Nancy: Not a pest at all. I got the Jojoba Shampoo and the Keratin Conditioner. One thing I noticed at first was that it didn't suds much so I thought it was going to be awful but my hair came out nice, clean, soft and shiny.

Did anyone else continue to shed for over 4 months PFC? I am still shedding really bad....I finished chemo 5/3. This is disappointing It just doesn't seem to end.......

MDG: I finished chemo April 15 just a couple of weeks ahead of you. And just in the last week I think my shedding is slowing down. I lost very little during chemo. Have shed a lot more post chemo than during. Now that the shedding is finally slowing I'm looking for the new growth. Concerns me that I do not have little curly hairs all over my hair. There are a few 1-2" hairs, but not many. Are you finding new growth? How much?

mdg: I shed that long: finished my chemo late June 2010, shed til late October 2010. 4 months. Then, it just suddenly stopped. I was sure it was going to all fall out after all that effort but it didn't. By the end it felt thin, but I still had my hair style etc. It started regrowing immediately, thick and fast. I'm a little more than one year PFC and my hair is now back to my old normal (grew 6-8 inches since last June).
It should be stopping any minute. Keep babying it until then, you are at the end!

Maria-looked back over my posts ...I finished chemo 1/13.... On April 21 (page 96) I am freaking out a bit because so much shedding, there are others too but then on May 10 (page 103 & 104) I'm still shedding...you can read my posts... That's almost 4 months....I think truly I didn't quit shedding until end of June... I went on vacation and realized I had just stopped, this was when iused warm water for the first time.....I was like Howard, I did not get curls, but hairdresser told me I had inch long hairs growing all over....
Promise (i know I've said that before ) you are almost there...please have faith ....you will stop soon! And then be so relieved, but your are going to make all this with hair!...0 -
To Arlene: Thanks again.
To All: I am 4 mos PFC and have stopped visible shedding, but had a haircut today and hair dresser said my hair grew alot in last month and she said I have thicker and more hair than before. Have patience. My onc. nurse in charge of cold caps testing said that the thicker haired girls lost the most hair and AC chemo also did worse than others. But she said everyone had saved their hair, some were just less or thinner than others. Have faith-its all better than no hair!!
I'd like to know how many are interested in the penquin charm or pin. State your preference and if you want it at all. PM me regasrding it.
Keep Positive !!
My party is rescheduled for this coming Sunday!!

I am trying to not think about it. I have gone back to hair extensions on the days I dont wash because it makes me feel so much better. I only put one in and my hair looks so much thicker. Shedding seems to be the same with or without them so I am going to wear them for sanity purposes (LOL). I got one of my helpers a pandora penguin charm. I got my other helpers a pandora ring that maches one of the ones I got for myself (I got one after every chemo).

I already have 1 inch growth by ear and nape area, I want to get hair extension also, but I am 10 weeks PFC, do you think I should used it or should I wait few more weeks?
My new hair (1inch) looks strong probably I can put the extension there. Any advice please...0 -
Nancy- I like the idea of a pin for Penguin helpers etc. That would be great. I am a fan! Thanks,
Elizabeth

I just use the clip in hair extensions made from human hair. I can't offer advice exactly but I can tell you I have used them during chemo at times and I just started using them again this past week. It has not changed my shedding at all...heck I shed no matter what I do. I just don't care anymore so I am wearing extensions. I feel so much better with them in. I only use one set and that is enough to thicken my hair up.

Ladies I am curious what is considered heavy shedding? Also, I am curious if people are taking pre natal vitamins after chemo or adding more protein and or suplements? There are other supplements beside silica that promote hair growth.
Maria, I have read your posts and you excersie a lot duirng chemo and at a high intensity. I am doing that too but I go outside and poor cold water over my head through out my work out. I don't allow my head to get warm. Also, immediately after my work out I rinse my hair with cold water in the shower. I think by doing this I remove the sweat from my head and follicles do not get clogged. I apply a diluted pure design conditioner to the ends and leave it in for 5 minutes everyday. I do this everyday. When I comb it in the shower ( just the ends) there are just a couple hairs on the comb. More hair is in the drain but not a lot. My hair is fine and curly and would never be able to go out with out conditioner. The one day i didn't do this my hair shed so much more on the following day. My hair is prone to breakage. I use a Kenra spray on conditioner (not on scalp) and then use Sea Chi leave in hair growth formula. I put in on the hair below the ears and air dry. I love this product and my hair is not dry.
I just finished third infusion today and know things can get worse or change at any time. The other piece that I have really researched are food that thicken, condition and grow hair. Because we are so limited with out hair products, I believe the food we consume is extremely important. If you google this topic the same foods appear. Salmon, Broc, spinach, eggs, dairy, carrots, walnuts, flax, wheat germ, chicken and grass fed beef and oysters. I am lucky that my stomach feels good and can eat what I want. These foods also help my complexion.
Lastly, Redken has come up with a hair system for thinning hair. I trust this brand but plan to look more into it when I am post PCC. I don't think the line is the protocal for penguin users.
I hope your shedding stops soon!

