Ugh, I think my DH has the flu....

Oh No Jan!  Are we talking the stomach bug or the honest to God flu virus?

I know we are having outbreaks of it here.  My husband, son and I have all had the shot but my college age daughter isn't due to get it until her appointment on the 12th!

She was supposed to get her shot when they offered it at her college and, of course, didn't!  Now I'm just crossing my fingers that we're not too late.  I remember last time we all had the flu and, I do believe, it is the closest I have ever felt to "I'm going to die from this".  It was JUST awful.

Well, it came on suddenly today with diarrhea and vomiting but he's carrying a 100.6 fever so I don't know. Since there is fever I'm assuming he has an infection somewhere. I hope it's not the full blown flu..Just gave him 2 more tylenol and he had soup for dinner.

We don't take the flu shot.

And you know how men are when they are sick...Ugh!

Hope he feels better and that you don't catch it!!

Seaside, I'm going to let you decide for me. And thanks for the encouragement and support. I seriously think the most important of the three things I let go was not checking in here enough - I thought I could stop thinking about it and go on auto pilot. Mostly not-smoking is easy for me. But there are those moments... sigh....

When my DH is sick he is a complete lunatic. Actually pretty funny, and I've written some of his rants down because they're hilarious. He just gives in to feeling bad and does a sort of sick-man standup comedy routine about how he's not long for this world and is that the white light?? Once he wondered out loud if you could read by the white light. "Just one more paragraph, I'm almost done!"

    Kitchen

We all have 'slips' and I'm sure you will be right back on track again.

Yes, men do have a way of being sick that can be funny...after the fact!  How can we go through this disease called BC, have surgeries, treatments, and still carry on with our daily lives. Could you imagine your DH with drains!  Yell

Jan, hard to imagine him with drains but I do want to say he helped me empty mine and marked down the measurements morning and night for almost three weeks for me. He was really wonderful. When I was in the hospital and couldn't lean over all the way to get to the toilet paper he cut off a whole stack of pre-cut toilet paper for me so I could just grab it whenever. It sounds like the dumbest thing but that was one of the kindest things anyone could do! He's ready for me to be "all recovered" now. It's been almost 7 weeks .. I do feel really well.

That was a dumb slip. i'm already back on track. Will be here daily. Also need to start knitting again more (that's a good helper for me!). Thanks!

    Kitchenwitch,

We're going to just say that slip never happened!  I have every reason to believe that you will do just fine from here on out.  I have updated the list using your previous quit date of Nov 30th.  If that doesn't work for you, let me know!

    Look forward to your posts!!!

Edited to add: There is a thread here on BCO that has a group of ladies who knit/crochet individual squares that they then send to some of the others on the thread to be combined into what they have called "hugaghans".  It is an afghan, built with love, from the blocks sent in by all of the ladies on that thread and sent to a BC sister that could really use it! Check it out here http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/87/topic/502522?page=141

If you are looking to start knitting again I couldn't think of a more worthy cause.  I don't knit but CAN crochet and have eyed that thread for a long while!  I think when I get some stuff taken care of here at home, that will be something that I will do.

Hi ladies!  I am having a mother of a period and have literally felt like crap all weekend.  Still cramped up and flowing heavily...I just want to sleep and smack my DH just because he annoys me!  Petty I know, but I am still smoke free...

Seaside put me down for May 5th, 2009 as my quit date.

Welcome Newbies and Hugs to all!

    O2B,

I used to have ridiculously heavy periods so I can definitely relate!  Tamoxifen took care of that.  Had my last period the month I started taking it and haven't had one since.

I think I was peri-menopausal  before starting Tamoxifen and onc said there was a 50-50 chance that would happen.  Can't say I miss that at all!

Hope you're feeling better and that your DH escaped without too much harm!!  I have a friend who, whenever she is telling a story about something that made her really mad, would say "I was sooo mad I could have slapped a nun!" Your wanting to smack your DH made me think of her!

I've got you added to the list!

My quit date is August 10, 2010.

I actually quit about two weeks before my BMX (7/8/10), but I smoked a little more after I got home after surgery, I was bored and had too much time on my hands. Sigh ... but for all those who have slipped, that doesn't mean you have to give up. I LOVE being a non-smoker. It had really become a pain to be the only smoker at home, in my family, out in public. Seems like I was always looking for somewhere I could have a cigarette!

SeasideMemories, I am so touched! Like a reprieve or a second chance. And thanks for the afghan squares link. Nice to have a project to be involved in. I do think coming here and also keeping my hands busy is my key.

