, your numbers are just below the levels recommended, and keep in mind, as Helena mentioned, that the ranges can differ slightly from lab to lab. In fact, if you Google 'urnialysis' and get explanations for the terms, the ranges will differ from site to site as well.

The test for Vitamin D3 is called 25 (OH)D....I think....and sometimes there's a 1 placed before it (as mentioned in your report). The most perplexing phrase in your entire report might be that your Vitamin D test was "cancelled" because it was "accessioned in duplicate."  HUH?

**ETA: Sorry, realized you probaby had all bloodwork done, maybe no urnialysis, but the same applies regarding the ranges.

Rachel - I didn't realize how important D3 was until I looked it up and I looked it up after I saw it on the bottom of your page (thank you!). I was only taking a multi and now I've added in a separate 1000 mg of D3 a day.

I don't think any of the results pertain to D3 - all of them seem to be white/red cell counts. I think the D3 was cancelled - they probably didn't think it was a big deal and if that's the case I would beat the &&^%# out of the person responsible for the error (or at the very least get really snippy). As an aside, right b/f RADS a nurse told me I needed to talk a bloodtest and when I double checked with the doctor she said it wasn't necessary, that they could rely on my pre-op results. Idiot.

Your albumin and total protein are only very slightly out of range - it's probably tamox related even though you've only been on it for a couple of days. Maybe you took the pill too close (in time) to the test or your body is still adjusting - both are processed in the liver, so I'm guessing a connection.  And I agree, if there was any issue (big or small), you're onc would have said something pronto or it would have been detected during the pre-op blood draw. Just stay calm and get the doc on the phone tomorrow.  Everything is okay.

hey, PattiB, my middle name is Kaye, so I'm also Patty K (too much like Patticake, right?), PK, and PKB. Once in a while, Mrs. B, but that sounds too to me..... old, like Aunt Bea in Mayberry.

Well said J414 - I can't believe people can just decide to cancel doing a test.  I tried to change my prescription from 20mg tamoxifen tablets to 10mg tablets so I don't have to keep cutting them in half and I am not allowed to change the original prescription!!!!!!!!  So aren't rules rules???? ... but they can just go ahead and cancel a test.  Don't get it.  Getting tests done absolutely SUX we don't need to have the bloody things cancelled and redone.  Hugs my Rach.

I take vitamin D3 drops Carollyyn so no problem.  Sorry for your problems. :(

DIANE - what a horrible week - no wonder you were so quiet.  Huge relief the results are all clear.  Think you have had enough for a while hey!  Will keep in touch on FB.  Giving you big hugs in advance then will move on to side hugs and handshakes.  :)

Whew! Ok lots of posts to read...

Patty B--you should be the poster child for Avon if you are really sixty. And I need to go buy some...immediately! :)

Rachel-sorry about the test they left off. :( That is one you want to get...

Meg--good luck on the oomph!! Sorry it is your birthday "gift"...hope you do some proper celebrating afterward...

Diane--good luck on your surgery for your new "girls"!

Rachel Ray would be so happy to hear about the use of EVOO "down there"...sorry Helena--not meaning your fine country...

Love love love Top Chef and clearly need to go catch up. Have also been loving Entourage...and just started recording Mad Men.

I am still hoping I am going to the gym after this...I hope, I hope. I am a lazy thing but did just take doggie to the park so come minimal walking. Should go as had leftover pasta with veggies for lunch yesterday then pumpkin curry for dinner (on brown rice--more starch)--and just got my period so feeling soft and squishy (i.e. bloated)!! (Oh and had a lunch mtg today and had a grass-fed beef burger--oh my!) Which reminds me of Rachel's post about the Wizard of Oz and SFBC--"Rads and chemo and tamox--oh my!"  :)

Ok I have a question--when they do breast implants why do they put them behind the chest muscle? Is it b/c the tissue alone won't hold the implant? Always assumed that but wanted to ask. Am hoping it's a hypothetical question for me and that I don't need one down the road!

    Have a good night ladies!

Hi Allie, hope you don't ever need one down the road ...but, and this is only from my own observation, if my implant wasn't behind my muscle the skin would certainly sag and stretch.  I have thin skin and there is no breast tissue left at all (well maybe 1%).  I also just couldn't imagine running with them flopping around.  For breast augmentation they can do both over and under the muscle but they also have the benefit of breast tissue to hold the implant in place.

