Horsedoc ~ love the riding picture !  You go girl.  Horses are such beautiful animals.  Love them.

DiDel pretty funny about your monkey arm dream ~~  :)

I have been having lower back pain for a few weeks.... called my ONC ~ I am off Tamoxifen for 2 weeks to see if it subsides and they are ordering a bone scan.  So now I worry like heck....and wait ~~~

    Have a good day all.

Alicia, I have my fingers crossed that it's just the tamox!

I haven't been here in a while because I haven't had problems with tamox after the first few months, just some occasional hip joint discomfort, usually not bad enough to even take advil.  This morning I woke up with such severe hip joint pain I could hardly get out of bed.  This is the first time that's happened and I'm a little freaked out by it.  I have some 800mg ibuprofen that my gyn prescribed for cramps but it's only helping a little bit.

I went to a rock show last night with DH.  We were standing for about 2 hours.  I'm wondering if that's what did it.  I've been going to these shows for years and it's never bothered me to stand for so long before.  Gee!  :(

On a happier note, I had my 1st post-treatment mammo in July and they said everything looked fine and to come back in 6 months.  :)

bcamnb and sparrow - congrats on normal mammos!!  Yay!!

welcome to the new folks who've dropped in.  LOL about the "cycling" confusion!!

Sorry to hear about the joint & back pain issues...wish I could add something.  The only thing I can think of is that if one painreliever doesn't work great, try switching.  My PS specifically recommended Aleve instead of Advil for my post-vicodin period after surgeries and indeed it worked better for me.  Just a thought...

Not much to add from me, just wanted to say hi!  Have a good weekend everyone!

    Hi All!

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi!

Michele did you sort out your "itch" problem?  I've been good down there nothing other than a bit of green discharge down there in the very beginning but nothing since.

I thought that was it for Tamox related "down under" problems until I woke up today with a bit of an itch myself.  Not sure what to make of it but it could be "hair" related as the nether region hair came in a bit strange - think of zz top beards and you'll get the picture - so I took the weed whacker (scissors) to it last weekend.

Anyone else falling and feeling clumsy?  I've fallen twice in the last few weeks and it's just been over my own 2 feet!

I also have that 'itch' now, although I've only started tamox last Tuesday.  Could the s/e start up that quickly do you think?  I was also very fatigued yesterday, slept almost all day.  Just wondering how much is tamox related.

IsThisForReal - yep.....could be the tamox.....my SE's started the first week.  Luckily, for many of us, they eventually sort of even out.....or maybe we just get used to them....  Hang in there!

Thanks Val.  I am now praying they even out because I'm turning into Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde also. Oh the fun of taking tamox.

IsThisForRe......I think whatever side effects you are having now, will probably go away within a couple weeks!  I find that they don't hang around very long, at least with me.  I have been on the T pill since Jan.  I don't get the mood swings either...I was waiting for them, but they didn't come!

Are you taking the vitamins with your Tamoxifen?  I found this article also....about Tamoxifen being a chemo drug.... http://www.chemocare.com/bio/tamoxifen.asp   Maybe the vitamins would  help "balance" out your system.   Hang in there kids!  It's gotta get better!  Wink

Chevyboy - thanks for the encouragment.  I'll keep an eye on those s/e and am hoping I will be like you and they won't hang around for long.  I am taking some vitamins yes - multi, calcium, omega 3, COQ10, and D3.  I'm off to read the article on the link you provided.  And your right - it's gotta get better!  :-)

    Didel:  Funny dream!

Marie:  I do feel clumsy but I've always been that way a bit anyway.  I think some of it is worse now after my dx there was the start of sleep deprevation from worry, pain from surgeries, now tamox waking me up at night.  Less sleep = more bumps and trips.

IsThisForReal - I know what you mean.  I was SO ultra conscious of my every word and action at first....afraid that I might turn into some crazy woman.  I just kept asking my DH to please tell me if I turned into a royal "B!"   Luckily, it didn't really happen......well, most days, anyway.....

Morning Girls!   Do any of you ever sleep through the night without "dreaming" or thinking constantly?    It's like my little mind is always busy just tinkering along, & not shutting off!   I tried the Melatonin....nearly did me in......So I am just trying to figure out if this is the "new normal."

It isn't that I don't sleep....I am just always dreaming & listening to some tune that is stuck in my head!  I would just like to sleep nights, without my brain being tangled up in some situation, Ha!

Good Morning Chevyboy - I take zopiclone at night for sleep.  It seems to shut the mind down long enough to get to sleep, otherwise,  I'd be wide awake all night.  Have you tried valarian to sleep?

