Deborah + anyone else reading FYI -

Thanks for dealing with my "paranoia." I checked on the small weird spot on my breast that felt a little thin and when pushed in felt bubble-like and gives, ....The PS claims that it is a spot where there is less fat + flesh. To look at the breast, it is not noticable, but to feel it, it's odd. Anyways, I've had my implants are not quite 3 weeks; so things will continue to change, ... so nothing to fret about.

I hope everyone else is having a great day. It is a nearly perfect summer PA day. HUG. Georganne

Sue, Dani, Geena - I'm thinking about you. Hope you'll rest and heal quickly.

Thanks ladies for sharing nausea prevention. I had a lot of problems with this when I had my oophorectomy in 2007 + my MX in March 2009.  For my recent exchange surgery, I had a patch put behind my ear ( the anethesiologist said like people wear when going on a cruise ship)  and also IV zofran while I had my exchange. It worked well.

    Have a great evening. Georganne

Hi all, Saw the MD today and he tried to explain the Cat Scan and xray. I guess I may have some paralysis of the left hemidiaphram in the lower part of my lung. Basicically the nerve that tells the diaphragm what to do may be damaged. I asked if this could be caused by the TE's and he said he didn't know how because this nerve is in the chest cavity and what they did was out side the chest cavity. I guess the diaphragm in the left hemidiaphrage is elevated. I had a chest xray in Feb 09 before my surgery and this was not on on the xray. This is a real bummer. One radiologist said the possibbitly of infiltrate cannot be entirely excluded. He said further evaluattion with fluoroscopy should be done. I have read some stuff about chest wall compression reported in the use of the TE's. I go to see the PS tomorrow. I'm so afraid he won't want to do the exchange. I can't live with these TE's forever. The earliest I could get in to see the Pummanary Doc is in two weeks. This will be a long two weeks. Di

Dani- I will PM you about your daughter so that I don't ramble as well!! I understand what you mean about being excited. I think I am so nervous about the results, that I am forgetting how excited I should be to get rid of these awful expanders.I'm glad that your results seem to be what you wanted. Fingers are crossed that they stay that way.

Georganne- I had that seasick patch behind my ear as well when I had my BM. I still needed something for nausea afterwards, but it could have been worse. When I had my lumpectomy I had something called twilight anesthesia and I had no nausea at all. I don't know what that was, but it was great!!

Di- I hope that this turns out to be something that will resolve on it's own and not effect your exchange date. That would be a bummer. I really hope that it has nothing at all to do with the expanders although nothing would surprise me. Continued prayers are being sent your way.

Laura- You're one of the funniest ramblers out there. Keep it coming!!

Di, so sorry for all that you are having to go through, and you too Geena. I can't even begin to imagine the frustration you must have.  I know it is of little consolation, but I am keeping you in good thoughts.  Keep posting so I know when I can give a Woo Hoo!

Dani and Sue, I bet you are glad that it is over.  BTW Dani, what big City is SUNY Courtland near?  My SIL got his Masters from SUNY Buffalo and my daughter has taught a couple of classes at SUNY Fredonia.  I live in CA, so only know the area around my daughters house!  I get to go back in October to see the grandsons.

Laura, I am keeping you in great thoughts, can't wait to hear your story.

Sue and Dani, I am praying for you. To SarahJane, Estepp and pmelon, good luck on your upcoming surgery. I am praying for your quick recovery.

I like to say thank you to Deborah and Julie for helping me out what to ask my PS and what I want to have in terms of breast size.

I saw my PS today. I gave him my wish list. I actually was complemented that I gave him something for him to think about. Here's what I gave him.

