I was watching TV last night. The last scene I saw was a rape scene. Waay too graphic. I went to bed, but a few hours later I had a 90 minute "awake" episode. Haven't had one for quite a while. Now I know what triggered it, and what happens when my FitBit records such things. Tippy wakes me up to get my pills, I don't know if he does anything to stop the PTSD stuff.

My bike motor arrived late yesterday afternoon. My mechanic will be coming over to put it on (basically replace the front wheel, then put on the throttle and battery). There are a few other things that need to be done. I topped off the battery charge first thing. Then we will go for a ride. My gardening helper will be over, too.

I finished a skirt job day before yesterday. I have plans for a skirt with two sheer pieces of fabric, with a layer of some plain fabric between. I'll get to it when I get to it. I also found and printed some interesting recipes for crockpot soups. Time to figure out a grocery list. Will be fun to pedal out to WalMart for groceries, but the local store might suffice. Although Aldi's is very close to WalMart, nice to shop there first. My mind is reeling with things to do.

Tippy got a shower yesterday. I had him all wet and discovered that the shampoo bottle was empty. Used some people shampoo. Found his new bottle afterwards. He smells real good. I think I'll check toxicity and use a safe essential oil the next time he needs a bath. His normal shampoo strongly resembles Head and Shoulders, I ought to check the ingredient lists on both. We got the bathroom floor real wet. Took two towels to get it reasonably dry.

Think I have about the same, Sandy, especially with L4. Ortho only took knee X-rays, but there is something going on with L4, according to Dexa scan. Where are you going for PT? I think it is helping me- though I am very sore that day and every day after my exercises. Made it well through the airports and off the planes. Limping around the Biltmore last night. Conundrum- hurts when I stretch, hurts when I don’t

Good morning. I woke up to the sound of construction, big equipment, and loud noise. It was another new home going up, so they are clearing the land. All the beautiful pine trees are gone. I do hope that they will be used for lumber and not dumped in a land fill someplace. It does make me said to see those old trees go. I think raping the land increases global warming. At one time, builders had to plant native trees to make up for the trees they took. I hope they still do that. I find it sad.

Hello Petite1, I live in BC. For the past 2 years, we have watched several acres of old wood be chopped down. The sound of these grand trees hitting the ground sickens me. Meanwhile, low and behold the homes downhill are flooded and two washed out. Firs 'drink' over 100gal per day...Can no one see the connection?

Returned from a walk just in time. Looks like it’s going to rain.

Sorry you’re dealing with sciatica. I use to get it when I worked. Figured it was from sitting at a desk all day. I hope PT helps.

Wish I was musically inclined chisandy. Do you teach children or adults? It’s good to keep your hands and fingers moving.

Mcbaker - enjoy the motor. It’ll be nice to have shopping options.

Sad they’re still bulldozing trees to build houses. Too bad they can’t leave some of the up. I hope they plan to replace them. Our HOA inadvertently took down one of our trees. We made them replace it by planting two trees - one in our yard and one in the common area.

    Have a good day

((((Keywest & Sandy ))))))))) MC, good for you on getting the bike motor. Sorry you had a rough ptsd night. Hope that evens out really well.

Trees -- way too many of them are gone and I think we should ( builders and cities ) and anyone else put as many trees back out as possible.

Nothing special today. I have lots to do tomorrow. I am going to try to do a cleaning job for my friend and take care of my other friends' dogs so they get to the groomers and home okay. Also, have to feed the dogs after they are returned home. It has not been too toasty here as of late so that is good, but it could change anytime. I am mindful that my adjustment is likely a bit easier since I'm far slimmer than I once was. I'm having though the usual reaction to the beginning of summertime with the itchy bumps from whatever critters get ahold of me while I'm outside. It is not bad -- more of a slight annoyance, but I can w/o thinking start itching -- which makes you want to scratch more once you start. Practicing mindfulness so I can keep my hands on the keyboard --- and not where they don't belong right now.

Hope you all have a marvelous day.

I hate seeing trees taken down. 25+ years ago outside Disney we were doing a tour of a timeshare for free Disney tickets. As we were shown around on a golf cart the woman pointed out with a flick of her hand “this used to be all orange groves!” Partner & I looked at each other, so you took down an orange grove to build timeshares.

