Thanks lago, I have always had straight hair, it's going to be a challenge.
Congrats Ann, that's wonderful! Mine are still too wet and weepy to use mascara, but they have grown out completely since end of treatment in October.
I'm still just using shower gel on my body puff to wash my 1/2" hair. Then after the shower I put lotion on my head. After having long hair for all my life and all the washing and conditioning and leave in treatments, honestly it's nice to have a break. Especially now that I have added dry brushing and MDL to my morning shower routine.

Surprisingly, two years pfc, it's hard to remember many details about the chemo phase. But I do remember I washed my head with a dab of shampoo and then a dab of conditioner. It made my scalp feel SO much better. I would also use a small bit of moisturizer on my head when the hair was just stubble. And that felt SO much better as well.
jayjay, you are so new to it all...there is SO much life after treatment. My DH and I well remember being told at the early doctor appointments after I was diagnosed that we should plan on about a year of dealing with treatments. That helped in sort of kicking back, putting it in low gear and doing what I had to do. It's rough but doable. Then, before you know it, you'll be two years out like me and kicking ass!

Victoria, like you, my straight blondish hair grew in gray and curly. I was horrified; I looked just like my mother, with her perm. Next week I'll be one year PFC, and my hair is still curly, but I've colored and highlighted it, trimmed it twice. It 's not nearly as long as I had hoped by this time. Iago gives me hope that a year from now, the curls will be gone and my length will be back. I have been taking Biotin since chemo ended.
And for newbies, as DivineMrsM said, treatments are no fun and time seems to stand still, but then you're finished and life begins anew. A year out, it all seems like a bad dream.0 -
jayjayc...I'm a sucker for hair/scalp products. When I was bald, I sometimes used normal shampoo, and sometimes Nioxin. After treatment was over and my hair started sprouting...I got crazy with products! I used the shampoo, conditioner, AND follicle/scalp treatment from Aveda called Invati. I still use the treatment twice/day. I also used Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil Treatment in the shower, which is tingly and felt great.

Hello, I have not posted in this forum before. I am a 3 1/2 year survivor. I have had several people ask me to share this link to my blog over here. I thought I had, but apparently it was shared on another forum. I hope this is the appropriate place & that it is permitted to share links to blogs with photos. Or should I have started a new topic? I apologize, I didn't see a "Introduce Yourself" type of thread anywhere, but I'm sorta new to this site. Anyway, I had to have 2 lumpectomy surgeries (second to get the clear margin), then TCH chemo / Herceptin then radiation.
When I first was told I was gonna have chemo, the hair loss part really was the most traumatic part of the whole ordeal for me. So I searched & searched the internet for blogs & pics from others who were going through it or had already gone through it. And the ones I found really did help. So I did one on my blog, & thought I'd share it with y'all here. Hope it might help others who are havin a hard time with the hair loss part of treatment. So here's the link:

Feel free to share the blog/post with anyone you think might find it helpful, or bring a smile when they see my mohawk! So, after numerous messages from people telling me this post should be shared here, it is now. If this is not the right place, or if I should have started a New Topic, just let me know & I'll correct or whatever is the right thing to do.
I used Aveda hair products before the bc, on my bald head, & still use it.

I just wanted to share my new author pic (I write fiction under a pen name ). I'm 8 months PFC, but still on Herceptin (only 2 more to go!!). I'm trying to pull off the funky spiky look. Some days I manage, some days I don't. I thought this turned out pretty good, though. I'm hoping once I'm done with the Herceptin that it will really take off

You know, I wish I could find hair dressers in my area that understand how cruddy it is to lose your hair to chemo. I thought my hair dresser and I were on the same page, as in growing it out. She chopped all but the top off. It is a very nice style, just not my plan.
Hair should not matter this much to me.

Cute, cute, cute. I just had my last Herceptin today so hoping for some speedier growth myself!

EmmaC you should have had my hair dresser. I never buzzed my hair till 13 weeks PFC. I had my hairdresser take out the buzz clipper and shave the back and sides leave the top longer… and now 2 years PFC I still have him do it. So glad I look good in short hair. It's soooo much easier.

Myleftboob-- Yay congratulations on finishing Herceptin!!!

