Go for it charliegirl! I was tempted to pick up a six pack and a pack of cigs on my way into work tonight but I chose not to. I'm munching on my salad. That should keep me busy for a while. Then I guess lots of water and an occasional commit lozenge.

charliegirl, sounds like a fine plan to me, whatever keeps you going as a non-smoker works for me.

Galsal. I am here . I am doing okay i suppose . i am working a lot . I have been having a hard time not smoking patch on patch off ect . trying to catch up on bills due to surgery and down time . I have been getting weekly fills , I am done PS says now just two more fills for overfill , then I will rest a month with these rotten uncomfortable TE's .. then I will schedule my exchange surgery . I too had to be nicotine free for my BMX . I was an inredible 7 weeks nicotine free.. and 9 weeks cigarette free . i was 3 months free when financial stress came and I picked up again ... I have been beating myself up like crazy , cry a lot . I need to get strong and just do it again .. for good especially with another surgery coming up . I too had to have a breathing treatment before my BMX due to my smoking hx.
Jo I am so sorry , I will pray for you. I love ya bunches .
I miss all u girls very much .. work is just nuts some times i work days and sometimes nights .. like tonight I am working 8p to 8am .. ugh.. but the bills are starting to get paid .
I do although have an anniversary coming up , on June 28 I am 1 year sober
I need to apply those 12 steps to my smoking .. and try to say just for today I will not smoke !!

lisamarie - Stop beating yourself up would ya??? You will do this in your own time. You beat alcohol -congrats on one year of sobriety - and you will beat this. Remember we are all here for you no matter what.
0 -
lisamarie, a full year of sobriety is quite the accomplihment dear girl, not for the feint of heart, you done really, really good. No beating yourself up, you are a strong woman and when it is time you will do it, just keep on keeping on, each cigarette you don't smoke is a triumph. And despite the duress of the job, you are hanging on and paying the bills. lisamarie - you are to be congratulated dear girl, no more tears. hugs, Karen

Good morning ladies. I have been up for an hour and a half and I haven't smoked!! YAY!!
0 -
Hurray charliegirl!!!
You've taken what I think is maybe one of the biggest steps in quitting... Getting started!!! Stay busy today... Clean... Walk... Drink LOTS of fluids (in addition to the wine) because it helps to flush out the nicotine....Eat lots of small meals/snacks to keep uour blood sugar levels stable. It takes some time for our bodies to relearn how to do that without nicotine to trigger release of stored sugar... Plus I'm hungry feels a lot like, I want to smoke. Rest when you can... In fact evenings were the last smokes that I ditched when cutting back and were the hardest part of the day for me when quitting. Many a night I just turned in early... Can't smoke if I'm sleeping....
Most importantly post when/if you need to!!!
You CAN do this!!!0 -
Thanx Sea!! I now haven't smoked for 10 hrs!!! (since going to bed last night) WOO-HOO!!!0
-
That's the hardest step and you've done it!!! My house was so clean those first few weeks, you literally saw it gleam, never before and never since. But it kept me busy, and when I took a break I drank loads of water and practiced deep breathing, the kind where you put your hand on your tummy and breathe deeply enough to make your hand move. Keep on going, charlie girl, post frequently so we can support you. Karen

I found a cool app for my phone...cessation nation. I go to it often...it tracks your progress and tracks your health benefits. Example...it's been 13 hrs. since my last cig, and 18% of nicotene has been removed from my body!
0 -
I'm glad you like the app, and you've actually cleared more nicotine out of your system than 18%. The half-life of nicotine is 2 to 4 hours--which means 50% of the nicotine is gone in 2 to 4 hours. then half of that amount is gone in another 2 to 4 hours (for a total of 75% in 4 to 8 hours), and so on. Which is why it only takes 3 to 5 days to clear all the nicotine out of your body.
Nicotine leaves the body very quickly--which is why most smokers smoke a pack a day--which is close to 1 an hour--it keeps the amount of nicotine in your body fairly consistent. Think about how long after you put a cigarette out that you start physically craving another one--this is just one of the reason why nicotine is so addictive--quick absorbtion and quick elimination. Have a joy-filled day.

Keep it up charliegirl! I'm going to make a committment to stay smoke-free today. Care to join me?

Charliegirl!! You go, girl!!
These first few hours/days are the hardest but, amazingly quickly the hours become days, then weeks, months and years.... And it all starts with the step you took today!!
Cheering you on!!!0 -
Yay dunesleeper for choosing to remain smoke-free!!! You are doing reall well!!
Ladies,
I had intended to respond to a post of VJ's back a ways... I think rephrasing our motto of 'Just for today I will not smoke' (where the brain sometimes skips the 'not') into 'Just for today I will stay smoke-free' or something along those lines might be a good idea... Kind of puts a more positive spin on it while keeping the same meaning.... What do you all think?0 -
I've hit the 20 hr. mark!! lol Almost one day down...I am psyched! It wasn't that bad either. It wasn't great, but not terrible. I'll take it!!

lisamarie...embrace your accomplishments! when you are entirely ready to do so, you will quit smoking. come here often and visit, you belong whether smoking or not. IMHO, all that is needed is the intention to quit to be here!
0 -
Galsal. wonderfully put!! lisamarie, you do belong with us as long as the intention to quit is present. charliegirl, one day down, you did great, first day is tough!!