After my dental cleaning I spent a good part of yesterday trimming shrubs. Some of those Burberry(?) thorn bushes reseed all over the place. After chopping with the hand held clippers, I took a break indoors, with shaking arms. I went back out to pick everything up using “the grabber” old lady tool. It was my parents tool, and it’s come in handy more than once. Two reasons to use it: I didn’t want to get thorns in my hands - they stick through my gloves, and my back - bending over to get them is too much for me. Bulging disks at L2, 3, 4, and 5.

After the hamstring surgery my back has been horrible. I’ve seen my chiropractor muscle therapist every two weeks, next appt is 6/15. I’ve also set up 8 more weeks of PT, first appt 6/16 with a new group my orthotic foot Dr recommended. Fingers crossed I get some relief. I sit with a heating pad daily. And I’ll take Advil as needed, trying not to rely on it. New orthotics are on order too.

My boiler in the basement is getting repaired today. Gentleman has been down there for over an hour working. I ended up putting my Blink camera, from the back porch, down there. Figured that’s the easiest way to “see” what’s happening down there while we’re in Florida. Now I need another Blink camera for the back porch. Amazon Prime day should be in early July, google suggested 7/11 but no guarantee. Anyway that’s when I’ll grab another camera hoping for a discount. They run $35, not breaking the bank if I bought it now. But I want a deal!

Overcast here and 72, good yard work day, although on & off windy. And rain expected around around 4. Enjoy your day ladies.

Our yard has 2 heritage poplar trees. We're getting 200.000 less than our neighbors because they can't cut them down. I'm sorry to lose the money, but they are beautiful trees with crows nests every year. One day the crows were just going nuts. A neighbor told us they'd seen an eagle in the tree and the crows were chasing it away.

Judy, I chose Evanston Athletic Club because it's the N.Shore PT location closest to me. Despite construction on Benson I was able to get a street parking space practically in front. The therapist found trigger points at both hip joints (when she had me lie on my side on the hard massage table during the evaluation). There's a shortage of PTs in the N.Shore system right now because so many docs are prescribing PT rather than drugs or invasive measures. So except for next week, I can go only once a week. My ortho wants me to do 4 weeks, and the order covers only 8 sessions. Gonna have to reinflate my "therapy ball" tonight, from my last sessions in 2017.

The therapist suggested aquatic exercises might help...but the LA Fitness gym in Evanston where I used to swim closed down (and it was so much cleaner and nicer than the dinky little one in my neighborhood that lacks a pool). The closest LA Fitness locations with pools are in Highland Park (way too far north) and Oak Lawn (way too far south--near Christ Hosp. and Bob's two offices; with traffic the trip can sometimes approach 2 hrs.). I might join Edgewater Athletic Club on Granville to be able to use the pool (I dread the rigmarole involved in quitting LA Fitness, for which I still pay $30/mo.). It's across the street from Metropolis Coffee, a little less than a 1/2 mi. walk--so I could reward myself afterward with an espresso or breve cappuccino (though I make pretty darn good ones at home, using their beans and my machine). The shared parking lot is an extremely tight squeeze to maneuver, though there is often street parking. I'd join Evanston Athletic Club itself, but it's pricier than Edgewater and I can't walk to it--in fact, the CTA station is as far from it as are the municipal garages. (The one thing I hate about swimming is having to re-do my hair afterward, which is requires quite a bit of maintenance to keep the frizzies at bay).

Cardplayer, I don't actively teach, but at these festivals my dulcimer workshop attendees are adults (mostly seniors, at that). I haven't taught guitar in years, and I'm not a very accomplished guitarist with conventional technique--but the organizer insisted I teach a guitar workshop. So I hit on the topic of adapting the dulcimer concept of movable chord shapes up & down the fretboard to create inversions/alternate voicings on guitar--a trick I've used in both songwriting and guitar arranging. In the past, I'd taught dulcimer workshops on how to find and adapt songs usually played on open-tuned guitars to dulcimer--so this is kind of the flip side. (Sorry for all the tech-talk).

