Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I'm just 2.5 weeks PFC and my hair is coming back! It is all over my head, maybe 1/2" long. There is no color at all on anything EXCEPT a fine line of bangs, which are dark brown (my original color). Too short to be able to tell if it will be curly or not but the bangs are just a tad longer than the rest and they are laying straight. I'm going to put in a temporary color wash today. It was approved by my oncologist last week. Now, here's hoping I don't have to go through another round of chemo after my surgery (lumpectomy & hysterectomy)...

Congrats on finishing chemo SLV! Best of luck for the surgery!
Take care all, hugs, Judy xoxox

Thanks!
I did the hair color and have disappointing results. I guess I thought coloring all my little white hairs would make it seems like I had a head full of locks but I was WRONG! Guess that was $7 down the drain, literally Oh well, I've wasted far more than that before...
Hope everyone has a great weekend ~

Would someone please tell me why all of my hair has fallen out EXCEPT FOR MY CHIN WHISKERS! It is truly a cold, cruel world! SV

MAGOB - I had a problem with my hair sticking straight up in the back at the crown of my head. I found many of the mousses and styling gels to be too sticky and just didn't like the way it left my hair feeling. Felt like I had sprayed on an entire can of hair spray.
I went to Walgrens and got a product called Special Effects Molding Wax. It comes in a green jar with a silver top and is around $4.
I went through one jar of that in about 2 months so I thought I would try a Pantene molding wax product - again that sticky feeling that I didn't like.
The Special Effects product leaves your hair feeling soft as though you have nothing in it - you just have to put it on lightly by applying it to your finger tips and quickly rubbing your fingers through your hair so that you get even coverage - kind of wisk your finger tips through your hair.

I haven't been around because I went to San Francisco to meet up with a childhood friend back when I was 14 years old. She, my current dh and I all went to school in Naples, Italy.
Funny story - we went to a bar one night where they were offering 2 for 1 cocktails. I ended up having 6 Cape Cods. I was pretty darn drunk which isn't like me. So.....when we were going to her place, there is a hole in the pavement that she had warned me about every time we entered or exited her place. She told me "don't step in the hole" Of course not only did I step in the hole but I fell down in some bushes and was laughing so hard that she had to drag me out of them.
She was irritated that I hadn't listened to her so she took my beautiful strawberry LONG wig and threw it in her lemon tree! This happened around 1 am. I made her get it out of the lemon tree because it was scheduled to rain all night long. Fortunately my party wig wasn't damaged too bad.

I haven't checked in for a while, started back at work and trying to find that balance between working and home life again. A few weeks ago I decided to go topless and have enjoyed not having to cover my head. I did get called "sir" by the Subway guy, but he was busy in a rush and wasn't paying attention. What was funny was when he tried to correct himself, sir, I mean ma'am, sir, ma'am - then he just gave up. The day it happened I was upset and had really hurt feelings, but now it's a funny story.
My hair is still growing - I haven't looked at the back in a while, but it feels thicker and I'm told it's starting to curl some. I've never had to deal with curly hair so this will be new experience as it gets longer. The crown of my head is filling in, but still thinner than the rest of my head. And...... I have eyebrows growing back in - the five o'clock shadow look. I did pluck and remove the ones growing in the middle trying to give me the unibrow look and I did pluck a few tiny ones growing wildly on my eyelid. My eyelashes are growing back - somewhat straight like others have mentioned and look really long in the 15x mirror, but when I tried mascara I couldn't get close enough.
I too had facial hair show up, which I didn't have before. I was on a mini vacation with my sister, freaked out grabbed her razor and shaved it all off. It hasn't grown back. My underarm hair hasn't grown back, down under is coming back and my leg hair is growing like crazy.

I have my final CMF treatment on Monday. I had a duplex chemo treatment, first I had AC*4, then CMF*4. The onc said my hair might start to grow back during CMF. A few days ago, I noticed some tiny peach fuzz on my scalp. My leg hair has started to grow back too.
Meantime, my eybrows fell out two weeks ago. I wasn't expecting that at this stage. I'm having a problem using pencils, etc. to create natural looking eyebrow shapes. I have an Anastasia eyebrow kit and first I use the powder and brush with the stencil to put in an eybrow shape. Then I use an eybrow pencil to add hairs. The eybrow pencil has a brush on the end, so next I pass that through i the usual direction of hair growth. At a distance it looks passable but up close it looks bad. Any tips?

Mary - I just use the Lancome eyebrow pencil with the brush on the end - found a color that matches my skin tone, shape it along the brow line then gently brush it along the line to create a more natural look. Just the other day I had someone that works in another dept from me stop me in the hall and asked who did my eyebrows because they were done so well. I told her to look closer they were drawn on. I find the Lancome pencil with brush to be the easiest. It's not too soft and stays on all day. I will admit there are days I just can't get it right, but most days they don't look too bad.

Thanks Jenn, going to check out the Lancome pencil.

