Chemopause - The SE's you get while on Chemo

Tamoxopause - The SE's you get while on Tamoxifen

Menopause - The SE's you get while your getting older.... (or you need a PAUSE from MEN)  LOL

Hey all....I have not exploded yet from the tamoxifen. No nausea. No increased hot flashes. Nothing.  Maybe I'm taking a placebo?? LOL  Just kidding.   OH... and I'd better NOT have any increased libido...my 1st ex husband is my houseguest for the next several days. tee hee hee... wouldn't go there if he was the last man left on the face of this earth.

Well I am cruise control now, Makraz!  I am a chiling for the rest of the weekend!

Caligrl... bless you for having your 1st ex husband as a houseguest... I wouldn't let mine in my house if it was a cold day...

So.. does have a small mixed drink or a glass of wine not a good idea?  Heard that even one drink is not good once in a while on Tamox?

Well mevanatta....up until the day I got cancer...we were NOT friendly. Once I told him the bad news he apologized for everything he did to me... and we've been friends ever since. We even have fun around each other...go figure!

I too take 10 mg twice a day.  Just more to remember (and forget!).

    Bald/boobless - I love your attitude.

Traci - why would you rather take Arimidex?  My onc wants to switch me to Arimidex later this year, but I'm afraid it will be even worse than the Tamoxifen.  I feel like I have aged 10 years since I started taking it.  My skin is slack and more wrinkled, my metabolism is WAAAY slower.  I think I could handle the hot flashes and lack of sleep if I at least looked and felt like myself!

Arimidex is supposed to be a little better.  I think like 2% and if you take it then you can take reclast or something like it.  The reclast can decrease the occurance of bone mets.  I would like to take the arimidex and something for the bones.  I am pre meno so I have to wait.  I even considered surgery to remove ovary so that I could take it but I got good results from the 2d6 testing so I am sticking with tamox for now.

I have heard (don't know how true it is) but I have heard that Arimidex is easier to tolerate than tamox.  I think it is different for every one.  Some can take one and some are better with the other.  ???  I wouldn't worry about it being worse than tamox.  From everything I have heard from people taking it, it is very doable.  I have heard more people having problems with tamox than I have the Arimidex.   Good luck!  :) Traci

Spring..nope..no MOJO stories!! He's still here and he's actually having a good time with the kids. Oh, and I forgot to take my tamox last night....so now i am taking it in the morning. I am so bad at taking pills. ugh

so...I registered on a singles site for dating!!  Will the tamox affect my sex drive?? OH jeez, I really hope not. Will it make me look old?? I have such soft, youthful skin at 40...I do not want to have my mother's skin at my age. I have been using a very powerful moisturizer each and every day...let's hope it does its job!!!

You are right red wine and tamox does not mix.  One glass of wine never used to make me sick.

Hi all--so I hadn't heard wine was bad while taking tamox? Is it supposed to decrease effectiveness or it just makes you sick? I don't have that much anymore b/c of all the studies showing it's bad for BC. About 2 or so a week is all I have...

    Hi Ladies,

I started Tamox 2 weeks ago, so far I have had a few "warm" flashes but nothing too bad. I posted this on another thread and then saw some familiar faces..spring...and though I would post here too. I am having menstrual cramps since I started the Tamox. Like BAD cramps. Anyone else having these? Is it the Tamox or something else going on?

    Thanks for the info,

    Susan

I tried the tamoxifin for 6 LONG days and couldn't tolerate it at all.  It made me have severe bone pain, I never knew bones could hurt that bad.  Come to find out, only 2% of the people cannot tolerate it, I'm in that 2%, yippee..    I had a hysterectomy in 1985 but the Dr left my ovaries, so I had them removed on 1/21/09.  I go back to my Medical Oocologist on 4/22 and more than likely she'll put me on the Arimidix, hope I can take that one.

