MinusTwo - My father was stationed at Hamilton AFB.  We took the bus and went to school at Novato HS.  My older brother went through his junior & senior years there.  I can remember the layout of the base and the housing.  We did live in base housing.  Our house was up on part of a hill - the tallest part in our back yard.  We used to climb it all the time.  On a clear night we could see across the bay all the way to Sausalito.  I loved living up there.  Guess I would - I am a southern California girl by birth.

Jo and Minus2 - homegirls, I am currently typing at you from my dwelling on South Novato Blvd. The world is small and getting smaller by the moment. (I grew up in Tiburon and went to Tam High. That's back before Tiburon became an intolerant massive Yuppie enclave.)

Yay on you, Fee. 1st day back accomplished. And for today we didn't smoke. You rock.

MaddyMac - Tiburon, Sausalito, that whole area, I just loved it.  The scenery was breathtaking.   Haven't been there in a lots of years and I am sure it has changed drastically.

"Ding dong, the witch is dead.  Which old witch?  The wicked witch!  Ding dong the wicked witch is dead!"

Jaxson is GONE!  Granted, a LOT of fluid followed that drain out of my body, and she was laughing as she tried to stop it.  She finally got me to the point that I could get back to work without leaking on my clothes.

I sing on the way to work, and groan on the way home.  That's how my commmute goes.  I can't wait to see how I feel tomorrow morning, without that stupid drain.  By this point, I can tell the nagging thing isn't there, but I've hit "the wall," so I can't tell how good I'll feel.  I can't even imagine.

And guess what?  For today, I didn't smoke.  (:

So glad Jaxson is gone, what a relief for you!  Singing on the way to work, groaning on the way back, bet it is really difficult to get into the routine and energy of returning to full time work.  A friend of mine is a Fed. Ex. courier and I remember her first few weeks were exhausting.  YEAH for you, no smoking and Jaxson is gone and putting in 2 full days at work!

Fierro -  YAY!  JAXSON IS GONE!!!   Does it feel so much better??  The first day I had mine out, I could not wait to lay in my bed.  I slept in a stupid recliner for 5 weeks.  Oh!  It felt so good.  It is hard getting back to work but without your side kick it will get easier.

Karen - I have just been really busy today.  Have a major painting/redecorating project at work.  No one else knows how to do it.  We have a rather large wooden stage and I am going to paint it and "antique" it.  I have done some other things in our rec hall and my boss really loves it.

Lisamare, O2B, BarbaraA - Where are you ladies hiding???  We really miss you - please at least check in.

Judi - Did you do any research on the e-cig?

Jaxson was removed, followed by a gush of fluid.  The nurse (whom I love dearly) said, "Oh my!" and asked me to hold the gauze pressure while she got a better bandage.  I soaked through it in about 3 hours.  I have rebandaged now, though. and things seem fine.  I am SO happy to have it gone, and can NOT wait to sleep in my bed.  Today is the 6 week mark, although 6 weeks ago tonight, I was in the hospital...minus one boob and plus 2 drains.

Bad taste?  That joke was in bad taste?  Who, Me?  heh heh

I get my first TE fill Friday.  We'll see then if I need a needle aspiration of fluid buildup.  I hope not.  Come on, body.  Absorbe this stuff, OK?

Whew, I'm glad the evening is almost ending.  Had a really exhausting day.  Meetings, meetings, and meetings.  No, I didn't get a chance to speak to our Tobacco Inspectors.  Unfortunately, at work we have both an unionized and nonunionzed work environment.  I'm in the last environment.  One section of our unionized workers are on strike and the picketers are impeding our access in and out of the building.  Thus, a lot of people don't show up - work in the field or go to other locations.  I'm in the office for yet another meeting tomorrow and I will see who is in and ask my questions.  Will be an interesting find.  Fierro, hurray for you!  To the ladies who shared a neighbourhood, I'm a little jealous.  I'm up here in Ontario and not down there with you guys - feel like I'm missing my family.  Karen, the weather up here was just like your's.  Don't you just love it ... though a little cool tonight!

Fierro - Yes, 6 weeks ago today I was also in the hospital with a new boob and the nurses very worried with my hemoglobin/hemocrit levels dropping.  They are emptying my 2 drains every couple of hours - nothing but blood.  Little did I know that I would be returning to surgery the next afternoon.  I also had a gusher the day after my last drain was removed.  Last most of the next day and then stopped.  I don't think I have had any problems with fluid buildup.  Guess I will find out for sure on Monday when I got back to see my PS.

