Hi Ainm,
Yes, I have had some occassional lightheadedness. But it has been when I have been standing still, not walking.
Watching any of the Olympics? The GB ice dance couple, the Kerr brother and sister did really well, I thought.

Hi Ainm - I noticed I get dizzy if I lean over to pick something up and then stand back up - didn't have that before. I keep forgetting to bend at the knees so my head does not go upside down!
0 -
No lightheadness from the Tamox. Mostly just the joint pain and the occasional hot flashes. Sleeping is a problem but was before I started so can't blame it all on that. I am with all of you wishing for spring. We got 10 inches or so of snow Sunday night and I woke up with the flu. Feeling better now and looking forward to a trip to visit my daughter in Denver in three days.
0 -
Ainm, I've had dizziness. I first thought it was because of the heart condition I aquired while on chemo. Then one day I was looking over a list of SE's from Tamox and it listed dizziness. So, now I feel better knowing it's that and not my beat up heart.
0 -
Hey tamoxibeauties!
I never had dizziness. Well, not yet. I didn't realize it could be a sympton. Be sure and tell your gyno and/or oncologist about it if it keeps up. It could be something else. Best to be safe!
I think all of us are turning our thoughts to Spring. It will be here soon..right? lol
Well, goodnight everyone. I know I haven't been doing well to answer or reply to everyone. Just know that I read the posts, but, it does move so fast that I would be on here all night answering. And, hubby wouldn't like that. Or, would he? lol
Nite all!
Love, Susie

oh my goodness ... it's hard to keep up with you ladies! Southeastern New England (MA) is getting a cold, cold, RAIN. Thankful that it's not snow or ice. Catbird - 16" of ice is horrible. I can't imagine that!
Val - My last period (I thought) was the day of my lymph node dissection in April '09. Then had chemo, rads and started Tamox in September '09. In November ... SURPRISE! ... I had a whopper of a period. Haven't had one since.
As far as SE for me ... I think the worst thing has been the moodiness. Wow. Some days I cry at the drop of a hat. One thing that has been bothering me more and more is constipation. It makes me crazy! Anyone else???? Not sure if it's the tamox or perhaps the calcium and vit D supplements. No dizziness or lightheaded feeling, though.
We are all so different. But the one thing we share is love and compassion for each other. You can really feel it when you come to these boards. I am grateful to have all of you to chat with.
Warmly,
Nancy0 -
Hi Tamoxibeauties,
Thanks for the encouragement re my roof cat-ass-tro-phee. ) At least that is on its way to being taken care of I hope.
I do notice the SE's for the Big T do seem to revisit. You'll be bothered by one and think its left you and a month or so later it's Hello again. Must just be how it effects our system. I don't think the powers to be even know for sure.
Love your kitty SusieQ I know this board moves fast. It is the most active one of all and at times hard to follow if you can't get on quite often.

John Hopkins Update - Good article
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKIN S IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2 . Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3 When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors..
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will stren gthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs..
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10.. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Cast le Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc..., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper.. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.

I have a feeling this may have been asked and answered, but I didn't have time to read thru all the postings. I've been on Tamox since October 2009 and have noticed leg cramping, particularly at night, and almost always in my calves. Anyone else have that? I've also gained weight since starting it...probably 10-15 lbs. Ugh. I don't get headaches or dizziness, but have noticed eye watering...not sure if that is a SE or not...and I definitely have knee/joint pain intermittently.

ReginaR, that is an old hoax email. I wish cancer treatment was that simple. I'm going to try to add a couple of links about it but I'm not sure I know how do it correctly- you could always cut & paste. http://www.snopes.com/medical/disease/cancerupdate.asp and one from Johns Hopkins http://www.hopkinskimmelcancercenter.org/index.cfm/cID/1684/mpage/item.cfm/itemID/1016
Sorry about your headache! Feel better! -Tamara

Susu,
Leg cramps, especially at night seem to be common for a number of us. I also have occasional foot cramps in the long arch. The only other time I had such cramps was when I was pregnant. Some people have found extra calcium helps. Others have found an unwrapped bar of soap at the bottom of the bed at night helps (don't ask - there is a plausible reason if you google it ). I have had the opposite with my eyes - dry eyes on occasion.
EVERYONE - have a great mid-week day!

