I totally agree -- cat bites are very easy to get infected. It usually though happens quick enough for us to KNOW exactly what is going on, and that is a help. I've never been bitten -- but been scratched badly. Sigh !!! Usually trying to medicte someone who is totally against it. I've used all sorts of methods but my fear of actually hurting my pets likely has been in the end the culprit. Nothing stronger though at times than a cat saying no.

Trying to rain here. It will be a quiet day for the most part. Need to go to the store which around here can by itself be an almost daily experience. Thinking of trying a new recipe I found -- Oven-baked Cheeseburger sliders. Most of it sounds very non-lethal salt wise to me-leaving out the salt called for, and easy to make. Baking time isn't long so I won't mind heating the oven so much.

I hope you all have a really good day.

One of the shelter volunteers got a cat bite Friday afternoon and spent the weekend getting IV antibiotics. She said it swelled up and had read streaks. Scary.

My SIL sent me cat articles when I was pregnant with my son. Mostly old wives tales about the dangers of cats being around babies. But one of the articles was about cat scratch illness. At the time, my husband was dealing with swollen glans and an infected cat bite. He took the article into the doctor who prescribed antibiotics. BTW - I sent my SIL pictures of the cats sleeping in the crib with my now 39 year old son. 🤷♀️

Our local museum has a summer music program that starts tonight. Soul Expressions, the sounds of Motown. Looking forward to hearing some music. The also have a origami exhibit in the gardens which we might be able to check out.

Enjoy the rest of your day

Petite - hope the cat bite stays infection free

Card player - would love to see the picture of cat in the crib with your son. We took a picture of our oldest DD laying on our German Shepherd when she was an infant. Looking at the picture we could see his claws were digging into the carpet - it must have been thundering out - he was a gentle giant. We were within inches of our DD.

The heat is on - mid to high 90s for the next several days.

The saga of the house restoration is near to ending. The painters arrived this week to do the living room, the foyer and all the woodwork in these areas. I had already painted the living room woodwork in December of 2020 so that let them off the hook because I did not realize they were to paint it. They did not paint the patio lights to match the ones that had to be replaced so they will be back.

Now I am awaiting the floor restorers. Unfortunately having ram board covering over the upper hallway floor, the stairs to the first floor and to the basement for over 2 years means they all suffered from grit trapped underneath. So I notified the restorer when I finally decided I had had enough of the ram board and tore it off starting in the upper hallway and then the oak steps to the first floor. I did the basement ones yesterday and they are oak and really the worse for wear. He said he would tell the floor guy that they are to be included in the job when he finally shows up.

In the meanwhile the contractor I hired to realign the patio and to replace both the front steps and walkway has started work. He started the patio and rebuilding the one wall while we were waiting for permit approval for the front. I called the township on Monday to check the status of the permit and found that it was approved and available after we paid the exorbitant fee they charge. So today they started the last phase of the patio realignment and had another guy use a concrete saw to cut the steps loose from the porch and the sidewalk in to manageable pieces. I am sure they will be done before my floors are. They used pavers around the edges of the patio to keep the flagstone from migrating out again and it looks so nice. Hopefully they will start the steps and walkway next week. The one worker has done most of the job and I, for one, am grateful for migrant workers who come here seeking the American dream. This fellow is hardworking and has been doing landscaping since he was 16 and has worked for this same company for 21 years. His work ethic is admirable and he is meticulous in performing his job. Every flagstone was carefully laid and he uses a super long level to ensure the patio is level in all directions. It is painstaking work and I have seen him remove a heavy piece of flagstone (they are varying thicknesses and being laid on a bed of small stones) several times to get it just right. So no tripping hazards now.

Petite1: hope your cat bite presents no issues. Have a good weekend everyone.

My bike mechanic still hasn't been back. He has been very busy. And why should I complain when he is doing this for free? We are going to put a basket up front, and mount the battery in that. It really won't take long. The company hasn't gotten back to me on a better fix-- an extension for the wiring. Possibly wouldn't work well, because electricity loses power the further it has to travel, especially if it is direct current (I think).

