I did it!!!! Went topless today for the first time. I can't believe how nervous I was driving to rads, but my techs were so sweet and supportive. I also stopped at the grocery store, and if anybody stared at me, I didn't notice. Monday will be the real test, when I show up at work with my new "do". I know there will be comments, but I hope to not become a "go look at Marie's hair" topic of conversation. I don't know how to post a photo (I tried, but nothing happened).

Woohoo, MizMarie!!! Don't worry about what others think, just go proudly into work realizing that they will come and look. It's human nature. Just wear a smile, accept those compliments, and feel good about being free at last!

Caitlin B.,
My hair started to grow back in during Taxol. I was really surprised by it. I first noticed the "peach fuzz" about 2 months after my last AC. It grew at about 1/2 inch per month and is now at my shoulders (15 months after treatment). Hang in there!
((hugs to you))

Bravo Marie! My first day topless at work was 10 times better than I thought it would be. Good luck and enjoy this side of the hair journey...

Mccrimmon, your hair looks great. I hope I have that much by the end of summer, which will be 7 months pfc for me.
Mizmarie, good for you
Caitlin, mine started growing around taxol #7 of 12.0 -
MizMarie,
So proud for you! It is so liberating to be free from the wigs and hats! I finally took the plunge when a friend of mine saw me "topless" and said, "Why do you wear a wig? I like you better this way." Then, once I did it, I wondered why I waited so long. Just own it and be proud because it symbolizes the battle you're fighting.
God bless!

My only daughter is getting married in Sept., I would give anything
not to have to deal with this hot itchy wig! I'll be 5 mths out of chemo
by then. I was told you only need about 2 in of hair for
extensions. Anyone here go that route?0 -
Has anybody had your hair come in curly on one side only? This is driving me crazy. I did get some Got to Be Glued. This stuff works great. I'm going to see my hair dresser next week to see if she can do something with it. At least my thin spot on top is filling in! I'm 18 weeks PFC and have been going topless for a few weeks now. It's wonderful and truthfully, I haven't noticed any weird looks. I say go for it!

i have an eyelash update... i'm seeing my PS medical assistant on Monday for Latisse. i understand it could change/darken my eye color but my eyes are very dark brown so not a big deal + i understand a large amount has to actually get into my eye for this to happen. anyway, i bought two set of MAC eyelashes from Nordstrom a few weeks ago. i wasn't able to wear the lashes because their too difficult to apply + i heard the glue is bad for new lashes growing in. i brought them back to Nordstrom yesterday and the sales girl would not take them back (i had the receipt). i explained that i asked if i could return them when i bought them & was told: yes. she then said: well, not if they've been worn!! i then said i tried to apply one & it didn't work. the other set has never been worn. she held it up the package & examined it. i repeated that i was surprised by this & that the second set has not been worn. she sighed & said: well, i'll return one set this time only but not the one that's been worn. i looked at her & said: i only bought then because my lashes fell out during chemo. i have breast cancer & using the lashes with glue could impair regrowth. she looked at me with a blank stare & said: would you like the credit back on your Master Card? UGH!!! so much for the We Take Anything Back Reurn Policy at Nordstrom...

Mccrimmon324....You look great! Yours is longer then mine! I use pompade or hair wax to make mine less poofy/qtip look.
Congrats Mizmarie!!!!

So most of my hair fell out, but all the grey stayed in! It is not growing. A hairdresser told me that I need to pull it all out - duct tape works, she said - or it will not regrow. Anyone have experience with this?

Why would you have to pull it out to have your hair grow?

McCrimmon, you look great. I'm also 7 month PFC and I don't think I have quite that much hair. I did however have precautionary carboplatin treatments after my surgery and I did not finish those until Feb 24. They may have slowed down my growth some although the ONC said they wouldn't. You really do look great.
MamaV, there is probably another thread for this, but have you had any problems with the arimidex or do you have any advise. I'm a little concerned about the weight gain and bone loss. Do you think this are really serious concerns. I've only been on it for two weeks.
Thanks, Denise

I'm still fighting with this crazy new hair at almost 11 months PFC. I've been trying to flat iron the curl out of my hair but the texture is still so weird. It's like styling something between a brillo pad and straw-it generally ends up sticking out everywhere! I was complaining the other night and DH started laughing and said my hair looks like "Worzel Gummidge". He's from the UK and I had never heard of Worzel Gummidge who is a scarecrow from a tv show. Here's what he looks like:
Hilarious-Yes, I have scarecrow hair but I'm jealous because Worzel Gummidge has much longer hair than me!

HI, I havent' been here in quite awhile - I did chemo and rads and finally finished Herceptin in Nov 2011, and I'm on Tamoxifen now. I take biotin twice a day and yet my hair is still really thin on top and very very dry and frizzy, thanks to the tamo I'm sure. I've gotten it trimmed a few times to try to get some shape in it and to try to get rid of the really dry ends. Well, I found this product a few weeks ago that seems to work wonders; I wanted to use it for a few weeks before mentioning it here, to see how well it really worked, and so far - so good. It's called Morocanoil - by my standards it's kind of expensive, but I went ahead and bought the shampoo, the conditioner, and the oil and it seems to be working to keep the dryness away. Anyhow, I just wanted to mention it, but like I said, it's kind of expensive. I'll have to see how long the bottles last to know if I really want to keep buying it. Looking good is one thing, blowing money isn't an option these day.

i use a morrocan oil on my hair before i style it too. It's $25 for about 3 ounces but I ahve had it for about a year now and still ahve 1/3 of the bottle left. it keeps the frizzies down.

Sally's Beauty Supply has a less expensive version of the moroccan oil.
Snoozy--I think your hairdresser is telling you a wive's tale or something. You don't need to pull your hair out with duct tape for more hair to grow. And alot of us have our hair come back a different color.

snoozy I had long hairs along my hairline that did not ever fall out until the new hair came in. They kind of broke off as the new ones came in. Once I had full coverage I had them trimmed to match the length of the new hair.
I think I am getting split ends looks like I may have to get a trim. I jsut hate to take any length off. I want it back to my shoulders.

ImSnoozy - a lint roller (uses masking tape) helps to clean up the loose hairs on your scalp. I used one every day for a couple weeks to get the stragglers when my hair fell out. But like Wendyspet said, you do not have to pull out your hair. That makes no sense at all.
It's interesting, everyone's discussion about hair texture. Mine is baby-fine rather than stiff and wiry. I wish it had a bit more texture. But I'm glad for every strand of it, so I'm not really complaining! My bedhead is frightful, though!

Wendyspet.. Do you know the name og the "morocon" oil that is available at Sally's?

I used ovation cell therapy for about 4-5 months and I really think that helped my hair get back to normal texture/thickness. I didn't use the shampoo and conditioner that they sell as a set after the first purchase. You can use the cell therapy with any shampoo and conditioner. I'm almost 16 months PFC and still having to work with curls, although not nearly as tight as the curls used to be.