    Karen and Judi,

Yeeeeeeeeessssss!!! Today's weather was so much more comfortable than it has been although, DH had his dinner outside and I came back in because I was too cold! Guess I might be a bit tough to please....lol! Going to be great sleeping weather tonight.... Open the window a bit and cover up a bit.... 'Warm legs and a cold nose' .... Just the way I like it.... lol!

I've never had a phrase for it, so thank you for "warm legs and a cold nose."  I am SO stealing that.  I like that, during NORMAL times, you can control your thermostat by simply putting a foot out of the covers, or pulling it back in.  LOL  I love to sleep in a cold room, as long as there are warm quilts.

Seaside and JudiH, it is just beautiful sleeping weather, love the weight of the down comforter on me and my nose a little cold, we must be some kind of amphibians that enjoy a limited range of temperatures!  Everyone is doing great on just for today I will not smoke.  Seep on keeping on ladies. hugs, Karen  PS  Fierro - you must be in our class of amphibians too, just saw your post!

    Fierro,

Ohhhh I so get the 'leg out... leg in' method of temperature control but after Tamoxifen entered the picture, it's led to some 'Hot Nights' and not in a good way....lol!!

That window open and a fan going feels so nice and DH just is freezing to death.... I, however, am comfortable.... So guess who wins? My take is, if you're cold, the amount you can cover up is endless... If you're hot... you are limited as to how much you can take off!!! I am so mean and, more importantly, DH knows it and loves me anyway!

    Karen,

I think that we here in NY are used to the 4 seasons but within a rather limited temp swing....The temps we have seen this winter (and really it could be argued... what winter?) were soooooo mild... And now we are seeing really hot for this time of year... Such an unusual weather pattern!

Lol on the amphibean reference!!! Our moods do seem to fluctuate with the temps!!!

Seriously? I thought an adult binkie was an actual blankie! Silly me! I happen to have one that a friend bought for me to take to the hospital for comfort. It's a wonderful batik quilt. Its one drawback is that it isn't a cigarette. Maybe I gotta go try one of these water vapor dealies. . . (exit stage right clutching actual binkie. . .) }}}}}}}}}>>>>

MaddyMac - You could have both - a binkie and a blankie - LOL!  I am a quilter and just love working with all the batiks. There many new colors out and I can't ever decide which one I want to use since I can't have them all.

Well MaddyMac, it just dawned on me this morning while driving to work what a "binkie" is.  I haven't heard that terminology is years that it completely went out of my head.  Duh!

So SeasideMemories and Karen333, I'm loving the temperature change.  I also like a down comforter and sleep with one year round even when it 90 degrees out.  I guess it just goes with me.  I agree about the off/off with the covers and the leg in/leg out.  My dh said I'm like an acrobat - he comes to bed and then I start.  He also said that the whole temp things revolves around me and "it's all about you"!  Wait until I have to take care of him.... hmmmmm!  It all goes with the territory.

So, I asked at work about the e-cigarettes and the look I got was stunned disbelief.  I guess they thought I was going to take it up.  They said it is not a good thing to use and Health Canada has not allowed it's use in Canada.  Lots of health concerns.   Health Canada's fact sheet on it reports the e-cigarette contains nicotince, propylene glycol (a known irritant) and other chemicals in it.  So, they have not approved it's use in Canada as a smoking cessation aid.  They also reported that over a period of time, a one pack a day smoker will inhale 70,000 puffs.  I couldn't believe it when I read it.  Oh well, I enjoyed 99% of those puffs. The good ole days in the 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's.  I can see a smoker a mile away!

Judi - If you read any of the ads for the e-cig in the US, they all say they are not intended for a smoking cessation aid but to substitute for the real thing.  I have done extensive research and there are doctors who are all for the use of the e-cig. There is no evidence whatsoever tht they cause cancer and that nicotine is just as harmful as caffenne (sp?) Yes, the e-cig can have nicotine but you can also get them without.  It all comes down to, in a lot of cases, to be able to satisfy that hand to mouth thing.

Hi Jo, thanks for the info.  I've haven't done any research on this other then what Health Canada says.  Hey, if it works then why not.  Believe me, I am not a "reformed smoker".  If I hadn't quit the way I did, and knew about the e-cig, then I probably would have used it.  You know what government is like ... let's make it bad!

Hey Jo, I reread your comment.  I truly didn't know that the e-cig comes without "nicotine".  See, just proves that you shouldn't trust google.

Sorry, if I offended you.  Just telling what I was told at work.  Foot in mouth

Hi all, just for today - I did not smoke.  It was a very busy day the kind I would have used a cigarette for a relax break, today I used a saying given to me by a friend, it is a Hopi saying.  There is no word for past or future (in the Hopi language) just on becoming, staying in the now.  Then you cannot be overwhelmed.  I have paraphrased it.  It helps when many difficult things are going on to free your mind from the endless loop.