Tomorrow is Tippy's birthday, and I want to take him on a long bikeride. I am confident enough that he will behave himself in the basket with nothing else to restrain him other than the weight of the reel for his retractable leash. We rode past a big dog, and his only reaction was some whining, so I know that works. Otherwise he goes crazy.

Cardplayer, one of my catsitting clients is having to find a new home for one of her cats as the cat has been aggressive towards their baby. They are so sad but it has been going on for a while. I feel so bad for them and for the cat. Would never have believed it.

Cowgirl, I had to rehome the cat we had when DD was born. She was old enough to walk and the cat would stalk her from a chair. I felt terrible about doing it but "the baby always wins" as we say at the shelter. I hope there's a local cat group on Facebook that she can ask for ideas. The group in Seattle often finds a new home that way.

I too hope a group can be found who can help with a good match for this cat. You usually don't think of the often aloof attitude of so many cats as one that would even get close to jealousy. Perhaps they too are often as in-secure as a lot of humans -- just didn't have to display it till now. I believe there is a perfect someone for everyone -- in the animal as well as human world, although I will admit it can be a bit of a struggle at times. Here's hoping.

Nice day today but nothing planned. Everyone liked the recipe I tried out last night. It seemed a fair amt. of work but that is usually true of most of my 'new' recipes that later turn out to be much more mininal than the first try. I too thought it yummy. I was surprised actually. I'm pretty sure I'll be making it again. Some of that having to do with keeping the salt content down but mainly because they tasted pretty good despite my having left the tsp. of salt out that the recipe called for. I used low salt kepchup as well and nothing else had all that much salt.

I hope you all have a good day and great week-end.

Wish I had the picture of the cats in the crib. I checked our scanned photos this morning, but had several pictures with our kids through the years with our cats, but not the one in the crib. We’ve had cats since we moved in together in 1978.

We enjoyed listening to music last night at the museum. It was a beautiful evening, in the 70s. They have three more music events this summer; I think we plan on going to two more.

A rainy day here today. Plan to do indoor exercise, maybe some light cleaning. Enjoy your day

Speaking of rain, our beautiful morning turned into a massive cloudburst this afternoon. It was only a 20 min or so event but it just absolutely poured the whole time -- then shortly afterwards it only had some minor trickles left. A few minutes after that the sun came back out and has been here ever since. Hmmm, I have enjoyed rainy days -- but that sort of rain does more to soil erosion which is a big problem on our un-even land. Didn't help that one yr. Dh tried to rake leaves with the snow pusher blade for the lawn tractor. Thank goodness that exercise didn't last too long. We could use tons of dirt in here with some retention walls at the back of the property. I think we will be leaving that problem for the kids who want the house willed to them.

Anyone who spends much time here does not want to go back to town. Our little town is not so bad -- it is just town though and doesn't have near the charm of the coutrified atmosphere we live in out there. One of the big reasons I was so thrilled that the kids came back after being gone 8 yrs. When they left Dh and I were doing fine on our own, but wow -- do we appreciate the help now.

Your music concerts sound very enjoyable Cardplayer. We don't have much here like that. I really like the older music artists -- you know, I was young when they were.

https://youtu.be/qPseJvXVVfo Speaking of oldies -- this is something I ran across called Piece Of My Heart. The original was done by Janis Joplin but this one is Faith Hill and in reality -- I actually like Faith's version a little better even. I did something wrong and it didn't light up, but hopefully you can get it into your browser and open anyway.

We drove 2+ hours into Vermont to tour the birthplace of President Coolidge. It was a beautiful sunny day, cooler at home than over there. Beautiful little village Plymouth Notch. They have Plymouth Cheese located right there. They use an 1890 recipe, we can’t wait to try. Of course we bought 5 pounds of various cheeses! We stopped at a brewery right on a river for dinner. It was about an hour from home. We left home about 11:30 AM and got back just after 9 PM. It was a long but good day!

I’m in an American Cancer Society study on activity called HEALED. My box just showed up yesterday. I wear an accelerometer around my waist and keep a little diary for a week and return it. Then if all goes well I’ll be put into a group for either movement or balance, and given a Fitbit to wear. My first diary entry was this morning - time I went to sleep and time I woke up.

