Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

I look at Christianity as a philosophy rather than a religion. In my experience, I have noticed that the most "Christian" among us are the ones that profess not to be. They are welcoming and non-judgemental.

So can I come hang with you guys? I like being around people that are welcoming and accepting!

It's been a while since I posted on this thread and it appears it has been spammed. I am glad the moderators have been protecting this one place where we can be ourselves.

Wow. Same drama~different day?
As soon as everyone realizes that no-one but moi could be correct about everything;
There will be no further debate about the invisible man upstairs, who rules us all. Then we will forever be held accountable for our own choices.
Go ME!!!
Just thinking of & loving all of you. Love you, Elizabeth!
Things here are well. Biketoberfest in full swing ))
Weather in Florida is chilled. 56 tonight. Brrrrrrrrr.
I keep close tabs on you all....just trying to keep my big yap tap out of trouble.
Hugs & love.

these personal attacks seem to come in cycles over the years..
I wonder if it is the same people or genuine newbies...

Has anyone noticed that these "conflicts" always seem to occur at the end of the work week?
Blue, it's great to see you posting again! How are you?

'morning, everybody! Sleep well? Things seem pretty quiet around here, so far.
I wimped out yesterday. I got really ticked off about what was going on in a couple of the threads; so I wrote about what I had observed -- including what I thought were some odd coincidences -- and how I felt about it. I clicked "submit", and then backed out and deleted my post. I did get some encouraging PM's about the post at the same moment I was deciding to pull it. So, I'm sorry for backing down on what I think is a serious problem that pops up occasionally here on the boards and also more generally.
I live in the Deep South -- I've been here almost 30 years now, having moved from the Northland as an adult. Many people down here wear their religion on their sleeves (a metaphor that I hope does not offend anyone). But, I have never seen people behave as aggressively about their beliefs and practices as some BCO members have done on these boards. I guess I just don't get it.
Anyway, I need to pour another cup of coffee and then take a shower. My dh will be home soon, and we'll need to pack up and head for the football game.
(I'd rather stay home today -- it's a beautiful day to play outside in the yard.)

(P.S.: Did anyone else notice that one of yesterday's perpetrators has changed her bio completely, since last night? Last night it said she was unwilling to disclose personal information about her cancer history at this point, because she was "shy". Today her bio is nothing but a vicious tirade against members of BCO who disagree with her. Such love and kind-heartedness showing through...)

Hi Otter .. so many threads get off track when members use their Christianity as a fighting point. A great verse in the Bible goes something like this "they will know you by your actions." Spreading love and harmony is a much stronger action of your beliefs than tirades about being a Christian.
Wish I had been able to read your post before it went poof!
hugs to everyone,
Bren
PS ... Blue .. sure hope you get moved up the list "right quick." That's southern for really fast!

But I have sure missed my family.

Spiritual but not religious here. Spirituality is an internal belief system and strength which comes from within- just my thoughts on the subject. I also tired of hearing about "God willing" during my treatment. People meant well and I didn't challenge them but did my best to change the topic. Some of the most "spiritual" people are atheists, agnostics and don't believe in organized religion.

I think the newbies love daisies. hmmmmmmmmmmm Then again, I could be wrong.

Bren, it is La Jolla...south of the seals..I just love that spot...
Will you be here for a while?

Gorgeous, Lisa. I can just hear the waves lapping in... and out.....like meditation :-).
I guess I'm more intolerant - I get a bit peeved when people tell me they are going to pray for me. If they do it without me knowing about it, that's fine. Often I feel like they are trying to make me feel guilty for not believing in their religion. I'm sure there is a psychiatric term for that and I'm just insecure or angry at them or something :-).

I think people who offer to pray for someone are trying to be supportive. I doubt 2/3 of the people who say they will pray for someone actually do so. In my area it is more of a social convention like saying "god bless you" when someone sneezes. A small number of people say "I'll pray for you" with the tone that really says, "I am a holy person, look at me." Depending on the tone I either accept it as a social comment or rampant ego.
If a person offers to pray for someone who they know is an atheist, then they are just proselytizing and no more have good intentions toward the atheist than they do towards a tree stump.

Lisa, nice pic. Thanks for posting.
I'd like to share one. This was the view from the window of a cabin my husband and I rented in the NC mountains a few years ago. We haven't been able to go for the past two years but I'm hoping to change that in 2011. The mountains are the most peaceful place in the world to me!

Been away for awhile . . . too long . . . and am just doing a Sunday afternoon (where did the day go?!?) check-in. Thanks so much, Lisa and Bec, for the pictures; just looking at them loosened my shoulders and deepened my breathing. Welcome to the (genuine) newbies.
And Bluedahlia, your comment (you know which one!) made me chuckle wickedly.

I've been super busy (and laying low awhile!), but just wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome. I would have never thought to come here before, but I'm so glad circumstances led me to you wonderful ladies!
I think when people say "I'm praying for you" that they just don't know what else to say. It's just what you're "supposed" to say. I really feel uncomfortable saying it to others, but I get tired of saying "I'm thinking of you" and "I'm sending you positive vibes" doesn't sit well with certain people!
Love the beautiful pics!