    7/15/09

    Celine's Wish List:

    • 1. I like to have a nice cleavage with good projection. PS said probably will not have much more cleavage than pre-op.
    • 2. I want a perky breast. PS said "noted".
    • 3. I want it fuller and bigger than I used to be. He said OK.
    • 4. I would like my breast to balance with the rest of my body.He said OK.
    • 5. I want to go for a 500 cc Mentor High Profile Smooth Silicone Implants to be happy. He said size depends on skin and impossible to fully predict pre-op.
    • 6. I do not want to use a Mentor Moderate Plus Profile in the 400's range because I might not be happy with the projection results. He say that I probably ending to use a Mentor Moderate Plus profile but will be around 500's range.
    • 7. I think personally, 550's would look better on me.
    • 8. I do not want droopy breasts at all. He said OK.
    • 9. I do not want to wake-up smaller than my expanders. He said I will. On my next visit I will have to tell him to fill me-up as much as he needs to.

    Questions:

    • 1. Do you use a sizer to determine which one would look best on me?

He said yes. He will try different sizes to see what's best for me.

    • 2.Can I get a card of my TE device? No answer.

    3. Can I see my picture before my surgery 4/30/09? Yes,

4.Can I get a copy of my doctor's report? Yes, I will get a copy of my records.

5.Do I need a fat graft to make my breast fuller? He said no. not yet approved technology.

6.Are my implants going to be smaller than my expander? Yes.

    • 7.What is my rib cage measurement? Forgot to answer.
    • 8. What I have under my armpits are annoying. Will the pocket be revised at the time of the exchange? No answer.

My PS was glad that I have this list and he put it in my file. I am at 410 cc currently. I will have at least 3 more fills. I want him to fill me at 60 cc instead of 100 cc so that pectorial muscle will have a change to expand.

Without this group and the special people on this forum, I could not have been well informed and probably would just go with the flow what my PS would do.

    Thank you again. Celine

Whippetmom - I'm a greyhound mom, so we're kind of related right?  that's where my email address came from!  I am 5' 10" and with chemo weight 165 but am normally 155-160.  I'm a size 8/10 on the bottom and a 14 on top right now.  Hopefully better matched post surgery :-)

Ladies - Well I am off to see my PS for my "long delayed" post-op visit after my second revision (The PS had a family emergency).  I am really anxious, as I have to tell him all the things I am still unhappy with and depending on what he says, I may decide to start the process all over again with a new PS.  Deborah and Sandy have given great advice (thanks so much!), and recommend a new PS and implant exchange; but, I am so torn between having more surgery or saying "enough is enough".   I am so anxoius before this visit, I am shaking like a leaf. I need to go take an Ativan.   Give me strength!

Welcome Greytmom_17!  Do you have a full size greyhound or an italian greyhound?  I have an italian greyhound (Bella).  She has been my strength through this process.

    firstmate,

I cried all the way to my ps appointment last week, the last one before my exchange surgery.  I should have taken something for anxiety because I cried while in his office too!  My husband looked at me like I was nuts, and I probably was.  I totally get the emotions that you are feeling now.  I hope everything goes well for you!

Celine- I was so impressed with your list. Thank you for sharing it with us. I see my PS on Monday for my preop visit. I am going to prepare a list as well. Hopefully, my PS will be as receptive towards my list as yours was. I think during my expansion process I was just so focused on getting it done. That was all I care about. Now that 8 weeks have passed, I can think rationally and I know that there are things I definately want out of this experience. Good luck with the rest of your fills.

greytmom:  Yes, I KNEW you were a greyhound mom - I forgot to mention it to you.  I know the sighthound breed so well....I know Jean Dodds - [vaccine protocols and thyroid guru] who has Hemopet and has retired racers.  We had Italian Greyhounds before we got our whippet.  Okay, so re: the boobies:  With your height you can definitely carry off a high profile implant...and you probably do not need the width as much as you need the height an HP can give.  There is the Mentor HP and Allergan Style 20, and you might also be a candidate for the Style 45 which is an extra full projection implant.  However, it is narrower and taller than the HP and so you have to have a sufficient torso to handle  -  not for short-waisted women.  I think if you could get 700 cc's you would be happier though so push for this.

