Tomorrow I will begin my 3rd year on Tamoxifen!

mstrouble - CVS has changed brands on me once or twice but I always had enough Mylan leftover (from surgery breaks) to get by until they got more Mylan.  Now I want to try the Watson because I've been hearing Tamoxifen can cause blurry vision and my eyes are blurry.  I've always had perfect vision so I went to the opthamologist and he said I was just getting old.  Also, he was not concerned whatsoever about vision changes with Tamoxifen while other opthamologists have their patients on Tamoxifen come by every 6 months because they are concerned.  I will be going to a new eye doctor next time!

I think the Mylan brand is getting harder and harder to keep in stock, but I don't know why. I have been going to great lengths to make sure I kept taking Mylan but now I'm beginning to think taking a different brand might be worth a try.  I guess we don't know until we try, but they do say hot flashes are a good thing - research has shown better outcomes for women who have hot flashes while on these drugs.

Hope you ladies have a Happy New Year and good health for 2013!

Here in the south we eat collard greens and black-eyed peas for wealth and health!  Not sure if it works or not but afraid not to.... Undecided

Hipline - I am on the Teva brand too.  My pharmacy switched to different generic brand (don't remember which one) once and it did not agree with me, so my MO wrote the prescription for the generic but she specified the Teva brand.  Also, I was taking it at bedtime originally.  I took a 2 week break and noticed I was sleeping so much better.  So when I started back up I take it in the morning now, and it helped a little.  But I finally sucked it up and got a prescription for Ambien, which gives me about 5 good hours of sleep, maybe 6.  I guess it's all I can hope for.  Not sleeping catches up with me pretty quick.

Happy new year to all!  Debbie

heartnsould - On Jan 5th, I will be starting my 3rd year on Tamoxifen.  I'm not sure what to think of this new study out that says Tamox should be taken for 10 years.  My MO did not have a lot to say other than it decreases mortality rate by 3%.  I don't think that is a big enough number to continue for another 5 years.  MO and I have agreed to take it one year at a time.  What he does not know is that I am taking my last pill on Jan 5, 2016.

Have A Happy and Healthy New Year all you Tammy girls.  Be safe tonight if you are going out on the roads.

That made me laugh out loud, Jo! I see my MO in a few weeks and I'll see what she says about it, but I was planning on taking my last pill New Year's Eve 2015!

I think I'll make my New Year's resolutions now. I always think about them but tonight I'm going to write them down and display them prominently... see if that works...

heartnsoul - I don't make resolutions.  I usually set myself up for failure if I do.  I will evaluate things as I go along.  This is the start of a good year for alll of us.  The last 2 have sucked for me and I am going to use 2013 as a turning point.

Jo, I sure hope 2013 is a better year for all of us, too! I have just about had it with the last 2.5 years! The only New Year's resolution I made is to write down each day at the end of the day my moments of grace, laughter, or joy, or anything positive that happened that day and put that little slip of paper in my crystal biscuit (cookie) jar. DH suggested this as I tend to focus on all the crap every day and forget the good stuff. I think most of us remember the bad stuff more easily than the good, so I liked his idea. I have said there are no good days, and then there are worse days, but there ARE GOOD MOMENTS EVERY DAY, so I am going to capture those and when I am feeling particularly bad I can pull out those little slips of paper to remind myself of the good moments, moments of love shared, etc.

I have another biopsy tomorrow - please feel free to jump in my pockets - I could use some company.

Something that just amuses me and makes me laugh is the Verizon commercial where the kid is taking photos of snowmen on his phone camera - I just LOVE the dragon snowman with the red tongue or flame flickering out of his mouth, powered by a little fan apparently. Cracks me up every time I see it. I miss the snow some days.

Linda - Of course I will be in your pocket.  Just let me know what time to be there.  I don't take up much room so they don't have to be big.  Keeping fingers crossed for B9 results.  We do have to capture those good moments and good days.  They are priceless.  I think we will see more and more of those as time goes on.  (((HUGS)))

Well, most of you were quite well-behaved yesterday! The procedure went well, although the radiologist said it was a little challenging because of the orientation of the lump and blood vessels lying close by. Results are back already (amazingly fast): malignant. Ugh. Well, I have an appointment with a new MO next week - I was getting ready to change MOs anyway, so I guess this is as good a time as any to see what options are available. *sigh*

I had a great time today taking a batik class. I have never done that before and had a blast. My painting turned out not half bad considering it was a first attempt.

