thanks jojo, I can't wait for that time...a year from now when it all seems like a distant dream..and I have hair to actually run my fingers through. I had curly hair so it will be interesting to see if it comes in curly...or straight
Homemom, yes nioxin had been used by some on these boards. I haven't tried it yet. But have looked it up.
Busomblues, yes you're right about looking sick without the eyebrows. I have to pencil them in everyday as soon as possible as I hate looking at myself without them. When I look close I see a few short strands, but they are colorless or white, like the head hair ugh!
Lorbgoo, I have thin white fuzzy halo of hair (I call kiwi hair) but from further than 3 feet away it still looks totally bald (to me at least)

Lisa when was your last chemo? I can't wait to start growing hair! My last chemo was May 19 so 2 weeks ago.

lorbgo, last chemo was April 21 so 6 weeks ago today.,everyone's hair growth is so different. I started getting slight fuzz about 3 weeks PFC but still very thin fine hair that is gray or colorless. No hair growth on taxol as some have gotten (I was on dd taxol 4 treatments for 2 months). Hope your hair starts to show up soon, it should! My eyelashes and brows started falling out in earnest after chemo ended, I guess they are on a different growth timeline than head hair. I'm waiting for the growth spurt..,it should be soon!

Lisaj514...I know you won't be happy to hear this...but I had my last chemo on 7/20/13 and I started going without my wig in January, 2014 and went completely wigless 2/15/2014. So that was about 5-6 months and I think that is normal. I have decided to keep my short pixie cut and have had 3 trims since the first of the year. Also want to let you know that it will take time for your hair to thicken even after it starts to gain length. And you will probably have some texture changes that will take time to resolve. My MO told me to expect it to take a year....so when chemo ended, I bought another wig to add to my collection. As it turned out, I didn't need it, so the 1 year estimate was way too long.
Happy Hair Growing to all!

I'm hoping my lashes and eyebrows hang on.

I went topless 13 weeks PFC (4/29/11. My hair grows pretty fast but a bit slower on herceptin. I did get it trimmed;/colored regularly after 13 weeks. For those who haven't seen my hair transition linky (dates on the bottom). But I have seen some people take lots of time.

Lago,
You look adorable in your hair pics

ok,ok,ok, I'm going to try to stop obsessing about my hair and try to be thankful that I got through chemo successfully, I have a good prognosis, I'm feeling pretty good 6 weeks post chemo and that at least something is happening on my head even though it isnt fast enough for me. It's all in the perspective I guess. Got to keep reminding myself that.

forgot to add another positive. I'm actually thrilled with the lack of leg hair, underarm hair, bikini area hair etc especially with the summer being here now. I wish that would last, but I'm sure once the head hair starts coming back in force the body hair will too. Oh yea, facial hair/chin hair is coming back. Greaaat! Was hoping chemo permanently killed that hair but I guess not so.

Lisaj514 , I like your attitude! To be thankful for completing treatment and having a good prognosis is a great thing. When I started my recovery from last chemo, I was so happy to be able to taste food again. My bald head didn't bother me so very much. Losing my taste buds was the WORST.

Somewhere on this I read about the easiest way to remove facial fuzz ... but can't find it again. Any advise? This is new, from taxol. Don't want to use anything that will make it worse. I think there is a small machine that someone mentioned. Thanks.

SyrMom - Lago had a recommendation. I'm sure she'll do it again for us.
Lisaj514 - Sorry to report that my leg & pubic hair is growing at a FRANTIC rate. It's not as thick, but LONG. I'm 5 months PFC. Hair on my head is almost 1" long & pixie doesn't look too bad for summer. I don't expect much faster growth since I'm on Herceptin through September.

Syrmom, if you are trying to remove light colored facial fuzz, you can buy a battery operated personal shaver for about 10 bucks at Walgreen, cvs, etc. it is a wand type shaver with a very tiny vertical shaving surface. Wish I knew the brand name... My husband uses one for neat-ening up his sideburns between haircuts.

Thanks MomMom
BosumBlues I was so worried about going poodle. I have always had straight hair. So straight that even dippity doo wouldn't hold the curls. I would have no idea what to do with curls. I did get a strange wave/cowlicks but keeping it short there wasn't much of an issue. Thanks.
We all look wonderful. I mean seriously looking 50, 60, 70 shouldn't automatically mean looking good is not normal. I think we a programmed to think looking youthful is the only way too look good. My mom is in her late 70 's and is still a good looking woman. The only reason why I say this is because lets face it most of us have weathered a bit through treatment… but in my case I think it would have happened anyway. I try to not assume all/any aging issues is because of treatment. Some of this is normal.
SyrMom I use a small trimmer by Remmington that I purchase at Ulta. It's about $10. Clio makes one too. I think Walgreens mighet also sell that one. What you do above the hair line doesn't effect the hair. It won't grow thicker or faster. Those are wives tales

Thanks, ladies. Yes, fine, white fuzz on face too. Around mouth and chin. Noticing leg hair and arm hair returning, fine, curly.

lagoo I hope I look as cute as you do with short hair.

