My last chemo was 17mths ago, 2 yr survivor this monthSmile  My hair growth was slow the first several months, fuzzy out of control. Products were my friend. I am 53 yrs old and realize I look better in shorter hair!  I get so many compliments, going to keep it sassy and short.  It grows so fast now I could cut it every 2-3 weeks.

A great tip for getting through the initial stages of hari growth is to take pics of oyur head once a month. When yu compare the pics you will be reassured that it is indeed coming back. If you stare in the mirror every day you will make yourself nuts.

Hello -- I am not a patient but I came across this wonderful site looking for suggestions for help re alternative treatments, less challenging approaches and doctor recommendations for my 90 year old mom in Georgia.  Anyway, the feedback that I am getting in other topic areas is so encouraging, I wanted to give back and share in any way that I can.  Accordingly, because I grew back my hair after Alopecia completely jacked me up a few years ago, here's a link to a forum that totally helped me regain even better hair than I had before:  longhaircareforum.com  It is geared towards African American women but if you know anything about hair, you know that AA hair can be infinitly more challenging on so many levels (to grow, maintain, etc.) than other ethnicities; accordingly, all races/ethnic groups seem to benefit from the wealth of info and sometimes unorthodox tips shared on this forum -- ranging from how to use and mix Monistat topically for your scalp, to evaluations of which supplements are bogus and which yield results, to comparing Nioxin to Rogaine, which type of castor oil is better for regrowing hair, how to mix and use henna as a growth enhancer, not just for color, why raw food diets help your hair grow, etc.  The other forum: longhaircommunity.com is good too but it isn't as well organized (IMO) and seems a bit more filtered.  Anyway, that's my 2 cents -- back to making more calls and finding info for my Mom.

Hello all!I am about 15 weeks PFC and my hair is ~ 1/2 inch long now. I can't wait to get my first haircut. But I don't know whether I should spend so much money to trim such short hair. When did you get your first haircut after chemo?

Hey y'all! I had my final surgery this past Monday - so nothing left but pill taking and hair growing. I've watched every YouTube video known to man ad nauseum on hair growth after chemo, so I decided to make my own. Hope you enjoy it. It's from pre-chemo to present - 6 months post chemo.

So I'm 9 weeks out now and my eyebrows, lashes and hair are coming back in. As far as the head hair goes, the sides and back are coming in quickly, dark and thick, but the top is so slow, so sparse and light. I look like George Costanza :(

Has anyone else experienced this?! I know we're all different, but PLEASE tell me I'm going to get hair back on the top of my head!!!

Txsockmonkey - great video! Wow, your hair has grown so FAST! I wanted to take mine back to blonde but the hair stylist said no bleach yet :-(

Was yours bleached to get to that color or was it colored (non-bleach)?

You're a beautiful young woman and seeing young women with this cancer **** just makes me so mad. Seeing ANYONE with it angers me but I get particularly angry about young women. BUT (!) you seem to have a great attitude! I listened to it with the volume turned down (hubby is watching television) but I could see your great attitude shining through!

I am so tired of wearing wigs! My hair just isn't growing in as nice as some of yours.. or maybe my head isn't shaped as nice.. plus the back is longer, top goes every which way even though its only maybe an inch.. and I have cowlicks --- did go to my hair stylist and he tried to trim it to have it growing in evenly but said, hope you don't think you are leaving here with a do.. LOL

I went out this weekend wigless n scarf-less- it was a first for me .. I have really short hair 1 inch maybe and it is growing whichever way it wants..and has some wave in back.... I made sure I put makeup on and earrings -anyway, I noticed that other women gave me such strange looks .. it was annoying... I was at a mall so it wasn't women I knew but some looked at my head and quickly looked away.. as I passed some women in the ladies room, I smiled but not one smiled back.. honestly I felt sad about their reactions - I thought with it being Breast Cancer Awareness month maybe they'd figure out why I had the short hair but I guess I needed a t-shirt saying "I got my hair-do from Chemo".. Tomorrow I'll be wearing my wig again as I can't face this reaction at work yet..

iamNancy: Good for you! I tried to wear wigs. I lasted one week when I went back to work. Couldn't stand them!!! I'm one year PFC now (almost to the day - 10/10/12). My hair is super curly - (was long and wavy before). I use MOP C-System Curl Enhancing Cream to keep the curls from being unruly while it grows in. It seems to be starting to straighten now near my scalp. My hairdresser told me last week to just keep waiting it out. She trimmed me up and evened me off about 6 months out.