Thank you Luna! I am glad there is hope for my hair to be somewhat normal again. I miss my straight beautiful hair. This was me most of my life I always got compliments on my hair.
So am I understanding correctly that Herception is slowing hair regrowth? I Finished chemo mid October and I only have about 1/2" of salt & pepper curly hair.

luna, lovely timeline, great job logging your results.
Kristin, you look marvelous!
EmmaC, you are allowed for your hair to mean so much to you! I had a gal trim my hair once about 10 months pfc and liked how she took just a bit off. The next time I went to her, she cut off more than I preferred. That was last June and it was last time I had my hair cut professionally. I just decided I was going to let it grow. I'm one to snip a bit off the bangs, and trim a tiny bit off the ends of the layers to keep it shaped up a bit, but it's longer now than I've ever had it as an adult. I thought, what the heck, why not see what longer hair is like. I KNOW that those who've never lost their hair have no clue what that's like.

Thanks so much y'all! I don't know for sure if Herceptin affects the rate of hair growth. Waiting on hair to grow back really does show how slowly & quickly time passes, all at the same time.

Luna, Thank you for sharing. You look great! Do you have any curl left or is it all gone? Are you still using a brush to dry?
KristinFro, You look beautiful. Hope you sell a lot of books.
EmmaC, Hair matters to most of us. I only had one haircut and I micromanaged the process to no end. Do not cut this, do not cut that. The hairdresser was so sweet so she got a big tip.

LunaTechChick, thanks for the link to your blog! You look great at all stages of hair growth.
Victoria38, your hair is beautiful in both the photo and your avatar.
KristinFro, I love the headshot for your new book - the expression, the hairstyle, all of it.
TheDivineMrsM, thanks for the inspirational post (the one that finished with this "before you know it, you'll be two years out like me and kicking ass!")

Thanks so much islandmom. There is still some curl left, but I do still round brush it while blowdrying, so it comes out straight. But if I'm in a hurry, I just blowdry without the brush & go with the curl.

MLB- woohoo to last treatment !
Love all the hair pics, still think mine should be longer by now, but still glad I have hair. I will try and take new pics next week.

Thanks for the encouraging words....... 'Cause right now I do sometimes feel that I'll never be done with this stupid BC.......0 -
Thank you, ladies! And I've heard conflicting reports on Herceptin and hair growth. All I know is that if I take average hair growth into consideration, I should have about 3 inches (on the top, which has not been cut) and right now I only have about 2 inches. In all fairness, though, my hair never grew very fast so I'm not sure if it's the Herceptin, or me just being me )

Well I'm taking Biotin and have been since October when I finished chemo. And I only have 1/2", so something must be up. I'd like to blame the Herceptin. Looking forward to when mine looks as good as yours Kristin!

Has anyone noticed that their pre-BC grew faster in the summertime? I think mine always did and I think I recall my hair stylist saying that hair grows faster in warmer weather.
I sure do hope that's the case...

Hi ladies. Happy Valentine's day. It looks like Cupid delivered my new eyelashes while I was not looking. Wooohoooo. My brows are coming in too. Lol

Yay for brows and lashes!

Thanks! It was a nice feeling for sure. There were a couple of ladies just in the early stages of TX I was talking to in the area I was in yesterday that had just lost their hair and they were so curious about timelines, wigs etc. One looked a little disappointed when I told her that I'm actually 10 months PFC but I quickly reminded her that I've had Herceptin for a year in total and it seems to slow the growth somewhat.

Morning ladies! Happy valentines day!
I have a question. I am 14 weeks pfc and my hair is growing, maybe about 2" of curls, but it is salt and pepper! I am so bummed. I am 37 and always had beautiful black hair mind you some gray but nowhere near what is coming in. Will it ever grow out and go back to my color? I look 20 yrs older than I am. At this rate I am never taking my wig off0 -
Hi - well I promised myself after I got ANY hair, I would never complain of a bad hair day again, and I haven't... I would guess it most likely will not go back to the color.. just the texture.. but who knows.. can you put a temporary color in it to get you through....
Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I had my hair professionally dyed after week 13 when I started to go topless. My onc said I could dye it when ever I wanted.
I have read that what you do to hair once it's above the skin has no effect on the hair below. Granted the hair dye will go on your scalp but I had no issues.
