Karen - Sooooo glad they seem to have identified the infection. You were right to go to Rochester. Isn't is wonderful not dealing with pulling along your IV pole to some hiding place in the garage to find a place to smoke? Please keep us updated. We're rooting for an early recovery.

MinusTwo, I confess I found such a hiding spot in the parking garage of the hospital my father was at. 45 year old woman hiding from security for the almighty nic fit!

My daughter gave me a card of an aging Santa Clause on a large pink bicycle that says " aging ain't for sissies". Going home today yeah, Hooray, Karen

Karen: So sorry! I haven't checked in for a while. I didn't know you'd had problems. I don't know if you remember or not, but I was in the hospital for a week with infection, home a few days, then back in hospital for a week. That was in Oct. 2010. I think I had an infected TE, but they never could decide what was giving me fever, etc. With some heavy duty antibiotics, it finally cleared up. It was NO fun. I hate you had to go through the same thing. The bright side is, you are home now in time for the start of football season!! I was in the hospital in Oct. and was sooooo pissed that I missed a couple of games, ha!

Oh Bama, I just now saw it - I'm so inept but funny on a laptop not my own, Yes I am Home today, absolutely pooped, will write more tomorrow. Bills are in training camp, it's almost time!!!! Karen

How is every one? Saturday I went to a BCO gathering of ladies in Fla that was held here in Tampa. We had a grand time. Every day I get a bit better.

Dear Galsal, I came home late Friday afternoon, on all sorts of antibiotics but I am HOME. I do have to wear O2 when I sleep as they discovered my saturation rate drops to 74 at times, I was so afraid it was emphysema and I had done this to myself, but it is not, so everyone struggling day to day to stay smoke free, remember there are dire consequences to smoking. Just for today I will not smoke with you along beside me. Karen

I have 7 weeks Karen. I do NOT want to go back. Do you just wear O2 at night to sleep? It's better. 74 is way too low. It makes your heart work so much harder. You don't want stroke or heart attack. I am so glad it's not emphysema. Maybe sleep on a wedge so you are not flat. Glad you are home. I'm on the countdown to surgery ... 10 days. You gotta get better! :-)

Dear Beckers, visiting nurse just left and said my PCP may allow me to go without O2 when I am reading or watching T.V. since today at rest, I was fine - in the 90's, but after activity, I dropped to 89. I do wear it to sleep, they did a blood saturation night time study and I drop right down, my father was a great snorer, who would stop occasionally mid snore and you would wait till he started breathing again. Like father, like daughter apparently!! What day is your surgery, I have lost track of so many things, I will be there in your pocket, then your blue bonnet. Karen

Thank you Judi. I can't believe it. I always told people, "If I ever quit smoking, you'll know there is a God because I can't do it." I honestly thought cigarettes would be the death of me. That's sad. But....I did it and I'm so glad I did.

Karen, so glad you are ho(e)me and returning to health.
I started chemo last week and it's like a punch in the gut. I fell off the wagon. Right now Im allowing myself to finish this pack and then back on the wagon. I had 2 months, too! Dumble grumbles.

No worries. I am all about whining right now!!!! It is hard to go through the tough stuff and not smoke. They told me at pre op that there was a small spot on one of my chest x rays so now I have to have CT mon. Then DH being a jerk...after that news? I don't think so!!! Oh Lord did I have to fight not smoking!!! So....moral of the story....this is a safe place to vent as far as I am concerned. Glad you are feeling better Maddy. Sending you hugs and chocolate raisins.

Beckers, so glad you resisted, I had a moment in the car going to be admitted to the hospital and boy was that craving strong, cigarette was right there. But then I thought stay strong and would you want to tell the women on the thread, and the answer was no way, Just for today, I will not smoke. Karen

Beckers, I am slowly getting better, The infection was so severe that I am weak as a kitten, went to the Dr. yesterday, my first outing and came home and took a nap. But each day I improve, another one day at a time. Thanks for asking. Karen

Hi ladies, I just can't seem to find the time lately to keep up with the posts on here, but welcome to the newcomers. Karen, hang in there girl, you will get stronger, it just takes time. I was on home IV antibiotics for about a week after I came home from the hospital, then it took another week or so to feel better.
I got a good report Tuesday. I had CT scans last week, and they were all clear and my blood work was "perfect" according to the doctor. Woo hoo! God is good!
My new avatar is me with hair for the first time in 2 years!