MaryNY - hi, I swear by the Merle Norman Only Natural Brow Makeup powder. That said, yesterday I saw a kit that looked really good. It was a palette of three colors by a company called Ditzy Cosmetics. I ended up purchasing their brow sealer. Here's a link of found when I searched on Google. If I didn't already have a brand new Merle Norman one, I most definately would have purchased the Ditzy one. I'm actually tempted, though, to go back and buy the kit because it comes with the three colors for a really natural look. They also have stencils but they were sold out at the store I was at.
I hope this helps!

Thanks Sherri: The Ditzy palette of three colors looks like that contained in the set I already have—Anastasia Brow Express. I got that at a Look Good Feel Better event. It includes the stencils and brow sealer.
I think what I need is the right pencil to add that extra dimension. The pencil I have seem to be too soft to get a sharp line. I do have a few other brow pencils but they are too light in color. They were fine when I just wanted to fill in the gaps in my existing eyebrows but now that I only have a few hairs left, they don't work well.

Hi everyone! I haven't been on here for awhile, so busy the last few weeks, work, kids, stuff.
I just wanted to say hi and encourage all of you who's hair is starting to "come back". It does! I'll be 6 mo post chemo in three days, had my first very tiny itty, bitty trim the fuzz off the ends a couple weeks ago, I think it helped! I did get some highlights put in am that really helped, I'm getting used to this short look. I think the trim really helped, I think it's starting to really take off the last couple weeks! I also had peach fuzz (more like cotton candy) on my face which I did shave awhile back, it has not come back.
Hugs to all, Diane

Exciting news! I have a friend in Florida who went through chemo a few years ago. She is sending me a flat iron - a really small one, a little less than an inch wide. It is for short curly hair. She used it for the first year after chemo, and says it really did the trick. OK - so a friend of mine is visiting her this weekend, and is flying back to town TONIGHT with said flat iron in hand. What wonderful friends I am blessed with! Don't know about the rest of you gentle readers, but I have found that help has come from so many places - and just when I need it.
Will try it out and give you all a report soon. If it works well, perhaps a new avitar will be in order.

Hi All - I'm a little more than three weeks PFC and my eyebrows are still holding on. They thinned a little during treatment but I think that's stopped. Is there anyone out there who *didn't* lose their eyebrows? (my lashes are here too, but perhaps sparse). I had 6 tx of taxotere and cytoxan.
On another note, I'm seeing an opthamologist tomorrow. My tear ducts are closed shut from the taxotere and my eyes water almost constantly, but especially outside. Happened every tx but stopped about day 18 or so. It hasn't stopped this time. The tears dry out the area under my eyes and make the skin even more "crepe" looking and wrinkled than it is already! The treatment is to insert tubes into the tear ducts to prop them open for a few months and then when the tubes are removed the problem should be gone. Not looking forward to this ...

I got my perm on Friday. My hair dresser was surprised at how short it was for 1 year past chemo. I went back to my old hairdresser rather than the pricier one. After the perm, she blew it dry and tried to curl it with the iron, but it's so soft, that she put about 1/2 a can of spray on it. I'm going to wash it today and see what happens when I do it myself. I'll post a new pic when I get it looking presentable.

I am 6 weeks PFC and am happy to post that my eyebrows are really starting to grow - so much so that I may get the little growth sprurts shaped by a professional - I plucked a bunch of wild hairs, but I think it may be time to shape what is growing before it looks like I have a caterpillar above my eyes. They still need the pencil, but the 5 o'clock shadow is spreading like crazy. And........... I'm not going to complain because I really miss(ed) my eyebrows. Next - my eyelashes, can't wait for them to start filling in.

Jenn- Is your hair growing faster now that you are off the taxol? My hair is growing now while I am on Taxol (8of12) but it is sparse. I was wondering if it is that way just because I am still on taxol and if it starts to grow faster once your off.
0 -
Yes, the hair seems to be growing much faster now that I'm off Taxol. And...... the eyebrows seemed to just show up overnight! My hair is still very short, but filling in (no more bare or thin spots) and even starting to try to curl, a little longer and it eventually curl.

Great news about the eyebrows!
I'm curious, if I am to get chemo (which is likely, I am told) and if I do lose my hair, including my eyebrows, I wonder if when they grow back if they will grow back better than they were before?
I over plucked them in my 20s and 30s, and now they are thin and have gaps because when you over pluck, that just screws them up permanently sometimes!
I wonder if they will come back just as sparse or if I will get a second chance with them?

Lottie- I finished TCH X 6 with the last treatment on Dec. 1. My eyebrows thinned but never left completely. As for my eyelashes, I was left with about thee on each line of lashes. The brows have begun to grow and I shaved my legs for the first time yesterday.
I am with you on the watering eyes. Mine have done the same as you have described and there are days they stream down along the side of my nose. It has not resolved itself so when I see my onc. tomorrow, I'll him ask for solutions. I have read about the tubes and I hope that will work for you.
My hair is about 1/2 inch long and very salt and pepper colored. My "natural" color was medium brown so when I started to turn gray, I colored it. I'm 51 and a grandmother now but I still think I'll color it again.

I also over plucked when I was in my 20's. Wondering the same thing...do i get another chance at my once full brows. Also big fear...has anyone not had their hair grow back after chemo??? I have always worn my hair long and now feel naked!!!! I have 3 more treatments of Taxol. Then onto radiation. Does radiation effect hair regrowth?
