    Jan,

I AGREE!! It IS the Tamoxifen..... At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it....  All kidding aside, I mentioned it to my onc and he totally agreed that it does cause weight gain AND also makes it harder to lose weight gained from... errrr.. shall we say other sources.

Although..... I found this and I think it MAY be an fairly accurate depiction of what happens to me once chocolate enters the room...

    To All the Southern Gals...

Please send some of your warmth to your sisters up north.... We're freezing (although not as bad as last week)!!!

Seaside: Not to rub it in, but .... it's beautiful here today. DH and I have been out all morning running around. Even had to turn the AC on in the car after it had sat in the sun during lunch. 70 degrees and sunny. So welcome after the unusual snow we had a couple of weeks ago!

    Bama,

Yes, you all have had a pretty rough time of things this year!  ENJOY the warmth!  Although the snow is beautiful and I do enjoy the change of seasons, I have found myself sitting and reading in a chair near the window... The sun, when it makes an appearance, feels soooo nice and warm!  Really does lift your spirits!  Last week was BAD even for here!  It was so cold it almost gave you a head-ache to be outdoors! This week the temps have moderated a bit so not too bad!  I feel bad for the people along the coast, they are just getting snow storm after snow storm!!

As for 70 degrees, outside, we'll have to wait another 5 months or so... Boooo!

Seaside, I can't wait that long for 70's, saw a tshirt that said the 4 seasons of Buffalo - winter, winter, winter, August.  But we have avoided the high amounts of snow that D.C., Boston, and New York have gotten, only get about 2-3 inches out of each storm.  Two weeks without smoking, and am browsing on the Fitness thread, got a stationary bike this week, have used it each day, once I get to a respectable length of time on it would like to join your team.  I see other members of this thread on the fitness thread.  Karen

    karen333,

The Buffalo area has such a reputation for huge snowfalls but this year has just been SO different... Rather than the Western part of the state getting clobbered, it's been the Eastern part, with a little spill-over into central NY, almost every week!

Good for you for checking out the fitness threads!  You will find, I think, that doing some form of exercise will help you so much with not smoking, especially if you exercise during those times of day where the cravings may be especially strong! I know it helped me quite a bit!

However you choose to exercise... ...individually or as part of a group, I hope you will find, as I did, that  you feel so much better when you do it even though, in my case, i just didn't want to!

Hope  to have you join us!  This week wasn't a great one for me in the weight loss department BUT I have definitely picked up the pace on my exercise!! Look out NEXT week!!!

Glad to hear you are doing well!

Edited to add:  Congrats on your 2 weeks!!!!!!!!! Things will gradually improve over the next week and THEN will improve dramatically from there!!!!  I am so proud of you and hope that you take a moment to appreciate and congratulate yourself on a job well done!!!

seaside, I love that "wall" of quit dates. I almost wish it were possible to have it appended to the lead thread.

Should you ever update this, could you please add me? Quit date: 4/27/2009!

Tamoxifen absolutely causes weight gain. We recent quitters who take or have taken Tamoxifen face an uphill battle. Luckily, I am slowly swinging back to "normal" but it has been a long haul with heart pounding exercise.

    1Athena1,

I wish it could be added to the lead post, too!  I think it is very impressive and wish it could be the first thing that people see when they come here but, I think only the original poster can change a post.

I have added your name to our growing list and will re-post it in a couple of days or so!!!

The weight thing is SO annoying!  I was doing really well and then, wham, seems like I gained so much weight in such a short time.  I have started exercising and am hoping that will do it!  Can't hurt, right?

    Glad to hear from you.

And all the weight clusters in the middle, not fair.  I have been exercising but it sure takes a lot to move that scale down a lb. There's no hope for it, I will have to add crunches - ughhhh  Karen

I hear ya on that one.... My son has a weight machine and I've just started adding some abs toning to my walking.  We'll see where that gets me!

Seems like I spoke too soon about the weather!  We're supposed to get walloped again tomorrow into Wednesday!

Guess I'll be getting a good workout at "Mother Nature's" gym tomorrow!  lol

    Bama,

Unfortunately, the reason that poor groundhog won't see his shadow is because the poor little guy is going to buried under the huge snow storm we're expecting here!!! I am NOT a fan of the winter and am just wishing this one would be done!!

1'+ expected between now and when the storm is expected to be over (Thursday).  My husband is away for the week!  Luckily my son is here to help dig out so we will do just fine!  Just a very unusual winter.....

    Hi Ladys,

I havent posted because I am ashamed to admit, I have gone back to smoking. Yell So Jennifer, you can remove me from the list for now.

I have an appointment with my family dr next week (just had #4 of 6 TCH today) and I am asking him to prescribe chantex for me. I found out medicaid will pay for 12 weeks of it.... So I am gonna try it.

My questions to those that have used Chantex - Did you have the serious side effects I hear about on the tv? and was 12 weeks enough time to actulaay quit, and are you still quit? Any advice on Chantex?

    Kristy

Sweet...you had a big slip!  Don't worry you will do this when you ar ready.

Don't be ashamed.  We love when you come here even if you are still smoking!  Who knows, maybe you'll read something that will kick it in for you.

    Anyway, keep posting and visiting.

I didn't take Chantex but I know several who did and they were fine.  Worked like a charm for them.

    We missed you

I am feeling fantastic and can not believe I had surgery today.  I have good news...I got the lift and my fat pockets (dog ears) cut off and lipo.  The bad news is I the twins did not get their nipples because he had not planned for the lift and did not want to do all at this time.  Every doctor is different.

Sweet- I too am going to check out Chantex.  I was unsuccessful this last time and feel I need to regroup.  Good luck to you.

Good luck to you too Laurie. My downfall is my daughter smokes, and its too easy to give in and bumm a couple. Im hoping the chantex workes and that I will be able to be around her without smoking. I actually asked her to get it and quit with me, but she didnt answer my text yet.

Dutchy, glad your feeling so well.

you ladies will laugh at this.  When I first wanted to sneak a few, I had no one to bumm one off of but didn't want a whole pack either.  Twice I stopped at a store and would ask the person who worked there if they smoked and both times the girl said yes.  I asked them what brand they smoked, bought that brand, took out two and gave them the pack. Funny- stupid- I figured it was better than just buying the pack and throwing it away- or smoking all 20 in a day.

I told my husband I did it, he just laughed at me and shook his head.

Sweet and Laurie, my DD used Chantix last year and stayed smokefree for 9 mos.  Then had a family emergency and started back up.  She and I were to quit together this time, me using the e-cig and she on Chantix, she is still smoking but has cut back, I haven't had a cig in 2 weeks.  Love the story of buying the clerk a pack of cigarettes  - that was quite inventive Laurie.  I had a routine in cutting back gradually, very gradually to quit.  I put 10 cig on the coffee table, that was my allowance for the day, did that for 4 days.  Then put 6 down, to last all day, sometimes I would just take a puff and snuff it out for later, did that till the last pack was gone, you have to keep yourself busy - especially that 1st week.  I used the e-cig from the very beginning, in the beginning I just held it in my hand alot like a security blanket when I wasn't smoking it.  Don't know if it appeals to you.  My DD did have very vivid, strange dreams - that was about the only side effect.  Karen

My local gas station/corner store used to sell cigarettes individually about14 years ago - ten cents a cig - that's how I started back up again after my DS was born, one cig at a time...

For me one puff is one puff too many...
