Stop Smoking Support Thread

Welcome chabba!!
I too smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs per day for over 30 years and began, just like you, by cutting back.
Glad to see that you recognise some of the ladies here from other threads!
I think that you will find this to be a GREAT group of women who are always here to help celebrate the milestones AND give support during the rough patches!
I have added your name to the list. You are the first person from our group to quit in 2011 AND the first post on page 123... Must be a good omen !!!
Look forward to hearing more from you soon.

A bit later today, I plan to post what we have for our roll call... It can always be updated and re-posted if someone wants to be included later!

chabba- I couldn't agree more.
I am still cranky and feeling depressed about everything. I really don't want any more surgeries, but I really do want the TE's taken out. I am hoping my mood willlift once the surgery is over with. I feel like I am having a harder time with this surgery looming, even more than my BMX. Augh.
I had my pre op phone call today with the nurse. I confessed to my cheating with being smoke free and told her how much/often etc. She was SO nice and made me feel so much better. She said the amount that i smoked won't negatively effect by anesthesia and I shouldn't worry about it. I told her I was afraid my PS would cancel my surgery when he found out. She said she know my PS well and that she is sure he is going to have a little talk with me before my surgery but that he shouldn't cancel it. Her words were, "if you'de been smoking a half pack a day or more consistently right up to it he would cancel. You've been mainly smoke free with some slips, it will be fine, try and relax about it and don't beat yourself up." So that's what I am trying to do. Although I am not looking forward to seeing the PS before surgery and being told what an idiot I am
My mood for the moment is still "blah".

Laurie08,
Good for you for letting the nurse know! I am so glad that she was able to ease your mind that all will be OK. See, all that worrying for nothing!! I think that situation truly shows that WE tend to be harder on ourselves than the rest of the world is! Yeah, you may get that "wonderful" look and the "talk" from the PS BUT you are good to go for your surgery.
Sorry that you are still feeling down! You know what, here's what might help. Calculate how long you HAVE to be smoke free before and after your surgery and note that date. Make that date your absolute, I will not smoke number of days, and then count DOWN to that date. Once you reach that date, whether or not you want to continue is your choice! While, ultimately your goal is to quit for good, it may not be where you're at right now BUT you do have to get through your surgery and recovery time! Just a thought!
There was a person on this thread a long while back that decided to quit smoking when she started Tamoxifen due to the increased risk of blood clots. Typically pre-menopausal women will do Tamoxifen for 5 years before switching to one of the AI's. I remember her post after 1 day non-smoking saying something to the effect of One Day Down and 4 years 364 days left to go!!!
Hang in there!! It really does get better!

Here's our current roll call!! Hopefully it makes it easier for us to keep track of each other's anniversaries and gives us a way to see who's in the same time frame as we are!
If anyone needs to go back to see, it doesn't hurt that it's on page 123... Should be easy to remember!

Not me, Jennifer will be 1 year and you can definitely count me in. I'll supervise the servers (I don't know how to post pics to this forum). I'll be sure they are 'comfortable' and have all they need to be the best servers.

Jan,
I DO love a good party!! lol
I am just so happy to see how our group has grown! This thread seemed to be very active in the fall of 2009 when I was thinking about quitting but not posting. Seemed like it kind of fizzled in January 2010 right around the time I quit. Hmmm.. I DO hope there's not a connection there!
Back then I think there were just three of us trying to quit, Dutchy, a woman named Jancie (hope you are doing well) and me! O2B would pop in and help us out too!
Just glad we all found each other!

Sorry Jan and Jen. TYPO! Those hot servers are for Jen!!
Where is Jancie? Haven't heard from her in some time!!
Jan to post pix, go to google and click images (to the right of web) then google something like tropical drinks. Then click on one you like then right click and select copy then right click and paste into your post. It will ask if you want to allow and say yes. You may have to do it again. Click in the post and do it again. Then you are good.

Jen:

Thanks Barbara: I'll try it.

Barbara,
Jancie was posting regularly early in 2010 and then had a set back. She was back with us this past fall but, haven't heard from her since. She owns the most beautiful horse you've ever seen and suffered a really bad fall. Was having problems with pain as a result of her fall last I heard from her. Just hoping that all worked out OK for her!
Jancie,
We miss you and wish you would come back!!! Hope all is well with Jazzy!

Thinking of you, my friend, and hoping all is well!!
