Spoomsister, Hope everything went well today0 -
Thanks guys. It wasn't as good as I had hoped. But I will get though this. Love and Peace to you all.0 -
You will get through! The beginning is the hardest, but you will come out the other side sooner than you realize! Until then and after we are here!
Hugs and prayers!0 -
Several of us have gotten through AC/T using the cold caps. Don't be discouraged. I lost about a lot of hair but didn't have to wear a wig.0 -
Spoomsister - so sorry to read your posts. Glad you found it when you did - it gives you more options. And you will get through this. I am doing my 4th and final tx tomorrow. It is a nasty business, chemo, but it is a necessary evil and something we all make it through eventually. You can learn alot from these boards that you won't get from your doctors - ways to lessen the side effects (SE's) and ways to get through it. Unfortunately it is all a journey we must endure alone, but it is nice to have others that can walk with us for awhile.
I am a cold cap believer so wanted to share that with you. It is expensive (Penguin is costing me about $1500 for 3 months) and manually intensive (I have a great team in my sister and husband) but I have been able to go through my treatments without looking like a cancer patient and all that entails. Plus once this is over, with all my hair, I will get back to normal that much quicker. Let us know if you decide to use them and I am sure everyone on this board will chime in with help and suggestions.
I also did a diep flap reconstruction, which essentially entailed scooping out all the breast tissue and replacing it with fatty tissue from my (unwanted) tummy. Bonus - flatter tummy and breast with my skin and my tissue - very realistic. It is a lot of recovery on the front end but I am glad I did it. Just another thought for you.
Hang in there. Lean on those who love you. And don't lose faith!0 -
2lovely - I love that interaction with your doctor!0 -
Today i am 3 months PFC and I finished rads!! Just not going to know what to do with myself! Not!
Hang in there ladies, it's right around the corner for you too0 -
Congrats, 4sewwhat! It will be nice to be there soon. Just checking in regarding my cold caps use. I've completed 4 rounds of TC and have 2 to go. So far, I'd estimate that I've lost close to half my hair but no one has noticed. I never realized how much hair I really had before all this. I still have a full head of hair and I suspect I'll make it all the way through without major problems. I'll probably just look like I've got thin hair when this is all said and done. Everyone is amazed by the PCC who knows I am using them, including me. I'll keep you guys updated when I finish up treatment.0 -
4sewwhat - congrats! So happy to hear you are done! Yay!!!
Rooting everyone on. Been a while since i've posted, but am reading the posts. Let's see...I am almost 2 months post rads. Hair filling in, but it feels like very slowly. I wear a fake ponytail...for those who have read my story....the back is way too thin to wear down. The sides camouglage it when pulled back and hooked up to a fake ponytail. So that is my hairdo for the forseeable future. I sooo miss my lovely curly hair, but i guess one day it will be back. Everyone around me is quite complimentary, but of course my young sweet (honest) children keep asking when my hair will be long again. That's hard.
Right now, i am finding my scalp is still dirty. I wash every 3 days, the flaking i talked about is gone. I tried apple cider vinegar again the last wash, but still dirty. I just exercised up a storm, and ...yuck! Anyone have any tips for removing the build up gently? I am 4 months PFC. Still some light shedding but not that bad.
hugs to everyone,

curly-I think it was Hortense who used Nioxin and loved the results-no more build up!0 -
Curly 123 - I used Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner #4 for chemically treated naturally thinning hair to get my hair and scalp clean again as my organic shampoo was not doing the job. It took two or three washings, but the difference was substantial. My scalp finally felt and looked clean and my hair was definitely cleaner, shinier and looked much fuller in volume. I highly recommend trying it. I found mine at TJ Max, but I am sure you could find it on Amazon.
I used both until they were gone then went back to organic shampoos which have worked fine since there is no longer any build up.
Good luck!0 -
hortense and makingway - thanks so much for the response. Yes, I remembered reading about nioxin....i read a lot of mixed reviews from others that have used it (non cold cappers) and it made me a bit nervous as some said it made their hair fall out! lol...can't win.
Perhaps i will just go for it. don't like that dirty feeling.
thanks!

Cold Caps Off! All done the TC regime. Starting to slide into the post tx SE's but just so happy to be done. Feel like I just thinned a bit, but full head of hair. I will continue to update for those watching this board. Hang in there ladies!0 -
mfm, congratulations. It's a major relief to make it through chemo and keeping your hair is such a bonus! Time to ship those caps back and reclaim your freezer.

Congrats, mfm. Oh man, that must feel good.0 -
One year ago I had just had my first chemo......seems so long ago and at the same time it seems like yesterday. I thinned out alot but went to work 3 days after last treatment and no one knew. 3-4 inches of regrowth all over and just waiting for the dry brittle frizz to be long enough to trim all off. Hang in there ladies.0 -
Awesome mfm!!! You did it! The rest of you current cappers will be there soon too!0 -
Schoolmom, I have that dry brittle frizz too. It's just on the outermost layer of my hair. The rest of my hair is it's normal texture. I've struggled to tame it but nothing seems to work. It's going to be a while until I can cut it off since my new growth is only about one inch long at 4 months PFC. My hairdresser suggested cutting my hair short but there's no way I'm chopping off my hair right now after putting so much effort into saving it.

jc254-Try Joico reconstructor. A couple of cold cap user's have used it and had good results.0 -
I love the joico product.
BTW, I noticed something interesting this week. I had very curly hair re-grow in underneath in the back (rest of my saved hair is poker straight)...suddenly this week it is almost completely straight - poof! Curls nearly gone...it happened so fast! I am almost 1.5 years PFC. Oh well, the curls were fun while I had them!0 -
Wow, that does sound like it happened fast! My hair was very wavy/curly and my saved hair is straight now. The new hair is coming in straight too. I hope soon I "poof!" and get some body back!
Happy Sunday Past, Present, and Future Cappers!0 -
Ladies I am intrigued about this cold cap. I will be starting chemo in January.
Now to begin with I already have issues with thinning hair especially the fact that I am 6 months post partum so I am losing my pregnancy hair and have always had thin hair. So would someone with hair like me be a candidate for a cold cap?
Just looking for some information. Never knew this existed and want to learn more!0 -
Hi Mommy,
Warm Welcome to you, but sorry you find yourself here, and 6 months after having a baby at that. I think any one is a candidate for cold caps. If you can tell us a little more about your diagnosis and chemo we could offer more specific tips.
These ladies are full of great information and inspiration! Best of Luck for you and let us know how we can help!0 -
mommy13-There are 2 cold caps available to the public. Here's the link describing their difference:0 -
Hey y'all Starting chemo on Friday and apparently I have been procrastinating... I thought it would be easy to find the infrared thermometer at a store, but apparently it is best to order online. Does anyone know where I could find one in a store that goes down to -40 or is there anyone in Atlanta that still has theirs that I could borrow? Thanks ladies0 -
Daye,
Call Carolyn and Allen at Marietta Dry Ice. They are located right off of Franklin Road at the South 120 Loop off of 75 just north or the perimeter. They do ice for the PCC users locally and also ship all around the country the coolers and Advance caps the day of treatment for people. They were awesome to work with. Tell them Lynne sent you and I said Hi!! If they don't have a thermometer they might be able to tell you where to get one. Good Luck!

You might also want to check with Marley2. She isn't too far north of you up 400 I think. Maybe she can direct you where she got hers or can help you out?
I didn't have to use one with the caps I had. I would help if I could0 -
I have mine...I would have to ship it to you though. Let me know

Ok, thanks to you both! I'm sure I will be able to figure something out0