Judi - You did not offend me at all. Just sharing information and trying to be helpful - that's all. I can't speak for everyone, but I do know I learn something new everyday.  You just taught me something out Health Canada that I did not know.  Big government is always trying to run our lives. That happens alot in the US.

This is off the topic but FYI, my mom was from St John's, Newfoundland.  I tell everyone I am half a Newfie!  LOL!

Jo, thanks for the response.  I feel better.  It's hard when you are not speaking to the person individully.  Yes, we are both right about government trying to run our lives.  Imagine that they don't approve the sale of the e-cig but the sale of tobacco produvts.  Go figure.  Half a newfie, eh?  I've never been to our east coast but it is absolutely beautiful.  My brother wants to buy a house there and retire.  It's on my bucket list to visit!

Jo, so you have a little bit of Canada on your heritage line, eh.  Very quiet around here today.  It's been that kind of day here in WNY, coolish, cloudy, dreary and all day showers.  Great for naps and reading, finally finished the dinner dishes, hate facing dirty dishes in the AM.  Just for today - I did not smoke, didn't do much of anything.  Did rescue a flowering plant called"Karen's Allyisium", got it in the ground yesterday finally, it was given to me on Mother's Day.  I swear all plants, cry "don't take me", when they see me coming!!  Blossoms all gone but the greenery looks alive.  Supposed to rain off and on all weekend.  I have several good books started, may be a super quiet weekend.  DD is off all weekend for the first time in 3 weeks, been checking her leg, doesn't look like it's going to scar, I ordered the Silvertine off the internet, did a test spot on her wrist to see if she was allergic, thanks Seaside, and the jar plainly states, Not Available Without a Prescription!!  Strange

Top of the morning ladies!  The Silvertine sounds like a great product.  Must order it regardless if a prescription is required.  So, yesterday I was with my neighbours who are smokers.  We all went outside to their garage for a smoke and I didn't even have an urge for one.  In fact, it didn't even enter my mind.  Yet, when I'm alone, I think I should have one.  I don't get it.  You want one, you don't want one.  Will I ever get off of this merry-go-around!

We have severe rain in Ontario yesterday.  Our "Union Station" which is where all of our trains run in/out of flooded.  My dh was working and had to go out on a rescue.  He said the women didn't want to walk thru the water .... didn't want their shoes to get ruined.  He told them "take them off" and then they didn't want their feet wet.  As well, on the 6 p.m. news, people had taken pics of the flooded train station and photo shopped pics of alligators, sharks, the "titantic" in the pic.  We so needed te rain as it was soooooo dry, and had real bad fires in Northern Ontario.

Have a great, smoke-free day ladies!

I'm getting used to driving without a smoke, so that's a blessing.  The funny thing that I do out of habit, though, I just realized yesterday:  When leaving work, I spit out the piece of gum in my mouth, no matter how recently I popped it in my mouth (yesterday I'd had it 5 minutes, tops,) in the trash can by the door on the way out of our office.  When I did it yesterday, I wondered why, and then realized...I used to do that in anticipation of lighting a cigarette when I got in the car.  I laughed so hard at myself.  Weird little quirks like that keep popping up.

Although I drove a lot yesterday with no strong cravings, I had a horribly emotional night (rescheduled chemo now that the stupid drain is finally gone, making it VERY real again) and I wanted a smoke so bad I could taste it.  I draink three beers, really quick (2 is my limit of light beers that I will drink and still drive) so I couldn't go to the store. HA!  How jacked up is THAT?

I guess the bottom line is that I didn't smoke.  Still haven't.  Still suck in some second-hand when it's available and smells good, but haven't let a ciggy touch these lips in 2 months.  That's what I'm going to keep in my mind to fight off the emotional crap, if it comes back today.  Plan A is to not let it come back.  I think I shall find my friend and take her to lunch.  That should do the trick!

Hi ladies, just wanted to pop back and to say you must be so proud that each day goes without a smoke - you did it again.   Not sure if the cravings ever ever stop... but for me they just get less and last a shorter period of time.  Fierro I still sometimes like to suck in 2nd hand smoke... but that passes too.   And Fierro whatever works to stop you getting a smoke.  Hoping you have a better emotional day - seems there is always something to remind us of this.

We are creatures of habit eh?

Judi - was watching the news last night about the flooding at Union Station... yes much needed and hope it helps out with the raging fires in Northern ON.

Have a good day ladies whatever you are doing.
