I've been doing that, although my hair is really thin and fine pre-chemo, so there is no real pulling.

    Stef,

I agree with Alibeths, something for the pain makes the caps more tolerable. my MO had me to take 2 norco before starting which helped big time. The first cap always made me nauseous so I would bring a few pieces for fresh ginger to suck on which would take it away. Something I learned during my first time with chemo 25 years ago. Also, a few saltines helped too.

Once I was past the first cap or two there were no more problems for the next 5 1/2 hours. Hope this can help a little.

Alibeths, I would do that with the clip but that is just my opinion. I still clip my hair up in a huge jaw clip to wash my face or to shower on some of my non-wash days. I am just mindful to not have any "pulling" sensation from the clip.

But after sending the pic to my friends they helped cheer me up by sending me photos of this guy.. I can see a resemblence, no? :D

Washed my hair yesterday and hopefully didnt do too much damage! At work now and it's pulled back with a large clip, hopefully not pulling too much either.

I have two more chemo sessions to go, but I think I see little sprouts of new hair growing in! I'm so excited! My leg hair is also starting to come back, which I could really do without, but it's making me so happy!

So it is 6 days past my second AC and 21 days since my first. Much more hair is coming out now. It makes me so nervous. Not enough though that I have any bald spots. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't get worse. It is so scary looking at a huge pile of hair after I comb it.

Congrats BB! I think you are done today! What a great feeling!!

wpmoon, I too have noticed spouted pieces of hair everywhere but it seems really wiry & curly. They basically stand straight up on the crown of my head & then are tightly spiraled. Not a good look but at least I think things are growing.

I have my 6th Taxol tomorrow. I thought Taxol would be easier on my hair than the AC but I am losing so much every day, I don't know if I'll have any hair left by the end. It's thinning pretty good now and you can see more areas of scalp when my hair is pulled back. I so miss my old self and hair. It's bad enough to have cancer but then when you don't even look like yourself, well it just sucks... I had a dream the other night that I blew dry my hair with hot air and a round brush - aw, the simple pleasures in life.

Hang in there melb. The shedding continues everyday. It's your new normal. You just have to go with it and try not to touch your hair more than necessary.

I miss my round brush too! My "air dry" hairstyle is not good - especially with one inch of white/gray roots!

Anyone use Color Wow during chemo?

Has anyone tried Root Vanish by Kazumi? Powdered color with no parabens or sulfates.

I finished Taxol and capping today, yay! Thank you, Angiel. SmileHow do you remember that stuff? And Suladog, you were my role model. Smile

I'm returning the caps in the next couple of days. I've been shedding some hair, but I don't think anybody would notice. To be fair, I tend to pick on my hair frequently. Silly nervous habit I cannot break. I'm sure more shedding is to be expected in the next few months. I have been collecting what falls out when I wash and comb. Overall I don't think it's much for 12 weeks.

When I feel a little more with it, I'll post some photos.

I had some doubts before I decided to do the cold capping, but now I'm very happy That I did it even though it was a lot of work and money. I'm also grateful that I was in position to be able to do it.

Good luck to all, may it all go as painless as possible.

Scarlett I stared using color wow and love it. Granted I'm less than one week since my first treatment but the Greys were insane and I couldn't take it anymore. Hopefully it doesn't hinder the capping!

Alibeths, that what I'm trying to figure out if it's okay to use powder color during treatment. Pretty sure PPC info says no, but I though I saw on This board that it was ok. If it's paraben and sulfate free, I'm not sure what the problem would be as long as it is washed out three days before treatment. That being said, I'm a little afraid to use it. I am on day 13 post first TC infusion and so worried I'm going to wake up with all my hair on my pillow! My friends who have been thru chemo without PCC say if I make it thru this weekend it's a good sign. However, my scalp feels a bit tingly (is that a word?) and sensitive. Wore a very loose baseball cap to my son's game yesterday. I figured protecting my scalp from sun was less risky because since my hair is already thin, my scalp burns easily.

On a non-cold cap note, I made the decision to take leave from work through the rest of chemo and probably until after my post DIEP flap balancing surgery which will likely occur in August. So told work I'd be back after Labor Day. Feeling guilty when I see all those on the boards that work, but I'm an attorney and can't see myself having the mental clarity to analyze 100 page contract when I can barely focus enough right now to read InStyle! Has anyone had success extending state disability for chemo? My post surgery disability period runs out May 31. I'm a contract employee so I don't have vacation or sick leave to take.

hey all, I haven't update for awhile but I been reading religiously. I am on weekly taxol with carbo now, after 4 shitty AC. I just had my second weekly taxol past Monday, taxol is a vacation compare to AC.

My hair been shedding about 50-70 strands a day (who's counting). The shedding have been pretty consistent, I really hope it slow down a bit as I am getting thin spots.

On a bright note, I went into work today for the first time. I think my co workers who know I am going through chemo all had that you still have hair look! I also can walk around office floor without anyone know what I am going through. Def worth all the hard work!! Finger crossing on the shedding

    Congrats Suladog! You look great!

Congrats BB on being done I can't believe how great that must feel.

Angiel - Sorry to hear you are still shedding. You are my inspiration though. Whenever I talk about cold caps to anyone. I tell people about all you ladies who made it through AC-T with your hair.

I miss my round brush and hair dryer so much too. I try to remember that if bad hair is better than no hair.

Scarlett - I get that tingly feeling too. It makes me nervous.

NY - Glad to hear that Taxol is easier. I have 2 AC done and 2 to go and then on to Taxol. It is going to be a long summer.

    Good luck everyone!

Melb44, I tried the apple cider vinegar rinse after shampoo yesterday. I got some relief from tingly and itchy. I was so scared to wash my hair as it was day 14 of my first TC, but hair hung in there.

What silica supplement is everyone taking and what is the mg/dose?

Had my first treament March 23rd, using PCC, and I still have all my hair! What an awesome alternative to growing back hair that is past my waist. IRONY: I donate to lock of love and was going to cut 14" of before my Dx. I can still donnate after because the dead hair we love won't have any signs of treatment.

I see a lot of people on here talk about the apple cider rinse to help with itchiness and flakes. I dont know if it was stress or what but my scalp has been HATING me lately. I can't tell if it's buildup from product, normal dandruff, or who knows what else. But it's in large areas of my scalp. I wasn't able to get it under control before chemo started so now I'm worried it's just going to get worse and worse since I can't really scrub my scalp. Anyone else in this predicament? :( I washed my hair last night and every ounce of my being wanted to scratch at my scalp when it was drying. Would apple cider vinegar help? What ratio do you guys use of vinegar and water? And hopefully you shampoo your hair after? I just don't want to cause too much damage. :(

I saturated cotton balls and placed them on the areas of build up. It worked grear but I smelled lked a pickle. I did this for several days and it took care of my build up. Thank goodness I didn'y have a function to speak at or anything on my schedule during those days. It was relief.

thanks malinavigator! Was it just straight apple cider vinegar? Or did you water it down at all?
