I have decided to embrace my gray. When it is a little longer I am going to have white highlights put in...Jamie Lee Curtis style. It was dark brown before chemo, now the dark hair is black, and mostly pewter gray.

LorieKg - I'm probably overly careful, but my derm doc & hairdresser both told me it could be up to a year before new hair from the scalp/roots was not damaged. My hair came back thick & continues to get thicker so I'm guessing original damaged hair was shed along the way. My hair was mostly grey and came back mostly dark brown so I haven't messed w/it. My hair was a little wavy, came back VERY curly, then changed to mostly straight. I've always worn it shoulder length or longer, but I've kept it short so far - not quite a year after final Herceptin. It's a little longer than Annie Lennox but more smooth like hers instead of spiky like Jamie Lee Curtis.
Lago had some good advice earlier in this thread about coloring.

I'm about three weeks behind you, hair length not too far off, but your brows, in contrast to mine, have definition. Mine keep falling out just as I think I'm safe to do some tweezing. If I had a nickname just now, it would be Patches.

My husband took this pic of me yesterday at 16 1/2 weeks pfc. I wish I had a little more hair like you, but it's coming in thick. No more wigs, just long earings from now on!

Sloan and Pennsygal looks great! I am 24 weeks past chemo. My hair is about the same but no brows yet and limited eyelashes. So I am jealous!

At 11 weeks PFC, I am starting to see the brows come back, and the hair looks a bit better every day. Hubby calls it my 'Sinead O'Connor' stage. I figure another week or two and I will be brave enough to post a pic....I probably won't know for sure for a few weeks, but it is apparently mostly the dark brown it was before. I am interested to see if I have any new grey hairs but can't tell yet.
I never thought I'd even get to this stage. Such a relief. Going earring shopping with you as inspiration Sloan! Thanks so much for posting the pics.

I'm with you, octogirl. Getting closer every day, but just not brave enough to go without the hat yet. I'm definitely at Sinead O'Connor stage, if Sinead O'Connor ever just shaved the sides of her head at the temples. :O

pennysgal and Sloan- you both look great. Sloan you are just a bit ahead of me and are looking great. I too have ditched my wig. It is just too itchy.
Yesterday I had a hair sticking out on the side of my head. It was a few inches long. I pulled it out and when I looked at it, half of it was white and the other half was black. You can tell when my pigment cells kicked back into gear. I think if I would get a trim my hair would look less grey. I would get rid of those white ends. I may go this weekend with my husband to his barber. She trimmed my hair a few weeks ago(she was a hairdresser) and said she would help me grow it out. She has been through the process with a few women. Cheaper than going to my normal salon.
Kate you are getting close if you are just waiting for the temples to fill in. Soon

Justmaximom, I am impressed by how long yours is on the sides! At 12 weeks mine is no where near that.

Thanks Peachy. It's been long on the sides and back for a while now but the front and top has just started filling in within the last couple of weeks. I might play with it a bit tonight using some pomade or something and see if it looks more filled in when it's slicked down.
When I first started wearing turbans and head wraps, I really got into it and was very matchy matchy. 7 or so months later and I'm ready to kick them all to the curb.

Peachy, I'd love to see progression photos. I'm under the impression that the magic happens at week 12.
Edited to add this: Justmaximom, I hear you on the matchy-matchy and now not caring. I have tons of hats and have worn most of them, but now I have one purple hat that I love and wear almost every day, a striped hat that I wear at home, and a black hat that I wear sometimes. I'm ready to wash and donate all of them, but I think I'll save these three for the Michigan winters that won't stop even when I have hair again.

I haven't worn head wraps or hats, though am feeling the same way about my wig that I did about my black maternity pants that were one of the last things that fit in my 8th month of pregnancy.

Peachy, I'm with you on the wig. SO tired of it, but I don't want to go around with super short hair. I just took a photo of me without the wig, and I hated it. Just hated it. Maybe in another month or two I'll feel differently.
Give me a head of hair, long beautiful hair, shining, gleaming, streaming flaxen waxen....

My husband and ten year old son went to the barber today. I still have less hair than they do! And theirs is really short!! Soon we will have the same hair style, and I will still want to cover it up.

Kate yay for hair! It looks like it's curling over the sides of your glasses. It's filling in nicely. And I hear ya about the fav hats. I have a purple one I love, and a grey skull cap that I wear constantly. The grey is my woobie. It makes me feel better in it. It's light and soft. I feel secure when I wear it and want to hide from hair galkers who stare at my head.
Octo when you feel up to it maybe just post an eyebrows up shot? That made me feel more comfy when I did mine last week.

Dee if you decide to get a cut can you let us know if it helps with getting rid of the grey? I too have a lot of grey up top but and getting darker in the back. Today I feel just washed out. Missing color badly. Need to feel pretty real soon.
Does anyone know how long it takes for the colorless, white, grey fuzz to turn darker? Or does it ever turn darker?

Hi, I wanted to share that after those first weird little fuzzies grew in, and looked shaggy, I buzzed it back down to a shorter, uniform length. It was hard to do, I was proud of every one of those stragglers, but I was glad I did, as the new growth looked better. And it grew in better, not super patchy like it had started back. Just a thought for you all with new growth, I am sure you all look amazingly beauiful... stragglers or not!

It seemed like a couple of weeks from my white baby fuzz to my stubble of real hair. My eyebrows are absent. My lashes are sparse. I put texurizer in my hair and mohawked it for work. My 8th grade DD who goes to the same school I teach at said "Oh Hell no, Mom!". Her hair is about 24 inches long, shiny medium brown with highlights. Beautiful, like her.

I trimmed my grandpa fuzz last week, and it helped to even things out. Might do it again this week

Interesting about your husband and son, Peachy. I'm kind of using my son as a benchmark. He has hair that's similar to mine in texture (wavy), though his is a lighter brown. Because he's a teen who discovered the use of the comb(!) only comparatively recently, he's coiffed within an inch of his life these days, with hair that's between 3 and 5 inches long. I think I'll be much happier when I have hair that's longer than his.
But in the meantime, it does gives me great pleasure to see his hair. It's really gorgeous. He'd kill me if he knew I'd written that.

tjh, too funny! I love that you were going to work with a faux-hawk, because I am nowhere near that brave.
rainynyc, my son got his dad's straight, thick, coarse hair. It sticks up straight, and refuses to comb flat. We call it the "special quick-dry hair" because it doesn't stay wet for long. And he's telling me "Mom, when your hair gets as long as mine, you won't need your wig! " Ah, yes I will!
I didn't have the grandpa hair stage, somehow. Just baby chick fuzz, then hair, and the gray hairs are outpacing the dark hairs. I knew they always seemed to grow faster! Extreme facial fuzz has also arrived, and will need to be addressed this weekend.
