Thanks val61 !!!  It's so good to hear from someone who has been on this for awhile!  And congratulations!  Thanks for this info!  It hasn't been two months yet for me....& I'm wondering if it is even working!  When I asked the Oncologist AND my Radiologist, they seemed to think that the "test" wouldn't prove anything, or do any good!   I have different "things" happen once in awhile, but don't know if it is the Tomoxifen...Like sometimes I "snap" back at DH....(and yeah, he deserves it sometimes) But everything else seems normal....sometimes my bones hurt, but not always....And it COULD have something to do with this darned COLD weather all the time!    I read about the side-effects from Femara, & I am still thankful I am taking the T pill for now!

How are you doing Mich_M ???  Hope you are doing Okay!  Okay girls!  Hang in there!

Thanks Val61 for your feedback one year out....very helpful and congrats on being 20% done!

Chebyboy ~ This is only day 2 but I'm doing quite fine, thanks for asking.

The package that I received for the SOFT trial includes the se's for tamox and aromasen by percentage of people likely to have these se's (ie. very likely, 21% or >, less likely, 5-20%, and rarely, less that 5%). If anyone wants me to post the list, let me know.

Hello future T-buddies.  I'm from the January 2010 group and I start my Tamoxifen tonight!  20mg tabs.  Val, since you are a pro at this, when do you find the best time to take it?  Morning or night?  Also, I have read about the libido and I can understand that...But what about if the libido...you know....ahem...works out, is there a big O to follow? Or is there trouble there to?

Mitch_M...glad to hear day 2 is a walk in the park.  I'm going to remain positive that the SE's will be at a minimum.  I've got my baby Aspirin to take along with it and I'm hoping that may help with the joint pain as well.

Scary stuff, but I'm thinking we've all been through worse so what's one more thing?  Thanks for the help on this board!

    Chevyboy:

We live in the Springs.  I am now at my "minimum" fill rate for my expander and have to decide next week if I want to do more or not.  I hate these decisions!  And YES I am so sick of the cold and snow!  I'm still not driving yet after surgery on 1/7 because of being on on meds but don't think I could start in the ice and snow anyway.  Best of luck to you!

    Kat:

I forgot to add that my oncologist started me by taking half of what he wants in the morning and half at night so my body can adjust to it slowly.  He said he will eventually get me taking it all at night so I can "sleep off" most of the side effects.  So far with the smaller dose it isn't too bad.  I get a couple of "hot flashes" but the crying jags in the day (especially at work) are the worse part.  I do wake up at night and uncover and then get cold and cover back up again later,  But that can happen with or without meds to anyone anyway!Smile

bcincolorado - My plastic surgeon told me that it didn't matter too much if he overfilled...the skin will accommodate the new implant just fine. It's not like you are making a firm decision (pardon the pun) that can't be changed. It will just sort of give you a general idea on size. Be glad you are to this point and know that the implant will be sooooo much more comforatble no matter what final size you choose.

katRNaain92- I think chemo tanked my libido. It was gone before the T came on board. My oncologist told me it basically fries your ovaries and so you are more like your mother or granmother now in menopause than anything else and just ask the average post meno woman what her O-life is like. I'm told by my mom that she would be okay with it once a year (if that.) reat. Thanks Mom.

too late bcincolorado...already took the whole 20mg last night before bed.  I woke up around 2:30 and I'm thinking to myself "why in the hell do my toe joints on my left foot hurting?  oh yeah...now I remember"  Back to sleep.  It wasn't horrible and I'm thinking that's how it will be...start at the feet and work it's way up.  My onc didn't say anything about splitting it up (sounds logical) and my tabs aren't scored.  If I have more intense problems, I'll call her and ask to give me some 10mg tabs to take twice a day until I'm used to it.  Thanks for the heads up!

Kory, since the chemo probably shriveled up your ovaries, I don't suppose the Tamoxifen would do the same thing?  I'm been trying to google research on that and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.  No chemo for me...just tamox...but if the ovaries don't shut down they want to take them out....I just struggling with the loss of so many female parts gone!  <sigh>

Morning girls!  About the Tamoxifen....Maybe it's just me, but I haven't had hardly any side effects yet from Tamoxifen...almost 2 months....I take the 20 m in the morning, with a low-dose aspirin.....& during the day I take 4 more vitamins....And I drink that Aloe Vera smoothie....And as far as the libido, it's actually better!  I know I am nuts, but it is....Although sometimes you have to help yourself along a little....But it is there!  And my Husband & I are 72...So there IS hope, Ha!

.I had a hysterectomy about a million years ago, but still have my ovaries, for whatever good that does!  A friend wrote here, that after she had chemo, she would have "mystery middle of the night" big "Os"...I believe ANYthing can happen during & after chemo!   I am one of the most fortunate ones that didn't have to have chemo....

I am so sick of this snow and COLD!  MAN!  We need a break!  It has snowed for at least 4 days here, & just stays cold & cloudy!  I'm a native of Denver, & I have never seen a winter like this before!   It is 16 degrees out right now....Okay, I'll quit complaining....Wink  My Daughter sent me a book-mark with this on it, & I just loved the poem...Hang in there girls....xoxoxo

Kat, I have been told that I can get injections to suppress the ovaries.  The are either Zoladex or Lupron...or to shut down the ovaries completely you can take Arimidex, Aromasin or Femara...There is good info on this site under hormone therapy..

I'm 44 year-old on tamoxifen for year and a half.  During first year, first months actually, I didn't experience any side effects and even lost a little weight.  About six months into it, I experienced the hot flashes my OC said I was so lucky to avoid.  Now, I am fighting the worst weight-gain.  Am restricting diet and staying active - can't quite resume more intensive exercise due to healing from recent third reconstructive surgery.  Am seriously bummed about physical appearance, now, for both reasons but read your posts because they lift me immeasurably.  Thanks.