I’m so glad your house renovations may come to an end! You have the Patience of a saint. Our boiler is all repaired and running for under $2,500. Insurance owes me a balance of $692 which they emailed that they’ve released on 6/10. I’m not sure if they cut a check or sent it into my checking as they did with the first payment. That whole thing took 3 weeks.

My eyes were so itchy last night I had to flush them before I went to bed or I was going to rub them raw. Allergies must have flared while in Vermont. And I take Claritin D every day.

It’s overcast here and last I saw the forecast we may get a heavy duty storm after 1 pm. Enjoy your Sunday ladies!

DH bought me a CD collection of Janis Joplin songs. Such a soulful voice and another artist gone too soon. Our little town has several small music venues that has live music, which is nice. They bring through lots of tribute bands as well as feature local artists. We mostly see classic rock tributes - Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Tom Petty, Eagles, etc. The prices are reasonable too. Pre-pandemic, we were seeing live bands and shows in Las Vegas. We saw Journey, Aerosmith, and Cher and had tickets to see The Who when the pandemic hit. Hope to go back when the pandemic calms down to see Santana. Saw an excellent Bee Gees tribute band in Las Vegas one time.

Another rainy day here, but warm. I'm going to a friends house for lunch. We have a small group of former co-workers who've been getting together for lunch monthly for the last 6+ years. It'll be nice to catch-up.

    Have a wonderful day.

Love Janis Joplin and just finished rereading a book about her. What a tortured soul with so little self-esteem and confidence. I miss her raspy voice and she is one of my all time favorites which also include the smoky voice of Nina Simone. We saw a recording of a Who concert at an IMAX theater and it was wonderful. Of course, this was right before the Covid shutdown. Just saw a reprisal of the group ABBA at the theater which was mostly empty so we felt safe.

Funny how the projects I have postponed due to either work (now retired) or the tree calamity/restoration are getting completed faster than the restoration. Starting with the floor refinishing in the family room and eat in area of the kitchen, it took less than 2 weeks from time of initial contact to completion. Now the hardscaping contractor has had his man finish the patio except for filling the cracks between the flagstones which will be done tomorrow. They said they will start the step and walkway replacement tomorrow and have already scored the concrete in pieces. They anticipate this will take about a week from start to finish. The patio took about 10 days and looks amazing. I like the new block supports they installed to keep it from misaligning again. I am waiting to hear from the contractor who will refinish my cherry kitchen cabinets and I bet all this is completed before the restoration company finishes since they now need to refinish the upper hallway, the basement steps, the foyer steps and replace and finish the living room floor. Then we will get our living room furniture back from storage and the drapes from the cleaners where they have been since November of 2019. I also have clothing and shoes that were sent to the cleaners as well. So I will either feel I have a new wardrobe or donations for Purple Heart. Not a fad dresser so I don't think much will be passed on unless it no longer fits due to weight loss since then.

Karen and Cindy thanks for your responses. This has been a very trying period and I wonder if this is why I also have plateaued for weight loss. Hoping less stress and more "me" time will restart the loss. Cindy, I enjoyed the details of your day trip. It sounds like fun and now I have a cheese craving.

It was overcast and raining when I woke but now the sun is out. I like rain at night because then I don't have to water the flower beds. Rain during the day, not so much. Enjoy your Sunday. I'll try to attach photos once the outside work is all done.

    Jackie - love today's quote.

Over 110 for several days now in Phoenix. I've played 9 holes of golf early but then we are mainly home. I wear an ice towel and really hydrate.

Just seeing news of new big fires in the northern part of the state. Everything is VERY dry so it doesn't take much.

It turned out to be pretty toasty today. We mainly stayed inside. It was ( weather report said ) supposed to be a mite cooler today with the real heat starting tomorrow. Heat index says 111 so it won't be nice. We ar going to Marion to see my Cardiologist. Have to go a mite early and do a blood draw beforehand which Dr. Ruben can get right before I see her.

Really thankful for a/c in the car. Usually we'd stop somewhere and get something to eat, but we will be a little late so I think we will come home and have leftover pork roast which I made today in anticipation of wanting something so I wouldn't have to cool much if at all tomorrow.