Good luck, ladies!  I'm happy to say - I'm a survivor and CANCER FREE  :)  and I have hair, too!  yeah!  you know everyone kept telling me my hair would grow back and be curley!  well, not mine, it's straight as a board, just like before.  It's just coming in thicker, though..   First off it was white, then the gray started growing in, then the color.  Now it's a little gray and the color is darker than before.  But hey, it's hair!  :)

I have been taking Tamoxifen for one full year now.  It shot me into menopause within a month.  (I'm 45.)  Now I am suffering from horrendous night sweats.  I wake up 6 to 8 times a night soaking wet, often to the point where I have to change clothes.  Sometimes it feels like the water is spurting out of my face.

The oncologist could prescribe an antidepressant, as there are several that combat the night sweats well.  However, they cause weight gain, which is the last thing I need!  So, I am trying herbal remedies, such as black cohash pills, which seem to do nothing.

    Chessiegirl,

I do seem to recall that taking black cohash may not be recommended for er+ bc.  I did a quick search on the boards here and there is some discussion about how it might mimic phytoestrogen and those with er+ bc shouldn't take it.  I haven't looked for documentation so please do your research on it.  I am one of those women where I had a few warm flushettes, so I haven't had to take anything for them.

    Gentle Hugs,

    Trish

Sunshine, I too, had hotflashes hourly for about a month while on Tamox.  I am still on it, 6 months now and they have slowed way down!!  Definitely manageable now.  Hopefully yours will too.  I'd say it was about the 2nd to 3rd month that that was happening.  Hang in there.

Hello to all the new riders on the train.  I was on the train for 5 months and then took a six week vacation....not sleeping more than 2 hours/night b/c of hot flashes, terrible joint pain, and then just being stupid from no sleep.

Started back 2 weeks ago and so far the jt pain is back, but sleeping ok...so will continue

Effexor didn't work for me...affected my mojo...so got rid of that....

go back in four week to the onc to check in

Feeling more like myself and back to some great workouts.  Everyone have a great day

Had my 3 rd haircut last week....last year this time I was just finishing my 3rd chemo - I can say the year has gone fast

Happy to be a survivor and feeling better about the tamox thing

Thanks for the info on wine.. I usually do not drink anymore. But a glass here and there would be nice with a meal.

Well I have taken my pill every nite and have not forgotten once.  Have a few night sweats but nothing real bad.  ( I keep waiting for the gavel to drop after a few weeks and then it be worse)  I have found out that stress or alot of sudden activity seems to bring on a bout of hot flashes during the day.

I do love the Chocolate Car.. look forward to my piece of dark chocolate each day.

MMM.. if I can't have wine.. how about a beer on occasion???

Did you know beer and a piece of chocolate taste great together?

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you can take vitamins with Tamoxifen and what ones do you take.

I would like to take the COQ10, calcium and vitamin D3 .

Is there any others I could benefit from.

Thankyou so much for your help.

    I have ILC stage 2 ER/PR Positive

SharonS... Hate to hear about your derailment..but glad to hear you are back on track.  I totally understand about the hot flashes and lack of sleep!  I started swimming last week and I think it might be helping my joints...but to early to tell.  Hey I'm up for my 3rd trim next week!!!  I still have very very very curly hair...but like you I'm soo glad to be on survivor side this year!

mevanatta Hey girl I do enjoy a Corona, I have never tried it with dark chocolate, but I will try it out!

Sunshine....Things are going better this time.  I too have added swimming to my workouts once a week....I also think it is good for my lymph arm!  Yes, I should have said hair trim too....when I first get it cut it looks like the curl on top is going away...but in a couple of days it is back...I like it and especially the low maintenance!

KathyNSW - I just take a chewable multivitamin....I see my dh bought the over 50 brand this last time....ha ha....I am there, he is not!

Everyone have a nice weekend and if you celebrate the holiday  A Blessed Easter!

    A BLESSING FOR EQUILIBRIUM.
BY JOHN O'DONOHUE, from ‘Benedictus - A Book of Blessings'

Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the music of laughter break through your soul.

As the wind wants to make everything dance,
May your gravity be lightened by grace.

Like the freedom of the monastery bell,
May clarity of mind make your eyes smile.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

As silence smiles on the other side of what's said,
May a sense of irony give you perspective.

As time remains free of all that it frames,
May fear or worry never put you in chains.

May your prayer of listening deepen enough
To hear in the distance the laughter of God.