Sandy, any hotels with pools nearby? Some of our local hotels know most guests are here for government meetings and aren’t in the pool. We’ve used them for Girl Scout events, and a gf paid a nominal fee to swim during the winter. Just a thought

No nearby hotels, certainly not with pools. There's a Y up in Evanston (the ones where I used to swim in West Rogers Park, and later took prenatal exercise classes--the "Leaning Tower" in Niles, with a half-size replica of the real one in Pisa--both closed down pre-pandemic). Closest hotel with a pool is a DoubleTree up in northern Skokie just south of the Old Orchard outdoor mall. There are two luxury seniors' apt. bldgs. in Evanston--the Merion & the Mather--but for residents & their guests only. There are downtown hotels (Loop, Streeterville, etc.), but I don't venture down there any more due to the teen flash mobs and all-too-common violence. (Bob's going to the symphony on Friday night while I'm down in Morris at the dulcimer festival, and I'm more than a little nervous about that).

Today is dh's birthday. He turns 83. I told him he can add a stroke to his golf score and still shoot his age. We have a reservation for dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in town.

Goodness knows how many forests have been flattened in our parish (county) and the one adjacent. Subdivisions keep popping up leading to traffic issues. The two-lane highways sufficed for years but no longer. Also the schools aren't adequate for all the additional children. Currently there's a moratorium on high density building in our parish with tempers running hot on both sides of the issue.

It's sad and ironic that people once moved to north shore of Lake Pontchartrain because of the wooded acres and slower lifestyle. Both have disappeared.

I time my errands to avoid the worse of the traffic. Everyone seems in a great hurry.

Happy Birthday to your DH Carol. I hope he has a wonderful celebration.

I had indoor water PT in 2016. It was done as a group with one PT, but was beneficial. Lots of walking in the water to start and then specific water exercises for each patient. It was at a rec center that was nearby the PT office. Eventually, I moved to their office for individual PT.

Taking one of the cats to the vet for her one year old checkup. The other goes tomorrow. Not sure how she'll react as she's a bit skittish. I've got plenty of bactine and bandaids just in case.

Had a 2 miles walk this morning. It's humid today, but at least no more rain. Heading to PT later this afternoon. Enjoy your day.

It is only in exceptional moods that we realize how wonderful are
the commonest experiences of life. It seems to me sometimes that
these experiences have an "inner" side, as well as the outer side
we normally perceive. At such moments one suddenly sees everything
with new eyes; one feels on the brink of some great revelation. It is as if
we caught a glimpse of some incredibly beautiful world
that lies silently about us all the time.

Let me wish happy birthday to your dh as well Carole. My other half will be 83 this yr.as well. In May. I've never been able to SEE myself as an older person ( though I'm getting there ) but I was not able to imagine my other half as older either. I hope that is because it really is just a number with so much expressed in those years of happy, sad, eager, able etc. Hoping you and Dh as well as all here and their mates stay in good heath and able to do for a good long time.

We don't have a lot of building here as yet, but more than I expected when we moved out here to the lake. I've really hated the fact that the last 'lane' down from us is so devoid of its wooded areas. I hope not too much more of the 'trees' go any time soon. I've thought of our lake surrounded most all the way around with good sized wooded areas as a refuge not only for the animals but for we people as well. Too much of it has changed. I'm happy to look out my windows this time of year and see mainly the green of the dressed up Sentinels around the house and our woods. We have ravine areas on both sides of us so I hope and pray that it is un-suitable for anyone hoping to build.

I hope you all had a good day. Mine was fairly busy. I'm relaxing now though.

This is tech hell week for me. First my printer died and it wouldn’t stay powered on long enough to install a firmware update. Since it was 5 yrs old and a refurbished one at that, I gave it a decent burial and bought a new and better one. Of course, it takes a different cartridge (same brand) and I had to order them online because local stores were out of stock on them.

Then Bob’s tire got a bulge in it, so he doesn’t feel safe driving until the new one comes in at Just Tires. Then I tried to Venmo my nail tech a tip, but Venmo “lost connection with” my bank and “Plaid” wants me to log into the bank to reset it—I’m afraid it’s a scam to get my bank account info.

So I tried to log into my bank on my computer at home…and my ISP is down till at least 3:30 am (so no cable TV or landline either, as the latter is VOIP). My iPhone suddenly refuses to be a hot spot, so I’m typing this with one finger on the phone itself—and BCO won’t bring up my Favorites in the mobile version.