A question for those of you who've been through a year of Tamoxifen, do the hot flashes ease up at all in the cooler weather? These days I seem to be sporting a red, sweaty face most of the time but I can use the hot weather as an excuse. I can also dress in lightweight clothing. I'm wondering will things get better or worse as the weather cools down.

MaryNY - For me the hot flashes seem to come and go.  Doesn't seem to make a difference what the weather is like.  They were worse when I first started and are a little better now.

I had horrid night sweats all through chemo. Then things seemed to get a little better when I started Tamoxifen. I stopped waking up so much at night and I was describing what I had as warm flashes. A wave of warmness would pass over me and then be gone in a couple of minutes. But these days I just seem to be so much worse.

Chevyboy I haven't slept through the night since November 12,2009. When my mind is really racing I take 1/2 Ativan. Lately I've been taking Melatonin to help me get to sleep but I still don't make it through the night. I would say I wake up almost every hour. I am hoping after my exchange surgery next month I will sleep more comfortably...I hope.Undecided

Mary I am with you on the warm flashes. My doc asked me if I was having hot flashes (my period stopped at my third chemo treatment and hasn't returned yet) I said I wasn't sure about the hot flashes since its been 100 degrees for the last month. He said if I wasn't sure then I wasn't having hot flashes. I definitely have moments where I get very flush but not too sweaty and it doesn't last but a moment, like a wave coming over me.

    Have a good night everyone!!!

Morning Girls, and THANKS!  I wrote down all the suggestions....  I just have the most bizzare dreams, that go on for eternity, it seems!  Undecided   and Diane, I took Melatonin for about a month, but had to quit, because of in MY case,  the diahrreah!  After I quit the Melatonin, it all stopped!  Man, if it isn't ONE thing, it is another.....

And same here....I don't get "hot flashes"....I just get like "warm"  So I stand in front of the swamp cooler a minute, shirt raised, & fanning myself! Wink

It is only 59 degrees here right now.... in Denver!  And so beautiful!  But the heat "is a comin!"

Thanks for your help again gals! xoxoxoxoxo

I have been taking Tamoxifen for about 3 months now and just recently have noticed not being able to focus like I use to....  Ex:  Conversating with someone and then in the middle of the conversation forgetting what we were just talking about??????  Has anyone else experienced this?  I am only 44 years old- so I don't believe it has anything to do with age.....

About the warmness but not really hot....I call them warm waves. Had a couple overnight.   A friend of mine, when she got hot flashes, would announce "suddenly summer!"  Hee-hee.

I have the warm flashes too.  I call them that because I know what hot flashes are.  I had them two years ago.  Keeping my fingers crossed they just stay as warm flashes.  I have now been on tamoxifen one month.  uggg 59 more to go.

    Michelle-

I did have some dizzy spells when I first started Tamoxifen, but I wasn't sure if it was the Tamoxifen or residual effects of my radiation treatment. At any rate, they are gone now. I've been on Tamoxifen since early April.

precioustime:   I have experienced "forgetting the next word in my sentence" but it does seem to be improving. I wasn't sure if it was from the tamox (I started taking it in Oct09) or if it was from so many surgeries/anesthesia over the last year. At least it does seem to be getting better! I've always considered my "heat waves" to be more like warm flushes than what I would imagine a true hot flash to be like. I never have had dizziness though. Michelle, is your blood pressure ok?

    TCK

(50 months to go if I stay on tamox for 5 years and only 14 months to go if I switch to an AI after 2 years)

    Michelle -

I also had a dizzy spell or two and chalked them up to the tamoxifen, but haven't had any since. I've been on it since the beginning of May.

I am dizzy most of the time...and my BP is great.  My gp says I have less than 1% chance of a heart attack.

chevyboy:  I do have the dreaming issues with bizzare dreams, and not being able to "turn off" the brain at times.  Of course the dreams make you wake up....or maybe it is the hot flashes?  Either way, I just want to sleep all night long.  Just one night!

precioustime:  My memory and conversational skills are definitely "lacking" at times since all this started.  I don't know if is tamoxifen causing it or lack of sleep and tiredness though.  Sometimes I can't think of a word and struggle with it.  It can be embarrassing at work, that is for sure.

cs7777:  I love the "suddenly summer" reference.  I might start using that, especially when it is cold and snowy this winter!

A week off of tamoxifen ~ and I FEEL freaking GREAT!!!  Just got good results on my bone scan thank the lord.  Onc told me to give the tamoxifen another week off ~ then go back on and hopefully I will not have back and knee pain again.  It was unbearable.  So till next Tuesday no little white pill.  I will be back on the TAMOXITRAIN next week.

    :)

Have a good night all !