Have a great weekend, ladies, and I will tag up with you next week. Hugs, and thanks for all your support.

Linda, know what an up and down journey you have been on.  Hope your bad news is as good as it can be and your new MO is able to give you some clear direction.  Happy to be in your pocket for that visit too.  Thinking of you.

Linda I just hate this for you what a crapy way to start the new year.  I'll be praying for you and keep us posted.

Had my MO appt and my zometa treatment yesterday. I had CT scans on Monday and they were all clear so I finally goet to move to 6 month appts, woohoo!!!  He will follow up on my pancreas levels which are out of wack in a month and thinks I may be able to get off the meds if I behave.  He thinks my reconstruction looks great.  I laugh because he is such a nerd but I love him for a MO.

I also asked my MO about the 10 year tamoxifen study. That has been a hot topic since the San Antonio Breast Symposium in December. He said that it has not been published in the medical journal yet. He said it is finished and was presented in San Antonio but only bits and pieces are coming out. It  takes 1-2 years for it to be published with all the details. He thinks it is a great drug with Lot's of added benefits if it can be tolerated. He said for years he has treated young pre menopausal node positive women with 10 years of tamox. He has always felt it gave added benefit to the really young. He would not commit to what he will want for me when my 5 years is up but will probably want an additional 5 years of something. Depending on this study he will decided on tamox or AI but as he said that is three years from now and research changes everyday.  He is always full of information just wanted to share with you ladies.

    Hi Ladies,

This thread moves so incrediably fast I can never keep up with it! I wanted to ask if any of you are having memory problems on Tamoxifen. Going on my third year and noticing I can't recall words and have to stop in the middle of sentences to find words I am looking for. There was something else I was going to ask, but I forgot!!

sweetie - Around here you just have to jump in and ask your questions.  We will stop whatever we are doing and answer.  I have been on Tamox for 2 years and yes, I do notice the memory problems.  I can't seem to remember little details like I did at one time.  I also have to stop in the middle of a sentence and think about what I wanted to say.  It is so frustrating.

Haven't posted for a while...but your question, sweetie, is so relevant.

I have always enjoyed a really strong memory (even tho I am well into my sixties) both short and long term....not so much anymore after a year on Tamoxifen. I was horrified at first when I could no longer retrieve names of people, places, etc., and now I feel like I've just joined the rest of my peers....tho it is a loss. Just another thing I hate about tamoxifen....I'm sure this does not reverse itself when we stop taking it, but who knows?

I've always had a good memory until I started Tamoxifen.  Now I not only forget the names of people I've known for years and see regularly but I forget what I'm doing between one step and the next.  So far I can pause, take my time and carry on but it is frustrating to have to slow down so much.

Well just thought I would post an update, I tried the Watson brand Tamoxifen for 8 days called CVS today and they are special ordering Mylan brand Tamoxifen for me. I was at the point were the joints in my hands, knees, ankles and my shoulders were just hurting so bad I just could take it. So weird how a brand makes a difference!

I wasn't able to get Mylan last time either (some shortage) the other generic I am on (not Watson) has been not too different for me, but still hoping to get Mylan again this time.

Why did I just go from one room to another, names, and worst of all not remembering the word for something I want to say.  Oh and spelling, not just complicated words, but things like "that" or something weird when I am typing.

    Jo,Lacy and Chabba,and bgirl

thanks for your responses.  It's good to know I am not the only one experiencing this. I thought I was imagining it at one point but it seems to have continued. It's not really worse, just an annoying issue.  I did some research online and read that this may be a side affect but there are no long term studies on if it is permanent or not. That is the thing that bothers me. I also wonder if it is related to the estrogen being blocked in our system since memory loss is also a side affect of menapause. Either way I guess we have to put up with it.  I see  my Dr next week and I am going to ask his opinion on this and I'll you know. Thanks for help.
