    Val,

I hope not, I will topple over!  LOL  I actually wore a bra similar to the one you had on in your photos!  She (female PS!) Put in the sizers and filled them until the bra, oops- forgot to mention the size-was a 32 D, was full.  Anything over the 475 cc's would make me fit into a larger bra size, which I didn't want.  Then again, it can be different with the actual implants.

Annie1962, I want to add to what the others are saying about size.  I was very excited when my "former" ps FINALLY agreed to put in implants with more cc's then my tissue expanders.  Well, was I surprised after the exchange when the implants, even though they had more cc's then the expanders, were SMALLER than the expanders.  Without a padded bra, I still look like an A cup. They have dramatically less projection which made a huge difference.

    Judy,

Could you recommend anyone in Oregon that does permanent makeup?  My eyebrows are a disaster complete since they've grown back.  The sparce eyebrows and my too small and too high foob with CC are driving me crazy.  Thanks!

Thanks for adding me to the list! I can't believe this is finally happening.

Funny coincidence: My PS just moved to new offices. She sent me an e-vite to her wine and cheese open house. Unfortunately the party is the afternoon of my surgery! Wouldn't she be shocked if I showed up?? LOL

Whippetmom--- Thanks so much for your advice.  I do want to add that when I was expanded to 500cc I was in a lot of discomfort (a lot of pressure on my chest, pain radiating to my back).  Once she removed 50cc's of it, I felt wonderful.  It has been 3 weeks now and I am feeling really good.  As much as I want to go bigger, a part of me is afraid of another expansion because it hurt so bad last time.  I have to admit I was having these expansions weekly.  It seems the skin has adjusted to conform to the TE.  I am assuming that the cup size varies with everyone because it sounds like that someone with a <400cc can have a C cup & some need to go higher to achieve the same???  Is that true?  Guess it's body proportions?

Kew--- I hope something can be done to relieve your pain!  Have you tried accupuncture?  I have the tendency to have shoulder discomfort especially after a long day (dental hygienist).  At my worst I had accupuncture & it really helped.  It takes several treatments though to have results.  My co-worker hygienist, also had breast cancer, came down with a frozen shoulder & she tried it as well.   BUT...check with your doctors of course.

Take care you all!  Thoughts & prayers!

Hi TaTas,  I've had so many of you wonderfula ladies checking in on me, I just had to come & check in with all of you today following my consult for a second opinion on my lack of symmetry.

The second ps was very thorough and definitely understood why I wasn't happy with my outcome.  He suggested a Ryan procedure, where he would stitch the good breast back up.  He also suggested a high profile, slightly larger, silicone implant for the cancer side and he could use the Ryan technique on that side too thereby making me more of an IMF.  (This is exactly what Whippetmom suggested!  She is so good ladies!)   :)

The problem is my insurance won't cover it since it is considered an acceptable outcome.  He gave it a grade of a solid B and says you need to weigh the risk of another surgery (I have problems with anesthesia and seromas.) with what can be achieved through the surgery.  He suggested I talk to my ps again and be more adament, requesting the Ryan procedure by name.  He thinks my current ps did a good job and will want the opportunity to make me happy.

    Take care everyone!

I have several pages of posts to catch up on!

KEW,  I sent you a private message,  BTW,  do you know that you don't get frequent flier miles for multiple medical appointments?  Really, you have had an incredible year,  just know that you are thought of a lot.  Get well Sister.

Great advice from Judy, Deborah and others.  I guess Deborah is feeling well enought to type.  God bless her, even her own surgery doesn't keep her down.  Jan

Alicia, I see you popped in to say Hi.  I try to keep up here but it is so busy that it is hard to do.  I hope things are going well for you?

Kew, I hope they can give you some relief for your pain.

Candi, my heart goes out to you.

Hood, did your doctor send photos to the insurance company?    You can write a letter to appeal the decision and ask your ps to do the same.  It is medically necessary for psychological reasons, you have physical discomfort and it is negatively effecting your intimate relationship...

I found this information: Coverage must be available for reconstruction of the breast on which the mastectomy was performed as well as the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance.  Here is the link:http://www.healthcarechoices.org/newslet/news199brreconst.htm

    Good luck!

Firni - I notice that you posted that you switched from textured to smooth implants.  May I ask why?  I was told by my PS that she uses textured (though I imagine I can discuss that with her)... and attended as well a seminar on breast reconstruction at my hospital where they said that textured does better with scarring and helps minimize capsular contraction.

For anyone else: what are people's reasons to choose round over teardrop shaped implants?  Gummies (which seem firmer) vs regular silicone (which seems squishier to me)?

    Thanks,

    Lilah

CANDI: I am so sorry for what you are going through. I had bi-lat in August of 2008 and was not able to have any reconstruction at that time. I had my bi-lat lat dorsi flap w/TE on 7/10 and I am THRILLED with the way it went. Okay, not a walk in the park but I have recovered well. Back to pilates, aerobics and light weight lifting (6 lbs). Today is my exchange surgery. I wish you the best of luck. I'm not usually as helpful as all these other wonderful ladies but if you have any questions, I might be able to help.

KAREN: How horrible. I understand the rotator cuff takes a long time to heal. You will have to really baby it.