    Bama,

Glad to hear you are doing well.  It IS really nice to not have to find a place to smoke or, in my case go outside in the freezing cold! Boy, it was REALLY cold here today... Got you added to the list!

    Kitchenwitch,

I am a BIG believer in second chances!  Sometimes I think we learn more from trying and struggling than we do from success right away!  Take what you were meant to learn from your slip and use it to your advantage!

While the destination is to quit, I know I found out a lot about myself on the way there! Hope the same is true for you!

You can DO this!!! Post when you need to and KEEP those hands busy!!!

The roll call list is just about complete!  I think it will definitely help us to keep track of each other's milestones and, hopefully, make it easier for everyone to see who else is in the same timeframe as they are.

I'm going to hold off just a bit longer, in the hopes that we will hear from sweetaerobabe (haven't heard from you lately and HOPE all is OK) and Dutchy.

For any of the girls just starting off.... If you want your name added as thinking about quitting (yes, that's a real and very important stage), that would be wonderful!  Just let me know!

    Jan,

I hope you haven't come down with your husband's flu!!!

    Hi All:

Just catching up with all the wonderful posts lately..we are certainly getting this thread rolling!

Jennifer: No I didn't get my DH 'bug'. Took him to dr. today because he was having a fever but they still think it's not the flu but a virus.  Gave him some meds for nausea, I'm hoping tomorrow he will feel better. He had an appetite tonight so I'm saying that's a good thing,  NO more running to the bathroom too.

I love the afghan thing but I don't know how to knit or crochet but what a great idea.

Kitchen: Your DH sounds wonderful and so thoughtful.  My DH was also very helpful with my drains.  He wasn't too crazy about doing it but he did like a trooper!

Linda and DS: Congrats on your quit anniversarys!  Very proud of you.

    Hi all, I am here.

Quit 12/11/10 (but been having 1 here and there when I bumm from my daughter) but happy to say I have not bought a pack. Just little slips here and there.

I had my 3rd TCH today, and shot tomorrow, so I may not be on for a bit.

    sweetaerobabe,

Just logged out and then saw your post... Had to log back in to say glad you are OK!!

Understand perfectly that you are in the middle of treatment and can't always be here.  Not sure if you want to be included in our roll call list.  I don't want to include anyone without their OK.

If you want to shall we still use your 12/11/10 date?

Hope all goes well for you and that your treatment was uneventful and with NO side effects!  I need someone to watch idol with me!!! Laughing

    Jan,

Glad to hear your husband is doing a bit better and that you are doing well too!  I was a bit worried when I saw you hadn't posted all day!  Sometimes those stomach viruses go through everyone in the house very quickly! Not Fun!!

I learned to crochet from my aunt when I was a teenager.  Haven't done a whole lot with it since!  I'm hoping it's like riding a bike... Once you learn you don't forget!  We shall see... lol!

    Laurie08,

I was hoping we would hear from you!  You have been added to the list!!

You're on for Idol!!!  I'll have to see how I do early in the season as I tend to be somewhat uncomfortable when the contestants are not all that good.  But, I am definitely in once they get going!

Looks to be an interesting season with  new judges and with Simon gone!  Not sure how far back you have read in this thread but, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith is going to be a judge AND our very own sweetaerobabe has met the guys from Aerosmith!  Such a COOL thing!!!

I had all of their albums growing up!

Seaside, Im off to get my ultrasound now, but wanted to say yes, use my 12/11/10 date.

And not only did I meet Aerosmith, I won an MTV contest, had Thanksgiving dinner with them in Germany in 1994, have Stevens autograph tattooed on my chest, and met them about 6 times after that! So yeah, I'll be watching Idol this year and looking forward to it!!!! Never seen a man over 60 look so hot. He's still got it. (oh, and those lips, kissed my tattoo) Tongue out

Today is THE DAY. 1/4/11.  Add me to your list please.

When I was diagnosed with COPD after my bout with pneumonia last year I knew I had to.  I started by cutting back from my 2+ pack a day habit and made it to just under a pack a day when I got the BC dx.  I've always been a stress smoker----.  I managed to keep to a pack or less but it has taken until now to build back that resolve and need to quit.

By the way, I felt at home on this thread as soon as I checked in---women I already know from other threads.

    OMG sweetaerobabe!!

I think I may just faint! That must have been so amazing!

Although, I guess this finally explains why he never returned MY calls... He was spending all his time with YOU!!... LOL

Good luck today on your ultrasound!

And as for him still being hot, I certainly wouldn't kick him out of my bed for eating crackers! lol