At least I have satellite (and shows from it on my DVR); and I got the two pieces I’m teaching Saturday tabbed out. Of course, can’t copy them because the printer has only a “starter” cartridge—so I’ll have to go to FedEx if the cartridges I ordered don’t arrive in time to print the handouts from home

Cardplayer, I was cat sitting for a friend that is out of town. Her cat is usually a good boy, but yesterday he bit me. It is not the first time. I am glad my fur babies don't bite.

Since they have clear the property around the corner from me, I have not seen many birds or squirrels. Things are changing so fast it makes my head spin. I guess my little paradise has been discovered.Sad

Last year there were so many trees being cut down it was heart-rending. And many of them were not ash trees. Hopefully it will not become a fad again this year.

Tippy was a good boy at the groomer's yesterday. She now knows that when I can't see his eyes it is time for me to schedule him, so she cut his bangs a little bit longer. I guess it is just as well, although he whined and complained when his toenails were clipped. I had to leave to get him to quit pleading to me to get her to stop. Next time I will talk to him during the process to see if he will do better.

There was a big dog there whose person came in. We were asked to leave, to prevent him from running into us in the process of running to the car. Extremely bonded to his person.

Looks pretty outside this morning. I'm thinking warmth for later. Not a lot planned. I do have to re-clean my desk area after all my bill paying the other day. I need a place to drop the extra papers that come with all bills. So many sem to come with three or four pages. A lot of it is almost un-intelligible to me and yet there is information on it which I think is better suited to the paper shredder, so I end up with piles on my desk and newer items placed on top. Sigh !!! I am dis-organized and need some work on myself.

Hope you all have a really good day.

P.S. -- Forgot to say how much I enjoy hearing about Tippy's Travels.

Both cats have had their vet appointment for the year. The hardest part was getting them into the cat carrier. Glad we did them on separate days.

Our air fryer stopped working. Since it’s still under warranty, the company will be sending us a replacement. In the meantime, I’m having use my microwave to cook my nightly sweet potato. Just doesn’t taste as good. Won’t get the replacement for a week or two. We use the air fryer a lot, although now that it’s warm, we are grilling out more often.

Otherwise a quiet day. Enjoy your day.

Petite, If the bite shows any sign of infection, call your doctor and get on antibiotics. Cat's mouths are really full of nasty stuff.

    Sandy, Tech hell indeed.

We have a drop leaf desk by the front door that gets all the mail that isn't a bill. Last night DH fell and broke the drop leaf (also skinned his head). It was full of papers and made quite a scene on the floor. I don't know if it can be fixed or not. If not, I'll put a bookcase there to catch mail.

Cat bites can be more dangerous than dog bites: their teeth are sharper, the bite can go deeper, and their mouths have nastier pathogens than do dogs'. I always immediately flush the bite with soap and warm water, stanch the bleeding (if any), apply triple antibiotic ointment & a bandage, and hightail it to the Immediate Care clinic if it's during clinic hours; if after hours I call my health system's on-call doc who phones in an antibiotic to the nearest 24/7 pharmacy. I used to have to combine Keflex & doxycycline--but now that I know I'm not penicillin-allergic I can take Augmentin (although my gut is not very happy about that, so if I get too unbearable digestive upset I switch to amoxicillin).

It's time for both my kitties to get their mani-pedis, and I agree with Cardplayer that the most challenging thing is getting them into their carriers. In addition, Happy needs bloodwork to check his liver enzymes. We'd tried backing off the prednisolone to every other day, but he began to have more frequent vomiting episodes, so we reverted to daily (plus probiotic). He now understands: NO!, Happy, toy, play, eat, food, f-word (the phrase "f-word" for "food"), no-bite, & hungry (as in "Happy hungry?" which he answers with an excited meow and trots toward the kitchen). Dog-only-people think cats are aloof & independent--but mine have always been highly affectionate & loyal, with distinct personalities.

Thank you for your concern over the cat bite. I washed it and dressed it while I was at her house. When I get home I cleaned it and dressed it again. One puncture is deep. I have put Mupirocin Ointment on all punctures. He is a BIG house cat and I have a little arm with old lady skin, so puncture wounds are on both sides. It is a little swollen, but no signs of infection.