ALL: Thanks for your support. I will try to post when I get home today with my new girls.

FELLOW MICHIGANIANS: I'm in the metropolitan Detroit area (downriver-Allen Park) and treat at University of Michigan. I love all my U of M docs.

Deb, Thanks for your advise.  I already know I'm not going back to the pepperoni guy.  He did a great job with the revision, but I gues it's time to move on....again.  What are you're thoughts on going back to the original guy??

Lilah, I switched from textured to smooth implants because the textured implants are very firm and they ripple quite a bit.  There are no conclusive studies to show that the textured implants reduce the incidence of CC.  That is why they were developed, but it is unclear if they really do.  Also with the textured,  your skin tissue will adhere to the surface of the implant.  That's what causese the ripples.  Eventually, your tissue will grow into the implant.  The textured implants are designed to not move in the pocket at all.  Having had both,  I really like the smooth better.  I have to massage now where with the textured I didn't but it's a small price to pay for a much more natural feeling implant

    Hi ladies,

Don23, hope you are feeling better today and are loving the results!

Alicia, I'm hoping your chemo is going as smoothly as possible.

Candi, I'm sorry you're having to go through this again, I'm glad they caught it early.

Teresa, mine are hanging so low, I've never been happy about that, even after the lift.  My PS says it looks natural, but for me it's not unless I'm 80.  They're so low it's uncomfortable and very weighty.  Have you posted on the pic forum lately?  I'm on there, too.  Hope your PS listens to you better.

Deborah, hope you are feeling better!

KEW, I hope they can fix you up so you'll be out of pain soon.  I was dx'd with brucitis(sp?) in my hip before C, and my Dr. said I was making it worse with kickboxing, so I started to add some Pilates to my weekly routine, and it did get better.  Please take it easy, you have so much going on in your life at once.

janloy and Athena, good luck on your exchanges today!

    Hugs to everyone,

    Deen

Just took my bandages off - I thought I was going to be huge with 650cc but am a little disappointed. They really don't look that big. When they "drop and fluff" do they change in size?

Athena: You didn't beat me. I was up getting the house ready and paying bills before I left for the hospital.

I'm home now. I feel great. I have those cards too. When hubby gets home, I will check them out and post again but probably not until tomorrow.

I define mine as "small but perky". Sooooooooooo glad to get rid of the TX.

Thanks so much for all your prayers and support. I definately felt the power of prayer.

    Love,

Janloy and Athena, glad to hear things went well. Athena, so sorry about the drains but they will be out before you know it.  Don't over do it ladies, even if you feel fine.

Deen, glad to see you are posting.  How are you?

Lilah, Like Firni, I will be having my textured implants removed in December.  I can't compare them to the smooth yet but I did have a problem with the implant adhering to the scar tissue on the implant when it healed.  My new ps explained that the muscle could have healed the way it did because the textured is designed not to move so once it attached to the scar tissue, it stayed there.  Also, they aren't as easy to move in a push up bra to get cleavage then the smooth because they are designed not to move.    Mine do ripple and feel firm.

don23, give it some time.  they are squished right now.  I don't know if you were on here when the term "hamburger buns" was going around.  They start out flat and will drop like balloons in time.  Some drop sooner than others but they will drop.

Laura, mmm. how do you KNOW you can cut hair drunk and stoned?  LOL  I am sorry you are having so much trouble with your eyes!  I hope it clears up soon.

    Wishing Deborah well.

For those of you that just switched from TEs to implants. The new girls will be so much softer and so much more comfortable, but they will also be flatter and less pronounced. It comes w/ the territory. I think they get better as they drop and "fluff" but I also think we just get used to the new look. I can say that the nips (even tiny ones like I have) create the impression that they are not as flat. But I so much prefer the softness over the TEs, so it is all fine by me.

Robin - Your grandkids look adorable. But you (like Laura) cannot possibly be old enough to have grandkids, can you?

Judy - Do you know anyone in upstate NY you recommend for tattoos?

Gentle hugs to those of you recovering from surgery.

Welcome home with your new girls, Athena-lioness and janloy!  Please do take it easy.....and give yourselves time to heal...... Athena - the drains are a pain - I had them, too, after exchange (a "given" with my ps) - it helped me to remember that they're there for a reason.......  Most importantly - hurray for softness!

Laura - praying that those eyes start seeing  - as well as looking - better!

I had an appt. with my onc today and the nurse used some really neat new device to check my blood pressure.  It's wrapped around the wrist (kinda looks like a little i-pod), then you hold your wrist up near the middle of your chest.  She said it's perfect for the bc patients who've had bilaterals, since there's no risk of LE.  Pretty cool.......

Athena - Glad your surgery went well.  Too bad about the drains -- everyone hates them!  So annoying!

Janloy - I am happy your surgey went well, too  and that you are happy with your new perky implants.

Don23 -- The unveiling is often disappointing.  Mine sure was!  The impalnts do fluff and drop, but I didn't change  in size.  They just fit into a bra better.

Deborah -- When do you get your dressings off?

Mykidsmom -- Thanks for the compliment, but yes -- I am old enough to be a granmother.  Right now I am feeling downright ancient!