    Hi Jennifer,

I am 5 months "in" and except for a few SEs and loss of weight, nothing too bad. Guess the hammer may yet fall. I am  now at our cabin and have a crappy head cold but when I was at home, a post-BC woman and I were walking about 8 miles once per week. We'd walk for about 4 (an hour or so) have coffee/lunch....and then walk back to the start. On other days, my husband and I would try and walk 50 min each day. One of my docs says that just brisk walking 30 min/day, six days/week will reduce recurrence of BC by 40-50%. That's a huge incentive for me. I know just the walking improved my mental (and physical) health.

The other thing that's encouraged here is using a pedometer, to count the steps you take each day. I was becoming quite addicted to mine but unfortunately, it didn't get packed ;-(

I plan to get back to some gym weight training stuff but the operative word seems to be 'plan.'

    Good luck

Wow!  Surprised to hear that some have lost weight on Tamox.  I have been taking the big "T" since September and I packed on 15 stinking, lousy pounds!  Now I am dieting and trying to move more ... (notice ... "trying")  I hate the extra weight.  It is not coming off easily.  = (

Thanks.  I was hopping to hear from others in my boat as well.  Makes me feel better to know it's not just me.

Btw, how does one incorporate the diagnosis information in the footer?

    Hello Tamoxiteam!

Just wanted to say hi! Things are still really busy around here! Hopefully in the next day or two I'll be able to write a more lengthy note and respond to some posts. Caroline, glad you got to the cabin safely, sorry about your cold! Jennifer, I'm having a hard time dumping some weight and I feel like if I just look at food I gain weight! Cry Anyhooooooo, I think I just need to increase my exercise...but we'll see. Smile

    Have a wonderful evening all!

    Hi All,

Just doing one of Susie's "Drive-Bys" to say HI.

We have a slight cat-ass-tro-fee here at the house.  We had 16" of ice build up on our roof and gutters and it leaked into the front bay window !!!!!!!!!

I don't think I've been this shook up since my diagnosis or when I was told I still had cancer after my lumpectomy and would need a mastectomy.  Close......  But health is the one that matters.

BONNIE ~ so sorry about your "cat-ass-tro-fee" 16" of ice is a lot!! What can be done about the bay window.  Is it between the two panes of glass? ((((hugs)))

    Hi Jennifer and Nancy!!

    I'm missing Susie and Harley!

My son is visiting, so I think I'm going to go out and play...rain or not!

MIL leaves Saturday, this 2 weeks has flown.  Is it me or does it seem that time has just sped up?

    Hugs,

    Kelly :)

    Bonnie,

That's absolutely crappy. (And here I thought this was a Canadian thing!!) We have had the same problem with ice back up and multi  leaks into a family room. The only thing my husband found helped was roof electric cords that he laid on top of the snow/ice. Next year, we'll put them up BEFORE the snow!!!  I think you can buy them at Home Depot....

Good luck with the mess and repair.

    Kelly,

Here I am...   I've been in and out, reading, but not enough time to post...  Have fun visiting with your son!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

This thread goes tooooooooooooo fast!  lol  I truly can't keep up.

But, how are all of the tamoxibeauties today?  It is cloudy here, but, the temps are in the high 30's, so not bad.  I just keep thinking Spring, Spring, Spring!  lol  It will be here before we know it.

My headache that one day was bad, but, good ole Excedrin took care of it.  I really need to buy stock in that company.  Don't you think?

I am so sorry for the problems that so many of you have.  They are awful I know.  I wish that by taking tamox, there would be no se's, just the good part of it helping in our fight with bc.  I don't know why research hasn't come further in helping us.  Ofcourse, finding a cure for bc would be the best choice!

Well, have to go...I just want to say hi and tell everyone to have a great day!

    Love, Susie ♥

Me too, Susie!  The tamoxitrain travels fast.  :)

I'm in my 3rd week of PMS type symptoms.  I thought about calling my ONC but what is she going to say?  Take an aspirin?  I think it's just my body getting used to tamox.

I caught the flu last weekend and our heater quit on us.  It's one thing after another around here. I'm wishing for spring now too.  ;)

It's so good to know y'all are here....we can complain and deal with T-troubles together!

Kat - I've taken my pill (20mg) in the am - along with calcium and some vitamins.  I am pretty religious about taking it at the same time, though not sure if that really matters.  I never tried it at night, but I know others have.  Since a lot of my issues occur at night (sleeplessness, hot flashes), I figured taking it at night might be worse....  As for the "big O" issues, for me, it happens, but not without a LOT of effort....and not very often.....sorry.....like someone (also on T) told me, "I'd rather paint the ceiling"........

Joyce - I notice a lot more hair in the sink after I blow it dry....and I swear my eyelashes fall out a lot, too......even my son commented that he keeps finding eyelashes in his food!

Jennifer - you can add the diagnosis from "My Home", then click edit diagnosis.  At the very bottom of that section, click "show my diagnosis...". Hope that helps.

One question:  I haven't had a period since my diagnosis when I stopped taking the pill (Dec."08).  Just wondering if anybody's gone this long without one on T and then it comes back.  I just hate the "not knowing" and always having to make sure I have a tampax with me..... (btw...I'm 48 now)

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for sharing your info about tamox se's...it's very helpful.

I just started taking T a few days ago....felt like crap yesterday (nausea and headache all day...and I never get headaches). But feeling good today, so hoping it was just a 24hr bug and not related to Tamox.

Just wondering has anyone experienced dizziness and light headedness on Tamox.

I'm 7 months in but just this past week have found that sometimes I'm a bit unsteady and kind of listing a little when I walk (not all the time just every now and then).

    Just wondering!!!
