MBJ: I found out that I'm allergic to any more than 1000 mcgs. of Biotin a day. I broke out in hives when I doubled the dose - yikes! I had to take 2 benadryl tablets.
I'm still bandaged up, but I see the site every 3 or 4 days when I get re-bandaged. I must say the surgery sites are looking a lot better! Can't wait to get the drains out. Doctor says he may take 2 out tomorrow.

Westiemom - yes, I used the three step system. I think you will like it.

saralmom: What is the color you use called? Very curious about this, since I'm a long time user of Henna and the only thing I dislike a little is that it leaves a red cast every time, sometimes it's redder than others. I don't have a Whole Foods that I know of around me.0

I take 5mg of biotin in the morning and 5 at night too. I stopped taking it for two weeks before my surgery to change my tissue expanders for implants. Once I started taking it again, I noticed the tingly sensation on my scalp, that I think means the hair is growing in faster, began again. I also take a vitamin that says it is for "Hair, Skin and Nails", calcium, Vit D, fish oil, Vit E...and Tamoxifen. My hair seems to be growing fast...although it seems to be growing straight up in the air...lol...instead on down. Maybe when I get more length. I want to dye it light blond again but I am afraid of damaging the hair. I'm not sure what dye is safe. I am 5 months since my last chemo...3 months since my hair started growing in. To dye or not to dye...that is the question!

Brenda: Sorry to hear you are allergic to Biotin, but I am happy to hear you are well on your way to healing. Getting the drains out is such a relief! I will be sending you many good healing thoughts!
poodleluvbug: If I don't style my hair, and it is still wet, it is so long now that it sticks straight out on the sides like Bozo The Clown

Had my hair colored today with a new ammonia free color by INOA. I'll have to admit it was nice not having to smell the ammonia; it didn't irritate my scalp but the regular color didn't bother it either. Before the mix was stirred it looked like honey drizzled on yogurt, my hair is growing back with lots of curl and when I brush it out it "poofs" this color has my hair super shiny, very soft, it calmed the curls (didn't take them away) but they seem to be chilling out for now.

Had my hair dyed Thursday, boxed up the wig and have gotten so many compliments. I go to radiation oncologist tomorrow for my 1 month check up. Now if I could just stop craving chocolate and get rid of the 10 pounds I have gained, all will be good.

Have not posted in a while but have been lurking through everyone's photos. This is all I have to show for being almost 5 months PFC. I've been taking Biotin and using Boost shampoo/conditioner. My hair was always stick straight. Seem to have a wave going on the top of my head and also in the back. I have been getting compliments from everyone and they even like the color which I consider chemo pencil lead. Is that in the Crayola box? I don't mind the waves, and hope that it doesn't turn to frizz and curls.
Poodleluvbug...Didn't know I would have to discontinue the Biotin prior to my exchange surgery scheduled for March 30th. Is it considered a blood thinner?

I'm about 10 weeks post chemo and I have about a half in.of hair. dark almost blk, with a little grey. Does it start out thin for most people then thicken up over time? It seams on the thin side. My eyebrows were almost gone and the the started coming right back it, thick of course. Thx ladies as always on here everyone is so helpful.
I do take biotin and I use Nioxin shampoo, I did use these before chemo. I have a cosmetologist license but haven't practiced for years. I am familiar with what is good for hair growth and another thing is scalp massage. So next time you visit your salon ask for an extra good scalp massage.

Joan-I so enjoyed looking at your 'before' avatar and your current photo, that I had to post mine! I see strength, determination and courage in your 'after' photo!0

Joan888-they told me to stop my fish oil, and my vit E. I forgot to tell them about the Biotin so I just stopped taking it too. I'd ask your doctor if it is okay. I am 5 months since my last chemo and I have the exact hairdo as you! The exact same length. My hair was straight before too and is getting wavy in the back. Good luck with your exchange surgery.

Wow, I am gone for a few days and I am way behind. Just wanted to let y'all know that the results from my biopsy last week were benign. I have to meet with the doctor on Wednesday for follow-up.
Ok, now back to catching up!
My new avatar was made a few days ago - 13 weeks pfc.

Had my first hair trim to even out the rough spots. She couldn't believe how thick it was. I thought it felt thin. We talked about Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Dench hair styles. She charged me for a man's cut. I also have thyroid problems and have loss enough hair from that. So far no hormonal blocker hair loss. Thick hair runs in my family (for the women at least) the boys have mo hope.

I'm joining this group, can't wait to get my hair back!! I love the pic's and I'm jealous of your all!
I have 6 Taxol left, does any one know if I can use Biotin while I'm still on chemo_(sorry, my question mark doesn't work right now)

Joan: I'm having exchange and ooph this coming Monday and all they told me to stop was th Omega 3, the baby aspirin, and the Vit E. They said nothing about Biotin so I hope I'm ok.
Sue: I sure hope it thickens up! I'm just 3 weeks pfc and I have fuzzies everywhere now but alas, oh so thin and OH SO WHITE! My avatar is of me prior to chemo, so that's my real hair and it went down past my butt. I keep looking at people's hair thinking, "How in the world will I ever have that much hair again!?". But it's coming... slow but sure. I'm taking weekly pictures but haven't done anything with them yet because I'm only 3 weeks out and preparing for surgery. But I will eventually place them all side by side for others to see.

Hi ladies - lots of lovely photos!!
My Chemo Curls are disappearing! I finished chemo Dec 30th 2009, had lots of crazy chemo curls last year but now they are slowly disappearing and my hair is resembling the pre-chemo 'waviness/kink' rather than mad curl!

westiemom: I would love to hear over the long term if the Iona hair dye lasts longer (color, depth) then regular dyes. I have been looking into it for a year but it is only offered in salons and I color my own hair:(
Joan: Biotin is part of the vitamin B family. I was unaware that you can't take it prior to surgery, just not while on chemo. Hmmmmm. Your hair is coming in great and it looks good on you!

Dawney: Congratulations on being B9!!!!! Great new avatar, too. Your hair is coming in great!

mjbmiller: Once I evened out my hair it grew like a weed. You are on your way!
0 -
Iowasue: Mine was pretty thin at first and you could see lots of scalp, I evened it out and then it seemed to grow like a weed-very thick. The first hair is chemo hair and not what will eventually grow in with time.
Treadsoftly: Yay for you! I find the longer my hair gets, the less actual curl I have, though it still sticks straight out!
KCMom: Yours is coming in like mine in the beginning. The all grey went away after a few months and it's now back to it's dark brown with lots more grey.

The color I buy at Whole Foods is called Naturtint. To be clear - it is not an organic product. It;s plant based (there is soy which I'm on the fence about) and does have some hard to pronounce ingredients which I know signifies some potential questions as well.
Henna may still be your best option if you are looking for something completely and totally natural - I don't know anything about Henna though. I'll look into that for possible future use too. For now, I'm kind of just doing the best I can in this toxic world we live in. It's overwhelming.
Whole Foods also has another brand which I'll check out next time I'm there too.

Angelisa: I have used the Naturetint, too. It worked realy well for me.

Okay - IF my photos post here, these are from today, and I am officially exactly 6 months PFC. And this is with Naturtint 5N after 6 weeks, fyi.