    Ladies,

Has anyone discussed how the nips procedure is done with your PS?  Mine says that he cuts a little flesh on your breast to make like a person's head and 2 arms coming out to each side, then the arms fold in around the head ... (He drew a picture). He said that he has to make them twice as big at first because they shrink to half the size.  For those with nips, this sound like your procedure?  My cousin in Texas had a lat flap procedure and just got her nips done 2 weeks ago. She claims that if I go to google Earth, I could see them - LOL. (All giggles aside, are fips HUGE; do they show through clothes; are there any specific concealing bras to recommend? ) I honestly think if I were not married, I may not get them because I dread huge ones and them showing through clothes.  I'd love to hear what you sisters with nips think.  Thanks. ((Dani)) it is a small world.  My daughter is a stay at home Mommy now, but still writes reports for the bio-tech company that she worked for and her husband is a Manager for.  I can't wait to see them.  The other grandparents are back there this week, they live around the corner from us in CA.  At least the kids don't live in Ireland anymore, NY is a lot closer!

BTW,to ((Dani and Robin))I was very emotional before the exchange, very anxious, teary and those closest to me just kept saying "you should be happy"  I wasn't unhappy, it was just another change for my body and I was unsure about the whole process and how I would look afterwards.  I go see the PS tomorrow for the 1 month check up.

((Georgeanne))  I will be doing fipples in the fall, are they really that big?  The procedure you described sounds like what the PS told me he was going to do.  I do not want a WALNUT hanging off of my foob.  I think I will be discussing this with him tomorrow.  Thanks for the timely food for thought, I will let you know what he says. Second that motion to Sarajane and rascalgal by Laura,  good thoughts are sent your way tomorrow.  Check in when you can to let everyone know that you are well.

I can hardly wait for next week for Laura and Pmellon.   I am so afraid for Laura's PS (God forbid) that he puts implants any smaller than what he is supposed to.  For his own safety he better wear a cup into surgery! Yell Go Laura! and remember, well behaved women rarely make history!

    *Deep Deep Breath*

Okay Ladies... it's my turn!  I wish I was better at keeping up with posting and engaging here... but what can I say?  I just posted photos starting with 'natural breasts' and going up to tonight on timtam's board (Fumi... thank you so much for giving us the platform to do this on!!)

So I'm positive but slightly apprehensive... the TE's are far from pleasant... but at least look somewhat like breasts... and are only moderatly uncomfortable.   I'm trying not to hope for too much.... I'm not a religious woman but certainly thank the forces that be in this universe that for whatever reason deemed me to be fortunate enough to only have brushed with Breast Cancer (DCIS/ALH) as close as I have.  It's been a roller coaster of a year... but I'm honestly thankful to have only gone as deep as I have (BiLatMx/no chemo/no rads)... I have been a broad spectrum of emotions since last sept... but hopefully will exit this chapter of my life with my sunshiny disposition in tact.

It's like wearing the most obsurd bride's maid dress imaginable...  Stand tall and walk like you mean it... it all sucks but hopefully... it will be over sooner or later... and you'll be able to shed the shitty pink dress... and move on ...

For those facing their upcoming surgery, here is some good news.  My exchange was Tuesday and I do not need any pain meds today, not even Ibuprophen!  I went with my husband to JC Penneys last night.  I had slept almost all day and felt like I should get out a bit.  My legs were a bit weak but I did fine.  Today, I feel back to normal.  Got up early, made my own breakfast, and started a load of laundry (didn't carry a laundry basket).  I never really had much pain in the surgery site area at all.  The rest of my body felt like someone beat the hell out of me though!  My hips, legs and arms hurt so it may have been how they handled me in the operating room.  You will do fine!

Deborah - i have retired racer who is 13 1/2.  I've had her 10 1/2 years.  And thanks for the info.  I told my PS I was ready to stop but they'll keep going if I want.  The good news is I'm starting to feel the search for the port plus the needle, so we think I'm getting some feeling back!  Could have waited 3 weeks though :-)