The shedding got bad post chemo. I exercised through all of chemo so I don't think that is it. The shedding gets worse for lots of gals post chemo. My shedding was more under control during chemo. I hope you don't shed like I am post chemo.

Hi everyone,
In celebration of one year post-all-treatment, and in honor of everyone who has had a cancer diagnosis, I am participating in this year's Swim Across America, raising funds for cancer research. Sept. 24 is the San Francisco swim, from the Golden Gate Bridge to Crissy Field in the city -- 1.5 miles. As many of you know, I swim every day -- and continued this even through chemo. Yes, the waters of SF Bay are darn cold, but I've endured far colder with PCCs! I figure if I can endure 8+ hours of -35C on my head, I can last 2 hours in 55-degree water (plus I'll be in a wetsuit). If you want to view my personal page, it's at http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/TR?px=1141508&fr_id=1184&pg=personal
I'm not soliciting funds from y'all, I just wanted you to know I'll be swimming in honor of you that day.
Cheers,
Susan

Soccergirl - This is what I consider heavy shedding...
This is how much I shed in 1 day after day 45. Please keep in mind that I used to have long and thick hair (and a lot). Also I just finished my 4th and last AC infusion (I understand people doing TC shed after finishing treatment). Yes, I still have hair, but it is barely covering my scalp. I will post some pictures later. Good luck!

Hi Everyone it's been awhile I am catching up on posts. I am 12 weeks PFC and the shedding has stopped at weeks 8-10 except every 2-3 days after Herceptin it starts again but very minimal. Happy that I did it. My hair is growing 5X faster than it did pre chemo having to shave my legs everyday! I am happy to resume my pre chemo life looking like I had not been through chemo at all. ironically my nay saying oncologist asked me if I was wearing a wig and I was more than happy to tell him NO!
Ralston I had shed just like yours I lost a total of 5 gallo. Size zip lock bags full of hair but I still have a full head PFC with the exception of the bald spots at the crown where the caps did not reach. Good luck to all of you.0 -
nmoss- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You did it!! I am so happy for you! I am 10 weeks PFC, my shedding had slow down so I am hoping to be like you.
What do you do? Please share, if you don't mind. Do you wash your hair twice a week? Are you taking silica and biotin?0 -
Susan: That sounds like an awesome feat! Thanks for honoring all of us and good luck.

I'm on day 13 after my 1st Chemo while using the cold caps, I haven't had any hair fall yet, when does it usually start? I'm doing FEC - D treatment.

Bella76: I had TCx4 and was told without Penguin Cold Caps it would fall out about day 18. Frank, inventor of PCC says if you make it to day 21 with hair, then the caps have worked and will work for you.

Hi ladies-just checking in I'll be thinking of you Susan on the 24th! thanks for sharing
I'm still hanging on to what little hair I have left, since I had such a huge loss in the beginning I wondering if what hair I loose now just seems minimal Thursday will be my last trip to the chair and I'm looking forward just getting back to normal. What would you all consider long enough before I can cut my hair? I'd like to cut off what I have termed "my comb over" so that with the new growth it will be more even. Never in my life did I think I would have a mullet!!! good god did they come back in style? hehehe

Bella I had TC and my hair started shedding on day 21 after first chemo which was the same day of my second chemo. Good luck!

HiAll:
I haven't had much of a response to the idea of penquin charms or pins or the idea of a fund for those who would like to do caps, but can't afford to, so I guess I will forget the whole idea.
Keep Positive!!

Hi Tiki I do take biotin and I used SLS Free shampoo With Keratin. My hair texture is much drier but that's probably due to chemo pause and lack of estrogen. Good luck and hang in there. The coolers, nausea, expense, headache was worth it!

Ralston thanks for the pics. I now have a better understanding of what is considered heavy shedding. I have a feeling I am going to shed more post PCC. Good luck with the rest of your treatment!

Will I be able to save my lashes if I start generic lattise after my third infusion? I am a little scared to use the product. It doesn"t come with an applicator.
0 -
Soccer girl: I finished chemo almost 6 weeks ago. I used latisse shortly after first infusion, then switched to revitalash. So far I havent lost all my lashes, they are a little sparse though. From what I've read, I could still lose them, hoping I don't.
I did lose 2/3 of my eyebrows shortly after 3rd infusion. They have just started to regrow this last week.
For an applicator, I used an eyeliner brush. I would place 2 drops of latisse in the cap and dip the eyeliner brush into it, then swipe on eyebrows and lashes.0 -
Well, as most of you that have done AC I had coverage all thru AC, but as you will see in the following photos AC definitely is a "hair killer"..."