Hope I get a good report -- I feel fine. Then again, I almost always feel pretty good. I am catching up with the iron I was lacking and my stamina is much better.. Cooking supper gets me still but the rest of the day seems okay.

Wren, neat story about Janis Joplin. I watched a documentary ??? about her and it seemed to indicate that she had a lot of insecurities. My son adored her music so she was a bit generational. I sent him the Faith Hill version of the song and he said it was just okay. He went through a lot of 'music' stages but I was glad to see towards the end, his delight with the music that was part of my late teenager/young adult life.

Good morning. The cat bite is healing without problems.

Betrayal, I am so glad the home repairs are coming to an end. If I remember correctly, the house was damaged in 2019?

Illinoislady, We love the old classic rock. When we have date night, sometimes we go where there is a juke box and play "our" music.

Cindy, glad the boiler is fixed.

    MC, love the Tippy adventures.

Tippy adventures? Yesterday we were on a walk when we met the woman who takes us to Sparta for grooming. We were standing there talking when suddenly he took off barking at a big dog being walked past us. He nearly tipped me over, and nearly slipped his harness. I had to get down on the ground to get his harness back on. He is no longer afraid of bicycles. Today we were in the vicinity of a house where they keep big dogs. He again started barking and pulling on the leash, a retractable. I reeled him in, and tried to calm him down by command, and finally laid down on the ground hugging and talking to him, with me forming a wall that prevented him from seeing them. Once he calmed down, I gave him lots of treats. We saw another dog walking beside a guy on a bicycle, and he did not react significantly. I was afraid that the hugging was a positive reinforcement for barking. Apparently, it is a fear reaction, like bicycles. A hug then is the intuitive answer, for security.

I can get down ok but getting up requires that he has completely overcome that fear, and won't bowl me over as I get to standing (hands and feet on the ground, back arched as I bring leg with good knee up to my chest, and then up to standing).

Yes, betrayal. Congratulations on getting your home back together, although the list that remains still seems challenging.

MC, you are such a great dog mother to Tippy. I am glad you have/found one another. You make it safe for Tippy to actually be Tippy. What we all long for -- be be ourselves while the world tries hard to put us all in some kind of compartment. I hope you and Tippy have a great day today.

We are soon off to Marion and the V.A. I'll share the findings which I'm hoping are good.

Marion visit went well. Able to get in and out quickly. Due in part to my being early. I told then at the desk I had purposely come early, but the Dr. was free so they put me in with her. So, we keep on going. She has told me that I can take the Torsemide ( water pill ) every other day, but she is giving me Jardiance ( a diabetes drug ) which has been found to be helpful to strengthning people's hearts.

Hard to keep up now and then with what gets changed to every other day, what goes from a whole pill to a half, or half to whole. Glad that there is usually at least a month in between changes. I can usually get it down pat by then. My blood test numbers were pretty good -- likely why I get to do the half Torsemide every other day.

I am glad to hae the visit behind me though. A mixed up medicine day, but will get it all going again in the morning. Feeling for all of you in the heat. We did not gentle into ours and maybe you didn't either.

Jackie, it is so good that you are getting better. I was afraid for you. Sounds like you have a good doctor.

The retractable leash is now set at a short length. No more of this.

I turned on the air conditioner and dehumidifier yesterday, given the warnings.

Woke up with a headache. Coffee. I probably ought to start my nose spray. This no non-prescriprtion meds/supplements thing is getting easier. I am sleeping OK without the "recipe" I had developed for sleep, If I wake up during the night, I take my morning meds and smear on some Voltarin, and I can get back to sleep. I broke my rules with a late nap yesterday, so couldn't get to sleep until eleven, but woke up early. Will nap late morning.

I ordered the extension cables. My mechanic tells me that he will show up, then he doesn't. I think he has an alcohol problem. I can do the rest myself. I just need to get it done. Talked with my brother, he told me to go ahead and order the cables. I got more details on his health condition-- his emphysema means his lungs are failing. What will he do during California's fire season?