Lorbgoo your face hasn't changed. I'm sure you will be just as pretty as you were with long hair. Be sure to use something to fill in those eyebrows. No lashes, no problem, use eyeliner.

look, look!! I didn't realize I had so much hair in the back and sides until I took a picture with my phone after a shower when it was sticking up and "fluffy". I'm so exited!

Lisa....and it is so pale, hard to see until you get your color back. I think you can officially call yourself a hairy beast! Keep sprouting and congrats on finishing chemo.

looks great Lisa! I have about thar much too but I never lost it all and it's dark brown.

Lisa, you look great! Once you get that initial fuzzy stage going, the hair seems to grow at a more noticeable rate.
Mine was blonde and very straight before chemo. It is growing in black(with some grey) and curly! It's about an inch and a half long, and I have no idea what to do with it! For right now, I wear a wig. I will continue with the wig until I can get someone to trim it into a style. I have a few wigs, and I love them, but if it could like lago I would be so thrilled! I lost all of my hair...last trt was in Oct. I lost some eyebrows, most eyelashes, and all body hair. My lashes and brows came back, but are very sparse. Body hair came back quickly.
It's interesting how each one of us is different in how the hair returns.

hmm I noticed that R eyebrow is coming in but the hair is colorless. As you can see from my avatar my hair was very curly and I wore it natural and used devacurl products for curly hair which gave my hair soft ringlets. Who knows what I'll have now as those with straight hair comes in curly. I remember in the beginning I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror without hair. Now it's ok!

Hi everyone. I had to log in today as it marks the one year anniversary of my final chemo. Wow, I can't believe it's been a whole year. In looking back it almost doesn't seem real. I've been fortunate to not need any further chemo or radiation. I did have to have a full hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, tubes, ovaries, the whole 9 yards) a couple of weeks ago and was again fortunate that all the results came back benign. That's what this past year has been for me, a time to realize how fortunate I am and appreciate the blessings when they are received. I've posted a pic I took today below of my hair growth exactly 1 year PFC. I remember when I was going through chemo and was completely bald for what seemed like an eternity and I would stalk this board and other blogs to see exactly when other peoples hair would grow and how long it would take to get to a certain milestone. For those of you at that stage, hang in there!

posted this a while back - but a lady at my cancer center told me to dice onion up - add it to shampoo bottle - wait 15 days then use regularly. I did google it & it is a legit thing - no one says how much onion or if you need to use a particular kind of onion it smells a bit in the shower but i don't notice it after that.
i will be 5 wks out from my last chemo - still on Herceptin - and it's just long enough to spike up a bit - and it is coming in pretty straight...like i said - guess i'll never know if it really helps or not but i have been using it.
nice to hear from all the lovely-locked women one year out!! we'll get there! tho, like i've said before, I am digging the freedom that comes with the super short doo

LW0919, we were dx about the same time, although I did chemo first. Tomorrow is my one year since surgery and I want to celebrate! I just wanted to say that you look gorgeous! Your hair is much longer than mine- I'm a bit jealous! But I'll try and just be happy I have hair, it's been a long difficult journey, but I'm very happy to be where I am. And a HUGE congrats on all your surgeries being B9!!!
Ladies, your hair will grow but I do know how the impatience makes you feel. I felt the same way, but when I started rads I decided to ditch the wig and own my baldness. Today I'm loving my new hair. I no longer am a slave to hair dye and really like the colour that I've ended up with-though I loved the salt/pepper I had around Xmas. More and more colour is coming back so I'm no longer gray. I've also decided to keep my hair short-which was a huge change for me as I always had longer hair. It's so nice not to have to spend so much time drying-straightening!

I am 11 months PFC and getting my hair trimmed for the first time today. I am so stressed its stupid. I swear I am worrying more about this than I did my first chemo. I have nightmares about those scissors being aimed at me, even though rationally I know I badly need a trim.......arghh

hope it went well, Donnabelle! can't wait to get there! I am still debating color...seems sad to treat my new baby hair - but a lady at the Y yesterday told me i should look into the SilverSneakers program ( i guess some insurances will pay for your membership to Y if you belong) I looked it up & you have to be 65! that's it! the salt & pepper is going! lol
