Carrol's hair grew really fast. My hair always grew fast too. Granted I was on herceptin but my hair still grew faster than many other's on herceptin. I also think it started growing before I finished chemo. I decided not to look till well after chemo ended.

I assumed my hair wasn't going to come back or come back all curly. I have no idea what to do with curly hair. But it came back. It did have a bit more wave at first but didn't do that poodle thing. After Herceptin it grew event faster. I did have my hair colored and trimmed every 3 weeks.

Speaking of growing hair I need to get a haircut.

Here's my hair transistion linky Unlike Carrol I kept mine short.

I did not trim my hair much. I had a minor sort of trim at 4 months cause i had these flyaway pieces that never fell out. so i had it all evened out. Then I did not trim it again until about a year later. I was lucky though it grew in pretty even on it's own except the very top which has always been thin on me. It really is back to the way it was for the most part except its all new and healthy like a little girl. I had a tiny bit more wave at first which i didnt even notice ntil it started to grow out. Now I can see the ends have a little more curl like a perm growing out. But it's all back. Chemo feels like a very distant memory now, almost like it happened to someone else. You will all be there and when your hair grows back I hope you will send pics too.

Carrol you look great.  You have to be the one with the fastest growing hair.  It looks full and healthy.  Thanks for putting your pictures they were helpful to many of us.  Do you have any plans to cut it?

Before BC I had short hair and thought that I would never have long hair again.  I felt it looked more appropriate for my age.  Well it is getting longer and the texture is so different, since I still have the chemo curls.  I have been asked recently if I am wearing a wig by two separate people I had not seen in a while.  The funny thing is that when I was actually wearing a wig most friends could not believe, because it looked a lot like my hair.

islandmom I always had long hair. I never liked how I looked with short hair. I don't think I want to look age appropriate lol.

Oh wow, that's taking a long time to grow back, I start Taxotere tomorrow and am super nervous about it, I've had 3 x fec and lost all my hair on head but managed to keep eyebrows and some eyelashes, read allot of info that taxotere will make the rest fall out and loose eyebrows!

Anyone go thru hair loss during winter? And a mild temp winter, California, not Canada ;) How many wigs & hats did you need?

I'm always one to plan in advance, so I'm trying to get stuff sorted before my hair goes. My first treatment is in 2 weeks. I normally wear my hair long, but I'm used to wearing wigs & hats. I have 1 "normal" looking wig & 1 newsboy-sytle cap that will prob. work w/out hair. But I figure I'm in this for the long haul, & I hate to be confined to 1 boring style. Trying to balance that with being budget conscious.

Tips, advice on how many? I already have tons of links for things I could buy & patterns for things I could sew, just not sure how much to stockpile!

I had 2 wigs (I only wore those to work) and a bunch of scarves. I have a military style hat that I wear now because I can tuck my ears under it better than a baseball cap. I was bald for most of the winter in upstate NY. During the spring I found myself wearing more scarves than hats. There are a bunch of scarves I never wore because I ended up with so many. Now I am just wearing my hat. I have a small bit of hair growth at 9 weeks PFC. I am almost ready to go without...

I had a wig, wore it maybe 6 times too hot and itchey. I went topless almost all the time. But in Jan when it was getting into the 40s at night I wore a ski type hat if I had to be out. I don't have central heat, and was ok at bed time.

I started chemo end of August 2012, so went the winter with no hair. I started with just 1 wig, and I liked it so much and it looked so natural that I stuck with just one the whole way through, just using scarves at night. When it needed to be washed, I'd do it before I went to bed and it was dry and ready to wear the next day.

I was fortunate to go through chemo the winter.  I pretty much lived in knit beanies of all styles and colors, just like everyone else around was wearing.  But I am retired and didn't have to go to work.  Had a few cloche-type hats but rarely wore them.  I did buy a wig, spent a good deal of money on it, tried it on a few times and then put it away.  It just wasn't me at all; I didn't even recognize myself in the mirror.  But I did love my beanies.  Later, when my hair started to come in a bit and the weather got warmer, I switched to ball caps.

Encyclias, you could always send your wig to another sister in need. Post a picture of it on the "Freebies" thread, and maybe someone who couldn't afford one could use it. That is what I did with my wigs. I had the shampoo and something else that I also sent along with it. And yes, I washed it before I gave it away Surprised. Same goes for any hats and scarves. Pay it forward girls!