Chinese Folk Remedy Fights Breast cancer!
Odd Vegetable Kills Breast Cancer Cells
PrintEmail MoreGetty Images
By Marrecca FioreA vegetable used in Chinese and Indian medicine to treat diabetes may also destroy breast cancer cells, according to a study published in the March 1 issue of "Cancer Research," a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
Lead researcher Ratna Ray, Ph.D., a professor in the department of pathology at Saint Louis University, uses bitter melon in her stir fries but was surprised to find the vegetable's extract also appears to "kill" breast cancer cells and prevent them from multiplying.
"To our knowledge, this is the first report describing the effect of bitter melon extract on cancer cells," Ray said in a statement. "Our result was encouraging. We have shown that bitter melon extract significantly induced death in breast cancer cells and decreased their growth and spread."
Bitter melon gets its name because it's among the most bitter of all vegetables, although it's also called African cucumber, balsam pear and bitter gourd. It is widely grown and used in India, Southeast Asia, China, Africa, and the Caribbean. It resembles a shriveled cucumber or gourd and the texture of the vegetable is described as being similar to both a cucumber and bell pepper. It's high in fiber and vitamin C. It also contains the B vitamins, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin and B6, as well as magnesium, potassium and zinc.
In the East, bitter melon is often used in stir fries, soups, and stews, as well as for pickling.
In the U.S., bitter melon can purchased at specialty grocery stores, especially Asian and Indian grocers.
Ray told AOL Health she purchases the vegetable in either Asian or Indian grocery stores and cautioned that the taste may take some getting used to.
It's very bitter," she joked. "I don't mind because I like the taste, but some people might need to get used to it."
Supplements have become very popular with Americans due to the vegetable's widely touted blood sugar benefits and can be purchased in both health food and health supplement stores such as GNC, as well as in drugstores. It can also be purchased as a tea. To date, Ray's research has not included the use of supplements and teas."We've only used the extract straight from the vegetable," she said.
Ray decided to test bitter melon's ability to fight breast cancer because it has been used for diabetes management and to lower cholesterol, .
She used human breast cancer cells in a controlled laboratory setting to conduct her experiments. She said the next step would be to test the extract in animals, which she plans to do within the next several months.
"Cancer prevention by the use of naturally occurring dietary substances is considered a practical approach to reduce the ever-increasing incidence of cancer. Studying a high-risk breast cancer population where bitter melon is taken as a dietary product will be an important area of future research," Ray said.
Ray said bitter melon will probably not prove to be a miracle drug as women in places such as Asia where the vegetable is widely eaten still get breast cancer.
In the meantime, she said eating bitter melon does have many health benefits and certainly wouldn't harm anyone who wants to start adding it to their diets.

Val61: congrats on finihing your first year.
I've been on Tamox for 7 months, biggest side effect is night sweats resulting in restless sleeps besides the thickening of my uterine lining that I had to have a D&C. Hearing that you have to have any kind of surgical procedure is always unnerving but thte whole procedure was easy & uneventful. And of course, biopsy was B9.

Hello tamoxibeauties! I wish that someday I would log on here and we would all say...Hey, I am done with tamox and I feel great! That day will happen..for all of us! ( counting the years lol )
Kelly, about hubby going back to work...I miss him, but, I couldn't do anything except entertain him. lol He is so needy..geesh. lol Actually, I love having him home with me, but, I just can't do my normal routine. But, that is ok. lol My headache that one day was horrible. Just like when I first started tamox, but, just had small ones since, and, not everyday. Thank goodness! I love the "Susie driveby". But sometimes, there is just so much posted that it would take all day just to reply to everyone. I try to read all of them..just can't answer. Sorryyyyyyy How you doing Kelly? Good?
Bonnie, I must have missed the roof cat azz trophee. Sorry...what happened? Or, is it too late to explain? How is your doggie doing? Ok now? It is cold here, but, the sun is out and the snow is melting. We lucked out on some bad storms that went thru. ( breathing a sigh of relief )
Blondie45, glad you liked the cat pic. I try to post one every now and then to give everyone a smile. Glad it gave you one! Wishing you good luck on tamox!
Ok, gotta go ladies! Have a great day!
Love, Susie

