Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

Yogatyme, that's great.
A woman came to our door once and DH told her we were atheists. She responded, well the Bible says. . .but I suppose you don't accept that. Well, Jesus . . but I guess that doesn't matter to you either. Talked herself out of it and left.
DD says they train new witnesses in her neighborhood. She hears them tell the trainee that they are Asian because of all the shoes outside on the porch.

Tennessee's governor is equally idiotic. He refuses to issue the needed closures and bans because he doesn't want to do the "big government" thing and thinks Tennesseans can make up their own minds about how to social distance. Well, I've seen plenty of people here congregating and getting too close to each other in stores, so clearly that isn't true. He also made a long list of exceptions to the non-essential businesses that have to close, including churches. What a dumbfuck.

Arkansas is not under a stay at home order but beauty and barber shops are closed as are bars, restaurants (except for takeout/delivery), schools are closed, gatherings of more than 10 people are asked to disburse by police who have the ability to issue citations. Dental and Doctor offices are voluntarily closed except for necessary treatments. Hospitals are not doing any elective procedures. State parks are restricted to day trips only and our most popular national park has been closed by request of the governor to discourage out of state visitors. All of this and more is being done without a mandatory stay at home order. In my area everyone is following safe distance and staying home as much as possible. Lowes and Home Depot and other stores are open, but the local management is taking this seriously and sanitizing every day, shortening store hours to do so. There was some talk by upset citizens about closing the bridges between Arkansas and surrounding states, but the Governor said that would create more problems. We wish surrounding states would self regulate, but it appears they don't really take this seriously.

ananda, it’s good that people in your area are voluntarily following recommendations, but do you think everyone in Arkansas is doing the same? It is doubtful and ambitious at best. It’s still early in your part of the country and your numbers could be significantly lower if your Governor would order stay at home now. This virus is nothing to play around with. I saw an interview with Chris Cuomo last night. He has had the virus for 3 days and is running fevers high enough to cause hallucinations, has lost 13# in 3 days and he described the headache as unbearable. I hope you will stay home and sincerely hope your governor orders shelter in place NOW.

We're shut down until May 4. Fine with me. Grocery stores, pharmacy places (one of which is in a store which allows minor shopping) and libraries are closed. Restaurants are take out only and only for limited hours. The weather isn't conducive for much. Sun this morning and rain this afternoon.

Wren, Gov Inslee is getting lots of accolades for how he is handling WA. Good for him and all in your state.

Yogatime, It appears that people are cooperating all over the state and calling out those who don't. Our largest group of non-compliers are from out of state. Arkansas has 23.5 cases / 100,000. Missouri has 34.5 cases / 100,000. Tennessee has 43.8 cases / 100,000. Louisiana has 220.8 cases / 100,000. Each of these states is shut down but have poor compliance. We are closing parks and major attractions to keep the people from surrounding states from coming here. We have such a high rate of compliance because our governor gives us accurate information every day and the heads of departments explain things in ways that everyone can understand. For example, here are two links available to Arkansans. This shows the statistics of the virus cases, deaths and recoveries. It's updated several times a day. You will have to copy and paste this address to see the map. One can click on a county and see the stats for that county. https://adem.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/f533ac8a8b6040e5896b05b47b17a647
If one is worried that they may be infected, they can get a free online screening and receive a recommendation to either isolate in place or go to a medical facility. Accurate, real-time information helps with compliance and gives people the feeling they are being cared for. https://uamshealth.com/healthnow/?fbclid=IwAR3G5iE...

I live in St. Louis, Missouri. Our numbnut governor finally bowed to pressure and ordered a hunker-at-home order, but it's not effective until Monday. Idiot. The county (St. Louis is an independent city surrounded on three sides by about a bajillion municipalities comprising St. Louis County) has ordered all their parks closed off effective earlier this evening. We drove through one yesterday (staying in our car the entire time), but noticed all the parking areas were packed with empty cars - so the trails and frisbee golf areas and other activity spots were really crowded. I guess I wasn't the only one who noticed since now they're closed. The city has closed off access to a few of our larger, heavily used parks, and closed portions of a few others. We drove through one that is known for its lovely gardens and blooming trees, and the car traffic wasn't that heavy, but that park is mostly used by local residents for walking, and I think they were all there yesterday. I wonder if it will lead to further restrictions and perhaps people from certain streets or neighborhoods being assigned days when they can go to designated parks for fresh air.

ananda, listening to the epidemiologists, I fear your state is seeing this through rose colored glasses. I hope I am wrong. I hope everyone in this country is listening to the stories from the medical professionals on the front lines trying to treat people with this terrible virus. Drs and nurses in NYC are so emotional about what they are seeing. To not do everything we possibly can is not just stupid, it is selfishly putting others at risk. Stay safe.

My county went on stay at home before our useless gov locked down the state. The county parks are still open. I have the misfortune of living next to a linear trail. Ppl are out all hours of day and night. Walking, biking, skating. In groups. But god will protect them??

yogatime, why don't you listen to today's address by the governor of Arkansas and compare what we are doing through cooperation and widespread voluntary compliance. The address isn't that long and contains lots of specific information.

Let’s just agree to disagree.

This map is from the Washington Post and can be viewed without a subscription. It breaks down cases by state and gives numbers per 100k of population.

Well, magiclight, we all know that's because all those victims (including innocent children) weren't worthy of being saved by their deity. Or maybe they just didn't pray hard enough, or ate fish on Friday, or had impure thoughts. Or maybe they didn't vote the right way.
I've given up trying to figure out what makes those people tick. I just wish that whatever it is, they keep it to themselves. I've been social distancing from right wing christians for many years now.😁

Listening to Joe Biden on MSNBC tonight and he gives the perfect meaning of faith....not religious but something that gives you the ability to go inside yourself and find the meaning you have for what you are a part of.....it's about connection and faith is trusting you will still have connection. Perfect! (Has he been listening to Brene Brown?).

Omg, magiclight, your meme! So true!
And Trishy, your reply is spot on: “we all know that's because all those victims (including innocent children) weren't worthy of being saved by their deity. Or maybe they just didn't pray hard enough, or ate fish on Friday, or had impure thoughts. Or maybe they didn't vote the right way”.

Boosting the signal, the NIH is doing a study trying to quantify undetected COVID cases: asymptomatic cases, "I was sick, but I didn't go to the hospital" cases, "I went to the hospital, but they turned me away" cases. If this is something you'd like to volunteer for, email them.

Miri...I'll pass along that good information from NIH