Hello all, still smoke free, and it is FINALLY starting to be a little easier. Every day I get a little more confident. I am still using Tootsie Roll Pops to help me through tough times. I feel like if I can do this, than anyone can, but the time HAS to be right. I had people telling me that same thing for years but it wasn't until I was ready that I have had any success at all. I am anxious to hear from some of you who used Chantix, I cut back to only one a day, but I am curious to know what if anything changes when you stop taking it completely.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and terrific week. We are all in this together. We are all survivors. We are all here for each other.. I am so glad to have found this group!

Charliegirl,
So glad day 1 is behind you and also a significant part of day 2!!!!!!!! You are rockin' it!!! Keep on doing what you're doing because it's working!!!
Congrats to you too, dunesleeper!!!! I agree... If you and charliegirl (and everyone else just starting out) stick together, there's nothing you can't do!!! Ooooooooo, I like that last part of your post.... One day Longer, One day Stronger!!!! I think we may just have to add that to our motto!!! Love it!!!
Judi,
I was wondering where you've been.... I don't add anyone to the list without their permission so didn't want to add you until I heard from you! Will gladly go back and edit the list to include you!!! Just give me a day or so because I keep the file on my old and very slow laptop!!
Enjoy your visit with your Sis.....
Hope you all are enjoying the weekend so far.... It's high school graduation weekend here so lots of parties and ceremonies to attend so I'll be i and out.... Weather here is just gorgeous... Not too hot and low humidity!! Just the way I like it......0 -
Maddy,
Thinking of you and hoping that all went well with your surgery yesterday and that you are recovering comfortably.....
Sending a very gentle hug your way!0 -
Babs,
Glad to hear you are still going strong and that things are getting easier!!!
I know way back when I first quit everyone told me that it would get easier... I thought they were a big old bunch of liars and it actually made me want to just about smack their lips off but, lo and behold it turns out they were right!!! I'm not sure the urge ever goes away 100% but, you find that most days you just don't think about it and on the rare occasion that you do, it's more a fleeting thought rather than a real urge...
i think Galsal used Chantix so hopefully she will be along to answer your question on that....
Hi Fierro and Karen!!!!!0 -
Hi all, special hug to Maddy recovering from surgery, everyone else is doing beautifully, from almost 2 days and onto months and years. So nice to see women teaming up to make the journey easier. I like that new slogan, "one day longer, one day stronger", it fits so well with stay strong, and just for today, I will not smoke, and the new positive affirmation of that slogan, this old brain can't remember it. Help me on that. There are so many of us now and that is a very good thing, we have women using all different nicotine aids so that they may campare notes and any potention newbies can see what a selection there is, and how they work. It is finally just warm enough in my neck of the woods and windows are open, it smells just delicious. Did walk by a smoker in the drugstore and wow the smell was so stale and I thought that used to be me! Babs - when Seaside said that to me, I thought it never will get easier and she is just a different ex-smoker. She was right on count #1, it does get easier and I was right on count #2, she is a very special non-smoker to keep track of all of us. Hugs to all, out and about Jo? Karen

Karen, I have been out and about and trying to stay busy. After my annual pap last week I was told I had to have another hysteroscopy/D&C - had one last year. This is all thanks to our friend Tamoxifen. Scheduled for Friday. Just when I thought I was at the end of all the appts. Was hoping to be appt free until my revision in Aug. More so now than in the past, I am having to rely on my adult binkie. With this recent turn of events, I was so devastated I really wanted a smoke. In fact, when I got home from the gyn I sat, smoked one cig and had a good cry. Now I am all better. Still not looking forward to it but better able to deal with it.

Dear Jo, I am so sorry you have to go through this again, cancer is just a damn disease, just when you think you are standing on your own 2 feet, it comes and sweeps your feet out from under you!! Prayers and hugs winging there way to you from N.Y. By Wed. I should have the path report on the lesion the gyn. removed last Friday, he had to send it to Rochester because our hospital doesn't have the sophisticated labs needed. He assures me it was benign and that I am 100% all right but I want to see it in print. I will pray that Friday comes quickly for you and it is just a routine D&C, I'll tell you those AI's really do a number on us with all it's delightful SE's. Don't even worry about the slip, it probably didn't taste good at all, and a good cry is so relieving too. Love to you, Karen
