My onc PA said it is a total dose of herceptin that they are going for.  My impression is that is doesn't make a difference if you get it weekly or every 3 weeks.

OSSA..congratulations......I will finish the end of November I think I have like 7 left to go. i get my infussion every 3 weeks. My MO said if I had to stop now he would feel confident that I would be good to go because I got those beginning treatments along with my chemo. I have to go for another echo on the 20th to see how things are! Oh to feel good again instead of 90! lol

Hi everyone i had Herceptin in 2009 i had it for 9 months then they stopped it as it affected my heart and i didnt go back on it. I have recently been to see a plastic surgeon to see about a reconstruction  i have had 3 that havent worked (long story) but my new surgeon was ready to do a diffrent reconstruction which didnt include inplants ... i had a muga scan on heart and he said it would be to risky to do the op which i fully understand i was wondering if any of you have had side affects with heart and can it improve

Hi Sue - Welcome.  If you don't get an answer here check out the 'herceptin heart attack' thread, the ladies there are very knowledgable about heart issues and herceptin.

    Dear Sue 1108 and others,

They delayed my reconstruction surgery due to heart issues (EF going down and a few other things that may or may not be real issues) while I was on herceptin.  I was originally on TCH in 2011 and was supposed to get a year of herceptin therapy.  I got most of it (missed 2 infusions of herceptin, )  but  I had my herceptin started and stopped x 2 due to EF going down.  Now for the good news:  My herceptin was stopped at beginning of April.  They did a repeat MUGA and determined it was safe to have surgery.    I got the reconstructive surgery done after waiting a few weeks  and the port was removed at same time.  I  am happy to report the girls match and look good.  .  Had another MUGA last week and EF going back up, now at 67.  Originally it was 73 before I started Herceptin then went down to 50's  My last herceptin was  in April so it is taking awhile but at least things are improving.  My cardiologist took me off one of my meds and said he will check in with me in another month and then maybe I can get off the other one.  I was on a beta blocker and ace inhibitor all due to probable herceptin issues.  I am still fatigued but cardiologist says taking me off one of the cardiac drugs may make the difference.  But who knows, fatigue could also be related to arrimidex, and the fact I am moving out of my house of 18 years and getting a divorce after 38 years of marriage.  A lot going on.  Oh well, live and let live.  I am going to the beach now with my dog and son.  One day at a time.  Have a great weekend everyone.  Keeping positive has helped me and avoiding the what if  type of thinking.

Jitters, I have pain all the time but I had arthritis all over Before Dx. So its hard to tell which pain is Herceptin and which is just normal for me.

    jitters and moonflower,

7 more herceptin to go!  Will finish at the begining of January. I go every 3 weeks.  I have also begun to have some joint pain, my knees mostly.  I go to zumba, so  I am not sure if it is zumba or herceptin.  I am not giving up zumba, so I will just limp on thru.  Stairs are killing me!   But no heart issues to date!

    Be well

jittersmom - I don't now if this will help with herceptin aches because I only found out about it after I finished herceptin, but now I use salonpas patches for joint/muscle pain.  They contain aspirin and mint and were invented in Japan in the 1930's and approved by the FDA in 2008.  I get them at amazon.com.  I didn't have joint pain before treatment but now do, I think it's the loss of estrogen.  The salonpas help with my feet and my knees.  I stick them on before bed.  I also notice that I have to exercise everyday.  That helps a lot!

Does herceptin given alone cause constipation, too?

BCbarbie.....I would have a cople days of D immediately after herceptin, then it would switch to C. Made me crazy. I had fissures and had to go to a butt doctor to TE meds to clear that up. Kit was terrible. I actually hoped for the big D.

    All good now.

Thank you. ladies, for the input. I gather it's mostly D for herceptin. So i wont need to take my smooth move tea as im still actually on the D a week out of my last taxotere.

Lol! C vs D! Who would have thought?😃

I have D about the 3rd day after infusion. Try the constipation tea, I can't remember who makes it, but I got it at WalMart. It works great overnight. Good luck!

Mom, I feel for you. I was always on the d train myself. Hang in there. Probiotics do help.

I have D almost everyday. I am assuming it is the herceptin. I thought the iron I take twice a day would offset this but no luck. 6 more months.....I'm half way there!!

My worst D was when they had me on mega magnesium, 6 tablets a day! I take two a day now, and its much less often.

Soooo glad to hear again that D is the rule rather the exception! I was scared out of my wits last night i thought i would be taken to the ER! Fear stemming from insisting on eating some moldy cheese at lunch. How could i have been so careless? With my onc out of the country for the week!

Thankfully, it is/was just the regular train i hopped on😱.

Bc, actually, constipation is the usual SE. But a good percentage of US have the D. And, while I wouldn't go around looking for moldy cheese, I guess it wasn't so bad! LOL. Much love.

I am 4 weeks PFC. Started Herceptin with my taxotere and had it for 4 cycles. Didnt have a lot of issues people do with tax but did have SE from Nuelasta shot.

Herceptin only for the first time this past Wednesday. Yesterday I started noticing my legs, groin area and even my feet felt extremely sore. As if i had been really working out or walking hills. Which I most assuredly have not. ;). I did clean house on Friday but nothing that vigorous.

Today I had issues every time I had to get up or down. Sore as heck getting in and out of the car etc. No pain when I am just sitting or lying here but crazy soreness and aching when I move.

Just adding my two cents to the Herceptin only SE. And wondering who else might have had similar issues.

I have four more Herceptin infusions to go to finish out the year.

Someone please tell me I'm not going to be this tired the rest of my life.

Lie if you must -- this is so depressing.

I recovered within a few days until number 11 -- then I had weird eye stuff and slept even more than my usual ridiculous hours. I battled through 12, and surrendered at 13. I've felt punky since then -- slept 12 hours a couple of nights ago -- and am worried about the next four -- #14 next week.

I am having a terrible time making myself exercise even though I know that's the best thing for me.

And my left thigh bone hurts when I am walking vigorously which we all know is bone mets (I can say that here and you'll get it -- IRL folks roll their eyes at me.)

My husband observed that 14 is a good solid number, well respected by the other numbers. But it seems silly to quit now when I'm so close......and so incredibly tired.

It looks like I might have to quit, so if you can keep doing it, carry my spirit with you, maybe that works too! LOL
