Gorgeous! And I found out more about our shore birds ... white herons are actually snowy egrets! The taller of the "our" two birds with the yellow beak is a great egret. So the ones in Lisa's pics are white herons/snowy egrets. My public service announcement for the day!!

Notice the yellow beak of the great egret below. This is one of those pics I took at the bay where I just wanted to get that one bird. Once I got home and downloaded, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it got lots of different kinds of shore birds. This is what we see everytime we go down to the bay beach. Just in case you wondered why I love our campround so much!

The valley where I live has been saturated with smoke from about 5-8 wildfires that have been burning since July 27th or so.  Last weekend the winds were in our favor & blew most of it out, but since Monday, it's steadily been coming back in!  It's so bad that DEQ is telling everyone to stay in unless they must be out.  I made the reservation before the smoke started & now I think I am soooooo smart!  Can't wait.

I fell in love with the Oregon coast the summer I turned 6.  We had driven from North Dakota to visit an Uncle who lived there.  I will admit that my most vivid memory is going to the docks, getting fresh crab and going back to the Uncle's to eat it.  And thus began my lifelong love of the Dungeness!

I think the finest meal I've ever had was a dungeness that went directly from trap to pot to plate in less than half an hour and served with drawn butter with a few drops of lemon juice.   Heaven! An orgy for the tastebuds!

Crab lover here too. We used to bribe our kids with king crab legs when they were young! They knew that was a special treat and worked for it ... we had no shame :)

I couldn't kill them myself, or lobster. I just can't. But I do fish and my family hunts. I do believe in eating what you kill....

We spent many a happy evening at our trailer having blue claw crabs when the kids were young too. Cover that table in paper and go for it! Hub cleaned them first out back ... ripped the backs off (which housed the lungs, etc., so they died instantly) then hosed them down before cooking. Much easier to eat that way and he didn't mind doing all the work, so we let him! The guy we bought our crabs from caught them himself and sometimes if we got there early he was still sorting them. Now and then one could get away and his dog, a great big black lab, would play with it, chasing it around. Fun to watch :) Thanks for that memory Lisa and Garden!