Goldie, I have plans to give it to the MD Anderson affiliated cancer center here.  They have loads of new and used wigs, beanies (knitted by church groups here), hats and scarves that they give away for free.  I agree we need to pass on clean, usable headwear.

Like I said, I'm used to wearing wigs & hats -- I wear wigs over my hair with costumes several times each month, & I can only imagine wearing a wig w/out hair would be more comfortable/less hot, so that's not a concern for me at all! I love the way I look in wigs & find them so much easier to deal with than real hair :) But my costume wigs are mostly pretty big, so I figure I'll get something smaller & in a bright punky color like hot pink or purple that's a PITA to maintain in my normal hair.

Sounds like maybe 1 or 2 wigs max. & a bunch of little caps for around the house is prob. enough for now. I can always buy/make more stuff if my hair is slow growing back. Thanks, I appreciate hearing your experiences!

I had 2 wigs. One I bought, one I received from the Cancer centre "looking good"at the hospital. I also bought a halo. Wig just on the sides. You have to wear a hat. This was my favorite. The most comfortable. Go for the wig while you still have your own hair. Also, I didn't buy real. My synthetic is beautiful. A perfect match.

    Good luck

I finished chemo in mid March 2013, so I am 5 months post-chemo.  I hardly used my wig - too scratchy!  I got some lovely soft merino beanies and wore them through the long winter.

I started getting white fuzz within a month of finishing chemo.  By May 2013 I had a white buzzcut and I stopped wearing hair covering.  I loved just stroking my fuzz, it was so nice to have hair again.

I started colouring my hair in June 2013 (3 months after finishing chemo).

My hair is now between 1 inch and 1.5 inches long.

I've set up a special page on my blog to record the progress of the regrowth and the results of my hair colouring "experiments" http://iameclectica.blogspot.co.uk/p/chemo-hair-regrowth_16.html

    hi,

I have had my hair cut quite a few times since it started coming in. I like it short. I have curls in parts of it and have colored it too. It looks like most of my hair is dark but parts are grey. I am using morrocan oil to control the frizz. All in all I like my hair. There wer some hot days that I wished I were bald. LOL

Good evening ladies..  I am 15 months PFC,my hair is growing but it is very thin in the front and on crown in the back. Has anyone tried the Keranique Hair Treatment that is advertised on TV?  I take Tamoxifen and have the SE of thinning hair so I was wondering if any of the hair treatment products will work.  I also take 5000 of Biotin everyday that I believe is not helping but I take it anyway..      I welcome any other suggestions.   Thanks

Eileenohio I'll see what my neighbor is using. She was practically bald on Anastrozole. Saw her the other day and I was blown away. Seems most of her hair was back. She used a 3 process treatment that she said is a PITA but she has her hair back. She was diagnosed a few months after me. Also triple positve with the same treatments me (except she had radiation). Remind me. I don't see her that often.

I am ordering a product called Ovation. I heard about it on the radio several years ago. Bought some for my MIL for thinning hair from thyroid issues. It worked for her when nothing else did. It is a three step process. Look at ovation.com. Pricey but I am going to give it a try. I am 9 weeks post chemo and the soft fuzz is starting to grow in.

Eileenohio, I take 2 - 5000 mgs of Biotin a day. That is what was recommended to me by other BC girls.  I have always been a blonde (with help from my beautician!) and my hair is coming in super thick and DARK!!!  My hair is about 1 1/2" long, but I still wear my wig when I go outside my home.  My hairline is high and my hair is not yet long enough to cover it.  I just wish hair grew faster than 1/2" a month!  I bought a wig that looked exactly like my own hair did - in fact, most people are shocked when they find out it is a wig.  Both my family doctor and my radiologist thought it was my real hair and wondered out loud how I did not lose my hair during chemo!!  It was pretty funny!  When my grandkids spend the night with us, I try to get them used to me with my short hair.  My 4 year old grandson didn't say anything when he saw me at breakfast, but about an hour later, he walked into our living room with my wig, still didn't say anything, but he put the wig on my lap and walked away!!  My husband and I laughed out loud!!  I put the wig on and said, "Now do I look like Grandma?"

lalenlou, thats so funny what these little ones think, my nephew didn't like me without the wig either and was always wanting to "go get it for me" when I didn't have it on lol

Lalen, same thing happened to me and my grandson. I was having a hot flash so I took my wig off, as I always do, my grandson looked up at me and did a double take and just said "put your hair back on grammy". He had not seen me without my wig, and was only about 4 as well, so I guess I shocked him, my bad.