Just on the the Wizard of Oz ... I scare my children running after then going "come here my pretties"... gets them into bed quick fast.

Dansmom - there have been ladies come and go on this thread with foot cramps ... most seem to disappear over time.  Hope that happens for you too.

hi, Allie, and thanks for the compliment! I guess I could scan my birth certificate for you...Wink and feel free to buy all the Avon products you want (at my online store, of course -- LOL).

YES, I do believe the tissue expanders are placed beneath the chest wall for support. You would think since I have them I would know, but like you, have 'just assumed' that's why.

Here's a thought: Introducing Rachel Ray's new "EVOO Love Potion"

Yeah Diane, I can't get my iPhone to post on BC org either.  Will be GREAT meeting your friend, I have met a load of BC org gals now and they have all just rocked.  And it is just sooo nice being able to speak freely.  Good luck with surgery and I am sure you are doing the right thing :)

carollyn- yeah I watch HK too... its so strange after Top Chef, but I still like it :)

j414- on the Vitamin D3, its a U shaped thing, you have to have the "sweet spot" level of D3, so just taking supplements without checking first can be counter productive.  I have this whole thing organized and didn't take it for the summer because I was in the sun a lot anyway, and I was curious what the level would be at that time.  Well they screwed the pooch on my plan, and I am a LITTLE bit calmed down.  Remembering I am going to visit a friend getting her last chemo on Thursday, I am going to ask my ONC if he can arrange for me to have the test done at the other cancer center.  Its a lot about not disrupting my day and my life- I guess you all get that.  Like my Stage IVa  tonsil SFC friend said at lunch,  we get a clean test and we figure we got another 3 months and we're happy for a while... so they are cutting into my happy time here.  And of course when they can drop the ball on something like this it makes me lose confidence in everything else they do... but hey.. I know its just good ol' SFBC, the gift that just keeps on giving.

J414 and Helena, what ticks me off is that they just sent me this printout in the snail mail.  I think its his bitch phone answerer, she knows better.  He must have been busy or out that day and didn't see the results.  I am sure he would have emailed me or called to talk about them and not just sent them out, knowing I'd have this reaction.  It smells of malice.

Dansmom- yes someone was just posting about night leg cramps and I posted a link to the mayoclinic with some ideas to deal with them. Here it is again:

    Hi,

I just started Tamoxifen the last two weeks and I'm not sure what side effects are Tamoxifen and what is the lasting effects of chemo (finished in early September). My blood pressure (previously low) was a little elevated when I went to my primary dr, but also I was thinking about the BC and now my feet don't get cramps per se, but they are swollen and I can't fit into my heels very well (ones that previously were comfortable). I searched on this site and did find some people who had been on taxotere who had this symptom following, but has anyone had it on the tamoxifen? Is it possible in just 2 weeks this is an effect of it? Thanks.

    Thanks Val :)

No answer from ONC yet, well it's only 830am and I figure he must be somewhere out of town in the first place for this cock up to happen.  I thought of another way to get the test done, I need a flu shot anyway, so I added that to the possibilities and asked him.  I also asked him some stuff I had let go: about a rash I got in the elbow where they took the test- in the same arm they did the SNB, jerks.  And about scheduling my next appt with him on the same wednesday as I lined up all my other appts, mammo, gyno, GP because the scheduling desk said I could only see him on a Monday or a Friday, and I don't want to start zometa on a Friday because if I have any SEs, they'd happen on the weekend.  So currently I get to be terrified on Wedesday for mammo and re-terrified on Monday for zometa and him, and his circus of incompetents.

Lemonade from lemons... I heard back from my ONC but only to say that it was AOK to come in on the day I already have my other appts in January.Smile

Maybe he's looking into the missing test.  Meanwhile, I called my GP and asked if I can come in for the flu shot have have a vitamin D3 test while I am there.  Fine, I go Monday.  If my vitamin D3 tests turn up before then, at least I get the flu shot.