I agree with everyone else - take photos so you can see the progress. Otherwise it just seems like it's never going to come back. I look at Carols photos and get hope. It's grown so much since last year! Although my hair was always a bit slow to grow.... *sigh*

Shame on them. I go out with my hair as is and a hat because my mo made me crazy about the sun after chemo. But when people see me they know and I've had nods from woman like me as well as others. This was NYC and in my small town people keep asking when and sorry they didn't know. Last night at dinner an old friend from when I was 10. Said the first time she notice me she was afraid to say anything. Many just aren't sure what to say. However the 2 gay helpers at work think I look great since I'm spiking it on top I think people don't know what to say.

I'm happy y'all liked my video! Thank you! IAmNancy, my hair has about 15 cowlicks now. Lol. It actually is growing up at the back and bottom and directly out to the sides by my ears. If I didn't trim it every two weeks I'd look like wolverine. My hairdresser is letting the top and sides grow out, first before we even try and grow the bottom out. And yes, I bleached it. Done it twice now. I haven't even had normal shedding, so I figure I'm safe. I have however, lost my eyelashes a second time. Sigh.

TXSockMonkey, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your video. I play it all the time because I love the music and I love seeing a beautiful butterfly like you become new again. I showed my husband your pictures and he thinks you are absolutely beautiful and told me, "Soon you will be a new beautiful butterfly too, sugar". Aw, shucks!

I am sorry you lost your eyelashes, but you proved you know how to grow hair! Go get em, gorgeous.

    Love and hugs, Sandra

Ugh. Reading this thread is not making my wish for hair by Christmas very promising. Finished Chemo 5 weeks ago and though my hair is growing and getting a little fuzzy, it is VERY thin and I really don't have much on the top of my head. And the brows and lashes have completely disappeared again. I wore my hair short anyway so at least I don't have to wait for it to grow long. But really.... I work from home so didn't bother with a wig but it's been six months now and I am quite tired of scarves and hats when I go out. Having no hair during the summer didn't bother me at home but now the weather is getting cooler and my head gets cold!

When I started losing my hair it was gone within a week. I had thought it would take at least a couple weeks. Anybody else lose their hair that quickly?

I seem to be shedding what little hair I've regrown. I've read people losing their eyebrows again after regrowth but has anyone lost a lot of head hair after chemo regrowth. I finished chemo 8 months ago andy the hair regrowth was very thin and slow. I was just starting to get better scalp coverage so seeing all the falling hair again is very depressing.

Lizzy, my hair was falling out so quickly once it started that I shaved it. Most of it was probably gone by my second chemo.

Sock monkey, you truly are a beautiful woman. Great video. Sorry to hear bout your lashes. Mine seem to be thinning out again. I'm just hoping what grows back will be thicker and stronger.

I am now at the 2 year mark from when I cut my hair and sent it off to locks of love. I have only had 3 haircuts/trims. My hair raising question is one that I suppose only I can answer, but I don't know what the heck to do with my style. I wear it in a pony for now and I look like my old self (minus about another foot of hair). I did like a few of the styles I had while it has been growing out, but now I don't know if I should grow it back long or just cut it off and have a shorter style.

I think about the fact that I've been waiting for my length again, but I also liked how I looked with shorter hair. It felt like I wasn't hiding and I like my face showing. I suppose the biggest issue would be if it was short again, I would lose the pony. I know many of you are just starting out with regrowth, but just so you know... figuring out new styles can be a pain in the butt!

Hi Rockym - I'm in the same boat as you. I still have my curls and find it easier to style when it's curly because I can just make it a little wild. But I can easily blow the curls out and use a flat iron to get my old straight hair back, too. I haven't cut it in nearly a year now. So, it's got all these layers and I swear, if it's straight it just looks like a mullet and has no style at all to it. I end up with a ponytail a lot, too. Wasn't it really exciting to reach the ponytail milestone?!
I'm thinking of trimming mine this weekend to see if it helps to clean it up a bit. I still have a really hard time parting with even a little bit of it (crazy!).

Hi ladies...only 5 weeks PFC of TCH....still have Herceptin for the next year...I have fuzz for hair...anyone on Herceptin....does hair start growing or am I going to be bald until I finish Herceptin?

Any vitamins or products that help hair growth?

Jen, most of my layers have now grown out. I think that is what I am missing. When there were curls/waves with the layers, it looked like I had a hairstyle and I didn't have to do anything. I do like the ponytail, but almost feel if I leave my hair down I am just a big puff ball :-). I had long thick hair before and it's come back just as thick. You'd think I'd be digging thick hair, but when it isn't as long as before, it is too much at the in-between stage.

Maybe you hit the nail on the head in regard to "parting with even a little bit." I feel like I've made it this far and to go back to a shorter layered style would be a cop out.

ChickaD: I'm on Herceptin & Perjeta and have had two targeted infusions PFC. My head is covered with lots of growth - maybe 3/8" long.
