I finally did it this week. Starting Wednesday I went to work with no head covering. I was sick at my stomach walking in that first day but everyone has been really nice and one of my managers even brought me in some shampoo and conditioner yesterday for hair regrowth. I pretty much hate the color and can't wait to color it, but it is hair, and I couldn't stand wearing something on my head anymore with it getting warmer and the damn hot flashes from Tamoxifen.

I felt the same way when I went back to work as it wasn't too much hair. I was able to use the flat iron to try to get rid of the ringlets. You hair looks like it is cooking in wavy. Looks good

Oh Bjsmiller I laughed when I read your comment. I have never dyed my hair. Only ever had the tiniest bit of grey at the temples. That's the colour it has "come in". Although you can't see it from that photo it is very grey at the sides now. Much, much more grey than I ever had before so think I will be hitting the dye bottle soon. Just waiting for a bit more length. My Daughter In Law is a hairdresser so will ask her about "safe" dyes. Donna.

Smurfette...I tried to dye mine....highlights to brighten up the dead mouse grey. My hairdresser uses no chemical organics. The highlights lightened up yellow and then would not take the color to make it silver. Nearly 4 hours later and 3 formulas later no luck. Clairol purple toner shampoo and conditioner make the highlights white so it looks good....So I won't be trying color again on my post chemo hair.

I had mine colored at a salon at 4 1/2 months. I asked for semi permanent, which is what i did pre chemo anyways. They used Shwazkoff (sp?) brand. It has held up very nicely and it's four weeks now. I tried to convince myself to stay with the gray but I finally realized I was really stressed and uncomfortable about the gray hair and that this was something I could control. I felt so much better after i colored it.

I used non permanent. Washes out in 26 washes. Problem was I had to try three different colors before I got the right brown. 1st time was orange. 2nd time was dark orange then third time an accaptablebrown. My suggestion is get it done at s salon. Ever since then I have let my salon color for me. They use a less harsh dye on my hair since I am stating to thin with the Letrozole!

I dyed mine when it was half an inch long. I was told to stay away from oranges and reds, so I did dark brown and it came out fine. Then I experimented with some dark auburn, and my hair definitely sucks up the red, so back to dark chocolate next time. Initially I used anything, but then switched to hair color from the organic market.
I wanted to try henna, but was worried about the red, and also read online difficult to color over henna in the future.
One year from final chemo, and I have 70s wings!

I figure in a couple of months I will have the 80s big hair look lol! I definitely went through the 40s and the 50s style hairdos! Kinda liked those. Everybody at work said my hair looked like the kind of wave people used to use Bobby pins to make haha

I chopped all my hair to a bob before I started. It was long, thick and curly before. Two-thirds fell out two weeks after the first AC.
Bits and pieces have fallen out since.
I'm really glad I haven't shaved it! I wear a scarf most of the time and people wouldn't even know I'm semi-bald under it. In fact, I took my daughter to a walk in hairdresser the other day, and the hairdresser assumed I was the one in for a cut!
I had my first taxol today, so don't know whether to expect to lose the rest, or what to do with it once it starts regrowing. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I shaved mine...It felt better, with it falling out my scalp actually hurt. Mentally I was better with it gone, then a handful coming out every time I touched it.

I colored mine last month at 4 months pfc with permanent color with my mo's ok. He said go for it and I'm glad I did. I had thoughts about keeping the gray but like twiggy I felt better after. My grey was my safety blanket during rads.

I'm exactly 6 weeks PFC, and the hair is definitely growing, but it's so gray!!! I've been coloring it for so long, I guess I've been in denial. I wish I could embrace it, but 41 is just too young for this much gray hair. I am going to hit the hair dye as soon as it seems long enough to do so.

OMG Shopgal yours looks so great! I am almost 4 months out now too but don't have anywhere near as thick of hair as you. I just decided last week to go without the wig/scarves but I am hating it. It is really thin on the sides and the color is just dull and so not what I have always had. It really is amazing how much your hair can affect your mood and your confidence.
What kind of hair color did you use?

hey southern! You look awesome. So cute and curly. I think you are right we have the same hair now. Lol. I use bed head curls rock and curly shampoo. Love it! It's just wash and go. I swear I'm keeping it short for awhile esp in the humid summer.
Kelly mine was that grey at 5 weeks. I think it took off at 8 weeks. The curls came out after I dyed it last month. Here is my grey shot I posted 2 months ago. I owe my fast regrowth to biotin.

MySpaulding I really felt more confident after dying it. I also wore my woobie hat most of the time when I was grey regrowth in Jan and feb. I felt self conscious with so much grey at 45. I started to get more darker grey/brown grow in after 4 months.
Hang in there regrowth ladies. It does come back. The best thing I did was take weekly selfie shots of my head each week so I could see the growth and changes. Sometimes it's easier to see when you look at pics. Hope this helps.

Thanks Shopgal, what kind of hair color did you use? Did you do it by yourself or go to a professional. I swear I stared at all the hair color in the pharmacy today for like 20 minutes and ended up leaving with nothing.

I also took weekly if not daily photo shots, and really worried that it wouldn't come back. But it has, though curlier and a bit thinner than before (and still short). now it is getting thick enough on top that I am giving thought to actually getting a trim!

Looking great SouthernCharm and Shopgal2. My hair has come in so grey too. Was just wondering what dye you used Shopgal2? I read a post on this site about a lady's hair going orange after she had it coloured post chemo. I spoke to my Daughter In Law who is a hairdresser and she suggested I wait 6 months post chemo before colouring as it can go orange. She also said to look for dyes that are ammonia free. In the meantime she suggested I try pigmented shampoos and conditioners. She said they may add a little colour but won't cover the grey. Looks like I'm embracing the grey for another couple of months. Donna.

That might have been me. Mine turned orange. I used a NonPermanent without Amonia. Washes out in 26 washes. My hair came back white gray. It was 5 1/2 months after finishing chemo that I was able to go without the wig but needed to dye it. Figured I would try it myself. 3 trips back and forth to CVS until it ended up an okay brown. Have to be careful picking colors. I think I tried medium brown first. Then medium ash brown. Final was dark brown. After that I went to the salon when it needed to be done.