Hi guys!
Kelly, I caught a killer cold and our heater quit the other day... ugh! I don't want any more snow until the heater is fixed. Everybody please cross your fingers for that to happen this weekend.
Susie, you're like a ray of sunshine.
Today my hip joints are sore. That's never happened to me before so I'm going to blame the Tamox. It kind of feels like I've been sitting cross-legged too long. My knees are acting up too but I've had that on and off for a long time. I don't feel crampy anymore, probably because I'm taking Tylenol for my cold. Ugh, I feel like I'm turning into an old lady! >:P
0 -
Oh, does anybody know if exercise like walking can help with the hip pain or will it make it worse?
0 -
Hi kc165 ~ slight nausea yesterday but it didn't last long and no more headaches, so feeling pretty d**n good, thanks for asking
Sparrow ~ fingers crossed that your weather improves and you won't need a heater. Don't know about the hip pain, but I guess there's no harm in walking or some other form of exercise to see if it improves or worsens...you'll be your best judge.
Regina ~ sucks that you've had drains in for sooo long. Hoping you get good news on Monday.
Hope all you ladies are having nice evening.

sparrow---I took tamox for 5 years, now I take Evista which is very similar. I find that exercise does help with the achiness. I don't like to do it, but I force myself, and I generally feel better for having worked out.

Hello my friends
Another wild weather night ... this is some crazy weather on the east coast. Thank goodness we've skirted the snow. But it was so windy and rainy last night ... lost power for a while.
Bonnie - How is your window situation? Thought about you last night as the wind and rain pounded against my bay window.
Sparrow - So sorry you have a bad cold. Hope it makes a short appearance.
Regina - You have had quite an ordeal with those drains. = ( Sending you hugs and hoping that is resolved for you soon.
Susie09 - You always make me smile ...
Val - My eyelashes and eyebrows have fallen completely out three times! It seems to be a cyclical thing. I've become an expert with the brow pencil!
And to all of my other friends ... wishing you all a peaceful weekend! Bring on the sunshine!
Love,
Nancy0 -
Bonnie- thinking about you and your window too! House problems are the worst!
Regina, sorry you have to spend another weekend with the drains- ugh!
My DH went all over town last night looking for space heaters. They have been sold out for months here. Luckily we have a borrowed one. As long as we stay in one room and close the door it's tolerable. You can see your breath in the rest of the house even in the daytime.
My cold is a little better every day. I walked to the corner store for kleenex today- about a mile round-trip and walked slooooowly because of the hip pain. I was actually laughing at myself, it was so weird!!! I'm too young to be an old lady!!! I do understand them a lot better now, though. I think I'll call my mom so we can compare aches and pains.
0 -
SPARROW ~ You had me chuckling! Not over your hip pain (that's yucky), but over your comment about calling your mom to compare aches and pains .
My DH commented this morning what a comfort and support it must be to be in touch with women who know exactly what I am going through! So, my Tamoxifriends I just want you all to know that I appreciate you so much! Thanks for always being there! You are a wonderful group of fellow warriors!!
Hugs to all
Kelly

kcl65 - you're right - that's why we're all here!!
sparrow - oh, the joys of living in the south with crazy northern weather! I'm over in Texas, and we got a whopper of a snowstorm (12/1/2"!) a couple of weeks ago....the world shut down....and our power, with it (two looooong days).....thank goodness we live in an old house that DID have one of those old gas space heaters....think warm thoughts!
Thanks ladies.....guess I'll keep carrying that tampax with me....just in case.....and some false eyelashes for good measure, too!
Sending y'all joint-pain-free hugs!

BOO to persistent drains, recurring falling eyelashes, hip aches, lurking periods, yo-yo weight, head colds and winter cold. BOO BOO BOO
Here's to spring (we do have flowers blooming but it is v chilly and pouring rain) and minimal SEs. YES YES YES
Take care everyone. I'll be doubly thinking about my T friends to the south if Canada plays USA in the Olympics gold hockey game on |Sunday ;-)
Happy warmer weekend to us all!
C
OH yes, our Safeway brown paper bag had a blurb "be part of the cure" and gave a web site for breast cancer trials - in case anyone is interested.

Sparrow, hoping that your cold gets better and that you can stay warm. Did you get a lot of new snow? I thought the NE was suppose to get dumped on again.
Kelly, giving you big hugs back! This board of tamoxibeauties is amazing..all of you! So, everyone take a bow! ( applauding )
Bonnie, everything ok?
Well, it is late and I am tired and I hear hubby upstairs wandering around. lol I better see if he is walking in his sleep or maybeeeeeeeeeeee...doing some cleaning for me. Ok, that even gave me a belly laugh!
Have a great weekend!
Love, Susie ♥
