Luna, I just read your blog and posted a comment there. I hope it took. Just in case my comment didn't go through, I want to thank you for such a wonderfully informative blog. Congrats on your four year, post chemo cancerversary!0 -
It did take and I responded. I always respond to all comments. I'm so happy you found the post helpful. Thanks so much for checking it out & commenting.0 -
LunaTech thanks for sharing your hair growth experiences. You hair looks beautiful and healthy. You have inspired me to go look for a flat iron. I have never straightened my hair but I think I am ready to experiment.0 -
Luna: Great blog. You've helped a lot of ladies.0 -
Thanks so much to all of you who personally checked on me since I have not posted for 8-9 days.....it really touched my heart♥
So recently I was able to get AmaWaterways to sponsor 2 autumn river cruises in Europe .....for every booking they will donate $500 to breast cancer research, prevention and treatment.
I started a NEW post in the fund raising section.....
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/63/topic/815789?page=1#idx_1PLEASE
bookmark it as one of your favorites to maybe join me on one of the cruises or at least to "bump" the post as soon as I have all the info!
Thank you for your help! xoxo

I'm having a weird response. Did anyone else have continued hair growth through the chemo cycles?
When I was on taxotere/carboplatin/herceptin/perjeta - I lost all my hair around day 14 like everyone else. It started w/my private parts and everything went except eyelashes & eyebrows since I'm using Latisse. It stayed gone until chemo was done.
Now I'm on adriamycin/cytoxan. The hair on my head that had grown to 1" is gone, but I still have some fuzz. It seems to grow in between every 3 week treatment. Or at least I have continuing (new?) hair loss after each treatment. Is it just me? I'd sure like to wear my scarves & hats w/o hair falling all the time.
Unfortunately this cocktail has not removed the hair under my arms, and worst is that all the chin hairs & mustache growth that I'd been removing w/electrolysis for 5 years is back w/a vengeance. Sigh!!0 -
I started losing hair after the 14th day of taking AC. I was never completely bald but had spots of peach fuzz. When I started taxotere, the hair started growing, slowly at first but then it started filling in nicely. Unfortunately all of it is silver with a few darks roots. After 4 months of growth most of it is still under 2 inches. It is starting to get curly. I can't wait til it is longer and I can return it to its former color - JET BLACK.
MinusTwo - a friend who took the same or similar cocktail as you, had the same experience with her hair starting to grow at the end of each treatment.

Thanks Gwenny. Glad to know I'm not the lone ranger.0 -
Hi, everyone -- I haven't posted before, just lurked and searched for answers here. I'm midway throughout a 6xTC chemo regime and so have a long time to go before growing any hair back! But I wanted to tell you that advice here cleared up a nasty case of folliculitis that bothered me a lot a few weeks ago. I started to wash my scalp daily with baby shampoo, and rinsed with hydrogen peroxide followed by cream triple antibiotic until the pustules cleared up. Then just the daily shampoo keeps things clear.
But here's what I think might be NEW HELPFUL INFO -- I also washed all my new hats and head scarves in Woolite to remove the sizings (the finishes that most new fabrics have). The relief from itching and irritation was almost immediate! I think if I'd done that to begin with, I wouldn't have had nearly the problem in the first place.0 -
Hi All
Question for you ladies that are growing or have grown your hair back. I'm 4 months pfc and have good head coverage with about 1/2 to 1 inch of hair. Problem is I also have some major "face fuzz" down the sides of my face.....almost looks like mutton chop side burns. Yikes! Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it will eventually go away or if I need to start shaving !!!!!

this was an issue that really bothered me. I had the facial hairs also. I left them alone and now 6months post chemo almost all is gone and face feels smooth again. Hopefully you will have the same results. The last thing I would do right now is shave. My MO said it is best to be patient and let nature take its course before doing anything drastic.
Good luck.

Thanks Jeannine! Good to hear it eventually goes away - just looks and feels so weird. Sigh....one more thing to wait out!

I had it too...most of it now went away but for a while there, I considered shaving or laser treatments.. instead I just waited it out and tried to ignore it.

My facial hair is almost gone too, Nancy I used the Nioxin for thinning hair along with Biotin the first few months after chemo and it really jumpstarted the hair growth I think. I just ran out of the Nioxin and don't think I'll get another bottle but you should give it a try.

Is Nioxin a shampoo?
0 -
I just started using Nioxin as I am 5 months post chemo and am very frustrated with my lack of hair growth. It seems to be making a big difference.

How much Biotin do you all take? Are there different strengths? Thanks.

I haven't posted on this board in awhile, just wanted to send an updated photo. I am 2 years and 4 months out from chemo. I basically just get a good trim every 6 weeks, and I do color! The gray takes over sometimes lol!

Hello, all I'm new to this thread. For those of you taking Biotin, how many milligrams are you taking? My PCP told me about it but I haven't started yet. I'm about 1 month PFC and think I'm ready to start taking something to boost the hair growth. Also, do you need a prescription for Nioxin shampoo?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Has anyone experienced acne with taking Biotin?

ksmathews you look terrific!
candi07 I jsut take whatever they have at CVS its 5,000 mcg. It def helps. I am 3 years PFC now and I still take it because I always had kind of fine hair. I was using nioxin shampoo you don't need a script for it they sell it a lot of places I get it at beauty brands. It's three products shampoo, conditioner and a scalp treatment for about $40. I stopped using nioxin after my hiar grew in but my hiardresser is suggesting I use it again since my hiar has always been thin. So i jsut got it today and am going back to using it.

has anyone tried hair extensions ?? My hair is about an inch now but I'm starting soccer again in a few weeks and would really like a lite more hair !!!!

I need your help in locating an item, I read about on one of the chemo posts. You have a good couple of inches of your own hair cut off 'pre chemo' and the company attaches your hair to a hat or a scarf.
I see my medical oncologist on January 7th and expect to start chemo soon.
thanks

Haven't posted here for a long time. I am now 2 years 9 months out from chemo. Exactly 2 years out from Herceptin. I actually have been getting regular haircuts. It DOES grow back and in my case, very quickly. It's just that first year that seems like it takes ages.
