Babs:  I used Chantix.  Quit smoking in the house first.  A week later I quit smoking in my car.   A week after that I started Chantix - smoking on the front porch only.  I only used the first prescription.  I kept on taking it at the lower dose & didn't ramp it way up.  It was just enough to keep me sane.  Everytime I wanted to smoke I went for a walk.  It seems like I wore out a pair of sneakers before I lost the desire, but it really wasn't even a month for the worst to pass.  I kept walking for 3 years - all the way up to my breast cancer diagnosis.  Then I became a slug - but I didn't start smoking again.

My 5 year anniversary is almost here 7/11/07.  I never believed it would happen.

Jo:  hope your weekend isn't too stressful.  You're in our thoughts.

Seaside:  I second the thanks for the care & concern you provide to this thread.

I really like "one day longer, one day stronger".

And how about "smoke free, you & me"  (adapted from Marlo Thomas & Friends). This thread gives amazing support.  Good wishes to all just starting the journey, or re-starting the journey, or on the way.

Karen,  I am not able to take the AIs so it is Tamoxifen that is giving me fits.  I told me DH that a pill that is supposed to keep me alive at one end is trying to kill me at the other end. Guess my uterus just loves estrogen - sheesh!!

Rather than reposting the Roll Call, I edited the existing one on Page 266 to add JudiH and charliegirl's quit date.... Looking at the list and in keeping with the graduation theme for this time of year.... The Quit Smoking 'Class of 2012' is by far the largest we have had since I have been here!!!! Keep up the good work, ladies!!!!

    MinusTwo and Karen,

Thanks for the kudos but I think it is everyone of us here that deserves them!! None of us knows which of our posts may strike a cord with someone or form a connection with someone where no one else's post has... We each have something to bring to the table here in a truly supportive 'no judgements' manner and, in my mind, that's what makes this thread so unique and special!!!

OK.... Loving the 'Smoke Free, You & Me, too!!!!!

One day Longer, One day Stonger... Just for today... Smoke free, you and me!

    (((((Jo)))))))

Sometimes we hit the point where we feel like 'ENOUGH, already!' and often times a good cry is exactly what we need to re-group and move forward.... So sorry that you are having to go through this again....

Please know we'll all be thinking of you on Friday......

ONE DAY LONGER, ONE DAY STRONGER!!! That saying actually started here in WI, during our recent election, but it really means so much more here. If it motivates anyone, I'm happy!!

Going on 48 hrs. and tho not exactly easy....it hasn't been that hard. I guess I'm motivated and this site has been a prime motivator!! Thank you everyone who has been here to encourage, and keep on keeping on, to everyone going through the same battle!

I did use Chantix.  Twice have quit smoking with it.  Took it for several months this last time and did ramp up.  Ramped it down for a few days and quit taking it about two months ago.  I'm still not smoking although now and then as a crutch I do use a nicotine-free e-cigarette.  My only real side effect of the Chantix was dreams every single night - not nightmares.

    Have a Fantastic Monday everyone.

Thinking about BarbaraA & Galsal in the Tampa, FL area.  They are getting pounded by the leading edge of the tropical storm.  Hope both of you are safe.

To the new nonsmokers - way to go!  We all know you can do it - it all a mindset!  Cher56, don't worry about the smoking .... I've just responded to your post on the Canadian thread.  Get well my friend and hope the results are all clear!

Jo, what storm are we talking about!  I've been entertaining my sister and her granddaughter and they tuckered me out.  Haven't watched the news!

JudiH, i think Jo is referring to tropical storm Debbie, which is just kind of sitting off the coast of Florida, going from Tampa all the way to the panhandle of Florida and then Mississippi I believe dumping tons of rain and huge wind gusts.   May be upgraded to hurricane level as it moves west along the Gulf coast.  Barbara A. And Galsal you know are in the Tampa area.  Another day not smoking, sounds like you are too tuckered out to develop any cravings

Judi - Karen is right - I was talking about Tropical Storm Debby.  Florida has already gotten a foot of rain with another foot predicted.  The storm is sitting in the gulf and not moving right now.  It may be a couple more days before it does move.  Sending up prayers for everyone who is in the path of the storm.

Cher, good luck. Let us know what you find out.

Charliegirl, thanks for the encourgement. It does help to know someone else is fighting this fight with me. Life is going to be so much better without nicotine cravings. We will be so much more relaxed. We'll save money, and we'll save our lives. We will heal better and feel better. We won't be stinky. (I do hate the smell of a smoker. It about knocks me over.) Let's rock this quit!

    Hello,

My fiancee is a dipper and has recently started her first round of chemo. She was warned of the interaction and thus far has been able to put down the nicotine a week before treatments. I on the other hand am a life long smoker and 7 months ago put them down for life. I was told by a friend he hadn't had a smoke in over a year thanks to an E-cig. I tried the cheap ones at 7-11 and it was horrible! So I researched on line and started using an ego-c. Yes I still opt for the nicotine, however I don't stink like an ashtray, I'm no longer killing the woman I love with my second hand smoke; and it now costs around $15.00 a month!!!! No matter where you live dfwvapors.com will ship to you and always stand behind they're products!!! When I add those perks together with amazingly young stamina(No longer feeling like I'm going to die after sex!) I WILL NEVER SMOKE AGAIN!!! I plan to reduce the nicotine in a week or two and shake the nicotine as well.

We have a friend who just had part of her lung and a whole breast removed, started to use a E-cig and now smokes like a freight train instead. She says that "I'd rather live one year happy(Smoking) the 10 years unhappily?!? Am I the only one confused by this way of thinking???

Good luck to anyone trying to quit...it can be done,

      Steve

steever, I quit with an e cig also, starting with nictine and weaning off to none as you have done, what a wonderful gift to give your fiance!!  This is a great support group if you need support during your cutting back period, you do sound like you have massive determination to make this work.  It will stand you in good motivation as you go through your quitting.  Thank you for sharing your story with us.  Feel free to read and post as you need to.  Karen

charliegirl, rockin the quit, I love that and 5 days, you girl are dancing up a storm.  I found a quote on another thread that I think applies to all of us: you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and twice as beautiful as you'd ever imagine.  Keep on rockin it!!!  Karen

Thanx Karen! I got that quote from Dunesleeper, who's rockin the quit with me!!

I love motivational quotes, I always have, even before this horrible sickness got me. Now I love them even more.

And I too have an e-cig, one without nicotene. I just use mine to fight that urge to have something in my hand...like when I'm driving, and to beat those cravings that I have at those trigger moments...after I eat, on the phone. It's really helped me a lot!!

Hi Stever, love your post.  I too agree that whatever helps you quit, then use it.  I also heard someone else say that they would "rather die of cancer" then quit smoking.  I couldn't believe it when I heard that.  However, I'm not going to go that round with any individual, as we all have different opinions and I certainly don't know what any individual is going through.  I know my brother couldn't give them up, and after his treatment was not effective, he thought "why the h@$$ not!  So, all we can do is offer that person support and love!

Charliegirl, you are well on your way!  Keep rockin!
