Mel, I used double-sided wig tape when I was bald. Honestly, it was much easier than fiddling with the cap every day!

I'm in awe of you ladies who are ditching the wigs and caps and just rocking the short hair. I've had longish hair my entire adult life--usually just below or just above my shoulders. I seem to have identity issues bound up in the length of my hair, and while my new "real" hair is growing, I just look in the mirror and tell myself that I'm not a short-haired person. As I type, I can glimpse the wig on either side of my face in my peripheral vision, and it's just reassuring to me. And on a practical note, my ears really stick out--my late father's DNA.

So it's the wig for now. Until. We'll see.

On another note, I'd forgotten one small pleasure each morning, that half second of the shampoo's scent when you're rubbing it into your hair. Normally I never notice it, but this morning I took note that it was back!

rainnyc, I could have written this. Totally agree: " I've had longish hair my entire adult life--usually just below or just above my shoulders. Rainnyc - Oh that makes sense!!! Awwww I hear you...I had long blonde hair, amazing hair that I never fussed with and was never vain about, but everyone always commented on it. So going short I too would say Im not that girl!!! BUT...I have 2 wigs now and my original my Hairdresser cut it up in a shorter style for me to transition. I was actually surprised in that...it just gave me a different look. Im thinking a little different now as in open to trying new things and obviously I can always grow it long again...but it did take a bit to convince me of shorter hair LOL.

This is the long and short of it hahaha!!!

rainy and Mel I can relate to the short hair not feeling like us. I look at pics pre bc and miss my blonde/brown (bronde!) long bob. I had highlighted blonde hair for over 20 years and thick straight hair that always brushed my shoulders. I miss it every day. I look at my speckled fuzz and think that's not me. It was worse when I had no brows or lashes. I never wore my wig. It was the exact match of my old hair. I guess I always felt fake in it or maybe it was just too hard missing my old look. Sad that I can't wear it because it is a beautiful wig. Just not me...now. I am learning to be ok with my fuzz. Maybe when it gets fuller or I can dye it. Patience I keep saying...

    Patience is entirely the issue!

Melclarity, that's a good idea to give the wig a trim to a shorter length. I've been toying with that idea, just to clean up the ends, if nothing else.

Thanks for making me feel as if I'm not the only one out there with issues about going public with the hair I've got now--as opposed to the hair I wish I had. Normally, I'm pretty good about facing facts, but this one has gotten the better of me.

Think I'm going to dye it one of these days and see what happens. The hair, not the wig!

RainnyC - It was a big decision for me to cut that first wig into a short style..but everyone comments on HOW different I look, they LOVE IT. I say reinvent yourself! you can eventually go back to long hair when it grows!!!

yes - 3 mos after they start coming in, brows and lashes can fall out - my brows got way thin again. BUT they grow back LIGHTENING Fast - what happens is that all those hairs have the same "start date" and they usually only last 3 months but they usually have varied start dates so you don't notice one here or there. when they all start at the same time, you'll lose them again as they cycle restarts. BUT it's quick, and I don't think it's all at once for the whole brow. Mine got thin - and left enough to know where to fill in with brow powder and a brow pencil easily.

Peachy-Madonna was amazing! I have liked her since I was 14. Best concert I have seen, she is smoking hot for 57 years old.

Now that my hair is longer my wig itches. Drives me nuts actually. I have had long hair most of my life too so this is a huge change for me. Apparently I have the bone structure for short hair.....so I've been told. It is strange, when I look at pics of me with hair it feels like that is a totally different person. It doesn't feel like me anymore. In essence it isn't me anymore. I am looking forward to trying some cute short hairstyles. I never would have cut my hair to do it before but now that I have the chance I am going to have fun with it.

Hang in there ladies. We got this! Look how far we have come.

    Looks great Jabe!

My eye brows are Bobbi Brown. I broke out all over my face from the make up in my LGFB bag. My face and eyes swelled and I had angry red blotches all over. I was on Benedryl and a prescription cream for a week. So all my makeup is either Bobbi Brown or Clinique. My eye lashes are way too slow coming back along with my lashes.

Yes, thanks for all of the pics! You guys look great, regardless of what your hair looks like.

If I can just weigh in on the long hair thing: I've always been a short hair person; my face is too long to look good with long hair. That said, I've also always been one to experiment with funky cuts, color, etc., and losing my hair made me feel like a creative outlet was gone! Before chemo, I was rocking a blonde/blue mohawk and getting more compliments than I ever had before on my hair. . . And, sure, it's nice to get compliments on my favorite purple hat, but I'm DYING to have messy hair again. It's weird, and something I've really been mindful of, that so much of my identity, or at least how I present that identity to the world, was tied up in the hair on my head.

Dee, I hear you on the "I'm not that person anymore" stuff. Seriously. I'm not the person I was six months ago, either. In all honesty, no one is the same person that s/he was before, but something about all of this really hammers that point home, doesn't it?

Happy weekend, ladies! May the gods and goddesses of hair growth smile upon us all.

I've had long hair most of my adult life and funny thing is that I kept it in a ponytail most of the time. For the last few years I've thought about going really short but was afraid that I would hate it. I was just thinking how now I get to try those short styles and see how I like them. If not, I'll just let it keep on growing.

Jabe- looking good. Feels so good to have enough hair to go without your wig. I did leave the house yesterday without my hat(for warmth). I did ok but with the snow, cold and wind my Elmer Fudd hat will still have to come out. Just to keep me from freezing to death. I can't leave it on very long because I get hat head now....yay for hat head because that means progress!

Had two blonde wigs that had darker "roots". I looked so young in them but I don't know how I would get hat look from the hair dresser:

Dee and Kate is agree with you both about not being that person anymore. That person in my pictures was great but I am so much more than that now. I'm gonna rock my tiny fuzz and try those cute short cuts that I too was never brave enough to to do. I haven't had short hair since I was 12 and cut my very long hair for the first time ever. I loved it but big 80's permed hair was in then and I let it grow in and went frizzy. Maybe I will get nice curls since I had poker straight hair pre-chemo. And maybe I will actually keep it brown and not dye it blond

I think all y'all look great! I'm sitting here getting my first TC so the clock has started. My hair is so thick and heavy I'm almost looking forward to losing it... as long as it grows back, that is.

Best of luck to you, Paxton29!  My hair was very curly and thick.  It was irritating and uncomfortable for a few days before it started to fall out, so I was actually relieved to have it shaved.  Just coming back to the land of unbaldness - and it is as curly as ever, pooh.  Growing in all directions.  It has a mind of its own for sure.

I trimmed my grandpa fuzz today and now I feel like a new woman.

Haha--maybe that's an exaggeration, but I do feel better. I can see the new growth much better, now.

Kate - Just last night I was admiring all the dark hairs that I can see now that the white fuzz is gone. I'm not quite as gray as I thought!

Is anyone else having hair dreams? Last night I dreamed I had long, brown, curly hair but I still had stubble in front.

Vickirides - I have been having hair dreams! In my dreams I am always surprised to discover I have long hair on the sides and in back but the top is super short or bald! In reality I am 10 weeks out and have very little hair and worried it's not coming back. Pre chemo I had long thick hair that grew super fast. Maybe it will be better once I finish Herceptin.

Sher, I've read that a lot of us on Herceptin have slow hair regrowth. I think it just goes with the territory.

Re: dreams. . . YES. In two dreams in particular, I've had lovely, wavy, auburn hair. I'm naturally (graying) strawberry blonde, and what's coming in looks a lot like what fell out. . . .