La la la... we can't just be passengers in our care, we have to drive the car... and me, I am planning to drive carefully and get home safely avoiding all the road hazards I can. :)

oh and I didn't end up taking the Xanax last night either.  I worked out twice and was so pooped I slept just fine :)

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if I can take Claritin D with Tamox.  I was just told last week by my onc that I can't take benadryl.  I've been taking benadryl for over 20 years.  I've been on Tamox for 3 months now -- I believe I will be looking for another onc if benadryl was on my list of medicines.  My DH told me not to jump to any conclusions, maybe I forgot to tell her.  I feel I get more information from my sisters on this site than my own onc.  If I can't, can you tell me what you're taking for allergies.  Zyrtec does nothing for me, claritin either, but I tried Claritin D to see.  Thanks guys.  Love you all.

Rach, I wish your onc would have got your message sooner about the D3 test not being done.  He could have called the lab and had them add it to your blood work...mine did that last year and it was a day after my blood draw!  I was soooo happy cause I HATE getting my blood taken cause they were having such trouble with my veins.  All your tests are the same ones I get each time..all through treatment in fact.  Glad you didn't have to take the Xanax.

Dansmom, last night as I was sitting cross legged watching TV, I felt a major foot cramp coming on!!!!!!! so I switched positions and rubbed it out.  That happens to me more often since on Tamox.

MillieD, I don't see anything anywhere about NOT being able to take Claritin D, I think you're A-OK!!

Carollynn - I watch Hell's Kitchen too!  I watch A LOT of stuff....so I was getting Bravo free for the month of Sept. and thought it would tape last night's Top Chef, but of course they ended the free month early.  I am having my older DD record it and I'll have to watch it at her house from here on out, but she didn't set it up to tape last night.  But they replay the old ones, right??

Helena, OMG, I used to run after my girls saying the SAME THING...come here..I'll get you my pretties!!  When my older DD was 2 that was her favorite movie, she used to watch the video over and over and she could say every word along with the characters..."I'm Dorothy Gail from Kansas"...it was soooo cute.

    Hugs to all

    Thanks Kfinnegan

donnamariem I was too taking two a night until I was told at my cancer support group that I shouldn't be taking benadryl.  I asked my onc and she told me to stop taking it immediately.  The tamox doesn't react as it should.  Guys please confirm.  I asked if my taking it for the last three months meant that i was taking the tamox for nothing and she said it was still early, but to stop it immediately.  This was over the phone so I would like to know also.

Diane, glad things turned out OK and hope everything continues to turn out be fine.

Rachel, regarding the lab results, the Na up to the Creat are all tests of your kidney function, then from Total bili up to Alt are all liver function tests.  And the 2nd part of that was a complete blood count, (red, white, platelets, etc.) along with looking at all the different types of White cells (lymphocytes, neutrophils, etc.) which would show if infection or inflammation was going on.  And as far as albumin and protein being slightly out of range, I see that all the time, and doctors don't even pay any attention to it, unless something else, like disease symptoms are  going on, that would make them need to look at everything really closely. And if a problem were going on, liver/and or kidney function tests would show noticeable variations as well.

I was taking 2 tylenol PM at night for months and then found out on this site that I shouldn't be taking benedryl w/Tamox.  My onc. never said a word to me about it although I had mentioned to her  I was having trouble sleeping and was taking them.  I also worry that I had missed some protection.  I wish that they put a warning label on the prescription bottle so we would all know not to mix the two.

My alien baby is definately gone.Wink  Helena - I was hoping for a girl too!!  But it is for the best that it is gone cause trying to get alien child support would have been a real bitch and visitation would have been a nightmare!

Rachel - sorry you are having such a hard time with your Vit D test.  It does remind me tho to ask my onc. next Wednesday about getting a D test done when I get my CA-125 test, etc.  Hope you get it all sorted it soon!

My ovary hurts now so I wonder if the cysts are growing or what.  I have never had cysts before that I know of so for those who said they have them is it OK for me to having pain? It is not too horrible - I just notice it now and then.  I had to use the heating pad last night to sleep and that helped.  Any suggestions?

Kookiesmom-so glad the alien baby is gone. :) LOL on child support! The next time you go in to the obgyn, have them chk your ovaries and tell them you've felt something in that area. I have a cyst and it is a pretty constant "presence" although not painful. Sometimes they can come and go in your normal cycle. But if you have one, you want to have them watch it.

Speaking of the little bugger, I know I had mentioned I was "off" flaxseeds b/c I noticed less activity down there when I wasn't eating it on my cereal in the morning. Well, I miss it so am trying it again. I just have a small spoonful so would be surprised if it was the cause of anything but I'll report back.
